Grigori is simply the best dragon in all of gaming, perhaps all of fiction. Yeah, I said it.
He challenges us physically, yes, but perhaps most interestingly he challenges us philosophically, as character and as player. He asks us what our purpose is, why are we doing what we are doing? If living is the goal, then running face first into a dragon is foolish, but there's more to living than mere survival... He contrasts us to the goblins, who are easy to fathom, simple survival for fear of death, which he immediately demonstrates by scaring them off, Grigori himself acting as the death the goblins seek to avoid.
There we are, an adventurer, a hero, a player of a videogame, running head first into seemingly impossible odds. "Come to face death incarnate arms in hand". Yet the fight is only secondary to the true test: A test of willpower. Grigori foreshadows this when he comes to meet us at the greatwall: "The choice lies not with me, nor with the whims off fate, it is yours alone". If you wait a moment before making your choice after his monologue, Grigori will continue speaking, highlighting again that the true nature of your struggle is not physical but one of willpower: "Though I called you here to me, it was ever your own will, your own two feet that brought you here".
To me, Grigori is a metaphor for struggle itself. Only in the fires of struggle are we forged to be better people, and only by being forged can we take control of our own destiny.

And after I saved her ass, she rebuked me and had me whipped.

Because you drop straight into the fight, they should have had a build up, suspense and climax which the second game lacked. The bit when you are running away and then towards the tower with the ballista adds so much more to the fight than riding its back while listening to dialogue.

Could also just be that Grigori was the name the cult of salvation called the dragons but Grigori is also used by the DG1 Dragon in wyrmspeech in DG1's prologue. It's stated he's just created from the Greater Will (from "oblivion" and not a former Arisen) so why does he want us to break the cycle if he's what's keeping the world from dying? Why is he even mentioning a different possibility since a world free from the cycle is now susceptible to oblivion since there's no "story"/"purpose" to keep the world straight.
Unlike in DD1 where his actions and words give the context that he WANTS you to kill him (which is shown because he's a former Arisen that wants to die and is being controlled by God) and is impressed with humanity in which they will ago against the natural instinct to survive.

The Alduin you see in game is like not even accurate to begin with. Bethesda main story is worse than the mid part of the plot of DD that nothing happens, because it's heavily simplified.
They used the excuse that the games are just representations of the events because they are too lazy to do an actual good bossfight.
Alduin can grow in size, getting even bigger than Mundus (The Universe in tes) because he literally eats it. There's another books that he's seen in that depicts him being taller than mountains and he literally bit off a mountain and ate it casually while he was fighting Merhunes Dagon before he became a deadric prince and his defeat by Alduin is what turned him into Merhunes Dagon.
So when you compare the lore feats you notice that bethesda really fucked up on Alduin's portrayal in game.

Riel I didn’t really read any of the books in game, and it’s crazy to believe that Alduin was suppose to be this great dragon. I mean he must possess a very very and I cannot stress it enough very minute fraction of his overall strength. But even then, he still should be much stronger than even the Dragonborn. If Alduin is written to be such a beast, I feel as if the battle between the Dragonborn and Alduin should be a battle of false hope, in which a lone hero is not enough despite how powerful he may be. It took three with the power of Dragonrend and an Elderscroll to cast Alduin into a time rift, yet one man/woman to kill him. Feel free to disagree, I’m just talking out my ass.

      It's the Arisen's Bond.
      Wiki description:
The Arisen's Bond is a special ring received during the sidequest The Dragon's Tongue - it is magickally transformed from the Ancient Tablet in the presence of The Dragonforged.
Gifting the bond to another indicates that they are the one the Arisen holds most dear.
Gifting the ring instantly maximises the Affinity of any person to whom it is given. As an indication of love gifting it often results in the recipient responding in kind to their proposal.

Actually watched the anime series a few days ago after finishing the game three times since launch. Interesting how the ending of it is baaaaaaasically one of the "bad" endings of the game. :D I was kind of hoping in the last few episodes that it was sort of a prequel and that Ethan was just a renamed Edmun, and that the anime could have served as an immediate backstory to the game. Like, "maybe Olivia was Lenore too?" ... but well, guess you can't expect *that* sort of relevancy from an anime. Would have been a huge reveal though if all this time we found out that Ethan becomes Duke in the game.
