How about Zodiac, Mido, Eterna………the list goes on and on,…..most people only buy watches and brands that whatever the TH-cam watch reviewers are pushing lately…….or the latest Hollywood celebrity, rappers, NBA stars and who and who are wearing…..all AP, Rolex, JLC….their price rocketed and became TOO popular because of that….not because ppl actually have taste or know how to appreciate watches….the bling bling look at me look at me, iced out everything culture is so toxic and sick among watch culture this days.

"OVER" is radio-speak for "I need you to answer me"
"OUT" means "After this transmission I will no longer be listening.
"OVER and OUT" literally means "I need you to answer me and I will not be listening"
Aside from that your review was enjoyable.

Watch Guy, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational video. I'm very new to high- and higher-end watches, having only owned one well-known watch for over 40years that I couldn't possibly afford to replace these days.
It's an absolute pleasure to gain knowledge for one who actually knows what their talking about in an objective (as much as possible!) point of view, without rancor. Thank you.

      @ChuckBeefOG 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

jackal58590 If you think your fake Rolex looks or feels real, or is just as amazing. You have never held an expensive timepiece. There are extremely sophisticated machines developed in a time without battery power. Its about mechanics, and how machines work. Its about precision hand made pieces assembled by expert craftsmen. They are pieces of top of line metals minerals and jewels. Your fake plastic Rolex made by a 6 year old in China would feel bad, look bad, work poorly, carry no value of self worth or sophistication to the owner and be an obvious fake to anyone with similar interests. Its not about the Rolex brand, Swiss pieces generally are of good quality. Dont support the fakers, if you cant afford a real one buy a Victorinox or something at least.

The Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers (Australia's answer to the British Navy's Special Boat Service and the US Navy SEALs) wore Certina DS dive watches during the Vietnam War. Five-times 500cc/Moto GP World Champion wore Certina watches during his career. So, Certina is a brand with history.
Oris have developed a reputation for producing dive watches of great quality. The Pro Pilot range also offer the same level of quality and value. They are a good alternative for those who are looking for a stylish Swiss made pilot's watch that possesses charm, but can't afford a Breitling or an IWC. Fortis is also another brand worth checking out.
Sinn make watches of exceptional quality for a price lower than some very notable Swiss rivals. German astronaut Reinhard Furrer wore a Sinn 140S PVD chronograph as member of the Spacelab D1 mission. It was the first automatic watch worn by an astronaut on a space mission. Two other astronauts have worn Sinn watches in space on the MIR Space Station (1992) and on the Spacelab D2 mission (1993).

Thanks. You have now shown me my next 'dream' watch. My normal watch style is what are normally considered to be dress watches. Simple, elegant, usually thin and discrete and maybe with some additional features if they can be fitted into the form factor. But more often than not, white face, rose gold colour bezel and so forth. I generally do not like big chunky watches.
But there are a very few exceptions. And as soon as I clapped eyes on the _Oris_ _Big_ _Crown_ _ProPilot_ _Calibre_ _111_ _Power_ _Reserve_ I was instantly taken with it. It's even half way affordable, though I'd have to do a bit of saving for it.

I love the absurd hoopla. As a watch maker I can tell you that there is little difference at all with high grade Swiss watches as most all of the them go to the same supplier for their movements with the exception of course for Rolex, Patek, etc. ETA used to be the main source for watch movements until in 2013 they kicked all of the third party buyers of their movements to the curb, including a number of high end watch companies like Breitling, Tag Heuer, Ebel, Cartier, even Rolex which got ETA movements for their Tudor watches from them. In 2020, because the Swatch Group was loosing market share, the went crying back to the Swiss court desiring once again to sell to third part companies...in the mean while companies, especially Sellita, which basically makes ETA clones, took up the slack. My take on the battle is, "go pound sand", Swatch Group, you did it to yourself. Used to, not so much anymore, one could pay 300 per cent to 400 per cent for an Omega as opposed to a Hamilton and guess what...the would often have the same basic 2800 series movements like the 2824, etc. Other than style and name recognition, one is paying a lot more for the Omega and possibly a high dollar stainless tell band for the watch. Myself, as a retailer of watches, I have discovered that about 90% of people, if not more select a time piece based upon style and look. Some buy chronographs and they don't even know what the buttons on the side do. BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR SELECTION, YOU WILL DO YOURSELF A FAVOR BY LOOKING INTO BULOVA AUTOMATIC WATCHES. THEY BEAT THE PRICE OF THESE AND THEY ARE HIGH QUALITY WITH EITHER HIGH GRADE SELLITA MOVEMENTS OR THE NEWER HIGH GRADE HIGH QUATLIY MIYOTA MOVEMENTS.

Nice video, and a good selection of great watches. I actually looked at the Blancpain just a few days ago, and while it is beautiful, for me, in terms of looks, it's doesn't come across as a dive watch. Maybe it's just me. I live close to an area in Istanbul where literally side by side walking down the street we have the stores of Omega, Rolex, Blancpain, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Chopard, and others. It's a watch enthusiasts paradise. I do really like the Omega you showed and I agree Certina is underrated.

Cannot say I have an issue with standard eta movements. I have a Hamilton with the old eta 2824-2 (though it's an elabore), 42mm diameter crystal, with a very classy look (which was partly why I went with Hamilton and it's rich history; would love to find one of their old pocket watches in decent shape). Simply love it, and I know it and the other calibres will be handed down, or worse case scenario .. sold. For classy beater wear though, the automatic Seiko's are nice .. minus the lack of hacking (4R15 plain jane calibre).

I own an early Oris Pro Pilot petite second day pointer. I had it COSC checked and it came out at +3 secs per day. It's crown is huge, but at 100m water resistance and with it's tough construction, it's a great hacking watch.

Love the channel, a wealth of useful information and opinion. One slight issue, as this is one of the most common misconceptions in the watch world. The Omega "Manhattan" Constellation was not designed by Gerald Genta, as so many others have also offered attribution to, but rather by a Geneva School of Decorative Arts graduate, Carol Didisheim. Easy mistake to make, as it is somewhat of an urban myth, and the bracelet certainly looks all Genta. Keep up the good work, and I will continue to enjoy your commentary.

I agree with you that the Certina and Oris big crown pro-pilot watches are way under rated. I'd love to get an Oris with the 10 power reserve, and may yet do so. I think that the Blancpain and Omega suffer from being poorly (= over priced) at retail. Why watch brands do this dis-service to their products is beyond me. The Constellation design and size has its issues, too granted the oversize trend of today's models. I enjoyed this video and thank you for making it.

A personal and very honest review just because some of the prices are out of the range for some people it doesn't mean they aren't good buys. I can't believe omega is mentioned here, I'm a big omega fan and owner but they are chasing Rolex big time and their prices have risen accordingly. It's like saying the white dialed Rolex explorer 2 is a bargain because it's second hand value is less than other models.

Good morning Armand and many thanks for yet another thought provoking post. One which, as is usually the case, I found, even at this early hour, interesting indeed
I agree with your thoughts around the brand Certina, after a brief resurgence about three years ago they do now appear to have gone off the radar somewhat, in favour of the usual suspects Squale, Steinhart, the omnipresent Seiko, Rolex and of course Omega.
The power of the tube eh! Lol. As for the matter of Blancpain that you've brought to the fore towards the end of your fine video. Well what can I say? It leaves me with mixed feelings indeed and not a little angered actually. Towit. Imagine, pre reduction in price, that you'd had the misfortune to actually pay £11,000 of your own money to your AD walked out of the shop proudly sporting your brand new Blancpain Bathscape, perhaps patting yourself on the back for your insightfulness and remarkable good taste. How are you feeling now in the knowledge that you donated, a year or two ago five to six thousand pounds to your watch dealers holiday fund, new car, bar or brothel bill lol.. Not best pleased I'll wager lol. The upshot of all this being how we as watch enthusiasts are in effect being regularly robbed blind by the very people we respect, admire and, to an extent put our trust in. A bitter pill indeed. I'm just very glad indeed that I was not one of the Blancpain benefactors. Lol.
Anyway moan over. Thank you very much again for the video I hope you have a good day bye for now.

Buying watch from so many brands with heavy advertising is like walking into a casino with so many gambling machines waiting to reach your pocket!
You choose the game at your own will. So no complaints! No regrets!
      Ha! Ha! Ha!

The Sinn appeared to have a count “up” bezel rather than a count “down” bezel. Am I wrong about that? Very enjoyable and informative video.

Hi Armand - as a professional pilot I can only fortify your opinion on the Sinn ST103, besides your information it just has all the functions a real pilot needs - not more - not less, and it fulfilles these functions to perfection. I think it's also worth to mention that you can upgrade the basic model with a saphire glass bottom and an original metal wristband for an affordable price later on, furthermore the watch holds it's value rising slightly in price in 3 to 5 year periods.
So if anybody is interested in representing a real professional aviators watch go for the Sinn.

I think the Sinn Finanzplatz is a steal. Also, Seiko is making high-end watches within their own line. One even has the spring drive. The high prices they are charging are still a good value given the level of finishing.

Consider my eyes opened. Have been interested in Sinn for a couple of years; ORIS has always been a favorite; have never ever heard of CERTINA so there you go: job done. Fifty Fathoms is a gorgeous watch; I think it suffers from not looking as "tough" as a Submariner, but hey, if that Blancpain was good enough for Jacques Costeau, fine with me. Did not know about the OMEGA Constellation design pedigree. Fine looking watches!

Very nice reviews as usual, an interesting and original take. A friend of mine has an Oris Pro Pilot by the way... and I asked him how the accuracy is and he said perfect... I asked him more detail, and he said, he set the time to an atomic clock, then observed it one month later, and it had not lost or gained a single second.. it was bang on time. For 1300 CHF thats a good deal.

Great video. You made me think about getting a Sinn. Yes there is something about the Omega Constellation. I think is great value but I can't get myself to purchase it, as a matter of fact I don't own any Omega... How ever I have another brand by the same house: an inexpensive Tissot Multimillionaire that I love.

Totally underrated and yet cheap and brilliant is the Luminox SL201 Sentry. Looks great, fabulous night time visibility, light and comfy and yet only €175. Can't beat it. had all the sexy mechanical watches in my time including plenty of Breitlings but they are heavy, worry some and don't keep good time.

I don’t mean to only post critiquey feedback because I do watch a lot of your videos... but fun fact: ISO is actually a 3 letter word pronounced eye-soh which is derived from the Greek work Isos meaning equal. The organization is called the International Organization for Standardization or IOS.

IMO the most overlooked watches are Citizen mechanical watches. While their Eco Drive models are excellent, the solar quartz models have vastly overshadowed the company's automatic time pieces.
