    How to setup A119 V3 Dashcam settings for general use. This initial Firmware version includes many useful and surprising features. My tests confirm the new 12 second buffered Parking Auto Event Detection and Time Lapse 1/3/5/10fps and Low Bitrate Recording Modes all work perfectly with Power Bank. Looking to purchase either the A119 V2 or the A119 V3. I was really sold on the V2, but then I stumbled upon the V3 and from what I've seen so far, recording video quality is much improved over the V2. Should I spend the extra and get the V3 instead? I can get it with GPS and CPL filter. Parking Mode with a power bank I plan on frequently using.

    Great review.
    With the A119 V3, if your driving for a long time the screen will turn off....do you know if it's still recording?
    When I touch the button to turn the screen back on it shows a recording time of between 1min to 3 min, even if I've been driving for hours.
    Thanks

    • @wnhustace
      @wnhustace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should continue recording. Mine does the same. The 1-3min timestamp may be due to the 'loop recording' setting displayed in this video- the dash cam records a series of short videos (1-2-3 min based on setting chosen) to shorten file size of videos. There shouldn't be any missed audio/video between clips. If you want a large, single file for each drive, I would guess you can turn that setting off. But haven't tested it.
      You can test that your cam is recording very quickly- just remove your microSD card when the ignition and unit is off, then check the files under the DCIM folder. Should be a series of chronological videos, 1-3 min in length the whole time the dashcam was on.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The LCD screen should NOT be left on continuously due to its distraction. All VIOFO Dashcams show a red LED light indicating its recording. No need to press any buttons since that can stop recording or bring up the Menu while driving. The microSD memory card will save looped clips with zero gaps when played back or assembled in longer videos for TH-cam...
      BTW depending on your region COPs can ticket you for distracted driving if you touch Dashcam while driving.
      My Dashcam Screen Saver setting = 1min
      My Loop Recording = 1min for 4K / 2min for 2K / 3min for 1080p video resolution footage.

    • @bchobbyist

      All Dashcams include the Screensaver setting ranging from 15 seconds to 3 mins. Leaving the Dashcam LCD on continuously is too distracting and not wise, it also creates additional heat and draws more power.

      The A129 already has Buffered recording when Viofo Beta firmware v1.80 is loaded, once testing is complete it will appear on Viofo's firmware page. Buffered feature only works when Parking Auto Event Detection Mode is selected. Viofo should have included the Buffered feature when A129 Duo was originally released. @@MinecraftGuy237 There is no reason to touch the Dashcam before turning off your vehicle. All Dashcams work that way. It will finish recording the last clip running from built-in supercapacitors power (1-5 secs). FYI - if you did power off the Dashcam manually before turning off vehicle it usually doesn't turn on automatically when you start another drive, you'd have to manually turn it back on which is troublesome.

      To view videos or photos on A119V3 Dashcam LCD screen = press REC to stop recording > press middle-red-triangle Emergency snapshot button > use REC or MIC to select Video or Photo files > press middle-red-triangle to view Playlist > select clip then press middle-red button to Play > press MENU to go back (bottom 3 buttons match the icon screen functions) More details here > viofo-a119-v3-dash-camera-review.blogspot.com/
      Plan to create A119 V3 playback feature video.

    Whenever I connect the dashcam to the computer I get a picture of the usb cable on the screen, what does that mean?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The USB symbol/message indicates Dashcam is in Data Transfer mode same as USB Memory Stick. To power on Dashcam outside vehicle suggest using 5 volt Power Bank or 5 volt USB cellphone charger. Computer USB 1.0/2.0 port usually doesn't supply enough volts or Amps to properly start dashcams.

    Question I just purchased this camera and I noticed it doesn’t record at night?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Dashcams with Parking Mode feature enabled require continuous power after vehicle is off. Some cams have specific wiring requirements and will drain vehicle battery greatly if installed incorrectly.

      @@Arnolschuachenegga Stereo/radio circuit gets zero power when ignition is off thus cannot supply power for Parking Mode. Try the ACC or dome light fuse, consult vehicle manual for always on power circuit.

      BC Hobbyist yeah I did use the ACC fuse which I though supplied constant power while the car is off but maybe that’s not the case for my car I will look at some fuse diagrams thanks!

    Is it possible to write only if it detects movement. ???

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main function of Dashcams is to record continuously while driving. There is also a Parking Mode feature which requires continuous power when vehicle is off. Most common Dashcam setup is to select Loop Recording for 2-3mins and if powered by Hardwire kit directly to vehicle fuse box allows Parking Mode option of Auto Parking Mode which only records motion or vibration trigger event.
      There is however an very old setting which was used before 2016 named Motion detection which was the original Parking Mode, it isn't used much anymore. Suggest using 64 - 128 GB microSD memory card to save more normal continuous video capture footage clips.

    why would you take 1440p@30fps over 1080p@60fps?

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      much better fine detail at double the resolution using 1440p instead of 1080p, its much more obvious comparing clarity between 1440p (2K) vs 2160p (4K) for the same reason. Higher resolution always beats lower resolution even at 1080p 120fps.

      @matthewmckenzie7687 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are transcoding for 20x playback of long trips it does not matter. 1080 is better if fitting to size is going on anyway since you should always be scaling to a multiple or cropping to match pixels. 1440 will divide well to fit into 720.

      Sorry you got a defective product. Smoke is not good, when you get another do the tamberine test (shake slightly to detect lose part). Powering on with more than 5 volts will fry any VIOFO camera. Some other brands use 12 volts.

    • @bchobbyist
      @bchobbyist  ปีที่แล้ว

      VIOFO A119 & A129 series Dashcams all use the same standard USB to mini-USB cable.
      VIOFO A139 and newer models all use USB to Type-C cable.
