    more advantages:
1 - they are immune to infestation or void corruption.
2 - the nerazim live on a dark planet and adapted to feed on invisible light. you can't starve a protoss.
3 - the spear of adun is powered by a star.

      4 - Literally time manipulation
      5 - Phasing armor technology
6 - Purifier data web and AI personalities means the Purifiers can have an army of Kaldalis / Fenix's (aka the Protoss' best warriors) until they run out of host bodies (which they could mass produce more)
They are stupidly OP, they're holding themselves back so much >_>

7 - Adaptability. Ben got it wrong in the video when he said the Nerazim don't have psychic powers, they just aren't connected to one another. Instead of drawing on the psionic energy of the Protoss collective (the Khala) they instead draw upon the latent energies of the Void. Any Protoss can learn to do this even if they maintain their connection to the Khala as Tassadar proved when he killed the Zerg Overmind. If you try to take away a Protoss's psionic abilities, they'll just use extradimensional energy instead

Ben forgot to touch more on the biology of the protoss so allow me to explain.
The protoss skin is pretty much an all purpose organ, they absorb sunlight and water for nourishment, they can hear through their skin and taste through it.
The average life-span of a protoss is around 1000 years but it can be extended through technology and psionic abilities.
It is never specified how the Protoss reproduce and they don't have any orifices so we can't assume they do it like most animals. My theory is that they reached a point where they are depended on their technology to reproduce and thus genetic material is harvested from both spouses and the child grows in an artificial womb in a laboratory.
Or another theory is that they do it like the Asari using their psychic powers to link the minds of the spouses and exchange genetic information through telepathy.

Well, they must reproduce sexually seeing as there are male and female protosses (otherwise, male and female don't mean anything).
How they do it exactly? I'm not sure. Both of your possible explanations would work in a sci fi universe, but not in real life:
      1. The possibility of natural evolution leading to them being completely dependent on technology is incredibly low.
      2. You can't exchange genetic material ( or any material) through telepathy. Not to mention that you need more than just genetic information to create a new living being.
My hypothesis is that they actually do have sexual orifices ( despite the lore saying otherwise) and they just reproduce like that. I know that it contradicts the cannon, but sometimes the cannon just doesn't make sense.

I have always rather liked the aesthetic of Protoss technology - it could easily have been a generic clean high tech sci fi look, but like the technology of the Eldar, that of the Protoss has its own visual lexicon and distinct identity that is pretty much always recognisable at a glance.

  • @jesusmora9379
    @jesusmora9379 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

protoss don't have any of those flaws:
1 - they are not declining. unlike eldar, they do reproduce. taldarim are the best example, as their society is based on the survival of the strongest, they are constantly dying and being replaced by new ones.
2 - protoss disunited anymore. the kalai severed their nerves and joined with the nerazim into a new empire. the taldarim went their own way but they could join forces again if threatened by a bigger foe.
    3 - they get allies.
4 - the purifiers joined the new empire and are treated as normal protoss. the collosi would be the only flaw, but they work with the purifiers and are only good against ground troops. any air or armored unit or anti-air defense can take them down very easily.

    • @SerLoinSteak
      @SerLoinSteak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Came here to say the same thing. Since the advent of the Daelaam, the Nerazim and Kalai Protoss have more or less been united. During the End War, Artanis chose to apologize for the mistreatment of the Purifiers at the hands of their ancestors and proved that he wished for them to integrate as part of Protoss society (even if they are simulacrums of other Protoss). And then once the End War was over, Alarak allowed any of the Taldarim who wished to leave and integrate into Daelaam society to do so. He might have only given them one chance to do so before going his separate way, but he also put an end to the hostilities between the Taldarim and other Protoss.
And with Amon's destruction, the Zerg have been freed from his influence and most likely won't wage their war against the Protoss. And without the Zerg to fight, that just leaves the occasional rogue Terran faction. Suffice to say that they definitely aren't losing population as war casualties on as large a scale anymore so if they were in decline, they aren't now.

The Protoss are OP. Their basic flying unit in SC1 was the scout. Although in game it was pretty much worthless, lore wise, they shot out anti-matter missiles (practically shooting nukes as a standard attack). They also can perform exterminatus, stop time, open black holes, print out machines, replicate the mind with 99% accuracy and so forth. In fact, if you take a look at the SC2 universe, its a miracle that the Terrans (humans) managed to survive. To note, the protoss aren't just one race. They are one species but different races. Amon had accelerated the development of the Protoss. This resulted in genetic branching of the species rather than a genetic shift. The differences between races caused war and the Khala was to reunite these different races. After all, your minds will be interlinked to others, feel their memories and emotions and so forth and it would be very difficult to fight each other.
The Nerazhim are those that favoured individuality. Without the collective mental force that is shared when one is connected to the Khala, the dark templar draw power from their own minds and the void, quite like the Taldarim. Unlike the Taldarim, they constantly discipline themselves in fear of being devoured by the cold empty but chaotic void.
A protoss known as Tassadar who was later revealed to be an avatar of a Xelnaga could harness the collective mental power of the Khala and the void to snuff out the suffocating mental entity like the Overmind, alone.
All in all, the existence known as protoss is an enigma. You simply don't know how powerful they really are. Especiallly if they throw away their morals.

If we go by what little lore we have:
    - Starcraft Evolution by Timothy Zahn cements the end of decline in Protoss. No real conflict technically exists to dwindle their numbers. (It's a decent book, so give it a read.)
    - The Purifiers are now part of the fold. You can thank Fenix for that one.
    - The Tal'darim are dicks, so I'll give you that one.
    - The Dha'uhl is no longer really applicable anymore. Artanis swept that stuff away and unified the different ideologies the best he could. Everyone was Templar by this point. See you later, caste system.
BTW, I must give props to Zagara in the same book I mentioned. Creating a Zerg strain that actually retvitalizes planetary life? Good show on you, Zagara. The Sara system would appreciate what you do. However, I'd like you to keep Abathur locked in a very small cell; you can't trust him as far as you can throw him.

Khalis, Uraj, and Khadarin crystals; the glowing blue crystals that the protoss use are organic, living, and intelligent psionic artifacts created by the Xel'Naga for the Protoss' use.
Their uses include magnification of potency, range of psionic abilities as well as being imprinted with any abilities that a protoss can manage either by themselves or in a group such as levitation, memory storage, cloaking, and linking the minds of all Xel'Naga creations... Ex: "The Khala"
Trivia: Every Khalai protoss who dies while connected to the Khala has their ENTIRE lifetime of memories and experiences downloaded into one of only THREE!!! "Preservers" (Protoss of extremely powerful abilities who serve as a reservoir of all collective protoss knowledge.)
Tal'Darim and Nerazim don't have Preservers because the severed their nerve cords and reject the Khala, they instead download their minds into small Khaydarin crystal slivers right before they die. So both of those factions have entire libraries full of beer bottle sized crystals containing the minds/souls/experiences of their entire peoples.
Zeratul actually did this partially and gave his crystal to James Raynor in Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty...

Im not sure about your sentence. Do you really think the nerazim dont have psyionic powers ? In case of doubt, they have as strong as the kalai (the main protos faction) . But they can get enven stronger cause the kalai limit themselves to only a form of psyionic usage the nerazim do t have such limitations cause their society is based around individual libertys. Meanwhile, they often focus on the psyonics tric getting the power from the void, its not forbidden to use both, just dangerous because you need a complete matery of both forms (simultaneously) to not risk wipe uself from existing and half a planet with it

So much wrong with this video, but I will only touch on a few points:
    1. The protoss don't go out of their way to defend other races. I'm fact, according to the khala the protoss should not/aren't allowed to "interfere in the matters of lesser beings, unless there is a direct threat to the empire" (Rhoanda, LotV campaign).
    2. The protoss's declining population isn't because they are "too wise for their own good" or because they are "restrained and wise" or anything like that, it's simply their biology, they just aren't prolific. What do you want them to do about it? Why is it considered a flaw as if it is a mistake which they made?
Also, their numbers only declined sharply as a result of the invasion of Aiur, before that, their numbers were pretty good.
    3. About disunity: almost every race in sci-fi and real life isn't completely United. And I'd say that having only 3 separate factions is actually very good, not to mention that the Khalai are EXTREMELY unified, and that they recently United with the Nerazim as well. Also, these fragmentations happened long before the population began to decline.
    4. About the banishing of the Nerazim: one important thing which you didn't mention is that this event happened only shortly after the Aeon of Strife, and also that the Khala was actually a restoration of the psionic bond which the protoss shared before this conflict. By rejecting the Khala the dark Templar weren't just rejecting a religion, they were rejecting a very fundemantal part of what it means to be protoss, and it was feared that they would bring a second Aeon of Strife.
    5. About psionic powers: the Nerazim do still have psionic powers, they just don't have the powerful psionic bond that the Khalai have.
    6. About the robots: again, they started using robots long before their population was in decline, and even is this wasn't true, using robots just makes sense even if you have enough biological troops: why risk the lives of people when you have machines?
About controlling the robots: what you said about the purifiers is true, but it happened very long ago. The modern protoss military robots don't have true AI and are all either automata or remote controlled, and thus would never rebel.
