The part where Diane bonds with Sonny over the book she wrote is one of the most beautiful moments in Bojack, in my opinion. Diane wanted more then anything to write something that would have a positive change on the world. She finally created something that can change the lives of people for the better just by virtue of existing, no extra action required.
Yeah, I wish they dived into Sonny as a character a bit more. Like, explain why the book had a big impact on him showing it's okay to have emotions and talk about them. If you don't you live in denial and break down crying at a restaurant.
This! He started to open up to Diane more after this (obviously not in front of his friends), his body language here when he’s speaking to Diane is different from when he’s speaking to her later about her book. I LOVE this show, honestly one of my all time favorites.
I felt kinda bad for laughing, like his mood went into a complete 180, like he was so self assured (but like in a casual way) and then he just bursted out crying over like the slightest challenge to what he was saying. I dont have anything against sonny he is a good kid (and also fictional) but idk it just was kinda funny to me
@@shady8045 Sonny was putting up a rickety wooden dam to stop his flow of emotions. Diane merely poked it and it fell apart. There was no 180, just the cracking of a shell to expose what's inside.
The way he talks about how his dad, and the type of women he dates, is way too much of an observational behavior for him to be able to notice, yet still be so in the dark about his own divorced parents constant fighting. I think his mom made Sonny believe that's the type of women his dad dates, and implanted the idea that they'll be back together, because she's still in love with Guy, and is using Sonny as an unknowing sabotage tool against any women he has a relationship with. It's kind of fucked up to think about.
Either that, or Sonny _is_ very perceptive, but Mom and Dad try to behave themselves and still act friendly around him to spare him the trouble of his parents going through a "messy divorce", and Sonny was not only never able to "peek behind the curtain," but his high hopes for his parents' reconciliation and a return to normalcy blinded him to any faults in their cordial demeanors that he might otherwise have seen, and no one else, until now, was willing to risk causing an emotional breakdown by being entirely honest with him.
@@Anastas1786 maybe, it depends on how long they've been divorced, though. Because guy would have needed to date multiple women that sonny would be able to notice that pattern. With what Sonny said, it probably wasn't the first time something like this happened. Not exactly the strangest thing to happen either when some people meet their lover's kids (I'm only speaking from experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt), but Diane and Sonny bond at some point so I'm sure this was just an awkward bumpy introduction for a step parent.
I think he was allowing Diane and his son to get to know each other, but somehow realized she said the wrong thing (while not angry at all). Almost the same as someone spilling the beans about being pregnant while their partner just said, "Are you kidding me, I just got back."
I absolutely was so happy for Diane when she bonded with Sonny over the book. She made a positive impact on someone special. I think Diane will struggle to be a mom but I think she will find her way! It's a shame we won't ever see Diane and Guy's wedding.
Well Sonny doesn't need a *Mom* Mom, and in a way that's better. He and Diane will be friends for sure and she'll be another trusted adult in his life. And it's lovely that she got to see that this book she wasn't sure about writing (because it seemed trivial and silly) does reach teenagers, even too-cool-for-books boy teenagers, first-hand.
I really like how Diane ballooned in her weight but no one shames her over it nor really mentions it, in fact she seems much happier at that shape than before.
I usually never feel guilty for laughing at the jokes in this show but damn, I felt like a bitch for spontaneously laughing at Sonny breaking down like that. Poor kid.
I understand Sonny's point of view Hes just a kid, of course he wants his parents together, but probably deep inside he knows that wont happen seing his dad date other people over and over so Diane confirming this was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. And why would he want to get to know Diane, if shes going to be gone the moment hid dad fixes her
I like to think that he secretly knows that unlike the other women his dad dated, she's a keeper. The other women probably didn't care to meet Sonny in the first place.
I guess that makes sense, I couldnt help but laugh at how sudden the confidence level and mood swing was. Not that I think its funny just like how someone would laugh at any tragic event in a fictional story, like bugs bunny having an anvil fall on his head.
