      @@chasx7062 Yes and no.
The Hiigarans and the Taidanni were always rivals; however, the Hiigarans found the 2nd Core and used it to defeat the Taidans.
The Galactic Council, alongside the Bentusi, would ask them to stop; however the Hiigarans would not stop and had most of their fleet destroyed in the fighting, allowing the Taidanni to recover and siege Higara.
While some called for the Higarans to be destroyed, they were instead exiled to Kharak, with the condition they'll never make hyperspace drives ever again.
That of course was broken 4000 years later by the Kushan, the descendants of the Higarans, who had no idea the deal had been in place to begin with.
So yes, the old Hiigarans did commit atrocities against the Taidanni-
But also no, as the people you play as, their descendants ( the Kushan and the Mothership of Kharak) did not know about the deal or their past.

I remember playing the demo (yeah, games had demos that took hours upon hours to download at the earliest of broadband speeds in the late 90's) of Homeworld. I didn't like Starcraft, I had played Command and Conquer but was a bit worn out of that too. So, I gave Homeworld demo a go. I played the demo like 5 times through, straight. I couldn't stop raving about it to my brother and my parents, how this little demo finally captured what a SPACE-based RTS should feel like, should play like. Two months before my 18th birthday, my brother dropped by with a wrapped present. I was like "... but, my birthday is in November?" and he simply said "Consider this an early present then."
Inside, still wrapped in the plastic shrinkwrap from the store, was Homeworld. Let's just say that for about a year and a half afterwards, I was replaying one game over and over and over whenever I got bored or tired of other games. The moment that the Remastered Collection was announced, I preordered it. Deserts of Kharak? Same thing. When the pre-order opens for Homeworld 3, I will be instantly pre-ordering that too.

My pet peeve is the initial push “Let’s go back to our home planet.” And they all agreed. It wouldn’t work like that realistically. Hiigara is not the home planet of current-generation Kushans, Kharak is. Why would the average person care about some distant ancestral home?
Sure, after Kharak is destroyed, they need a new home. And you can argue they can’t just settle for the first inhabitable planet, with the Taaidan on the hunt.
But before Kharak is destroyed, their motive for leaving is flimsy.

I never played this game, so I'm sure there is a lot of depth to it, but what I mostly admired was the Flight of the Navigator/Bladerunner type music design throughout. It really lent to the vibe and atmosphere (or lack there of, because space) of the game, adding to the sense of immersion in the vastness of space travel. Plus, the sound when hyperdrive engages is awesome. Cool story, too.

the sight and sound of my fleet emerging from Hyperspace still send chills down my spine. Ohhh, sweet memories...
However, seeing you destroying half the enemies is not as fun. I caught them all, aside from the smallest craft. Salvage corvettes captured anything above Frigate to avoid wasting resources.
Ohh... 1:31:15 is honey to my ears

I started over and over again till I was able to capture the first Taiidan carrier. I never built any capitol ships other than 4 support frigates. Later a game update moved the carrier deck guns right where the salvage corvettes latched on. I over came that by having repair corvettes paired with the salvage corvettes.

Eh, after they introduced capital class ships that became my first capture priority whenever the enemy had one. Especially Heavy cruisers and carrier

Imagine if the Kadesh and Kushan showed up at hiigara togather in an alternate version of events. kicked the shit out of the taiidan and then went on to curb stomp the beast later.

Glad to see this. Your old original Homeworld movie was the weakest particularly at the ending. You just had a montage and never played that part that said the emperor was there. It was just on space battle. I had seen that before so knew what was happening but others wouldn't have. The other 2 didn't have that problem and I'm glad to see you increased the length here. Glad you are doing this before 2022 and I'm shocked more Homeworld movies have not been made by other gamers. Keep it up.

Any chances for the 'Cataclysm/Emergence' to make it into movie as well?
I'm so curious of how you would use the POV function, especially during dogfights...

    • @Jijechka
      @Jijechka  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

It will be much worse. "Cataclysm" has an old interface and graphics. And I didn't find a way to hide the HUD. But maybe I'll think of something:)

When you said it that way, the more I wanted that 'Emergence' to be remasteted too... even though I know it won't happen.

“OK. So let’s make this clear. We were exiled by some powerful space-civilization, and we spent the last gazillion years on this desert planet.”
    “Right.”
“And you want us to build WHAT?”
    “A mothership.”
    “A what?”
“A mothership. You know, it’s like a camel, but bigger, and you can travel across the galaxy in it.”
    “The freaking GALAXY?”
    “Yeah.”
    “Why?”
    “Dunno. Better scenery I guess.”
    “Alright, let’s do it.”
    “You sure?”
    “Yeah, what the heck.”

You can REALLY see the adaptive difficulty at the end!! 30+ Assault Frigates, 15+ Destroyers, and who knows how many other ships as just the ESCORT FLEET to the "Rock Ship!" Makes the movie even more epic!!

1:42:32 The only way I beat this level was to attack one of the sphere of ion frigates using cloaked fighters at a time then lure it out of response range of the rest of the group. Then I capture it and use the resources to repeat the process. Fun Fact: The fleet of ion frigates drifted off the edge of the map so I couldn't lure them out.
