Really good video. It's something I haven't really thought of much, why I tend to gravitate playing the same games instead of going out and getting something AAA. I always had a hard time coming to terms with just "liking what I like".
I can relate a lot to part 5. As I’ve gotten older, my mental health has for sure took a dive. It really does make it hard to even open my favourite games anymore, let alone complete new ones. I’ll always love gaming and I do still game a lot with friends but it doesn’t FEEL the same. I don’t think it ever will for a lot of us. I feel like I’m forcing myself to game a lot of the time (especially considering I’m unemployed at the moment and only studying on a course for further education) and that is never a good sign.
Another thing I would highly recommend is fiddling around the options menu for a more customized and personal experience experience! It’s often one of the first things I do in a game and it’s nice when the devs put in the option to toggle some stuff you may not necessarily like. Really great video looking forward to watching more of your content!
Also very true! Accessibility and graphical control settings are always nice when devs implement them. I'm hoping it continues to become more of a trend, especially with Nintendo games since they seem to fall behind in that department.
Part 1: Christ, you're right. I used to spend hours playing Megaman X8 as a kid, only to grow up and find out most people either didn't buy it or didn't like it... Part 2: it's like George Carlin once said: "Too many choices America, it's not healthy!" You raised some spine-chilling points here my friend. I recently felt that sense of childlike Wonder though. It happened because I used to watch caddicarus a lot and he discussed a game called Condemned: Criminal Origins. I was always a huge horror fan so I decided to pick it up and give it a shot. I ended up absolutely loving the game. There was no obligation, just a huge wave of fun. Even though my time was limited, I still found lots of joy in it because I wanted to play it, not because I felt I had to. Please keep up the great work. Love your videos 👍👍
Part 5 was right even if my parents are supportive I was often ridiculed for liking video games and anime it was often viewed as "immature" and "childish" it didn't affect me (cause I'm a baddie💅) but I understand your point! In the end enjoying what you like is very important!😍

You know, this an extremely difficult, but very true discussion. I really haven't enjoyed gaming as much as i once used too, I was born in 95, My very first game was Street Fighter II on the Sega Genesis when i was 4-5 years old, apparently i watched my dad hook up the Genesis so many times i just hooked it up myself and started playing the game, my dad got home pissed but he was impressed because he thought my mom hooked it up for me, the gaming that i truly remember the best was my time while i was in elementary school, i played on OG Xbox, played games like Dead or Alive 3, Rainbow Six 3, Doom 3, 007 Everything or Nothing, and XIII. I even played games online with my dad and a bunch of his friends he met over gaming. So many grand memories, But nowadays it is hard to even really appreciate and enjoy gaming, I enjoy coop gaming still, My most played game at the moment is Back 4 Blood, i play that with my brother, my sister, and her friend. Something about coop gaming is very fun still to me, but i remember being able to turn the world off, go on these crazy adventures in gaming, forgetting the world kinda sucks right now, and just being able to enjoy a game single player style. I even try to keep on streaming but i always just have a voice in my head saying "Hey, no one is watching, you are wasting your time streaming the game, go to sleep instead." It is such a weird thing that its kinda just fizzling out. Like i said the last single player game i remember beating was DAYS GONE. Gaming is something that can be enjoyed by me sometimes, but i feel overall it is just kinda here and there for me now. (gmod tho) All nighters on COD (4/WaW/MW2/Bo1/Bo2) The journey through Assassin's Creed. The wait n' anticipation for AC3 was insane. The whole 2012 plotline was top. etc. etc.. I'm 100% sure there are many, many, more countless amounts of nostalgic moments and memories in the labyrinthian vault that is my gaming "career". I'm so damn glad to have been born when I was and to have been there for a true golden age of video games.. If not "THE" "golden age" .. My advice to younger gamers is to expand your gaming catalog. Diversify what kind of games you play and make sure to play the classics. The very same video games that bore the many fruits that we still enjoy in our modern games. I would list some, but this comment is already running long. Some games may look dated or you might even hesitate to play them because you lack the proper hardware to play. Well, my answer is BUY STUFF!! Buy an old PS2. PS3. Play MGS4. Spyro, Syphon Filter or Jak n' Daxter. Buy an old Xbox. Play Brute Force, or the Fable series (play 2 if you only ever try one) Fable being a MUST play if you call yourself a fan of RPG games. I forget that the younger gamers among us.... Fuck why would I say that... Anyways.. the younger gamers...uhh around us.. (lmao) haven't played these games, that to me were just awesome games. But looking back now have slowly earned "classic" status. At least in my eyes... Oblivion. Fallout 3. Freedom Fighters. the original PC and PS2 era, Call of Duty games.. Holy crap. It's the genre I like to call "Uncharted" games, which try to be more like film. They're still well made, but I'd agree that they're typically pretty mindless.

This was an excellent video. I've noticed that I get game burnout more often now because I'm at an impase in my life and get periods of depression or boredom where I just can't find something to fill my time. While I've been going to therapy for years, those appointments can only cover so much and gaming isn't really one of them; so those suggestions of deleting games from your library or subsidising games into folders is a great idea. I'm also one to only really play single player games because I don't like to branch out and try multiplayer games (mainly because of the stigma that everyone on the other end of the mic has apparently banged your mom and some point) but games that I can play with friends or can make new ones is something that can definitely rekindle my love for games. Sorry for the long rant, but I had to get those thoughts out.
For some time the problem with choice was taken care of for me by the fact that I prefer to use Linux as my OS. Just a few years back this meant that any game not specifically designed for Linux would be at least a little painful to get up and running, especially if you didn't have top of the line hardware, let alone the aging hardware I had. The tendency with games to receive native Linux ports was and still is that they're likely to be an indicator of developers who don't rush things and care about those they are making these games for (not to say that the other devs always rush and never care). In the recent years however, Valve started *really* caring about gaming on Linux, first porting Steam and their own games to Linux, throwing money and developers towards Wine, the compatibility layer for Windows applications and most recently released a Linux based gaming handheld, to name just a few of their efforts. All in all, nowadays if you have a rig that is somewhat close to being released in this past decade and you run Linux on it, you can buy pretty much any game and so long as it does not use some very invasive DRM or anti-cheat software, it'll most likely work out of the box, with very comparable performance, sometimes even better than on Windows. Ironically though, by doing all that, they also brought over the problems mentioned in this well crafted video as well (and frankly fixing them would mean less money for Valve, so why would they?). Thanks for the suggestions at the end btw. Am curious to see who or what comes out of that cracking egg :)

It's hard to find a game that felt like it worth ths dedcation. One day you bought a game that was supposedly well recommended and next thing you're 24/7 hours on stardew valley because you don't have anything good to play
I've kind of grown out of even playing "completable" games, in the traditional sense. I mostly stick to niche multiplayer games with friends, and simulation racing, joining leagues to race in. Most games just don't feel worth playing, much less does it feel rewarding to complete them, so it just feels much more fulfilling to improve some sort of tangible skill, or hang out with friends, than play another Souls game, asset flip cashgrab, or broken, boring mess like Battlefield.
Lately I just play Animal Crossing where I can set my own goals. It's probably the game I've played the most outside of getting footage for these videos.
Unfortunately Nintendo exclusives NEVER go on sale, even games from a decade ago 😡 I end up playing a lot of the games in the great deals category. Metroidvania genre being my favorite.. Deadcells, Gaucamele, bloodstained, super epic, hollow knight, sundered, etc.. and I’m def guilty of completing 75% of a game before buying a new one out of boredom. Awesome video man, very relatable 👍
Yeah, I forgot to mention that part. Although, that has been changing more recently. It takes longer for them to go on sale, but nowadays I see games like BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles, and many more going on sale for 30% off. Third party games on the system go on sale all the time. I've also been playing Nintendo games much longer so I know what I'm more likely to know what I'll enjoy.

Unfortunately Nintendo exclusives NEVER go on sale, even games from a decade ago 😡 I end up playing a lot of the games in the great deals category. Metroidvania genre being my favorite.. Deadcells, Gaucamele, bloodstained, super epic, hollow knight, sundered, etc.. and I’m def guilty of completing 75% of a game before buying a new one out of boredom. Awesome video man, very relatable 👍
Yeah, I forgot to mention that part. Although, that has been changing more recently. It takes longer for them to go on sale, but nowadays I see games like BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles, and many more going on sale for 30% off. Third party games on the system go on sale all the time. I've also been playing Nintendo games much longer so I know what I'm more likely to know what I'll enjoy.
