A couple important points regarding selling comics on IG:
Instagram is not primarily a selling platform. It’s a social media platform. You will be a lot more successful selling comics on IG if you’re social about it. If you want to remain anonymous and only sell comics with little interaction with people, eBay is the main platform for that. I have to say from experience, it is much more rewarding and fun selling comics to friends on IG rather than remaining anonymous like on eBay. The whole vibe is different. As long as you’re an honest person and sell comics with integrity, the social aspect of selling on IG will only enhance your sales. If you’re trying to be shady, or oversell books you won’t do well and frankly you’re a piece of garbage.
Post content
So the first thing you’re going to want to do is post some content, because in the next steps we’re going to get some followers and you’ll look like a weirdo if you don’t have any content posted on your page. Take some photos of your favorite books and write something engaging in the caption section.
Proper use of hashtags
Hashtags are what lets IG know who it should show your posts to. IG currently allows up to 30 hashtags and you should use as close to 30 as you can while keeping them relevant to your post. It’s extremely important to keep them relevant to your post and you want to avoid using the same hashtags for every single post. I recommend creating several different groups of hashtags available in a note on your phone each group being about 15-20 hashtags. Start by entering new totally unique hashtags to your post and then copy and past some of the generic groups
Grow your following
One awesome thing about IG is it’s easy to get new followers even when you’re starting from 0 and you don’t have to get the ball rolling with current friends and family, you can have a completely separate comic IG from scratch. Start by following trusted sellers and your favorite TH-camrs, follow some of their followers, comment on their posts and most of them will follow you back. Remember to be sincere and engage with people that’s the key. Here’s an example of how to get followers: go to my IG page, click on my followers list, click on anyone and see if they post things you like and if they are someone you want to have as a follower,if they are, heart and comment on all the posts you actually like and have something to say about.
Selling comics/claim sales
I’ve actually found that posting individual comics for sale on IG is kind of ineffective. The formula I’ve found to be the most effective is using posts and stories to engage with people and grow the following and then having claim sales or live sales to sell comics.
Buying comics on IG:
I’ve never had a problem buying comics on IG. If you use paypal goods and services you have some protection there but I’ve never had a problem. One method I’ve used many times is finding a comic I want on eBay and then looking them up on IG. Usually they are willing to lower the price to avoid eBay fees. I think a fair way to do this is to split the savings. For example, if it’s a $100 book, they will save at least $10 by not using eBay so ask them to lower the price to $95.

Have your shipping supplies organized and prepared before you sell. I have found this reduces the time I spend when selling on eBay. If you are selling slabbed comics and potential multiple slabs to one person, you can fit two or three well protected slabs into a medium flat rate postal box.

Facebook just recently kicked me off - I was hacked and no under review- I was easily able to sell comics and had a great relationship with others in the community. Now I have to start another app. This sounds like starting over. ☹️
I am now organizing my comic, collection, I have about 7-8 long comic boxes full. I have been selling collectible action figures on ebay and mercari. It never dawned on me to consider using instragram. But, the idea of having to get followers, is not something i'd look forward to doing.

Great tips man. I’ve definitely followed pretty much all of these and it’s been great over on IG. I’d say the only thing that doesn’t hurt to gain a little more followers, especially when you’re starting out is through giveaways. I’m surprised you didn’t talk about this considering you’re one of the most generous within the community. I remember finding your page through a giveaway and I’ve been hooked ever since!

I just started TH-cam and Instagram this week, made my first two horrible reveal videos, of cgc and a psa. lol... one thing before I keep going, should I start over not using my own name on TH-cam? And think of a cool channel? Name... also should the name be a LLC? I’m thinking about getting the resellers tax Id. Any info would be awesome
It’s always good to begin with the end in mind. Where do you want to be in 5 years with it? Work back from there. What did people you’re emulating do? You don’t have to start over you can simply change the name. And yes the first dozen videos will be pretty awful, that’s all part of it!

Very well done! Long time collector just recently joined IG. Opened up whole new avenues. Able to trade for a couple of silver age keys that I otherwise would not have the purchased from a eBay.
Still trying to master the hashtag thing! Fortunately no one is judgmental so far on IG.
