Cracking job. Ive got my first roof clean next week. Do you need to take into account the gutters, as in will the hypo discolour them? Also any precautions taken if they have dogs as my first customer has 2 of them. Thanks for any advice you can give. Top notch work 👌
Thanks buddy, customer specifically asked for scraping. Some people are dead against pressure washing a roof, no matter how well you reason with them. Prefer to pressure wash, but don't mind doing a bit of scraping every now and then. 👍.
That's is a hell of a job! If you dotn kidn me asking is that hypo you used ? I'm considering using it for the same slates on my own house. How long did it take you to do this house roughly ?
Thanks Thomas, yes it's hypo, I wouldn't advise using hypo on natural or man made slate though. Natural slate can contain natural occurring metals, which can be discoloured by the hypo, man made slate (concrete fibre) can be turn a horrible whitish, creamy colour if any of the original coating has faded away. You'd be better off using a BAC 50 or DDAC based biocide
I’m looking at purchasing the slx-35 pole is the sky scraper compatible with this pole do you know? Gardiner have said it is but can’t guarantee it. Also do you get better results by bushing the soft wash on rather than just spraying? Great job btw looks spot on
Thanks a lot, yes the SkyScraper is compatible with the Gardiner slx (they're exactly what i'm using),you just have to make sure you have the right adapter, which Gardiner do sell. I personally wouldn't go for the SkyScraper, although they're well made, the profile of the metal blades don't fit the profiles of the different types tiles very well, there's always gaps. The scraper i've been told and read is the best is the Freemans Flexi Scraper - it's on my to buy list, I bought my skyscraper before these even existed. Here's a link to where to buy that freemans-flexi-scraper.company.site/?fbclid=IwAR1UHTt5PWUsjZ1XTQq9UQAHX-5TakoKTvfhPHav0bmxFyvW-2tnmO1fqo4 , apparently they're very helpful and can advise on exactly what connectors you'd need to attach their scraper to what ever pole you may have. Yes i've always found it to be more effective to brush rather than spray as brushing agitates the surface so it penetrates better, plus it's safer as you get almost no spray drift.
@@pressurecleaningsolutions7896 Yeah it does a good job with flat tiles like on this roof, but not great on tiles with a shaped profile like spanish tiles or double pantiles. Don't get me wrong, they're not a bad scraper, i've successfully scraped loads of roofs with it, i've just heard the flexiscraper is better 👍
Hi Angie, thanks very much 😊. Yeah it's always a bit of a shame when the neighbours don't want theirs cleaned too. Really glad you enjoyed watching, it's always nice to hear that 🙂.
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning fair play mate. If you happen to get anymore roof jobs this year I would love to see you show how you set up from the scaffolding to your pole etc. Little change from the norm I haven’t seen anyone do such a vid, could be a very popular one if others have the same desire to see such things. Love the work bud great channel!
Hi Pon 98, for me it's definitely harder on the shoulders to scrape. The downward pressure from the water when pressure washing helps when you balance it right, so makes it easier, but still hard work.
Thanks Dayne. Yep sodium hypochlorite is what we refer to as hypo here in the UK. At the time of this video, I was using a Gardiner back pack, this one gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/gardiner-pure-water-backpack-v3-22-litre.html But now I use a Rolltek pump, this one www.rutlandpumps.com/M1C015.html
@@JetnVacExteriors No worries, there's no need to apply bio after using hypo bud, as the hypo would have already killed all the organic matter left behind, you'd just be wasting biocide. But if you did decide to use them both, yes the hypo would need to be washed off, because you'd be mixing chemicals ,and could risk possibly breathing in all sorts of nasty fumes.
Thanks mate, as long as the lead is kept wet by spraying clean water on it, it won't change colour. I use a standard garden hose spray gun that I take up the tower with me. It's a bit of a pain having to keep it wet, but it's less hassle than having to rectify nasty brown discoloured lead, that you know the customer will pull you up on. 👍
Hi mate, I’m looking into starting up roof cleaning. Can I use hypo on any type of roof tile? If not what would you suggest using on the tiles that you can’t 👍🏼 thanks!!
You can use hypo on any concrete or clay roof tile, man made or natural slate can be done with caution, but it's best not to, instead use a biocide like AlgoClear Pro www.progreen.co.uk/hard-surface-cleaning-softwashing/hard-surface/algoclear-pro-hard-surface-cleaner/ on slates 👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning ahh ok so if you don’t mind explaining this to me so I have clear understanding I have a 22liter gardener backpack, what would the measurement be for that? Thanks again mate I appreciate that you got back to me
No worries, I normally go 5 litres hypo, few glugs of surfactant, fill up to the 20 litre mark with water in a Gardiner backpack. Always rinse/flush your backpack through with at least 10 litres of clean water after use or end of your working day or it won't last long, hypo will kill them eventually 👍
Out of interest. How long did that take you? I do the scraping too and I can barely use my cutlery the next day. Think I may be rushing to maximise profit.
@@Bdspro-clean Yeah tell me about it bud, it's hard graft alright, it gets to my shoulders the most, soon as your head hits the pillow that night you'll be out like a light 😴😴 I know I always am 😆. Glad to hear you've popped your cherry on the roof cleaning side. Onwards and upwards mate 😉👍
Hi bud hope you’re well, I’ve got my roof cleaning service started now- just wanted to ask. I’ve got one job coming up soon the customer wants hypo applied to the roof after scraping for instant results, do I need to revisit and apply biocide to make it cleaner for longer?
Hi Chris, cracking for getting that setup, no mate you'd just be wasting bio, biocide and hypo do exactly the same job, they both kill what's there dead. There's a common misconception that bio is residual (long lasting) and carries on killing any new growth for months after. It doesn't bud. Trust me, if you just hypo that at 4% strength, it'll stay looking great for years to come. 👍. I went past a job recently that I carried out 2 years ago, and the roof still looks brand new.
@@chrisbain9062 My pleasure mate, anytime. You may already know this, but just in case you don't, make sure that you keep any lead on the roof wet by spraying it with the hose, as the SH will turn the lead brown, and can be a real pain to rectify.
Ammonyx LO, you can get it from here: www.bonnymans.co.uk/product-page/lauryl-dimethylamine-oxide-ammonyx-lo , it's hypo safe, foams up lovely and lasts for ages as you don't need a lot.
