In this video I restored an old Torque Wrench and also gave it some modifications.
Age: - I guess it´s age to 50-60 years
Restoring time: - around 3 weeks
Facts: This Torque Wrench was working even before the restoration, because the condition didnt effect the function. I replaced the welding between base plate and main shaft with screws, because I didnt want to weld the stainless steel.
Techniques/materials: I used several techniques here: nickle plating, cold bluing, sand blasting and laser engraving.
I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!

18:36 Oh my god, I also used this clear coat, how fun. it works so well. 👍🏽
It has been a while since I have wstched one of your videos!! Amazing job restoring this beauty! These videos get more satisfying with every new video :) I think my father has one of these from Soviet Bulgaria- i remember it clearly.
Love the use of the milling machine!
Another great video, as always, cheers! 😀
(i changed my profile, its me Marti :)
Why didn’t make a calibration? Changing thickness and crystal lattice of metal after tempering… Is it a ruining of an instrument?(((
You really should get it calibrated. I repaired these for years and you disassembling it changed a lot of specs. Don’t trust it until then. But it looks nice as a paperweight until then.
Heating would change the metal
I calibrated it for him about a month ago.
It would be interesting to compare the readings in the original and after restoration when switching to fastening from welding to screws.
Given the reduction in thickness, I'd expect an increase in indicated torque for a given actual torque due to the reduction in resistance to bending. Also, I'd expect the heating to have an effect as well.
Smoothing the edges like a mad lad.
Outstanding restoration. Love the nickel plating and attention to detail. Laser etching of logo a nice touch. Brilliant stuff.
Thanks! Iam glad you like it!
Man, it's fun watching this channel. Just binge-watching, good stuff
Great restoration, as always. Don't want to be that guy, but would like to see a calibration to see how much of an effect removing that material had on the accuracy of the piece. Looks lovely though, my dad had one similar.
Good job! Great video, keep it up. What a master! Thank you for your great work. It turned out great! And I like heat plating, I rarely see such technique. screws I usually dip them in and take them out.
Thank you! Prefer
Thank you so much! Iam glad you enjoyed!

Mr P ✌️
Everyday is a beginning. Take a deep breath and start again.
My dad had one of these when I was a kid, and it's mine now. They're a terrible pain to use, the click type are much easier to deal with. But I hang on to mine for sentimental reasons. I wish it looked as nice as yours!
I learned something by watching! kpm means "kilopondmetre" and is from a defunct metric-derived system that took "standard" gravity into account, so 1 kpm is about 9.806 Nm.
This is such a great video. Lovely repair & restoration, great storytelling, and awesome videography. Well done, Mr. P.
Thanks again Vickie! 🙂
Well, but I was waitnting to see it working in the final of the video
OW Mr Patina, you've done it again. 😊😅🫡
it's so much better, congratulations 🥰
Mutig! Grüner Loctite. Das bekommst du nie wieder auseinander. Schlimmer ist nur noch die rote Schraubensicherung.
Ich hätte wohl die Blaue genommen. Reicht in fast allen Fällen völlig aus. Hier mit Sicherheit ebenfalls.
Ansonsten: Erstklassige Arbeit. Es ist immer eine wahre Freude, dir und deinem Hang zur Perfektion zuzusehen.
I learned something new. The kilopondmeter is the same thing as a Newton-meter.
Nice and simple redesign. Excellent execution. And as always, attention to detail. Well done Sir 👏
Thanks!
I have never heard of such a thing, but I enjoy watching and learning
It would be great to see this wrench compared to a modern torque wrench.. great video, loved it 🎉
Unpopular opinion: Deflecting-beam torque wrenches are my favorite type. I'm good with dial-indicated wrenches, but I don't trust the ratcheting type.
Wow, I must be old. I have one of those "antiques" in my toolbox. But yours is prettier than mine. Great job!!
Thanks!
That laser is slick! pew! pew!
Absolutely beautiful restoration. It looks better than brand new now. ~Kevin
Looks great as all your restorations. Drilling the stainless steel may go better with a Cobalt drill. I have worked with stainless steel some and have found either carbide or cobalt works best. It’s the Nickel in the stainless steel that makes cutting difficult.
Would love that in my toolchest.
Ur work is great I watched all the restoration projects what u have posted.... U not only u turn the things much better than they used to be when new❤
Give up worrying about what others think of you. What they think isn’t important. What is important is how you feel about yourself.
My neighbour gave me one of these. Seems about the same age but in much better condition. I haven't tested it yet to see its accuracy.
The only way to do great work is to love what you do.
Love your videos they are awesome my cat tinkerbell enjoys watching with me he had some cuddles while watching lol
😅😅
Would like to see a calibration test to see if it is still within specks.
I can't torque enough about your skill level....................👍
Beatiful 👍🏼💯💯
Good job👍. Greetings from Bremen 👋
Danke, Grüße aus Frankfurt ✌️
You sure know how to make a guy feel old. I have one of those in my toolbox.😂
Let’s say…old beauty with Kind signs of age 😅
The scale look so beautiful🔥🔥
Brilliant Work as always
Thanks!
Beautiful 😊😊😊. Thanks Mr. Patina 🙏🙏🙏. 😎
Very nice !
Still have one in my tool box
Tell yourself everyday: I'm really good.
Theseus? Is that you? 😂
You remade all the parts. How's that a restoration? 😅
All jokes aside, solid effort mate. Looks great
I have one of those. Bought it around 1970 to torque my Morris Minor's engine........ I don't think it was very accurate but it was cheap....
Lovely restoration
Very excellent restoration, you have equipment and an attractive personality. I am trying to imitate this theme ❤❤
Yes! A sandblast after the cast cleanup. Bugs me when others don't do this. Noice
🥳🥳
I still use one very similar to this granted it not quite this old but same basic thing
A dirty piece of scrap transformed into a shiny piece
finally something like manual processing has appeared. More like this, not everyone has lathes or drilling machines.
Absolutely beautiful restoration,,,,
Thanks bud ✌️
Now you have to make a case to put it in to keep it from getting damaged... Thumbs Up!
Great restoration
Always enjoy your videos. For some reason, this one was the most satisfying that I have watched so far. 😺😺 Keep the great restorations coming.
You have great aesthetics. Cool job.
bonjour trée belle restoration vous êtes le mayeurs
I love your videos. This came out so perfect. The scale is so clear and easy to read.
Amazing patience and attention to detail.
These are always so relaxing for me. Thank you.
I love your work Mr P.
It’s such a pleasure to see your evolution!! Lovely restoration, and well done on the video editing as well!! 💫
Great job restoring the torque-wrench. Would rather use a deflecting beam type such as this but my clock dial version over a click type or digital unit. Pretty much never need calibrating and are just more pleasant to use and they are just old school cool.
I was just gonna say, wouldn't it need to be recalibrated after this restoration? He removes a lot of material, surely that affects the measurement? Maybe precision is not what he was going for here 😊
It might affect the reading a tiny bit but wouldnt have thought by a huge amount. It was sanding and polishing after all. Be interesting to see how it performs on a torque wrench tester all the same.
@TheBotze i agree! Regarding to the indicator it’s pretty well reassembled, but who knows if it’s accurate, and who knows if it ever was. Didn’t compare it to a modern one, it’s a display piece now 🙂
@matui6983 agree ✌️
Hope theres still a chance of a Mitchell reel restoration in the channels future. 👍
I have this exact torque wrench in it's original box.
I'm guessing it is around 50 years old. The wrench still looks brand new.
Looks great at the end. I definitely would have loved to see a comparison at the end between a known accurate torque wrench and this one, just showing "hey the bar moves" doesn't really mean it actually works and shows the correct torque.
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Absolutely stunning!
This is gona sound dumb. Thank you for teaching me language of craftsman. You are as I am writing this. filling a piece of the rod. After you used a drill to make it flat.
You mentioned the word base plate that I have no use for. I never fix anything around the home unless I am helping others. You ar mentioning the word bed. It of course means the bottom.
THANKS...
I'm just going to think of this as an art project, a sculpture based on an old torque wrench. It's beautiful work but it was never a very accurate tool and now it may be even worse. Of course, maybe it's better but my advice is don't use it. The new, affordable little electronic torque adapters for breaker bars are excellent and very accurate.
Very nice! The metal work turned out great and the wood handle is perfect!
Definitely read torture wrench 😂😭
Fantástico, brother! Fine touch and awesome result.
Love your work. You have a great eye and plenty of talent.
Another great restoration! I really like the new handle on this one. Logo looks great!
I relate to wanting a "connection that is screwable" 😁
I like your work, so this is me leaving a comment. 😊
Thanks a lot 🙂
Cómo usual y costumbre... una delicada y deliciosa restauración. La prueba final me hubiera encantado ver trabajar este torquímetro mecánico VS un digital, y con ello comprobar que está bien calibrado y en operación técnica y mecánica confiable. 😊
Fantastic, amazing skills
Il consueto lavoro magistrale. 👋👋
beautiful work as always! Great choice of wood for the handle, that was a gorgeous piece of walnut!
I guess to really fully restore it you could've recalibrate the torque scale... I suspect markings on the scale are not really reflects a power now - metal aging and rust does their destructive job pretty well.
Top.. thank you..!
Beautiful job, it looks great!
An amazing restoration
Fantastic. I still use one just like it. I have never trusted the newer click type torque wrenches.
Perfect
Any video is perfect!👍
Fantastic job, Mr Patina (again).
Otro gran trabajo de restauración, yo tengo un torquimetro igual a ése de marca snap on made in USA de los años 80s pura calidad buen video saludos 👍
beautiful, love to see unusual things restored to perfection
Thanks!
Love your work man, keep it up! Love from Brasil! 🇧🇷
Absolut amazing job. Love it ❤
Very talented. I've always wondered how accurate those type of torque wrenches are
Beautiful 👍
When you lose everything you have, you find the only thing you need.
У Вас золотые руки!
relaxing
Beautiful work!
Amazing
Вряд ли этот инструмент будет точным, после того как в рычаге высверлены отверстия и после термической обработки
Magnificent Mr Patina. Are we going to see some new projects coming soon. ?
Iam currently editing the new video! 🙂👍
