    I absolutely love the reactions this song has. Every time I have seen a reaction the streamer looks happy after the first note.
    This is brilliant music. Listen to other songs by the Bee Gees and other artists from the 70s and early 80s.
    Barry the one in the middle, has been married to his wife for 50 years. So although they looked like they would be spreading their love around, they didn't. They were as loyal to their partners as they were capable to sing without gadgets and gizmos.

    3 brothers who write the music, write those lyrics which are poetry, do the arrangements, play the instruments, sing their own songs with their incredible harmonies, give great concerts and look good. They have been singing together since the late 1950s and recording since the late 60s. Those are their natural voices and harmonies. No auto tune. God-given pure talent. No formal training, self-taught with instruments and when they started they couldn't even read music. Barry hit High C in this song which is incredibly hard for an un-trained male voice. They have also written songs for a variety of big artists.

    Barry didn't know he could sing falsetto until the producer on the song Nights On Broadway wanted a high pitch scream at the end of the song. History was made.

    Barry Gibb has a 5 octive range of his voice and is an amazing artist and his falsetto voice is still the best voice in the world.. Robin and Maurice were right there with the talent also

  • @abhenson3790
    @abhenson3790 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Yeah Robin and Maurice, the twin bros on the left and right of Barry loved his falsetto so they pushed him to do it as much as possible and the results speak for themselves....They' d been singing together since they were in single digits...so unique harmonies have a tendency come from all that time singin together...they layered it many times in the studio to get the choir effect......R.I.P Robin and Maurice...also the baby brother Andy who was a popular singer in his own right and passed away in his 30s from heart failure...Barry is still with us....This song came out when I was 15...and I'm 56 now....and it still moves me to tears....they gave all the publishing profits from this song to UNICEF charity for children back in 79.....I could go on..lol.....What incredible talents and men!

    Simply the most successful and prolific family band in human history. Brothers in harmony.

  • @dortheyc5276
    @dortheyc5276 3 ปีที่แล้ว +48

    It's like they invented harmony. Live band, no auto tune, no computerized voice enhancement and one mic for all three of them. Back then (1979). singing was just pure, raw talent. By the date of this recording, the BeeGees had already been singing together professionally for 21 years when Barry was 12 years old and the twins were just 9. All of the Gibb brothers including little brother, Andy, could sing in that amazing falsetto voice. But Barry was the master. He was able to exorcise more control over it. The Gibbs were, in my opinion, the most multi-talented families in music history. They wrote their own songs as well as writing songs for many other musical greats.This song was included on a compilation album to benefit UNICEF. There were many artists who recorded songs on the album, but the BeeGees gave all the royalties from this song in any form. In, at that time, an unprecedented move, they also gave UNICEF the publishing rights to Too Much Heaven. To date, Too Much Heaven has raised over 11 million dollars for UNICEF. In 1967, they wrote a song called To Love Somebody which appeared on their third album titled BeeGees 1st, but their first internationally, as the first two albums were only released in Australia. BeeGees 1st was released in July '67. Otis Redding was set to record To Love Somebody on his next album. Sadly, Otis was killed in a plane crash, Dec 10,1967. I thought for the longest time that they didn't record it themselves until after the death of Otis Redding. Their brother Andy Gibb had a very successful solo career as well until his death on March 10,1988. Just 5 days after turning 30. Andy had developed myocarditis, inflammation of the heart, which was brought on by a viral infection While most people recover from myocarditis, Andy's body was unable to fight the infection due to his history of drug use. Soo sad!
    The 1st time I heard this song, I was 15 years old. I was sitting on the floor in our living room. They sang with so much emotion that I had tears running down my face. It didn't hurt that before this I found out that Barry and I shared the same birthday, me in 1963 and him in 1946. While I was crying, my daddy came in and told me to knock it off or he'd change the channel. He was mean.

    • @andreaharris7397
      @andreaharris7397 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Their Dad was mean too according to Barry. He said that their Dad would hit them. Mine was mean as well; he used to say "All dogs go to hell" in place of "All dogs go to heaven."

    I think the worst of the history of the BeeGees was that as the oldest, Barry was sure he'd be the first to die later in life...only to find that he was the last to survive. Can you imagine not just outliving your younger siblings, but having them ALL die much younger than they ever should have, and living for years afterward alone, after having been together so long...
    The interviews with Barry about his family are heartbreaking...

    Unless you're made of wood, this song will make anyone feel tears welling up because it's a prayer from the deepest part of our hearts. I quote a movie, Auntie Mame: "Life is a banquet, but most poor suckers are starving to death." Who in your life has ever asked you, "Are you getting enough love, Hap3speakz? Are you getting enough heavenly joy?" No. I didn't think so, sadly. The BeeGees gently put these questions to all of us. We are starving for love and heaven and we need to make more of it here on earth. We need our banquet.

    Phenomenal talented brothers. Lots of practice. Singing and writing sons since the twins were 9 and Barry in the middle was 12.. there also was Andy Gibb who died right after his 30th birthday and that took the piss out of them for a bit. The twins are gone now also which leaves Barry going it alone. He has a older sister. So after the American Country Western community opened their arms up to him and helped him back on his feet. Gave him confidence and affection. He now tours with his sons and sings with his nieces and nephews and is enjoying a new life. Just earned a number one record in his middle 70s.
    You’ve got some catching up to do. Side note. This song earned them millions and they donated it to UNICEF. They were awesome.

    The Brothers Gibb ...... Professionally known as 'The Bee Gees.' I was married a year before this song was released. The song would had been our wedding song, even if hubby said no.
    They wrote ALL of their songs! Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in England, then moved to Australia.
    (1) Maurice (on the right-short hair ) While on his way to surgery for his intestines, he had a heart attack, yet the doctors operated anyway. (I heard Barry say this on a video.) He was in the hospital for only 2 days! Maurice (pronounced Morris) passed in 2003. I feel he should had been the lead on at least one song on every album. Beautiful voice.
    (2) Robin (on the left-long hair) passed in 2012 from cancer. He and Barry complimented each other with their voices. To me, he was the comedian of the group. Robin and Maurice were fraternal twins.
    (3) Andy, (not pictured) the youngest brother had his own successful career. He passed in 1988, at the age of 30, from inflammation of the muscles around his heart. He and Barry could had passed as twins, even though he was 12 yrs younger than Barry. The 3 brothers were also married and had children.
    (4) Barry (in the middle) said, "I am the last man standing." Barry is the eldest of the brothers. On September 1, 2021, he and his wife, Linda will celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary, which is also Barry's 75th birthday. They have 5 adult children, and 7 grandchildren. The Bee Gees have sold over 220 million records worldwide (probably more by now.) They were also writers for other musical artists.
    On a side note, their sister, Lesley is the first born. She was 76, January, 2021. She lives a quiet life with her family. If you haven't yet, listen to: How Deep Is Your Love ----- Staying Alive --- You Win Again --- Emotion (a song written for Samantha Sang)

    Thanks Hap for your very real response/reaction! I'm 59 and love the Bee Gees, very much! It warms my heart to see the younger people appreciating the talent from that era. I like to watch many reaction video channels, but only have subscribed to a few and yours is one of them. I love your heart felt response, analysis and attention to detail. Did I miss it or is there any chance you would react to some Boston? Love you brother!

    This video is from a live UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child.
    What you hear here is just their voices, not electronic manipulation.

    First of all I have to say you’re a looker and your voice is very nice. But I need to say this song is a masterpiece in all areas. The instruments, the voices, the lyrics, the harmonizing. And they all look so good. Barry sexy as they come. Maurice he looks amazing. I’m in love with these guys all three of them including their little brother Andy. rest in peace.😞

    The Bee Gees are one of my favorites. See I do listen to more than just QUEEN. Glad you picked this song because to me its their most harmonizing song that they have. I just love these guys they remind me of my teenage years when they were on top of the world. Barry Gibb is the lead singer and I still have such a crush on him. Thank you for checking out the BEE GEES. Take care my friend. Your girl, QUEEN BEE.

      I had a complete crush on Barry also. Their early songs are so good. Didn't surprise me that they created exceptional music for the SNF movie soundtrack.

      Debbie Bush - I grew up with the Bee Gees and the first song I heard by them was in 1967 with Robin singing lead and it was HIS voice that made me a fan far before the falsetto and "disco" era. It was Robin's unique and distinctive voice and amazing range that critics called the best white soul voice of his generation. Even Barry said Robin's voice was "killer". I always preferred his voice, humor and eccentric personality and he actually sang lead on many of the 60's songs when they first gained fame so it is wrong to say Barry was the "lead singer". If you listen to any concerts from the 60's or early 70's, Robin sang the lead about 50% of the time and also sang lead on most of their early songs like "Massachusetts", "I started a joke", "My World", "Really and Sincerely", "I can't see nobody", "Close another door" and co lead on "1941 NY Mining disaster" and others. He also wrote some of their biggest 60's hits although credited to all three. Some of his 80's solo work like "Boys do fall in love", "Like a fool" and "Juliet" were big hits everywhere except the US where the Bee Gees were blackballed by DJ's due to the stupid and unfair SNF backlash. I like them all and, no disrespect to Barry, but poor Robin always gets the shaft because Barry was "pretty" and did the falsetto on the Saturday Night Fever songs which were more familiar to newer fans. All three did amazing falsetto, especially Maurice. I liked their 60's and early 70's stuff. Maurice got almost no credit and he was an amazing singer, arranger and the best musician of the three. The Bee Gees were THREE and together were amazing. Just gotta' stick up for my boy Rob.

    The Saturday Night Fever Days, I remember them well! ;-) Excellent soundtrack. I think my top two favorite Bee Gees songs are To Love Somebody and I Started A Joke, which date back to the 60s, pre disco era. But then again, Lonely Nights, Jive Talkin' and How Can You Mend a Broken hard are great also..... to many to choose from! Excellent song writers and they have the type of harmony only brothers can achieve. Saw them in concert at Dodger Stadium in 1979 and they were awesome live. Thanks, Hap! This was fun.
