Wanna talk about the F40 driver? Driving that thing is really really difficult. No electronics and huge lag. It's definitely a widowmaker.

@@marcobrancorsini2479 the f40 have electronics or it wouldn't be moving. It's also a race car so the way it handles is normal the power advantage and price advantage it have over all the other cars is very big comparison. That f40 faster than many cars today day

I miss Best Motoring 😢. With all of the car shows on TH-cam, nothing has come even close to their format (5 lap shoot-out, etc.). Someone needs to figure this out...

It must take a hell of a budget to get 5 professional pilots, a closed race track and 5 sick cars to test at their 100% and do it periodically.
@@ernodios That's the issue. Motoring journalists like myself would love to do this but there's the cost, getting manufacturers to sign off on it, insurance, finding and booking talented drivers, booking a circuit that would allow it, paying the camera crew etc. Much easier to arrange a drag race or do solo lap times.
@@ATribeCalledCars Maybe it was cheaper to do back then than today. BM was certaintly allot better in the 90s than today in my opinion. These cars are all classics now.
They're all amazing cars, but the F40 is on another level.
Perhaps, but the Ruf CTR was the fastest straight ahead. A proven 211mph(340km/h) in July 1987 isn't to scoff at. It's also worth nothing that while different iterations of the Porsche 911 won the 24 Hours of LeMans (1979), the Daytona 24 hours (1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983) the 12 hours of Sebring (1973, 1976-1984, yes 9 years straight), the Targa Florio (1973), the Paris-Dakar Rally (1984) - the F40 never won anything in racing except for two races in the BPR GT series 1995-1996 (an event the McLaren F1 dominated, also being a car that won the 24 Hours of LeMans outright in 1995).
Another level? The specs perhaps. It was a road legal race car but at core was just a heavily modified 308.
Sorry, but objective racing success in a wide set of famous endurance, rally and road races events kind of trumps subjective opinion.
As for "another level". The lap times these drivers here manage certainly don't indicate anything like "another level". Were you actually *watching* the video??
James Shunt if F40 is a moded 308 , then the CTR is a moded 911 from scratch under Ruf ONLY and not even 50were produced .. porsche had absolute nothing to do with a the Ruf so yeah..Ruf is not under porsches ownership...F40 is the king of the 80s and Mass production sports cars and it's rivals was the 959 and the Lambo Countach...
Oh, don't pretend that you are pro stock race driver, you look funny! As for F40 did you know that it had LM and Competizione versions with max top speed of 228 mph (367 km/h).
So it is comparable to Porsche. And in what way RUF concerns the Porsche? They are just using their cars, it is something like HKS or Mugen. Furthermore CTR tend to overseer too much, it can go only in a straight line on Autobann. The Ferrari is another story because it took part in IMSA and BPR Global GT Series, so it CAN turn!

The gtr has the most potential being turbo awd, a high boost remap would turn the results around real quick because they were limited to 280hp due to government regulations, now put the r34 gtr z tune with 500hp and it will make swiss cheese of these

Ended up being thoroughly impressed with the MR2

yeah the rx-7 driver seemed to just lose all stamina after lap 2, he went from holding the CTR off to falling back, id say on lap one he could have overtaken the mr2 but held back , but by lap 3 he was just. nnoo

Those early FD's had a bit of an issue where the air intake sucked all the air away from the intercooler, I'd say that he was losing power with each lap as the intake air got hotter and hotter.

Funny story, I brought a TV and the VHS to the local race meeting so the guys would watch it, nobody raced that night they where all glued to tv as none of them knew what BM was and they where blown away with the vid!
I still have my collection of these and drift tengoku on vhs ..lol but no vhs player

What a let down from the NSX on the other hand...
It was drivers fault. The NSX had plenty of opportunities to overtake. It's still faster than both the gtr and rx7 on most laps and in quarter mile
what are you expecting F40 is like 10x the price of most of these cars XD, by today standards thats like putting a GT86 against a ferrari 488 pista.

There was a video on youtube where the nsr-r was *literally* dancing right behind the f40's bumper on every corner on tsukuba. Granted, the nsx-r driver was pushing himself and the car at 100%(he overreved at one point during a downshift) and it took till lap 4 for the f40 driver (tsuchiya) to go 100%. Unfortunately, at the same time the f40 got serious the nsx-r made a final overtake attempt (this was where he overreved the engine) he had the inside line but the downshift caused him to drift the whole corner. The nsx-r vs f40 battle was over at this point cuz f40 was gone on the straight. It was an intense battle.

とくにヘアピンで、MR2がF40に抜かれるところの速度差があまりにもありすぎて驚愕した。
MR2担当ドライバー粕谷さんの「風が通り過ぎた」という表現が、まさにピッタリだった。

Clutch Kick I don't think it was that the MR2 is faster, rather that the driver was much better. you also have to look at the track they are racing on and how it's a benefit for a small car like the MR2...it held it's own for a lap or two but the speed output difference was too much in the end. I think the nsx just got stuck behind faster cars and decent competition
Clutch Kick that looks like the. Base nsx with the long ratio 5 transmission and super soft suspension with crappy tires. Honda later fixed all those things.

I didn't watch the Best Motoring Series, in 1992, when I was a child. I actually saw the Ferrari. God, the battle rages on for non- stop action in Tsukuba, at it's best of the time.

What we learnt from this video is as follows. The F40 is an animal and so much quicker thank anything back then. The 911 driver can’t drive for shit as he could hardly get past the mr2. The 512 is solid on the track as it’s not designed to be a track car. The NSX is so nowhere that it’s just laughable. The MR2 is punching well above it’s weight and the GTR is a gtr and did what we all expected. Got off to the best start due to awd and slowly went backwards.
martinsimek I was going to say the same thing. The guy driving the 911 has no idea how to drive a Porsche. He should have been way further out on the rest of them then he actually was.

I had an MR2 GT sw20 turbo and I was really surprised the GT-R overtook it before the first corner. Either the GT-R got an insane launch or the MR2 got a bad one or both. Those things are crazy in 1st and 2nd gear. On a good dry road they launch super hard.
Impressed with how the MR2 held up in this company. It clearly had higher cornering speed than the CTR despite narrower tires.
Well wide tires might give you traction, but you also need more power to spin them...

They say the Japanese performance cars lacked the passion and soul of the European supercars but now, today, I think they're the grandpas that continue to punch harder than anyone expected. They have soul and the stories to tell. I can bet they'll be putting up a fight for years to come.
You can probably buy 20 rx 7 for the price of the f50 so thats why it now sits in a garage

F40ってクラッチ激重、ハンドリングもシビアって聞くけど、実際運転したらどんな感じなんやろなぁ。清水さんの乗りやすいってコメントが意外。
そりゃプロドライバーはレーシングカー相手に四苦八苦してるからね。レーシングカーに比べたら公道を走る車はどれだけ高性能でもぬるく感じてしまうかも。

I just love these guys racing. It's like Gran Turismo or Forza in real life. Racing totally different types of cars against each other you often don't expect would be able to compete and make an awesome race out of it. F40 smoked the competition though :)
