You make it look easy. Having experience and knowing what you are doing saved you 20 fails. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man!
Those pliers are like miniature blacksmith tongs! Cool.
Pretty cool plier idea for the vents.
Ha, thanks! Was getting so frustrated with the regular pliers, had to come up with something better.
Very interesting video. I like the modification you did to the small duck bill pliers!!
I always love these videos. There’s always something new I pick up. Great stuff Eric!
Nice. You know the golden rule, gate low vent high! Ever try silicone by Axson? Smart thinking reducing shore hardness on the core side of the mold. Also, ever try making the mold box using aluminum plate and an electric glue gun? You can then throw in an oven and cure much faster. I use special curved needle nose pliers to remove the vents, way easier. Awesome channel man!
Are there any downsides to accelerating the silicon curing like this?
thanks for the detailed videos
I love this channel. very succinct and informative.
good work! thanks for sharing
Another great video.. I have a revopoint 3d scanner I'm going to use to scan a damaged plastic handle/ capacitor cover for my vacuum pump. If that doesn't work I will do this.
Very impressive
This is fantastic. What options are there for paints, dyes, & post processing.
I have a video about that actually
Always love your molding and casting videos! How are you handling the screw bosses? Normally I will add metal dowels prior to pouring silicone to allow for easy tapping later on. But curious your process. Cheers 🍻
Just drill them out after casting
Video idea: Design some grips for that pair of pliers with the messed up grips
Hi
l want to know the materials and rams you use, but make a box like thais
Thanks for the video. I wonder if it's possible to use similar techniques to get electrically conductive parts, like an RF-shielding metal-ish enclosure. Doesn't necessarily have to be made of aluminum or brass. As an example, maybe it's possible to mix silicone with carbon.
Copper powder perhaps
I'm curious if the 3d print (I assume?) was over-sized to account for shrinkage of the resin? Were these copies required to be dimensionally accurate and fit with other parts?
Cool video. Did you lose any thickness due to the soft top half sagging a hair?
Eh, hard to say,....
Hello Eric,
I have never done mold making, but I have a part at work that might be much easier to make with a mold.
My question is do the silicone materials have different temperature capacity?
The material I would be casting is Insulcast over electronic parts. The Insulcast generates high temperatures to cure.
Yes check with the manufacturer to see the specifications, silicones have all kinds of different heat levels that they can take.
I am surprised by how many air vents you use in this example. What is your approach to figuring out how many air vents to use (and where to place them)? Just checking for areas where the air might not be able to escape and add a vent to each of those spots ?
Correct, high points
I'm a Vietnam Combat Marine and I purchased 4 EGA to mount on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. They are all rigid and I need to make a mold of them that I can put against the side of the truck to cast them with the proper curves to paste to the truck. I plan to paint the truck a gloss black including the EGA. I would welcome any suggestions you might have to help me. Thanks.
With every video I learn new stuff... after watching your first videos I did a bit of molding myself.
Btw...besides Alfred you also did a toilet paper magnetized holder, is it on sale? do you still get some money off of it?
Just a hired gun, for a client
after purring the resin , you didnt use pressure tank sir ?
Also very curious what a good choice of resin there is for a durable UV resistant part? I'm making a part for a motorcycle, that will live in the sun.
no bubbles 🤤🤤🤤🤤
May I recommend the "Engineer PZ-57"?
A very nice, high quality pair of pliers with round jaws.
Yes, those are nice, thanks for pointing those out. One thing that is needed is a very fine thickness at the tip so that I can slide it in the silicone with out damaging the silicone. I assume there had to be pliers out there with rounded jaws, I knew it!
You don’t put the mold in the vacuum chamber, after you put in the resin? I used to follow a casting group where various members either pressurized or vacuumed their casts, after they filled the mold…just an idea…l don’t cast very much, or often…
Nice video ..what glue do you use to glue the vent.. I've tried so many but nothing works
Super glue, canoacrylad
@@EricStrebel thanks!
do you also use a pressuretank to cure silicone ? (ive seen people using this to decrease the size of the remaining bubbles)
No, You do not want to compress the bubbles as they will expand once you let the pressure out of the tank
It's fairly common to pressurize a rigid casting PU during cure but not the silicone, which is degassed but not pressurized. The difference is that the stiff, rigid PU would keep the compressed bubbles in check after curing. Whereas the softer silicone would let them expand again throwing the dimensions of the mold out of spec.
The way you talked about using the smooth-on rubber makes it sound like you aren't a big fan of their stuff, any reason why?
Yeah, just not a high quality product like some of the other silicones that I use
@@EricStrebel I took a quick scroll and didn't see a video on the topic, could you name some brands that you like more? Are the differences in quality something that would matter on a hobby scale? I've always used smooth on just because it's what I was exposed to first.
I added a link to Silicone Inc in the description. Smooth on products have a good distribution system and are very easy to get.
Do you weigh the part to determine how much resin is needed for the molding process?
You could, I just guess when I mix the first batch, it's a fun game and good mental practice for me.
I really like what you do Sir!
Many advices!
Actually I have an issue that I can’t resolve : I have a polycarbonate mold and I would like to extract the positif of this mold by putting epoxy resin. But, polycarbonate andepoxy will « fusion » together and I don’t want to use gypsum, I will lost the shiny aspect.
How can U manage this ? I know I need to lubrificate the mold, but with what ?
Wax
@@EricStrebel Perfect! I will try it today :)
how much would you charge to make a whisper room its a reallyy small space i have so it wont be as much work i think
How do you get the CA off the master without damaging it?
The CA sticks to the tubes, so never a big issue
Peace be upon you
l want to know the materials and rams youn use, but make a box like this
Silicone
what is the name of resin
Is it PU resin ? Im so curious
Correct
first !
Awesome
