Back before the game was patched, it was more common on console. If I am recalling correctly, it took me an average of 300ish runs. The Pre Sequel was an average of 70ish runs before the first patch on console. Those numbers are just based on memory and has no basis in fact.

In my over 400 hours of BL2 I think I saw a legendary in a vendor once and was baffled that it was even possible. Bl3 released and I found one in like the 10th vendor I checked. Thought I was extremely lucky, but before I was level 30 I had already found like 10 more legendaries in vendors alone. Bl3 really took the rarity out of legendaries and they didn't even add in pearls or the rainbow rarity to still give you something rarer to freak out over from time to time.

One of the worst things that I have ever had happen to me in BL2 is when I was planning on doing a vladof only run. In the fight for sanctuary DLC vendor there was a lyuda...but I didn't have enough money to afford it.😞 It was the only legendary weapon I've ever seen in a vendor.

9/26/24 there was a Conference Call in Sanctuary. He was lvl 78 and I was 80 so it made the gun lvl 78 and it cost $60M. I let him buy it, it was still rock solid though. He also got a Pearl from a random Skag like 30 minutes before that in the same session in Aris Nexus. It was just the 2 of us in the session. It was a pistol that had mad ricochet effects.
My first vendor legendary was also a nasty surprise in snowman dlc, and in that same map instance I got ANOTHER nasty surprise from the red chest on the map

Dude Joltz! I remember doing an ultimate Sal playthrough and upon entering Opportunity for the first time, I found an Unkempt Harold in the weapon vending machine at Level 22. I was so shocked as it was my first time getting a legendary in BL2 from a vending machine! Loving the effort!
The one time I found a legendary in a vendor (in BL2), was an ultimate Maya run while in TVHM, and it was a Bee Shield with decent parts if I remember correctly, (I have it in my storage thing I'll have to check it again.) It was in the vendor in Dahl Abandon right outside the Backburner.
After 325h of playing borderlands 2 i was a 100% sure it was just a rumor, i have checked every vendor since the start and still not seen a single one (note: its not like i have farmed it, just any time i run by a vendor even if im farming i always check out of habit)
Not sure it's possible, but getting a legendary pistol out of a cardboard box or cooler would be insane. Also on the topic of hyperion e-tech pistols, I managed to get a non-elemental e-tech hyperion pistol with the diamond prefix from butt stalion during a run years ago and haven't seen another since. These world drop videos remind me of a playthrough my brother and I were doing where we found a world drop cradle. We have a rule that if a legendary drops someone has to use it. I died a lot until I could replace it with something else

I did a bunch of playthroughs of TPS last year and found a ton of vendor legendaries, while I maybe found one or two in my entirety of playing BL2. Just wanted to share! For those who are wondering, wonderlands has a high chance of legendaries in the vendor at The Chaos Trials, I’ve seen 3 in a row, Leg ward, Leg sword and Leg armour
Ive found a few, but usually its during a normal/tvhm run and I can't afford whatever it is. Back in vanilla level 50 on 360, my brother and his friend found a legendary soldier in Sanctuary, and it was literally their only legendary because they didnt farm.
I remember getting an op10 perfect roll striker in the vendor in three horns divide. Was in my buddies server level boosting a low level character. Was so mad because he was afk and I didn’t have anywhere near enough money
Speaking of the Sham in the intro, I lucked up and got a 94 sham after 38 runs or so on TVHM, don't even use it after all that. I'm clueless when it comes to gear but wanted to jump on that trend!
I've got a level 20 shock resistant bee that I pass to all my characters. I got it at Ellie's in the dust. The odds of that that shield with a maliwan part at level 20 in a vendor must be ridiculous.
I got a Fabled Tortoise in the Friendship Gulag med vendor in maybe 2015, a year or 2 after I started playing. I have yet to see another legendary in a BL2 vendor outside of Torgue DLC.
My very first playthrough of bl2 back on ps3 found a flakker in vending machine right after fighting the loader bots at Overlook. Was first time seeing the legendary rarity and I couldn’t afford it..

Once when i was playing as Axton level 10 i found a Badaboom in Sanctuary. I sold most of my gear to get it lol.
