DC Rainmaker ALWAYS has deeply informative and useful reviews. Whenever I'm in the market for a new product I check out his review to determine product worthiness and whenever I buy a product I check out his "how to" guides to ensure I am getting the most out of it. Excellent stuff.

If they put some setting in Expedition mode, the possibility to choose 5min. 10 min. 20 min. Etc up to 60 min. It will be great for bicycle touring and long hikes.

I have yet to own a Garmin - I ordered a Fenix 6 today - so I would have liked it if you had described how the various buttons navigate. Trying to figure out which buttons you were pushing (often you had your fingers on two or more buttons) and what each button does was not easy to determine by watching.

Thanks for this Just bought a Fenix 6x sapphire Went from the learner model Garmin 235 then to a 935 now to the Fenix which is worth every cent. What did I learn from the cheaper models, they scratch easy, not as cool as the Fenix models, down on some metrics and the Fenix seems a lot more accurate while on the run. All have behaved for a long time with good reliability. The swim gps functions on the cheaper models while swimming in a river were not good ,which is my only criticism .. Thanks for the channel DC ,full of useful info for an informed choice

Generally love your vids / reviews and have made purchases based on them, but for me, this was not a helpful walk-through for my new F6s Sapphire. As an example, in many shots you're holding two buttons at once--3 and 4, etc. Which are you pressing? What do the five buttons do? Also, doesn't a new user want to know how to set up the watch and get an activity going? Looking at logs of activities after that makes sense, but that's where you start in this video. If your target audience was a new owner, this particular new owner didn't find what he was looking for here. But, again, I really appreciate your work in general. Thanks.

Another reviewer found what i think it a huge game changer when choosing between pro and sapphire and I’m curious if others are able to replicate his findings? When using the backlight in a dark environment (night time) on the pro vs sapphire, the difference is almost as big as between LCD and Oled screens. The pro is totally washed out with the familiar blue hue from past fénix watches while he sapphire has has very deep, almost Oled quality blacks,.

Have had four Forerunner 735s, as 3 have had to be replaced (free of charge and without issue) by Garmin as they stopped working during swimming or windsurfing. Hoping the Fenix will be more robust. Have you had any issues using the Fenix series in water? Thanks.

Hi there, great contents on TH-cam and wonderful analysis. I am sending this seeking your advise on a good garmin wearable that you can recommend.
I am mainly looking for a watch that can track my weightlifting (not in terms of reps and sets) but more likely the heart rate during the session and burning calories similar to what Fitbit offers. Any idea? Is the fenix 6 up to that?
    Thanks and keep it up

Hi. Great vid, love your content. Just a quick question though, I’m between an Apple Watch and a Fenix 6 and just want to know how the emails and text messages whatsapp etc appear on the watch? Ie when the notifications arrive how much of the messages can you view etc. Can’t see it on any of your vids, have you shown this somewhere? Or can you point me in the right direction? (I’m leaning towards the Fenix. Batt life, ruggedness, body batt features are all of priority for me. Just the smart features left for me to consider)

  • @Kavoriken

Love the Fenix line in general, but the pricing scheme is shit when you have to pay that much premium just to get a silver/titanium watch that actually has maps and music. Also can they please introduce some sort of better way to navigate the menus? Look at the complexity the menu system has reached on the fenix models over the years, it's insane. I know touch will have its issues, but we need some sort of apple digital crown or samsung rotating bezel to make scrolling easier.

Why is the altitude always wrong? If this watch has an inbuilt barometer, it needs to be updated reguarly to the local conditions to remain as accurate as possible. So, does the watch allow updating of the barometer, or use GPS to measure altitude which is closer to being accurate.

  • @hrplbg

You mention in the video that displaying seconds in the watch face reduces battery life. I googled info about displaying seconds and found an old Reddit post and someone said you had said "DCRainmaker said changes to the operating system have essentially eliminated all battery hit from the watchface showing seconds and that the new upcoming connect IQ (at least for Fenix 5, not sure Fenix 3) will allow 3rd party watchface to show constant seconds with no battery hit also." Is there a hit to battery life? If so, how much of a hit?

Hi Ray, just a question regarding the body condition metrics. If I cycle with my garmin 1030 it tracks everything and considers my conditioning, recovery time etc. . If I do a indoor Zwift session I don't get those metrics when it uploads to garmin/strava using original kicker. If I use my garmin Fenix 6 while zwifting I assume it will record all metrics , but then it gets 2 of the same workout uploaded to strava, 1 from kickr and 1 from watch. What if I don't save the watch workout and disregard, will it still get the recovery metrics? What is the best way would you suggest? Cheers mate. P.S. Didn't purchase the Crystal Sapphire model this time as the watch will be irrelevant in 12 months anyway. ;)

sapphire glass is better than gorilla glass gorilla glass is what they put on mobile phones that cracks when you breath on it wrong. Sapphire crystal is what they put on high end swiss watches and is nearly as hard as diamond and extremely hard to scratch. I would imagine theres no sapphire crystal on the solar version because it interferes with the solar charge or may be too thick.

What I want is one activity for the bike ride to the lake and back home. If I start a ride, I can pause and resume later. Provided that I don't do any activities in between. Hello! Never use UltraTrac unless you're literally going a gazillion hours very slowly (walking or slower). It's a horribly low GPS recording rate, so it'll skip lots of turns. I'd recommend GPS+GLONASS right now, it's what Garmin spends the most time optimizing in their testing.

Absolutely, I have a 5 now and love it. Hell even the 3HR is great choice for now if you wanted to dip your toes in. The only gripe I have about my 5 is I was wanting the Sapphire lens, I bought it off ebay listed as Sapphire, but its not. Kept it anyways and putting an extra screen protector on it. Battery life is great, smart watch features are amazing, and the data you can get from exercise, sleep, running..... you get the idea, will astound you. There are only a few features that you might miss with a basic 5, Garmin Pay maybe. The 6 has a few more features, but mainly due to the newer heart rate sensor and Pulse Ox.

I've just got mine 6x pro. What I've noticed is that there is less apss in the connect IQ store compared to what I had on 5 plus. I wanted to install run power but it's not there. Is it because of the different screen resolutions and all the apps need to be updated?

Dawid Rybczyński Chill dude, it’s a brand new watch, apps will come soon enough.

      @Dcrainmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nah, it's just the wonky way Garmin handles the app store. Realistically they just need to set all round watch faces to be compatible across the board, rather than each individual app owner has to approve them. It's cumbersome. In the meantime, I'd recommend poking the apps you like and asking them to list their apps as Fenix 6 compatible. :-/

@@Dcrainmaker Thanks, that's what I gonna do. I wanted to give running with power a go this time as my previous Fenix 5 plus was faulty and had to return it after a 4 weeks of testing. I guess I'll have to wait a little bit more...
BTW: many thanks for the coupon code at end of the written review. It saved me 10% (£65) here in UK.

How do you enable one of your power modes? Seems like I can only customise and there is no button for activate/enable the selected power mode.

Prior to moving to Amsterdam a couple years ago, I lived in Paris, and they were giving them out at the clothing store Le Coq, for which there was one a few blocks away from our apartment. Cheers!

How do you dismiss the alarm when it sounds? Each time I press a button when it sounds it automatically snoozes it for 10mins.

I bought two pieces of fenix 6x sapphire (for self and wife) thinking that setting it up was a piece of cake. It isn't. Linking it with phone, wifi and reading the manual to set it up to your own was a slow process. It took more time than understanding a new phone

Does anyone know a video that shows the navigation map for the base mode fenix 6? I know it doesn't have the topo maps but does it have the basic regular map of all plain white and a single route with gpx courses you downloaded like the fenix 3 does?
