I’m not a big fan of these Signature Editions but the Diamond Editions have always been the definitive editions of the classic Disney movies on Blu-ray. Why was there always a time limit for Diamond Editions? Like I don’t see the Signature Editions going out of print any time soon (because I can go to Best Buy for example and see Snow White in the Disney section where the movies are) but I always hated it when the Diamond Editions were then stored away into the Disney Vault. I really want to track down the Diamond Editions of Bambi and Beauty and the Beast and replace the Signature Editions I have because there’s literally more to the Diamond Editions than the repackaged Signature Editions. Also I hate it when eBay sellers make bootleg copies of these versions to profit off of your money, like you can look at an image of it and you can tell someone made it in their house, I hate scams. Overall I’m gonna be picking up the 4K Edition of the film and replace it with my Diamond Edition that I literally bought like almost a year ago when it was already OOP. I hope Aladdin gets a 4K release before the live action remake comes out in May. I’m still waiting for an Unbreakable 4K release from Disney to condemn with the release of Glass. I mean if The Prestige can get a 4K release for the Christopher Nolan 4K Collection then why not Unbreakable? I mean Touchstone / Hollywood Pictures films can STILL be released on home media by Disney but since their closures and Disney’s prime focus on their current financial companies and franchises (that being Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars/Lucasfilm) I doubt to see a future Touchstone / Hollywood Pictures Blu-ray or even 4K release in the future. I sadly hoped for a 30th Anniversary Edition of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (which is a Touchstone title but in my opinion it’s technically a Disney movie though it has characters from Warner Bros., MGM, etc.) last year but hopefully another time. The 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray is the best I can have at the moment.
Carter Lovejoy Traditionally, Disney movies have been put on a cycle of re-release every 7 years. This began waayyy back in the 60s, when Disney re-released their movies in theatres every 7 years for everyone to watch again. When the movies finally made their way onto home media, they followed the same rotation. It not only allowed the movies to be “upgraded” and “restored” with every generations newest technologies, but also allowed new generations of audiences to be introduced to the movies (while older ones had a once-in-every-seven-years chance to rewatch). The Signature line has somewhat avoided this cycle because it’s a pretty outdated model. Disney liked to control how and when people could see or buy their movies. Now that the movies have been reissued over and over on so many different platforms (VHS, Laserdisc, Beta, DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, digital), the market is saturated with copies and they can no longer control the market - and the releases are no longer the “event” they once were. Because, quite simply, the movies are so readily available now. This cycle is what you’d hear referred to as “the vault”. Europe, UK and Australia dumped the vault YEARS ago and all movies are available at all times. With the Signatures, the US market are finally moving away from it too. Interesting to see how they’ll handle this on their streaming service.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder On that note, do you think the Signature Collection could be the last line of home media re-releases for these movies, at least for a while?
I hope they restore the Part of Your World scene back to its original version. To explain what I'm talking about, in the last home release when it was released on blu-ray, they screwed up the editing so it flowed out of sequence. Originally the scene would end with Ariel reaching out of her grotto, then descend while musing "Wish I could be. . ." (cut to Flounder looking sad for her) then back to Ariel to finish. Instead, the sequence would cut to Flounder before Ariel descends and the audio winds up out of place, constantly giving me a feeling that something's not right.
Yep, they screwed up on that somehow -- but they *did* fix it as part of a replacement program, for those who wanted it. I have no doubt the fixed version will be used again for the Signature. They've fixed issues on the previous films for the Signature, so I can't see why they wouldn't here.
So that means it's coming out of the vault?? And I can buy it right here on TH-cam? I've already bought Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin on here so it would be nice to have this one to complete the collection. :)
im ok with the Blu-ray to be honest while its my fave animated movie 4k for me wont add much extra to it that I don't get from my normal Blu-ray, the animation is not all that great with it being old style hand drawn 4k wont make it actually look any better than the 1080p version or 1080p that's being upscaled on a 4k tv
Disregarding the movie’s animation as “not all that great” because it’s “old style hand drawn” completely disregards this movie’s gorgeous animation and the artwork that was lovingly crafted by the artists. Little Mermaid was hand drawn, inked and painted onto ENORMOUS large scale cels and background rolls. This is the most pure and truest form of animation as an art form. The 4K master of this will reveal the artwork at it’s full definition and will likely reveal details (like brush strokes, ink lines and other textures) like never seen before. With an image 4x greater than Blu-ray, this will look phenomenal. I’m calling it right now - this will look better than any computerized animation upscaled to a 4K presentation. If this is your favourite animation - I’d support this release wholeheartedly.
Will you be doing a video about the new Grinch movie? I see it has a 3D edition releasing in the US/UK along with exclusives from walmart, target and best buy.
The artwork for this one the gorgeous and reminds me of the VHS for some reason. Another reason to get this, if you were one of the poor unfortunate souls (sorry I had to) who got the Diamond Edition with the 2 scenes swapped in Part of Your World. I got the last Steelbook at my store and couldn't resist. I'm hoping we (eventually) get Snow White rereleased on 4K and of course Sleeping Beauty
I love this movie so much! It’s been a part of my world for my entire life, pretty much. I was born the year before it was released. I’ll definitely be picking this up.
Dave Lee Down Under awesome~!! The Lion King is another big favorite of mine. I remember seeing it in theaters and not too long after, my parents bought me Simba and Nala toys that had magnets in their noses so they could “kiss”. ❤️❤️❤️
While I'm glad that The Little Mermaid is getting a 4K UHD release for its 30th Anniversary this year, I'm once again appalled at most of the Platinum and Diamond Edition bonus features are once again being moved to digital only, like the Signature Editions for Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp. If the Signature Collection Blu-Rays for Pinocchio, Bambi and Peter Pan carried over the classic bonus features on disc, I don't see any reason why Disney didn't do the same for the former four. If I were calling the shots at Disney, I'd make sure all the classic bonus features were on disc for every Signature Collection release in addition to the new ones.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder that seems like a missed oppertunity. There are collectors that would buy them all just to have a complete collection. I hope we get Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, and the Princess and the Frog.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE ARIEL. THIS MOVIE MEANS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TO ME. I. CAN'T. WAIT. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH (WHEN CAN I MARRY ARIEL. SOMEONE TELL ME WHEN SHE IS FREE).
I'll be sticking with my 3D Diamond Edition 2-Disc set (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital). Same goes for The Lion King. So sick to death of having to buy 3D and 4K copies, doubling up on everything. Enough is enough Disney! Release movies with both 3D & 4K editions together!
To be fair, 4K wasn’t around six years ago when the 3D was released and Disney no longer produce 3D discs so it doesn’t really make sense for the two versions to have been bundled at any point. In a perfect world I’d like a set containing both too, but given the circumstances and the time between releases (re-releases of these movies every decade is inevitable), I think we can cut them some slack
I want Disney to re-reissue The Lion King as a 25th Anniversary Circle of Life Collector’s Edition in 2019 this year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Lion King and it would include some new bonus features like some for the 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King!
I actually have been trying to update my disney collection as I've mostly only have dvds. So figures by the time I get around to buying Blu - rays, there is 4k. I'm always behind. However The Little Mermaid is a personal favorite of mine, so i have to have this no matter what. I'm going to try to get that best buy edition. I usually don't care too much about having a nice case for it but since this is my favorite animated musical, I feel like that would be beautiful to have. While I am happy about this, I feel like they should be working on re-releasing Fantasia, that seems to be the hardest for me to find on blu-ray and i'm sure that would look great in 4k.
Yep, this set should be BEAUTIFUL! And Disney’s slipcases are incredible. It’ll be good to have the 4K for future proofing. I’m dying for a Fantasia re-release myself. It’s my favorite Disney film. It’s been VERY hard to find because they didn’t release many of the last edition... I think they discontinued it after a couple of months... and that was close to 10 years ago.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Oh So that explains why it's so expensive on Amazon then. It really is due for a re-release then. I noticed that lately Disney bundles their movies with the digital versions and I think that it would be great to have Fantasia for both 4k, blu-ray and digital.
Yep, typical Disney - they’ll either discontinue a release a year or two after it’s come out or about 12 months before they plan on releasing a newer version.
I was expecting a "The Little Mermaid Disney Signature Collection" edition Blu-ray and DVD release, but not next month. I was expecting it to come out this November or December and that one of it's bonus features would be a sneak peek at the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid" hopefully starring Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab! When will the original animated feature's direct-to-DVD sequel and prequel come to 4K, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD? Will they come to 4K, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD this November or December? Will either the direct-to-DVD sequel or prequel include a sneak peek at the live-action/CGI remake and will the live-action/CGI remake star Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab?
Sebastian Hale There’s no live-action Little Mermaid officially announced by Disney - there are rumors however. So, since there is no movie currently in production, it’s very unlikely we’ll see anything this year.
There was so a live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid" announced by Disney! It's just not in production... YET! But it will be later on this year or the next. Alan Menken is working on the songs for it and Rob Marshall is going to be the director of it. They hadn't confirmed a cast for the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid" yet, but my suggestion is that Francesca Angelucci Capaldi shall play Ariel because she has long red hair and a beautiful voice just like her, Noah Schnapp should play Prince Eric because he's very handsome with short black hair just like him and it would be as if Disney brought Charlie Brown and the little red-haired girl together, Phyllis Smith should play Ursula to show people that villains are evil on the outside because they're sad inside and Jamie Foxx shall play Sebastian the crab because he has performed in some musicals, did voice work and sang love songs before.
No, they can't use Samuel E. Wright the original actor for Sebastian the crab in the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid", @ElTortugaAnime ElTortugaAnime That would be too predictable and, besides, I don't think Samuel E. Wright is still around and he's probably retired by now, so I recommend that Jamie Foxx shall play Sebastian the crab. I don't think Jodi Benson can reprise Ariel nor play her late mother in the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid" either. Jodi Benson doesn't even have long red hair and she's an old lady now, so I recommend that Francesca Angelucci Capaldi, who DOES have long red hair as well as a beautiful voice and is young too, shall play Ariel and, perhaps, Madeline Petsch could play Ariel's late mother as well as the little-bit-older Ariel marrying the little-bit-older Prince Eric.
Well, alright, Jodi Benson could play Ariel's late mother, Queen Athena, in the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid", but may I remind you that she will only be seen at the flashback when King Triton tells Ariel what happened to Queen Athena, who got killed by a moving ship. I think Jamie Foxx will be just as excellent voicing Sebastian the crab as Samuel E. Wright.
I'm sure Francesca Angelucci Capaldi, Noah Schnapp, Phyllis Smith and Jamie Foxx will be just as good or even better than Jodi Benson, C. D. Barnes, Pat Carroll and Samuel E. Wright. We'll just have to wait and see. The point is you don't always get what you want in life, instead you get something better. For example, I had once wanted a Schleich glyptodon, but I got three Schleich dinosaurs instead. So I'm sure you'll like Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab better than Jodi Benson as Ariel, C. D. Barnes as Prince Eric, Pat Carroll as Ursula and Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian the crab.
Is the target edition an actual book like lady and the tramp/Lion King etc? I'll probably be picking up one of every edition, I love this movie so much 😃 P.S. that is one sexy steelbook😍
Honestly I think it's pointless having a movie that we have seen billions of times despite the fact the film is 30 years old this year. Cannot believe it's that long ago since this film was released. I was 7 when I got this on VHS and years later I rebought it on DVD. My 3rd favourite Disney animated film of all time
Disney65Fan Disney re-release their films every 6-7 years so that each new generation can be introduced to the movies. If they don’t, they disappear, die and lose their timeless quality. It’s great that the movies are kept on a constant cycle - and it’s great for people who missed out last time around. Anyway, great thing is, we’re not being forced to buy it, but the option is nice.
i never got the diamond bluray release and i kick myself for that =( or the double movie set of the following movies and now since there out of print there selling a arm and a leg =(
There were two special features about the Broadway show on the original Platinum DVD, which were carried over to the Diamond Edition, and will feature here as Digital-Only. Seems silly to go back and make new features for a 12 year old Broadway show when there is already two decent features on it.
I already bought the Diamond Edition that came out back in 2013. So I think I’ll pass on this one. Still great video nevertheless! So, The Little Mermaid gets released on the same day that Wreck-It-Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet comes out on video, eh? Very interesting! Well, thank you for posting this video!
Yaaaaaaaay it will be released on my birthday 🎂. 02/12and as a matter of fact I share my birthday with Tara strong the beautiful lovely voice actress of princess melody Ariel and prince Eric’s daughter. And three of Ariel’s big sisters in Ariel’s beginning
is it just me but.. i prefer the original non"hd" version i guess.. its more nostalgic and the hd sharpens the lines of the art way to much where it changes the entire look of it
I know plenty of people prefer to watch the movie in SD, because it's nostalgic for them. But fact is, the HD version is the superior presentation of the film. The brighter, more accurate colours and sharper lines are more representative of how the original artwork was. The softer look of the SD version is a result of the film's quality being downscaled for VHS / DVD.
I hate Best buy I wish are anybody else but then would have had the steelbook, anytime I want to order something that always gives me the same excuse not within 250 miles of your zip and never can buy anything.
Scott Sullivan the only thing I could possibly think of that RealmOfWonders is talking about is the priest at Eric and Vanessa’s wedding. His knee popping out of his robe was mistaken by some as an erection, so it was straightened out starting with the Platinum Edition that was released in 2006.

I want Roger Rabbit in 4K too!
ByChris Channel same. I wish they did a sequel to Roger Rabbit kinda like how they gave Mary Poppins a nearly 55 year later sequel.
@@carter_lovejoy AGREED!!!
I was 4 years old when I first saw it in theaters, and it's my first theater release movie too!
Amazing! I must be a little younger than you - my first movie at the cinemas was The Lion King, I was about the same age 😊
The Walt Disney Signature Collection re-releases suck if your getting the DVD versions because they have absolutely no special features
Disney don’t put special features on any DVD and haven’t for around 5 years. Not sure why anyone would buy them.
4K UK edition ???
I’m getting this
Dave has the Australian 4k release have all the bonus features of the US release???🤔🤔🤔
No, unfortunately. The special features are only on the Blu-ray disc and not the 4K disc - the Australian edition is a single-disc 4K-only release.
I'II get us version
Thanks Dave👍👍👍👍
Thanks for that. I was unsure if to buy the Blu-ray/DVD Or the 4K Blu-ray as. I bought the diamond edition recently. But I've made up my mind now
Great!! 😁
i see some screencaps from bluray.com and the transfer is totally new in the Bluray 1080p!!! actually the same new master from the 4K version.
This looks nice but I haven't watched the little mermaid in a long maybe I will watch it see if it holds up and maybe pick this up
Little Mermaid is a timeless classic, it most certainly holds up 😎
Are they gonna do the same thing with sleeping beauty for her 60 anniversary
Most likely
I'm wondering if they fixed the editing mistake in Part of Your world. It really bothered me on the Diamond Edition.
They fixed it years ago as part of a replacement program for that disc. Very likely it’ll be the fixed version on this new edition
@@DaveLeeDownUnder So glad to hear, my version still has the mistake.
So that means it's coming out of the vault?? And I can buy it right here on TH-cam? I've already bought Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin on here so it would be nice to have this one to complete the collection. :)
Happy early 30th, Little Mermaid. And happy early 25th, Lion King
im ok with the Blu-ray to be honest while its my fave animated movie 4k for me wont add much extra to it that I don't get from my normal Blu-ray, the animation is not all that great with it being old style hand drawn 4k wont make it actually look any better than the 1080p version or 1080p that's being upscaled on a 4k tv
Why can't they just put the classic bonus features on a bonus disc?
It's probably cheaper for them to make those digital features instead of making disks to put them on. I wish they were on disk, though.
@@123Yellowberry123 aka a lazily desperate money saving tactic
The artwork for this one the gorgeous and reminds me of the VHS for some reason. Another reason to get this, if you were one of the poor unfortunate souls (sorry I had to) who got the Diamond Edition with the 2 scenes swapped in Part of Your World. I got the last Steelbook at my store and couldn't resist.
I'm hoping we (eventually) get Snow White rereleased on 4K and of course Sleeping Beauty
Thx so much for the vid!!
We have yet to see released:
Cinderella
The Jungle Book
101 Dalmatians
Sleeping Beauty
& Aladdin
Pleasure! I'm sure we'll get them all again in due course.
I love this movie so much! It’s been a part of my world for my entire life, pretty much. I was born the year before it was released. I’ll definitely be picking this up.
That’s great 😊 the movie is a little older than me, but I have that connection to The Lion King!
Dave Lee Down Under awesome~!! The Lion King is another big favorite of mine. I remember seeing it in theaters and not too long after, my parents bought me Simba and Nala toys that had magnets in their noses so they could “kiss”. ❤️❤️❤️
What would you recommend? Best Buy or Target edition?
Depends on the collector. I personally really like the art on the Target Edition.
I have both blu Ray and 4K released because I’m a sucker with Disney movies
Do you think Disney is planning on releasing BestBuy and Target exclusive of all their animated movies or just their most popular ones?
It will only be the ones in the “Signature” line. Certainly not all 50+ of them
@@DaveLeeDownUnder that seems like a missed oppertunity.
Calm Down Dude Ariel Is Only Just A Character Drawing That You Could Never Marry
I may buy the 4K since I just upgraded my tv but I don’t have a 4K player but I really want that steelbook
I’m getting all of the Signature Editions.
Wait this is already out?
No, end of feb
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Oh okay
@@DaveLeeDownUnder
Oh So that explains why it's so expensive on Amazon then. It really is due for a re-release then. I noticed that lately Disney bundles their movies with the digital versions and I think that it would be great to have Fantasia for both 4k, blu-ray and digital.
I'm leaning towards the Steelbook or the Target exclusive. The only version of this film I own is a special edition...VHS.
Oh wow! Definitely time for an upgrade!!
Dave Lee Down Under Absolutely
I said on Instagram. I'm so down I'm "Under the sea"! 😁😂
Oh Wow! 🧜♀️🧜♂️
I was wondering why I couldn't find Little Mermaid ANYWHERE on store selves for the past year.
Yay I Love The Little Mermaid It's My Favorite Disney Movie Ever
🧜♀️
I love it but honestly I don't like the art work for these covers but thank u for this!
I'm gonna say right off the bat it's worth it for me. My copy right now is VHS...
DEFINITELY worth it then!
Is the target edition an actual book like lady and the tramp/Lion King etc?
I'll probably be picking up one of every edition, I love this movie so much 😃
P.S. that is one sexy steelbook😍
It’s listed as a digibook, but the packshots look like it might be a digipack with a booklet
The steel book creeps me out those eyes but the rest looks good
i never got the diamond bluray release and i kick myself for that =( or the double movie set of the following movies and now since there out of print there selling a arm and a leg =(
I lost my vriginity to the little mermaid
they couldn't do more about the Broadway and touring shows and a making of the shows.
That’s awesome!!! 😁😁
Happy birthday for then!
Can't wait
is it just me but.. i prefer the original non"hd" version i guess.. its more nostalgic and the hd sharpens the lines of the art way to much where it changes the entire look of it
I know plenty of people prefer to watch the movie in SD, because it's nostalgic for them.
But fact is, the HD version is the superior presentation of the film. The brighter, more accurate colours and sharper lines are more representative of how the original artwork was.
The softer look of the SD version is a result of the film's quality being downscaled for VHS / DVD.
They’re just going to keep releasing new releases original movies until the end of days
Good! That’s how the movies remain timeless and continue to be introduced to new audiences.
Otherwise they get lost to time.
Since I cannot afford buy a 4k player and a tv so... xD cancelled my amazon order.
