The characters not interacting with each other that much this season is natural. Because they are growing apart so it makes sense they're not spending a lot of time together.
@@greentaigo2552 Because the characters are all fleshed out enough to not have the whole show revolve around their interactions with each other but also have each other influence their lives through what little interaction they have. Diane and Peanutbutter sleeping together. Diane helping Pickles. Bojack and Diane (all season pretty much) PC and Bojack's talk in the trailer. The characters have sparse interaction but when they do, they influence each others lives a lot.
G. Foggy. I think Bojack Horseman is more just about the small changes we see, rather than huge ones. Todd becomes comfortable with his asexuality and that he isn’t made out to wear a suit, showing him be more comfortable with himself. PC finally gets a baby, showing that she believes that she can actually make it a little more. Diane stands up for herself a lot, especially to Bojack and Flip. Mr.PB gets really close to introspection, and starts to see the fault in his ways. Bojack doesn’t change really, but the ending basically is forcing him to be better to himself.
That was the best episode of the season in my opinion. It resonated even more with me considering we spent so much time with Beatrice and Bojack together the last season.
I thought the ending scene where Diane drives into the tunnel was a very interesting cliff hanger in of itself, because of the therapist episode where she’s depicted as princess Diana
yea i didnt get that the first time that i wach it , i dont think she will die on that tunel but maybe on the mid season , i hope she dont, that give me chills
It seems deliberate. As to why it's deliberate, that could be a bit more complex than simply killing her off. As well as hoping they don't do that... I agree, it does seem a little too obvious and also pointless. They certainly CAN kill off a main character, I won't put that out of the realm of possibility. But there would want to be a reason for it I think. To just be that random... would be a lesson they kinda already covered. Realistic as it is, it's still a story, and the point of every piece of it is still to be a story. I'm saying unlikely.
The casket episode was pure genius. Overall, the character arcs went dark. Diane came way with no redeemable characteristics, while the writers may have taken Bojack to too dark a place. The fact that Diane refused to listen to Bojack when he said "nothing happened," and tried to explain it; Diane didn't even bother to hear him out. In the earlier seasons, Diane was sort of the moral compass of the show. But she has fallen far because as Bojack puts it, she is "exactly like Bojack." Poor Mr. Peanutbutter, the hopeless romantic.
I really didn't think that a video with only 1,387 views would be this well thought out! Tbh you did a great job reviewing and analyzing this amazing season.
Anyone else think this season was better than the last one? Season 4 had some great moments but most of that is from the back half of it. While this season, season 5 felt consistent like they knew what they wanted to do with the season and did it
I loved season 5, 4 had the worse comedy moments, although the character development was really good, it wasn't fun to watch. 5 has the best pacing and works really well both ways.
Eh I thought season 5 was great I love the whole Diane and Bojack storyline. And I love what they did with HollyHawk. Seems like she has ptsd. This season was awesome. Season 4 was alright, my favorite episode from season 4 was how they portrayed dementia
The episodes feeling disconnected could be a meta-reference to philbert being an analogue to the show, with a narcissist writer both having no clue what he’s doing and thinking he’s a genius while improvising as the authors self criticizing. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it idk
What you mentioned about how the plot-lines jump around in this season is also relevant in the previous season. The only difference between them is this season created more framing devices and tighter pacing to show them.
I think it will be really interesting to get to know Pickles better, she's sweet and caring and attention loving and exactly who we thought Mr Peanutbutter was in the very beginning but her kindness feels much more real. :)
I absolutely loved this season and think it's the best the show has offered so far! Season 4 had some bumps along the way like Diane and her boring guns and feminism plotline. But here in The Dog Days Are Over and Bojack the Feminist, it's done much better
tbh I dont like what they have been doing with BoJack since season 3, dont get me wrong, for me season 4 is the strongest season so far (and 2 is my favorite) but I think they have been dragging Bojack suffering way to much just for entertainment, to the point that this has become some kind of (mental) torture porn, somehow you can see a pattern here, seasons with pair numbers (2 and 4) end up in a positive and hopeful note, while odd-numbers seasons finish on a depressing note with Bojack facing his lowest (up to that point). This show is starting to feel like a cruel game where the writers give Bojack a ray of hope at the end of a tunnel, but then they decide to push him in a black pit, just to throw him a rope and then cut the rope when he almost got to the top. If they are going to keep with this back and forth, I rather get a memorable ending for this show since I have not seen real development of the main character, only on season 1, 2 and 4.
Wow, you bring up a good point. Perhaps the darkest part of the show is the fact that we as the viewer are not satisfied unless BoJack is suffering at some point. A lot of the complaints you see are people saying the season wasn’t “dark” enough, mainly because BoJack doesn’t really get it bad until the last few episodes before ending it on a positive note like you said.
The one part that I thought unneeded...and very possibly I missed the reason, but the scene with the nuns and Margo Martindale. I've liked her character in the past, and I get that it introduced the Bojack balloon, but it didn't seem to add anything to the overall storyline or emotional understandings this year.
Pretty sure that Margo Martindale is intended to be a running joke. Shes not there to explain some amazingly intricate plot point and shes not there to progress the story. She is simply there because it is funny for us to see where bojack's antics have landed her and how she is now.
I don't know. Remember, she was brought in in Bojack's tricking Todd into failing with his play, and getting him to stay as he is, then she was utilized to help Bojack's attempt at stopping Mr.Peanutbutter and Dianne's wedding, finally, she was there to take the boat away, the one that had been Bojack's excuse to be in Montana, and where he was nearly with the 17 year old daughter. I'm just saying, in the past, her presence has normally shown depth to the storyline or the characters.
im aware she has played a bigger role in previous seasons however i think that at this point she has become a running joke. Because she has been slowly losing her mind as a result of bojacks schemes, she has lost her importance as a character and gained importance as comedic relief. IN THIS SEASON ALONE, she is there as a joke and to remind us the bojacks actions have left her where she is now.
Yeah, I would liked to have seen more of Margo. Her launching headlong into crazier and crazier Bojack schemes was fun. Yes, she's gone mad. But there is plenty they can do with that. This felt like a Margo placeholder, more than anything
I just realised something: In the episode “Ruthie”, PC’s great great granddaughter is shown talking about a day in PC’s life. But Ruthie is a CAT! And in order for PC’s great great granddaughter to be a cat, PC would have to give birth to her own children!
Isaac Santos Ruthy was a fantasy of PC. That was the point of the episode, of her trying to get pregnant, and showing her great grandchild, which proves she did eventually get pregnant, only to show it was all a fantasy, which means she never got pregnant, which is devistating, which is what this show likes to do to its characters. So yeah, PC never got pregnant and never will. She's too old now. Which is the point of her character. She was so driven to succeed in the business world, to escape her poor upbringing, and wasting 30s on Bojack, that she lost her opportunity for a family. She only realized this when it was too late.
+Isaac Santos Technically Princess Carolyn could still end up with a great-great granddaughter called Ruthie who is a cat. She could be a female cat called Ruthie thanks to having a parent who's a cat and being called Ruthie by her parents. Pretty sure that if a parrot and a dolphin have a child together it is either a dolphin or a parrot in the show's universe. At least it has been stated that if a human and an animal have a child together, the child is either a human or the same kind of animal as the parent that's an animal. (Hope you get what I mean; I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.) This cat called Ruthie would not be blood-related to Princess Carolyn and therefore not look so much like her, though, like the Ruthie we met did.
Is not that season 5 is bad, but it is certainly dissapointing. I expected to see Hollyhock's development, her mother, and his relationship with Bojack. To see Bojack making further progress thanks to the support of his sister. All we get from her is one episode and we literally learn nothing from her college life, friends, love interests, etc. Season 4 gave us Hollyhock and Beatrice (the mistery of her past, actually rather than the character herself). What does Season 5 give us? Well, two boring and stale characters: Gina and Pickles. To be honest, they're so empty, bad written and awfully developed, I don't think nobody couldn't possibly care less about them. Pickles is borderline retarded and not funny at all. Who write these characters, honestly? Not to mention the sjw propaganda which become more and more evident since season 3 onwards. Season 5 is overall ok, but not as good as you would expect after season 4.
totally agree about hollyhock but firstly Gina and Pickles weren't supposed to be interesting. they are both stepping stones for the main characters. and also. dude. lol. can't stand that you ve watched bojack and you talk about sjw
Reading... ... okay interesting perspective, agreeing somewhat, wasn't really disappointed with it but do see where you're coming from on preferring season 4... ... hmm interesting, yeah I was hoping for a bit more of Hollyhock's story too... ... I wouldn't say awful exactly, that's going a bit far but carrying on... ... AAAAAAAAAAAND there's the political bragword. And my brain switched off.
I just hate Tod. I really really enjoy the show, all the characters and plotlines, except Tod's. For me it is getting too unreal, too unfunny, too tiresome. I know he is there to be the comic relief, but i just don't think it's funny anymore. All this Todd is an idiot, and do not understand anything, has idiotic ideas that eventually overgrow to be something else while he gets to become successful without even understanding anything... it just goes on forever... this asexual problems also not funny imo. Everything is great about this show, but god I wouldn't mind if Todd would disappear... Give me more Margo Martindale instead.
I didn’t just wanna say that. I understand your points but... I don’t think you’re giving him a shot. He’s a mess. Remember at the start of the series, when he just was some 22-23 guy who had any purpose but existing and living with a guy whose practically poison. Bojack only took advantage from him, humiliate him every time he could and took it out from a place like that. Todd kinda grows up like everyone else but even if he's like only getting dumber it’s because he was designed like this. And the serie IS showing that even people like Todd have problems like this: search for his identity, what’s his purpose and all that stuff. Or they’re just playing around with the character, I don’t know.
Kind of agree. I've never been a big fan of Todd because he's pretty much always just the goofy comedy relief. Him being asexual and exploring it is interesting, but then they make the episode with him and whatever her name is going to her parents house and theyre all borderline sex addicts. That episode was hard to watch the first time, and not in a good way. Mr.PeanutButter finally realizing some of his flaws was the best part of season 5. That and the entirety of the Free Churo episode. That episode was a masterpiece.
urbanphil0s0phy What do you mean “feminist propaganda”? So bojack saying “don’t choke women” on a talk show is feminist propaganda? Lmao, get a grip man. Plus, it’s actually relevant later on in the season as it shows how bojack once again contradicts himself.
Sandy D Hey spaz. Don't put words in my mouth. Of course I'm not saying that. Even dummies like you should be able to see when shows start inserting agendas. Then again you might be too stupid to see.
I don't see where you're coming from to be honest, even as someone quite critical of this third wave/modern feminism movement in the west. It's a great social commentary while still delivering the good message about equality. If anything, that episode even makes fun of how feminism works in the entertainment industry.
The characters not interacting with each other that much this season is natural. Because they are growing apart so it makes sense they're not spending a lot of time together.

Max French not sure why but I love that episode it felt so raw and natural and lol so hard at the end.
I like free churro, but I think the showstopper was better

I completely missed that. Holy shit.
I think that’s a reach, I doubt they’re going to kill her off she’s one of the main characters

Agreed with the first comment you made. The lack of connectedness among the characters and their respective storylines made me so sad.
