Hi Phil - I was hoping for a better resolution at the end..but there’s still time. :-) In one of your earlier videos from over a year ago, over near the backlight ribbon there is a diode that was on some board revisions that when removed allowed the joycons to be detected and charge again. I had a switch with this issue and removed that diode and it fixed my issue. I didn’t bother putting it back, since as mentioned it’s not on other board revisions. Just curious if this might fix this one.
Fair play to you mate, your definitely an inspiration making use of what you’ve got and I really do rate your channel and respected what your doing humble beginning you got the start of something for sure
I've only had the zif connector and the rail causing a problem with the joycon rail. I've never replaced a component to get the joycon docking. what I would say is maybe take the power from the other joycon rail, using a jumper. and potentially you can get the both working. that cap which was shorted shows up in alot of places. it shorts if you have a problem with the audio IC. (but the switch will still power) just throw a error code when playing certain music. irrc it was the third pin on the bottom right of the alc chip great deal btw, and keep up the good work
Hey man, just started watching you! It's nice to see someone creating this type of content from the UK. How long have you been doing this for? And also, how did you learn all of this?
Thanks mate. As Watermelons said I taught myself from just watching TH-cam videos and practicing on my own stuff. I've only been doing it about 3 years
@@TheCod3r I've purchased a hot air station. Did electronic repair for years but it was military gear with discrete components so I never did any SMDs. I'm sure I'll melt a few things until I get the hang of it.

Hi, I live in Nintendo Switch home country. I feel that the flexible cable on the board side is not pierced shallowly, it seems to enter until the last bulge is attached. It seems to move when it moves even if it is shallow. Looking at the test data bolts, it looks fine.

You'd be suprised how many joycons you can fix (at least temporary) by cleaning them! Throw a bit of ipa in them and move em around a bunch and itll work most of the time
to me this isn't really worth it considering there like £1 to replace. when I sell switch these days I generally replace all sticks, just to save a random drift I didnt spot. not a bad fix just for your personal switch though.
Hey Phil, when you were taking off the capacitor at about 9mins you were talking about using the heat gun from under to prevent melting plastic. Could you have alternatively used the heat resistant tape over those clips?
I've seen other people do it this way. I suppose it's a matter of preference and what you have on hand although I'd imagine you have to be very thorough with the tape to make sure you don't leave any gaps that'll allow air in and melt the plastic.
@@KyleCalzavara I am too! If you've never heard of tronicsfix I'd suggest checking him out too. He's pretty thorough in his work and explains what he's doing as well. He uses the tape when he's using his hot air gun.

You are a true blackbelt Nintendo switch fixer! Didn't understand why the blue joycon wouldn't connect though. It did connect when you first checked for drift.
it's very fragile the LCD on the lite to swap backlight only. if it's just the cable then you can do a trace repair. if the backlight is water damaged it's quite tricky to do without breaking the lcd. possible but tricky.
Does the replaced controller work in your personal switch? Because I had the same problem when replacing my joystick. The ribbon cable I plugged back in on the joycon was slightly crooked. I pulled it out and straightened it and worked perfectly after.
Phil I remember you doing a video on a switch which helped me fix mine where the fan ribbon area is linked to the joycons. Possibly something at fault on that line?
I agree with you. I recall the same video causing these issues and it appears the diode is behind the fan fpc. See @ 22:16 in the video. Remove that and see if the joycon comes to life.
