  • This was a piece taken from a previous LIVE Clip on Dec 17, 2022. "Bighead" covers two prominent members within in the Tung On gang. "Grasshopper" a member who was well known on Rikers Island for being an incredible fighter and "Dice", the first Dai Lo for the Tung On Gang.

    This was dope. Never expected to have the privilege of hearing Big Head speak on Grasshopper in C74. I’m writing this post while walking down Mott Street. Just picked up a bottle of Tiger Bone. On my way to the dumpling spot.

    You should do these conversations in Cantonese n subtitle them, the flow would be greater. When someone speaks in their native tongue, they usually have a greater vocabulary within that language, therefore able to give more precise information in a faster way.

    What a fantastic story. I would love to know where Grasshopper learnt his Hung Kuen and Iron palm. what lineage etc. That stuff takes years to learn so he must of been on it a long time.

    Tung On (aka Ching Yin) was the last MAJOR gang after the Shadow and Dragon around 75's. Tiger and his boy Jeff/company was running around Division street at that time. Dice (aka Sic Jie Hung) was part of On Leung back in the early 70's with Nicky and his group. Then Dice started Tung On in the mid 70's. If I recall correctly, I think Dice and Taiwan have a nightclub called Sam Bo in midtown. Dragon has a nightclub in Queen called Four Ocean. That is what I recall when I was around.

      Correct, back then if someone picking on me . I was told by my uncle ( Dice Hung ) is my big brother. If there issues miss inform tell them come see my uncle. Mott street (Tong).

      My father told me this story. Back in the late 70's The GS need help with a street war. NY On Leong contacted Boston On Leong to send the Boston GS. Yes. Boston CT had GS. After GS won. The Boston GS came back to Boston and found a new gang took over Boston Chinatown. It was the Ping On.

    All these stories brings back many high school memories. Was not in any group or gang but personally feared all of them gangs back in the day. We all had the hair-dos & clothing that can be mistaken of identities. Had the fear to walk certain Chinatown streets as we all knew who ran them. But , glad to see & hear these guys became nice guys afterwards. 👍

      Yeah every gang had their own signature fashion style! FD wore strictly jeans and sneakers! Ghost Shadows wore all black, dyed their tails gold, and wore black shoes (not sure what they were called back then but similar to the modern driving shoes they have today). Or they would wear those cheap ass "skippies" that either came in black or white!

    Apologies if this is seen as disrespectful, but given that both Kenny and Jimmy have spoken about C74 I'd like to ask: Notorious B.I.G. spoke about being in C74 about this time. Is there any truth to this? Have any of your frequent collaborators met any other NY figures (e.g. Cormega) in the incarceration system there? It could be a good topic. Thanks Michael!

    A lot of people study martial arts. But the martial arts school is not a racketeer influenced corrupt organization. Martial arts schools teach mutual respect, righteousness, and filial piety.

      It’s also a safe haven avoiding handing on the street. Most of institutions instructor master had some ties to the organizations (Tong). If you mention right master within the group they might leave you along. Worst situation you go back call your master he will go to gang leader tell them leave you along. Because you not part of any gangs group.

      @@davdmoi Agree with you. There a few guys from the street that go up to the club to learn so they can at least fight in the street...but overall, I agree with you. The biggest school at that time was WCM Hung Kuen, Fu Jow Pai, 7 Star praying Mantis, CLF, Eagle claw and then white crane. Those are the major club I am familiar with....

I was on the island in 1989 when grasshoppers and Lee banged up the roit squad in C-74. it wasn't just grasshopper it was 2 of them and we use to call the other one Lee... facts! maybe you and I can work together.     Question - how old were a lot of these dudes when they moved to the US? reason I’m asking is a lot of the guys still have a strong accent even though they did a lot of time in American prisons. This is not a disrespect just asking out of curiosity

      I used to live with Chinese Indonesians who came to L.A. in 1997, and I suspect it depends on the age. The 6 and 9 year old had no accent as they got older. The 15 year old, (he’s 40+ today, I think) still has an accent.

      Real Chinese martial arts that works is rarely taught to outsiders, that's why one of the few instances of you hearing it work is with a triad guy.

      He started out as an associate with the Tung On Gang, then he got initiated into the gang as a street soldier protecting the gambling parlors and eventually became a Dai Ma then a Dai Lo.
