He did bat like .270 in AA ball..... that's impressive. Most people struggle to hit .270 in high school.... let alone college..... let alone AA ball
you're dang right!! ive been out of highschool for 12 years/ played varsity junior and senior year. i went to a batting cage a year ago and was completely lost on 70 mph pitches. i couldnt believe how horrible i was! i havent swung a bat since highschool aside from that experience. big ups to tebow 270 is absolutely amazing considering the circumstances.

End of the day, Tim Tebow made solid contact against some of the best baseball players in the world. He hit AAA pitching, even if it wasn’t consistent. That is INCREDIBLE for a guy in his 30s who played an entirely different sport most of his life. In fact, making the change from football to baseball is generally way harder because physical skills only get you so far in baseball when you need timing.
I don’t care if he didn’t make the show. He still did better than he had any right to.
That’s not the issue at hand. The issue is they wasted a roster spot on a guy they knew would never have an impact, all in the hopes that sales would go up. That spot that should have went an actual prospect who paid their dues and put in the work went to a some guy who just wanted to play baseball. He also didn’t make “solid contact” against pro arms. His strikeout rates and swing and miss rates are akin to a freshman in high school. So he basically wasted a roster spot for some years then bounced. Something to definitely be proud of 😂

He had K rate north of 35%, a whiff rate over 40%, and was the worst defensive liability on the roster at the time. He literally statistically brought zero value at any minor level he played at. If their goal was an uptick in merch sales, that failed miserably as well. So no, he had no value at all both on and off the field. You know good and well no team on the planet would sign a 29 year old who runs a 6.9 60 yard dash throwing 85 mph from the outfield who can only pull the ball for power. Thats a textbook publicity stunt.
Potential doesn't beat right now. Players hang around way longer and play way worse. Potential is met less than 2% of the time.

I've always been a Tim Tebow fan. I've worn his jerseys to work on NFL day only to hear snide comments from almost everyone.
I feel like he wasn't given a chance to fail in the NFL...
But simply cut because of his unorthodox style and footwork.
I know his completion percentage was low, but he played big on the biggest games.
I also hated to hear the amount of venom that people threw his way because he "Dared" to try and make a go at baseball.
Like the very idea was offensive.
He is a gentleman,
A role model,
A sincere Christian
And someone who doesn't quit in the face of criticism.
And I don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about him personally.

Great guy, great leader , great character but unfortunately not an NFL Qb. He just wasn’t. There are many outstanding college QB’s whose games don’t translate to the NFL, it happens.
I'll say what I've always said to anybody who found fault with Tim Tebow. He never had a chance to fail in the NFL. He had that postseason with Denver where he went one-on-one. Same record as Jay Cutler, and a whole lot of other quarterbacks who came and went. After that, he was cut from the team and could never latch on anywhere else. I believe organizations didn't like his overtly Christian stance. But again, he never had the opportunity to fail. Off the top of my head I think his NFL record was like 7 and 4 with a 1 and 1 record in the playoffs.

@@richalvarez1211 Your entitled to your opinion, however myself and the rest of the NFL disagree. If he had any potential as an NFL QB, why would every NFL team pass on him or end up releasing him? Some grand conspiracy? It is because they could tell from film and in person, he was not a reliable thrower of the football. The NFL is a business and coaches will play anybody that they think can help them win. And for all his faults (and there are many) Jay Cutler could throw circles around Tebow.
I can't prove what never happened, but I feel that despite his limitations throwing or whatever it was the rest of the league saw and didn't like...that Tim was a true leader and a field general. Someone who played bigger than his abilities and could somehow inspire and will his team to a win. I'm thinking Jim McMahon for instance. But like I said, it never happened so I'm not going to argue the point any further. If he had played further into his career and stunk up the field, I would be the first to say, "well that didn't work. I guess I was wrong".
Tebow actually held his own in AA (.734 OPS). Couldn't say the same for MJ (.556 OPS).
Jordan improved significantly in the Arizona Fall League that year before returning to basketball. If he had as much time at baseball as Tebow did when he got to AA I'd bet he would have done better. That's not to knock Tebow, he was a solid AA player.
Jordan started off hot at AA but the league caught up to him, but it's still really impressive he could even compete
By the time MJ got to AAA he had made a lot of progress in Baseball
That was one year, his overall OPS was .638 which for the minors is not good. Yes better than MJ, but that is a pretty low bar. Both got a chance for their names not their skills.

Tim Teabow came into my restaurant and checked in under another name, no clue it was him. Sat him right in the middle of the restaurant, perfect spot for everyone to bother him. Felt bad, he was very nice and asked for a massive plate of bacon. So I brought him a plate with a whole pound of bacon on it.
Jacksonville did give him a chance. He sold thousands of season tickets and was cut early people down here got pissed. Then the video of Urban Meyer being a creep came out bothe were gone and the world forgot. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Why were people pissed he got cut? Was it because it was at best a publicity stunt or because they didn't see it how bad Tebow was as a TE?
He played in my city, Columbia SC. Didn't watch him play but they still hand up his jersey in the merch shop.

Kirk Gibson was NL MVP. and a 1st Team All-American WR at MSU, 21 YPC Career (#11 NCAA + #1 Big 10 all time) and at 6'3 225 every team clocked him under a 4.3 40 at his Pro Day. Only played 1 yr of NCAA baseball as leverage to negotiate his NFL contract after FB coach suggested it since he was a potential top 5 NFL Draft pick. Yet he played so well he used the threat of playing in the NFL to negotiate the richest contract of the MLB Draft.
Also had the 2 most epic World Series HRs but is NEVER mentioned on great dual sports athlete lists.
Only 3 yrs played over 132 games due to injuries: #1, #6, #18 in MVP voting those yrs.; in 118 games had 34 SB/ 28 HRs in 1989. In 89 games had 28 SBs in 1990 at 33.

MJ’s little sojourn into baseball was more of a suspension that wasn’t called a suspension.
He would’ve made the MLB roster for the Mets in May 2021 with all the injuries the team went through. Was so close to being a great story.
"Beloved by Gators fans" is an understatement. The man was literally one of the greatest college football players of all time- top three easily. He dominated the game. And I was a UGA fan at the time I hated his guts lol but it's true.
He got screwed at the Jets. He had good seasons at Denver even if people want to nitpick his stats. When you add the two partial seasons together his numbers were not bad and the onky really bad stat line was sacks taken.
Having said that when he was on the field he was electric. And make no mistake in that mile high magic season, HE won those games. He was a clutch player and a winner. And I've seen many many NFL QBs not half as good or half as exciting as him get more chances than him. He should have been under center somewhere. And then to get sent to the sleazy af Jets with a literal dumpster fire of a QB, and put in the 3rd stringer over Tebow? What a joke. I have no doubt they blackballed him.
I felt for QBs who had Tebow come in as a backup.. everyone loves him and it always develops into this pressure to bench the starter.. but maybe there is a reason for that.

I used to attend New Hampshire Fisher Cat games fairly regularly, at least a handful of games every season. The attendance was usually good, not great. Maybe the stadium would be at 25-35% capacity during the week and at 40-60% capacity on Fridays and the weekends. They started advertising weeks in advance for the series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, saying something to the effect of "See the Fisher Cats take on Tim Tebow and the Rumble Ponies"... Which was kind of funny because they didn't give any other team that treatment. They didn't even promote games more than a couple series in advance. My fiance and I said we should go, and I scored some tickets, and it ended up being a double header. That was the most packed I'd ever seen Delta Dental Stadium to this day, and it was packed for both games. I wouldn't be surprised if they overbooked. It was like Tebow Mania. Fun to watch. Fun fact, that was when Vladdy Jr, Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Lourdes Gurriel were playing together in AA.
I saw video of Tebow taking batting practice just after he announced his move to baseball. His bat speed was unbelievably slow. At that point I couldn't take his baseball career seriously anymore. It is a testament to his work ethic that he actually made it as far as he did.

I have never seen anyone get heckled during a AAA baseball game until I watched Tebow play LF. It was hilarious.
I remember watching Tebow play for the ponies when I was a little kid. Binghamton was kinda a dumpy town but the Ponies/Bee Mets were fun to watch and they have a pretty nice stadium. Tebow may not have been the best at baseball, but he certainly played hard. And in the end, that’s all you can really ask for.
The fact he won the heisman still blows my mind.
I saw him play at the A level. His swing was actually quite compact in a direct path through the strike zone. It was a good cut. When I saw his swings, he looked LIKE he could hit. But his pitch regognition and tardiness often found him late and fouling pitches off . instead of pulling the ball with a more dedicated swing. He simply didn't have enough time to develop muscle memory. Had he been playing somewhere. . anywhere. . I think he might have made a bigger impact. Hitting a round ball with a round bat squarely is THE hardest thing to do in sport. Yet, he managed some success. A testament to his work ethic and determination. And he DID draw crowds. There wasn't a minor league GM anywhere who didn't want Tebow's teams in the house. He sold tickets.
I really wish Tebow could’ve been successful in either league. To see one of my favorite athletes ever never actually pan out to something athletically hurts

I remember I visited my aunt in Pennsylvania and we were really close to Binghamton at the time the RumblePonys were playing and had Tim Tebow. I asked my aunt if we could see Tebow play and she was going to take me to see him but then he broke his wrist and I was screwed out of seeing him play 😢

I counted a string of 28 consecutive plays, where his wildcat Assignment was to run the ball.

Look up the stats. I believe it was one pass thrown by Tebow from the wildcat formation.

I'll always love Tim Tebow for the Christianity he spread and the athletic ability he had lifting everyone around him up including Aaron Hernandez, this guy plays hard and parties harder. Thanks Tim Tebow.
Both Tebow and MJ making it to the MLB was a huge stretch. I played HS baseball. I am the same age as MJ. Had almost identical baseball stats as MJ - good but nothing that attracted any attention (and had plenty of scouts at my games due to the fact that a team mate of mine was a 7th round draft pick). The only reason, especially at their ages at the time, either of these two got the opportunity was their celebrity status. Tebow brought attention to the Mets farm system. MJ brought attention to the White Sox farm system. Both worked hard. Both tried their best, but they took away opportunities from legitimate prospects. The Mets and White Sox both did it for the money and publicity.
Athleticism and genetics can get you a lot of places in football/basketball but skipping one year in baseball past 10 years-old really changes a player’s trajectory. Players like Lawrence Taylor and Hakeem Olajuwon didn’t play organized football or basketball until they were 14 (tons of others started later). The genetic lottery opens a lot fewer doors in baseball…you need to be a true locksmith to get into that house. You don’t hear about players becoming baseball prodigies in their teens.
I will say that hitting .500 in Fla HS baseball is no joke.

I like Tebow, I really do but he gets scrutiny because he was not a legitimate NFL QB and the hype around him was not warranted based on his level of play. In baseball he was barely a minor league player and would have never gotten the chance if not for his name. Teams don’t sign 28 years old guys to the minor leagues without another reason, like ticket sales.

Yea.....I think you're right.....in the end I do look back now and view Tebow in a softer light. I used to find him and the coverage of him so incredibly annoying but ya know.......theres a lot worse people out there. All the man did was pursue his dream as hard as he could no matter what other people said. If anything it actually makes me wonder if he chose baseball to begin with and had those 11 years back maybe he makes it? Some of those stretches mentioned in the video are statistically respectable and that in and of itself is amazing playing the hardest sport after a decade off, theres at least a sprinkle of real talent in there to go hit Double A pitching to a .273 average with a .734 OPS......I mean thats really not bad at all. Granted, usually the guys who are actually gonna be good hit .320 with an OPS in tbe 8s or 9s but still double-a is actually where a lot of the best prospects are stashed at its no joke.

Great video. I always liked Tim Tebow, a real stand up guy and great athlete. Too bad his skill set that made him one of the greatest college football players of all time did not translate to the NFL or MLB.
I just wonder why quarterbacks who enjoyed playing baseball don’t consider turning to relief pitching. They would pitch to a minimum of three batters and don’t need to be absolute world beaters for several innings. With the developed arm strength they have, one would think it could be a doable option, with stints in the minors of course.
Especially considering Tebow is a lefty, the handedness of those pitchers seem to have longevity in the league, even if they’re mediocre.

Based on his stats in the minors in his 30’s he probably could’ve made it to the show if he focued on Baseball and never played in the NFL. Impressive athlete regardless
