    This is an excellent way to show a Town and get a feel for the place . I prefer this compared to the 'Talking Heads' information videos .

    My ex if from Chitre! Lovely little city, but I liked Las Tablas better! Chitre doesnt look like it changed much in 15 yrs! Ate at the Rex Hotel many times! Prices are a bit higher than when I was there. We got filet mignon dinners at the Rex for about $14 with all the trimmings! My exes father is buried in that cemetary! A lot more gringos living there now! I can see why! Chitre's Baseball team is the Herrera Warlocks! Soccer is not one of Panama's most popular sports like much of Latin America. Housing has gone up, my landlord in Las Tablas offered to sell their house to me that I was renting for $24K in 2010. And it was a very nice place. That mall was being built when I was living there, wasn't finished before I left. That big hospital in Chitre you saw is the new CSS hospital it was being built when I left. Not a lot of nightlife in Chitre except during festivals. Like New Years, Carnivales (Mardi Gras) or Corpus Christi in June.

    Viv said you are happy wherever you are. To that end, can you do a video ranking your top 5 cities/towns in Panama? The criteria are as follows: (1) safety and security (2) convenience; medical, restaurant, road quality, restaurants, and other amenities.. (3) cost of living (4) weather (5) cleanliness / small community feel

    Chitre used to be country in the ‘90’s & we road horses there. It’s nice to see it more populated & a bit more progressive. I really couldn’t see the houses as you drove by. 😅

    • @laptopseniors
      @laptopseniors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wish we had a 360 degree camera huh? So you could see all around. Like any town, there were areas of beautiful housing and then so/so. You really have to spend a bunch of time in each place to see it all in detail.

    This was wonderful...thank you so much. I have 2 questions:
    1) Can you comment on mosquitos? I'm a magnet for them!!
    2) LOVED some of the music background...would love links if you could share.
    Many Blessings!

      @laptopseniors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great question. We felt none for the few days we were in Chitre. Actually I can't remember mosquitos in any of the areas we visited. Even in rainy season. But I'd guess there's some somewhere. As for the music, I grabbed it from a no copyright site back then but no idea of what it was. You might be able to Shazam it with that app.

      I think it's just like it used to be in the states etc. Just set up that way. Definitely not like in Italy or Mexico where you see lots of juryrigged connections from one home to another hanging out over the streets etc.

    • @gabrielricci4464

      we did a trip to Chitre for 3 months. In our opinion the weather was perfect. We love the heat. most Americans complained a bit about the heat, but are their own worst enemies. They never adapt to the climate. AC on most of the time. What a waste of money. We lived in SE Asia for some years and adapted to the same type of weather. easy to do, first no cotton clothes, they hold the dampness and don't breathe well. we always were light weight breathable clothes. In addition we will walk a lot in the hotter part of the day. we wear hat. in addition, we use fans in our our home. they provide hiking or sports clothes that provide efficient cooling a are low cost. Even though I am older than most, I ride mt. bike in the afternoon sun and usually don't sweat. I attribute that to allowing body to adapt to the climate. We arrived at a time when a gentle cool wind blew every day, and that was just perfect. Chitre had a seemingly boundless number of well stocked and clean super market. Nothing to say negative. also had a big box hardware store and construction supply store we could easily walk to. Also, down town had a multitude of shops that had anything you would want for your home. frankly speaking I found Chitre much more convenient to live in than any town I lived in the USA. We could walk every where for anything we needed, including restaurants and bakeries. The highlight was the very, very helpful people. In addition, many times the drivers would stop when the saw us just approaching a cross walk. the only place in the world I have been that that has happened.

    Good informative video! Thanks, one question . . . is it safe to cycle around the city? Are there any paths or trails? Is the terrain flat or hilly?

    • @laptopseniors
      @laptopseniors  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tough to say about the paths/trails. I doubt that. But there were lots of people on bikes in the city. For many, they don't own cars and bikes are their way of getting longer distances. Cars drive slow and there's not a crazy amount of traffic. It looked pretty safe to me but you'd have to think of non-N. American road rules. Our experience in S. America and central America too (heck even here in Portugal right now) is that unlike in US or Canada...you really need to LOOK for what's happening on a bike. You're not automatically in the right and cars need to steer clear of you. Bikers in N. America ride like they're in the right and are immune from danger. That wouldn't be the case south of the US. No driver will try to hurt you, but at the same time acting like you're in NYC or Toronto and not stopping/looking both ways etc....will not end well.
