      Greg Halliday Greg, it is refreshing to visit Hickok's channel, and not have my ears assaulted with scatological language! Listen, I am far from a prude! I was in Marine Corps Boot Camp at the age of eighteen; and at the tender age of twenty, I was humping in the valleys and mountainous terrain of South Vietnam, with the 1/3 Marines, looking for,"Charlie." I understand that people bring their kids to these channels, and what they aren't looking for is someone who lacks a basic education, and therefore it shows up in the way that they converse with the public. So yea, thank God for people like Hickok. The man is the epitome of what a Gentleman should be when dealing with the public. What he does off camera is his business!

    Yes, I agree. The very fact that one is not going to always be able to consistently get his body exactly right, or even want or need to, when the need to fire arises (competition or on the street), confirms how important practice is. Whatever position your body is in, it comes down to trigger break and sight coordination more than anything.

    I'm an old timer trained by Col. Cooper himself. Attended the American Pistol Institute (API) for several years running. First class was basic pistol back in '78. The Col. did in fact credit Jack Weaver with the "Weaver Stance" in his lectures. As I remember, Jack had a problem with his left elbow and was not able to straighten it and that caused him to both push and pull which reduced muzzle climb. The Col. would always say that the problem was not holding the pistol up but rather holding it down under recoil and the "Weaver Stance" did that naturally. By the way, just a fun fact, Jack used a S&W K38 back in Big Bear when the Col. was developing the "Modern Technique", not a 1911 that became the recommended pistol for DVC.
    Love your vids, keep them coming.

    Thank you! I always shot modified weaver but when I got my CCW the instructor (ex cop) insisted isosceles was the only way to shoot. I did it that day and it was on but just not comfortable for me. Glad to know someone as accurate as Hickock uses the same stance that I prefer.

    • @TerminalM193
      @TerminalM193 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be a huge negative sign in my book on the ex cops behalf. He's doing a disservice to the entire class by saying there's only one way to stand when shooting, especially in a stressful situation like defending you or your loved ones lives.... It's so important that people adapt to whatever they feel is most comfortable AND balance that with on target consistency. If you're Alittle too comfortable and having less than desirable spreads then adapt to the next best thing as far as comfort goes because in a self defense situation you want to try and go off of practiced muscle memory as much as possible to help combat the insanely stress filled and adrenaline dumping act.

    Been shooting for a few years and just wasn't happy with my handgun shooting. Watched these three handgun techniques videos last night, did some dry fire practice, and was tearing it up at the range today, shooting tight groups at 15 yards. I started shooting a Glock 21 Gen 4 recently. I tried the Isosceles stance. Man that was not for me, all over the place. I have been shooting many years with a rifle; never a hand gun. Then I watched this video and practiced. I am now shooting palm prints at 50 yards using the Modified Weaver. I always recommended this video to new hand gun shooters.

    It's definitely the Weaver stance for me. It gives you the option to run if you need to; or punch, jump, etc..

      My body just loves weaver. Can't help it. Yeah isosceles might give most people more range from left to right but I have long arms and big hands and it's actually not as much of a problem for me as you would think. I will never really understand isosceles being Superior to Weaver because you point your entire body forward out in the open. Least with Weaver you're sort of concealed. Plus with isosceles you kinda look like a fucktard lol.

    • @CramcrumBrewbringer
      @CramcrumBrewbringer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I believe they train law enforcement and military isosceles because it keeps the body armor facing the enemy.

    • @stevepalpatine2828
      @stevepalpatine2828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same. Isoceles is popular with competition shooters, that's why it's so often pushed as the "right" way.
      Interestingly, Jerry Miculek was actually my CCW instructor and I asked him about it, he said ( I'm paraphrasing, was a long time ago) "3 gun ain't self defense, if it comes down to it, use what works for you, what you're most comfortable with"

    • @SirPlusOfCamelot
      @SirPlusOfCamelot ปีที่แล้ว

      And that's why we check and clear again. He could have easily stopped filming or edited it. That is what I like about his videos, he shows the truth. He safely handled a loaded firearm that he thought was unloaded. Also he is occasionally caught in a flinch on camera and is not ashamed to let the world see. I like that.

      Lol he still cleared it.
      That's what I like about Hickock, he's real enough to leave something like that in when some people would edit it out from embarrassment, this way it even serves as a learning example as to why you _always_ double rack first, even if you think its empty.

I shot the Colt one handed for the first time today at Buds range in Sevierville. I'm re-watching these basics videos in order to improve my stance. I have watched many, if not most, of your videos, and always check to see if you've reviewed any gun I'm looking to buy. I thoroughly enjoy, and greatly appreciate, all that you do. I've been in the military for 20 years and these are very good tips you're passing on in this series. I agree with you that there is no perfect stance/hold, it should be what is most comfortable for you and contributes to more accurate shooting. I'm like you though, I'm right handed and left eye dominant and I shoot best from a modified weaver stance. I'm Air Force, but I've been trained on firearms by the Army also and they advocate the isosceles stance so your sides aren't exposed.

    Thank you! I'm right-handed/left-eyed too! I'm new to shooting and have been trying to figure out what is most comfortable, and I figured out something pretty much like what you're doing, so this is a most welcome affirmation.

    I'm a total "Noobie" to Firearms. You answered a question a Year ago I had, and I appreciate it so much. I ended up purchasing a Springfield Armory XDm 9mm 4.5. My Wife picked it out as she will carry it mostly. She liked the feel of it, etc. Thanks so much for all you informational Videos. You are an Asset to the Firearms World.

      yep, same for me. left eye dominant but I usually fire right handed. I'm as accurate left handed but I'm not as fast or comfortable as I am right handed.

    Hickok, I learned a lot of things from this video, but the thing is learned the MOST was that safety always comes first. I am glad you checked that weapon man, because when I saw that cartridge being ejected from a firearm that has no magazine in it and especially after you said "we have a clear gun here", the hairs on my neck stood up. Let that be a lesson to us all. We can never be too sure!

    Hi, I'm one of your subscribers. Thanks so much for this series of vids. You mentioned cross dominance and to bring your eye to the gun as well as keep arm locked and straight. This helped me GREATLY!!

    As a beginning shooter looking to learn beyond what my novice friends have shown me, I not only found this video packed full of information, but the content was delivered nicely, To be honest with you, I didn't even know there were different stances. The guys I've gone shooting with had me concentrate on the sight picture, and grip. I think I'll be surpassing them soon as I continue to educate myself. Thanks for a very informative video.

    Hey hickok you helped me find my pistol shooting technique. Couldn't hit worth a crap with any of my pistols but I kinda studied your videos and it seemed to me that you aim righty but use your left eye.( which this video confirms). I tried your technique and I'm getting 1 1/2 inch groups at 15 yards. Thank you so much

    Modified weaver. That's exactly my handgun stance. Left eye, right hand. Now I know what to call it. Small strokes have slightly affected my right eye and left side, but I still shoot and practice. Good show, life's good!

    I am a right handed, left eye dominate shooter. because of this I hold the pistol with a slightly rotated grip. I love glocks because the grip angle and big hump fit my grip so naturally. I'm with you hickok
