The “new” singer is actually the original singer who took over again after dealing with depression. Definitely check out their comeback single with him on vocals “In Due Time”. They really show more of their post hardcore side with him which I prefer!

Another fantastic review with a fantastic analysis. You guys are still killing it.
Suggestions of songs to look at:
    Protest the Hero - Bloodmeat
Nuclear Rabbit - My Girl's got guts or Truth's Ugly Head
    MSI - Seven-Eleven
    Mudvayne - World so Cold
Harsh vocals, for myself, became appealing when in high school listening to Slipknot. I've since moved on from them and Opeth has now become the most aggressive band I still listen to.
Keep it up, fellas, you guys rock.

You guys are soooooo young. Harsh vocals and growls are so ancient thing for us old chaps that I cannot even remember exactly. But in the 80's Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath were probably the first wave for me. Then the later wave was with Faith No More, Cynic and other progressive bands that used Growls more like a flavorful instrument. But full Growls I got in to with Opeth finally. After that I could easily listen to Growls only albums with great joy. And Barbecue pork Ribs and kind of Grilled Garlic potatoes with Remoulade sauce, Chili Mayonnaise or similar.
And talking about growls, try this Finnish greatness out, you could like it.

My first experience with harsh vocals was with Linkin Park as well, but they were kind of an outlier in my early taste in music. I really got into them during the era of Much Music when Rise Against, Alexisonfire and The Used got played a lot. Alexisonfire was by far my favorite band from that time, and I also moved further into post hardcore from there. I'm glad you mentioned Dance Gavin Dance, because I think that band is absolutely phenomenal. I'd love to see you do a few songs of theirs on the channel in the future. I think Son of Robot and Evaporate off of their new album are particularly strong showings.
I really enjoyed the longer format and I think you guys did a great job moving from the discussion of the song to a discussion about the genre the song belonged to and such.
I always enjoy seeing more metal music on the channel. When you feel it's time to do a metal song again, I would recommend Silence Speaks by While She Sleeps. I think it's very lyrically and instrumentally striking.
My favourite comfort food is good sushi. Something spicy, maybe with shrimp and/or salmon.

I really like Killswitch Engage. I saw them perform years ago when they were on tour with Disturbed. This is my kind of music. I've always considered the short heavy riff followed by muted guitar strings as a hallmark of KE. Score 4.2 with a large bowl of grits with butter and salt. Gotta have the salt. I think that's why a lot of people have a bad experience with grits; they try to eat grits unsalted. I cannot stress enough the importance of salt to having good tasting grits.

Y'all should should try Szechuan as comfort food. It's in a league of it's own for interesting and spicy asian cuisine (I noticed your noodle shirts).
For post hardcore, ever listen to Pierce the Veil? I'd recommend Bulls in the Bronx.
For progressive metal, please treat yourself to Caligula's Horse - Graves (about 14 minutes long), Songs for No One, or Dream the Dead.

Don't really remember the first time I heard or got into harsh vocals. Probably Linkin Park like everyone else. I just remember not liking screaming at first and gradually growing into it, especially if it's done well and makes sense thematically.

First time I head “harsh” vocals was probably Nirvana. Shortly after that I entered middle school and then really started buying music-first CD I ever got was Silverchair’s “Frogstomp” album, I think they also had screamier vocals at times. Then I started to get into Metal & Punk bands, also Acid Bath, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails. I’d say that the one that leaps out as being a departure from most people is when I got into Atari Teenage Riot.
Speaking of “edm,” (wow, I still cringe when I say that,) have you thought of any particular genres or artists you’ll checkout? My favorite electronic act is by far Orbital. Anyway, when “edm” came up in the discussion I thought about how it took me a good 5 to 6 years to get into Drum n Bass.
What are some album covers you really like, whether you’ve heard the album or not?

    • @jpmp1201

I've listened to...Orbitals' Blue Album a long time ago, but I honestly don't remember it. I don't have any EDM artists in mind (yet) tbh.
Some of my favorite album covers (regardless of music) are:
Dead Can Dance- In the Realm of a Dying Sun
      Eisley- Currents
      Kanye West- Graduation
      The Contortionist- Language
Chiodos- Alls Well that Ends Well
      Deftones- Diamond Eyes
      FKA Twigs- LP1
      Kamelot- Ghost Opera
Ovids Withering- Scryers of the Ibis
      Protest the Hero- Fortress

@@jpmp1201 One of the reasons I have always loved Orbital is because they really are a duo that loves hardware.
I definitely suggest checking out their Snivilisation album, because it's great and has a lot of interesting and, potentially, experimental tracks.
"Belfast" is one of my favorite tracks by them, I would also recommend "Tiny Foldable Cities," "New France (feat. Zola Jesus)," & "There Will Come A Time (Feat. Prof. Brian Cox.)"
The version of "Satan" on the Spawn soundtrack is fun! Orbital was paired with Kirk Hammett of Metallica on the soundtrack.
I haven't checked in on Eisley since the 2007 "Combinations" album came out, I am going to have to check out "Currents" because that art is sick.
Sigur Ros' ( ) album is a great argument for the physical format.
When I worked in music stores, everyone who worked in a record store knew eachother and stoped into eachother's stores to hang out, and nearly all of us agreed vinyl is a great format specifically because there is so much space to showcase the art
*That was just before all the record stores closed and the vinyl resurgence began.
I am going to check out some of those other albums you mentioned. I haven't even heard of Ovids Withering, Protest the Hero, or Chiodos, so I'll have to give those a listen.
      Thanks!

@@jpmp1201 Same. In high school, I walked to work and the mall was on the route, so I would walk through it to cool off, and on the weekends I'd swing into the FYE. I would usually grab about two or three CDs, at least one was something I knew I wanted but I'd get one or two just based on packaging, name, and song titles.
*Opposite the mall there was a music store where about once a month, after saving a few bucks, I'd swing after work and pick up a new cymbal, effects pedal, a new mic, or just get some accessories like cables and strings. The best worst thing I got there was a LP cowbell, (what I really wanted were woodblocks.)

Good song, just enough melody. Though I'm not a big fan of screaming vocals, these fit the song. You should do some In Flames, something like Deliver Us. Great riffs, heavy but catchy. As far as harsh vocals it was probably Linkin Park for me too. Trying to figure out why he kept needing to scream shut up so much. Food wise definitely a big steak

For the most part scream vocals is not my cup of tea. I was thinking "Killswitch" was the perfect name for this song/band, but Justin beat me to the punch line at the end of the video reaction . Sure felt like pressing the button. However, it wasn't all bad, I like the guitar work and when the dude wasn't screaming, there was some decent melody in the vocals. Overall not enough to interest me.
In regards to Manny's restaurant analogy, there's a flaw in the logic. Manny goes to an award winning gourmet burger restaurant and orders that award winning burger but is disappointed because he found a hair in the burger, and now will not return to the restaurant. Lets look at that logic.
You've read that this restaurant (The Band) is known for having the best gourmet burgers (Genre). You scan the menu (The Band's Catalog) and choose the burger (The Song) that interest you most. The waitress brings your order and the presentation is mouth watering. You bite into the burger and your taste buds are happy with the medley of flavors dancing in you mouth. You got your first taste and you are liking what you are eating. You take the next bite and its better then the first, some of the spice in burger is kicking in... oh wait, WTF is that... you reach into your mouth and pull out a hair (whatever it is you don't like about the song). You make a complaint and restaurant offers to bring you another burger. You refuse another burger. The restaurant offers other items off their menu (other songs) and you're like nope, don't care, this restaurant sucks, I'm out of here.
You're so pissed off you found a hair in your burger, you have to tell somebody, so you decide to write an article for Rolling Stone Magazine (JMPM reaction channel). And you just lay into the restaurant, but wait, the restaurant has a rather large following who love dining at that restaurant and couldn't careless about your article or opinion because it's not practical or logical
I love Rush for many reason, but do you think I love every song of theirs? Has your favorite actor stared in a shit movie? Point being if you draw conclusion on limited information, you could be missing out on something great.
