Hey Richard, I wasn't sure how I felt about your presentation but I actually really agree with your conclusion. As a white male what can I do to contribute to veganism? I can try to normalise it, from my position of privilege as someone who is seen as 'normal' by intersectionalists and society, ie. a white middle-class man in Australia. Most white men are against veganism, make jokes about eating meat (I'm sure we all get this every day, white males or not), and are morally opposed to it as they believe it conflicts with their ideas of masculinity. I do weights, have a normal family/job, and try to oppose vegan stereotypes - the most common if which in my society, as you point out, is that vegans are mostly women who are studying at a tertiary level. I can see how intersectionalists would be opposed to white men 'leading' the veganism movement, especially as white men do not constitute the majority of the vegan movement. If white men usurped feminism from women for example, it would become an example of just another thing that men have taken from women. But it would also 'normalise' feminism to the people who may be considered the problem - (white) males. But if people who are seen as 'normal' by intersectionalist standards are embracing veganism, what is the point in keeping them out of the movement? Yes, let's hope it doesn't just become 'another' thing that white males take over - but shouldn't it be about net results, decreased net deforestation and suffering, considering we're in a climate emergency? Is our goal to make everyone vegan, or 64% of people vegan? (US population minus white males). Are we trying to exclude 36% of the population so they can troll us with more memes about meat? And aren't these the people who have the money, power, including the '1%'? You're right to argue that intersectionality, not as it's defined but as it's being practiced by some, is limiting potential for our movement.
