Was really impressed with the 4K restoration. The Blu Ray looked stunning, but like most 4Ks, this new version has the better quality. Adding more crispness and vibrancy to the image.
I was worried because the last release was soooo grainy! the second you said it was remastered, I bought it on itunes. WOW! it's like you said! it's like you watching the original artist's drawings on a table and not just a movie! sooo clear! even in 1080p! it's striking and like seeing the movie new all over again!
Got mine ordered. Can't wait to see the new master. I think we'll probably be seeing a 4k release of Frozen soon, in preparation for the release of Frozen 2.
I have the Diamond Edition, so yes I would like a rundown of the differences. I usually don't believe in getting the latest DVD version of movies that I don't already have, but in _this case_ I gotta have the best quality of this movie and the best behind-the-scenes features when it comes of one of my top-favorite Disney movies _ever!_
Nice unboxing and review! I got the Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook and it surprisingly had artwork of Ursula and Sebastian on the 1080P disc! I unfortunately don’t currently have a 4K TV so I haven’t seen the 4K disc. But I did watch the Blu-ray Disc and I would have to agree with you about this transfer being a bit superior to the Diamond Edition from 2013! 😄
Just got mine today! Little Mermaid is a favorite of mine and I never had the blu-ray before so this made me rather happy. I don't have a 4k set up but I'll be able to enjoy the blu-ray and digital of this movie so that is good enough for me.
Definitely worth the double-dip! All the features on the Diamond are fantastic, and the new transfer is incredible. Between both sets, you've got the 'ultimate' presentation of the film.
I got to see _The Little Mermaid_ in 1989 in the theater when I was seven years old. In other words- I was right smack in the middle of the target audience when it came out, and the timing could not have been better, because I was a child at the time of Disney's Animated Renaissance and got exposed to all of those wonderful animated movies- _Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Rescuers Down Under, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame_ and more! Despite being a hetero guy, Ariel remains my favorite Disney princess. (Yes, I'm a 36yr old Arielholic. Shut up.) _But_ for my list of my favorite Disney animated movie _character,_ I have to say that Ursula the Sea Witch scores way higher than Ariel just because she's a bloody-good scene stealer every time you see her in the movie, she's written, directed, animated and performed way better, and you can always _feel_ the lack of backstory dragging on you just as assuredly as if she were hanging on to you with those tentacles. [And, despite not being a chubby chaser in reality, I find Ursula to be more than a little sexy too! (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵) ]
I'm not really a fan of grain removal, I liked the grainier appearance of the last transfer. But I guess I'll accept it as long as the images keep their detail.
I'm just about to order mine from Disney movie club. I cant wait, this movie is so good and the special features look as good as the ones on beauty and the beast signature edition. I really hope the next signature edition is either fantasia or Aladdin. Fantasia is too expensive for the north American version of the film that is already out. For Aladdin I have the platinum edition and if I upgrade, I want the best looking version to be what I purchase which I hope the 4k can do. So glad you are doing more Disney Blu-ray review/unboxings again Dave. I did miss these a lot so I happy there coming back. Keep up the great work.
I agree. Fantasia is. Its also super super hard to find even used here in the US. Fantasia is my favorite and I hope its next so I can pre order it and get the target digi book version. But I have a feeling the next one they are gonna release is Dumbo or Aladdin since the live action movies are coming out. Could be wrong but who knows since they arnt going in order with this collection.
I'm hoping Aladdin comes soon too. It might be a smart move so as to cross-promote the live-action version coming out, although it's been in the vault the shortest time, to my knowledge. People on the Wiki have also predicted that Sleeping Beauty might be soon, since this will be its 60th anniversary.
This was incredibly helpful as I had difficulty finding all the goodies for my 4K edition. Also thanks for recommending the Target exclusive! They ran out fast!!!!
Thx 4 the vid! I added this one to my signature collection Which of the remaining 5, which 2 do u think will be release this year?? I think The Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty Next Year Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians and Aladdin.
I'd say we'll probably get Aladdin this year to coincide with the live-action, though it may seem a little early. And I also think we'll see Fantasia pretty soon. I think we'll see Sleeping Beauty towards the end of the line since it's already had 2 Blu-ray releases in the US (Platinum and Diamond).
Who would be your ideal casting in Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid live-action remake? Either Zendaya or Ariana Grande would be perfect as Ariel. Lady Gaga as Ursula.
Yes, Lady Gaga would be perfect for Ursula! She could pull off playing the sea witch as well as Vanessa! As for Ariel, I'd go for Ariana. I love Zendaya too, but she's so tall. I think Ariel should be petite. (Lady Gaga is petite as well, so it would be weird if Ariel were taller than Ursula, unless they fix it with special fx.)
"The Little Mermaid: Signature edition" 4K, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD is available now but I was expecting it to come out later this year and would include an exclusive sneak peek at the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid", hopefully starring Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab! When will the Disney movie of The Little Mermaid's direct-to-DVD sequel and prequel come to 4K, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD? Will they come out later this year and include a sneak peek at the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid", hopefully starring Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab?
The live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid" will be in production, @@DaveLeeDownUnder and I'm desperately hoping that Francesca Angelucci Capaldi will play Ariel, Noah Schnapp will play Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith will play Ursula and Jamie Foxx will play Sebastian the crab in it!
When did The Little Mermaid's direct-to-DVD sequel and prequel come to 4K, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital HD as Disney Movie Club exclusives, @@DaveLeeDownUnder Why don't you make a TH-cam video answering that question?
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Does this new 4K edition finally have the film presented in its original 1989 theatrical aspect ratio? Because from what I remember, the 1999 Limited Issue DVD was the only way you could see the film in its full original aspect ratio, whereas the 2006 Platinum Edition sorta cropped it to enhance it for widescreen, as did the 2013 Diamond Edition.

There is no such movie in production, therefore, such a feature would not possibly exist.
