I can remember a family get together several years ago. We were all there for a few days and we just chilled. One afternoon, this movie came on the cable TV and with nothing better to do, we just started slowly adding people to our audience as the film rolled. Mom stopped by as one of the group dances started. She asked what the name of the movie was and we told her. She said back in those days, they didn't call it "dirty dancing", they called it "dry humping". At just that moment, my father walked in, stopped, looked and as he left he said..."Ain't nobody dry on that dance floor." It took a while for all of us to stop laughing so hard. I sure miss Dad.
From "I carried a watermelon" to "Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, of what I did, of who I am. And most of all, I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you" is some of the best character development and two of my favourite lines in any movie ever.
I feel so bad for Penny. She’s a good person who got a bad lot. That wig scene where she acts rude… _“I envy you,”_ said some spoiled rich girl with a perfect life after she’s just been told how her father left the family and her mother kicked her out as a teen. Penny’s reaction is justified.
Maybe one day you will be wise enough to consider you shouldn't judge every book by its cover and every picture painted is an interpretation of what it means to you.
You mentioned when Johnny first started teaching Baby to dance that it was “like Dancing With The Stars”. Fun fact: Jennifer Grey competed on DWTS in 2010 & won! She dedicated one of her dances to Patrick Swayze. She was 50 yrs old when she competed & is the oldest female to ever win. She also set a record for the most perfect scores.
Fun Fact. Patrick was already quite the accomplished dancer. The scenes where he was teaching Baby (Jennifer Grey) to dance were real. They actually filmed Patrick teaching her so that the frustration and chemistry in the scene's would feel authentic and organic (seeing her go from not knowing how to dance at all to quite accomplished dancer).
Well, not really. Her father is the supremely talented Joel Grey, also a great dancer, so while Swayze maybe taught her the particular dances for that movie, she was no beginner.
-I always feel really emotional when Baby apologises to her dad but holds him to account too. You can see him almost cracking when she's there but completely loosing it when she walks off. Fantastic acting from both of them! - Fun fact: they had real trouble distributing this movie because customs officials looked at the title and thought it was porn XD
The director encouraged the actors to improvise. During the montage scene, when Jennifer Grey is repeatedly giggling, those were actually outtakes. Patrick Swayze was genuinely frustrated that Grey could not get through the scene without giggling. It worked so well that the director decided to keep those shots in the film.
I just watched an obnoxious other reactor, react to this, and she had to constantly have jokes, wink in the camera, talk through the movie, be the STAR of it, instead of letting the material she was reacting to, be the main thing and just simply react. You were reacting to the actual movie! It was a delight! You werent trying to make jokes, and be the funny witty reactor. It was natural and didnt overpower the actual movie so that you were missing parts, pieces etc. Loved it.
I always used to think that if I admitted liking this flick, I’d have to turn in my man card. But screw it. This is a great, fun movie that is well directed and has great choreography and music. I always enjoy the hell out of it whenever I watch it.
Patrick Swayze was a MASTER dancer. His mother was a dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor, who founded and directed both the Houston Jazz Ballet Company and her own Houston dance studio, the Swayze School of Dance. In addition to her own dance studio, for eighteen years she taught dance and choreography at the University of Houston. Her most famous students included future Emmy Award winner Debbie Allen, Randy Quaid, Jaclyn Smith and future ten-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune. All five of her children became dancers and actors. So, he was learning to dance from his mom basically his ENTIRE childhood. During Patrick's time in school, he was trained in ice skating, classical ballet, and acting in school plays. In 1972, he moved to New York City to complete his formal dance training at the Harkness Ballet and Joffrey Ballet schools.
Patrick was a classically trained dancer, and so was his wife. Which is why he was so good in movies like Roadhouse w/ martial arts. He said to him it was a form of dance, so it came naturally to him. And let's not mention that Patrick is the one singing the song "She's like the Wind" when he leaves after getting fired.
It's a rare treat to get to see you watch a film so perfectly tailored to you yet somehow got past you the first time. I'm sure all of your followers were literally rubbing their hands together in anticipation when they found out this was the next one up. Patrick Swayze was a world class dancer long before he was ever an actor. "What's the Merengue? Isn't that a pie!?" I think we have a new category for the Poppies...
Ok y'all it's official... Cassie's reactions make every movie just a little better. I now know I need every movie I love to have her popcorn seasoning sprinkled on em. Cassie I had the time of my life watching this. And I OWE IT ALL TO YOU!!! LOL
Jennifer Gray's giggling when Patrick Swayze ran his fingers down the arm were actual outtakes from the movie and Patrick was so annoyed hahah it's such a great tidbit. Also the shooting was notoriously awful because of the summer heat and mosquitos etc. I adore this movie, it aged so well.
I laughed my ass off at, "I thought she was going for a prenatal check up"! So innocent. Edit: didn't mean any disrespect to Cassie. Just thought it was so cute and funny
@@asperhes - I believe that! I remember when I saw it thinking- does that mean she wants an abortion?! Or maybe it is just to start up with an OB doc. For some reason it just kind of shocked me that abortion was what they were talking about and Baby was so willing to help. I was young and naive for sure! I was a little too young to understand Penny’s character had to do what was best for her.
Patrick Swayze's mother was a dance instructor and he grew up dancing in competitions. The acting came later. Apparently he was fantastic at both. This movie is absolutely timeless. Still brings tears to my eyes. "Nobody puts baby in the corner."
I think the most AMAZING thing about this movie is the chemistry they had in it. ESPECIALLY, since they hated each after filming "Red Dawn". They got over it during the audition process and wonderfully pulled it off.
As expected, this has been one of my favorites of Cassie's reactions! I did shake my head every time she asked if Penny was in love with Johnny or vice versa. Two things that I love about this movie are the concept that straight men and women (and exes at that) can still be friends, and that there is never any competition between Baby and Penny.
My absolute *obscure* favorite part is Baby's mother saying "I think she gets it from me." For those of us who remember Kelly Bishop waaaaay before Gilmore Girls, when she was Sheila, featured singer/dancer in the original cast of the ensemble Broadway show A Chorus Line. Saw it in 1976, on a field trip to NYC in high school.
@@Mantarhochen Baby's mother in _Dirty Dancing_ was Kelly Bishop, the original Sheila in the Broadway _A Chorus Line_ , but she was also Emily Gilmore, you are right there. The movie Sheila was played by Vicki Frederick.
The chemistry between Swayze and Grey is so amazing, but even more so when you consider that they really hated each other, they didnt get along at all!
Yup, this was going to be my comment. I think Swayze had to try really hard to bury the hatchet with Jennifer before she could be convinced to do the movie. Apparently there was some bad blood from a previous movie they did. Maybe "Red Dawn"? I don't remember.
They hated each other before Dirty Dancing, from their time working on Red Dawn. But they said they got past it and actually enjoyed working together on this movie.
@@ClickToPreview yes, I’m pretty sure it was friction that developed during Red Dawn. I thought the actors relationship much more amicable once the DD was in production.
@@ClickToPreview yes, on Red Dawn the director told Swayze to be very bossy, method acting as the leader of a group of guerillas. So he was told to be a dick.
I agree, most of these so called 'first time watching or hearing' is made up. Its all to generate views so they earn money. You must live on another planet to avoid seeing or hearing some of the most popular films and songs in the world haha!
@@tonymantle9734 I don't think that's true. I'm 41 and work a job that has me talking to a lot of people in their 20s and 30s. I talk movies all of the time, and I'm stunned by how illiterate people are these days when it comes to movies that were made more than twenty years ago. My girlfriend is 29 and didn't know shit about classic cinema when we first started dating around five years ago. She hadn't seen The Matrix, The Terminator, The Karate Kid ... the list goes on and on.
Just some interesting facts about Dirty Dancing: The film was first aired at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987 and while costing just $5 million to make, has earned over $214 million worldwide. The scene where Baby was uncontrollably laughing as Johnny stroked her arm, turned out to be a complete accident. Screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein explained that “It was very late at night and we were all exhausted. Jennifer [Grey] is ticklish and she started to laugh, and Patrick got exasperated.” She added,”When we saw it, we burst out laughing, and when Jennifer and Patrick saw it for the first time, they burst out laughing because we’d completely forgotten that this had even happened.” In the dancing scene where Johnny and Baby were crawling towards each other, they were just messing around and warming up for the scene, but producers loved the moment so much that they kept it in the movie. Dirty Dancing, birthed the saying “Nobody puts Baby in the corner,” but even though everyone else couldn’t get enough of the line, Patrick Swayze was not in favor of it. In fact, Swayze hated the line so much he asked a number of times to get rid of it altogether. His requests were declined and it became one of the more recognized lines of the movie that is still reused today. In hindsight, Patrick admitted that it worked.
When I was a kid I asked my grandma why the movie was called Dirty Dancing and she pointed out that his knees get dirty when he slides on them in the last dance scene. It was years before I figured out she lied to me lol.
What is so amazing is that they had that incredible chemistry despite not getting along. Swayze was apparently very upset that Jennifer Gray wasn't taking the dancing seriously enough. It just shows that great acting and chemistry can overcome a lot. Also, the supporting cast should not be ignored. Jerry Orbach was a national treasure. These camps definitely did exist in the Catskills and Poconos. My mother was a waitress at one for the summer when she was about 16. And I never really realized it but both of Baby's parents were played by Tony award winners for musicals and they don't even sing or dance here.
The dad (Jerry Orbach) starred in Law & Order & Baby (Jennifer Grey) was the sister in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I was 16 when this came out in 1987, five years before Seinfeld. Great reaction as always!
Jennifer Grey has a dancing pedigree. She's dancing "royalty". Her father Joel Grey was in some really great movies. Check out Cabaret...it stars Liza Minelli, and Joel Grey did a great job as the m.c.
This has to be one of my favourite reactions. When everyone around me seems fed up and jaded, your reactions to this were so filled with joy that my spirits were lifted more than I would have expected.
Patrick was a dancer for years before hoping into movies. He's done all kinds, even ballet. His wife, Lisa Neimi was a ballet dancer. They were both incredible.
The emotions on your face on the last dance is so PERFECT. It shows how engaged you were with the movie and how it created this vortex of emotions in you that you related to it. Think about seeing this movie when you were a teenager, this movie was one of the most iconic ones in the cinemas when i was a teenager and it was such an amazing movie at the time. Its amazing how the story crosses generation boundaries with such a of beautiful acting from the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. I'm very happy to see it managed to move and touch you as well.
When I was in college, at University of Maryland, I was in a Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order (KA). We had Greek Week (or it could have been Homecoming week) and there was a Dance contest in front of the whole Greek society, Fraternities and Sororities. We were doing the week with the Delta Gammas (DG) and I was selected to be the dancer for KA (I was the only one in the house who knew how to), to dance with the DG girl. Michelle was a Dance Major, so I was in good hands, as far as instruction. She wanted to do the routine from the Dirty Dancing movie, to the "Time of Your Life" song. We worked on it for a couple weeks and we went up and danced the routine in front of 3000 students, at Ritchie Coliseum! We won 1st place! Huge trophy (DG kept it at their house) and a ton of fun. I don't remember that much -- we were dressed in nautical attire, like a Sailor and Sailorette (DG has a nautical theme, nationally). Michelle did the leap and I caught her and lifted her up, I remember that. I was so freaking nervous, but we did it!
Yeah, I was obsessed with this movie as a kid and the whole pregnancy/abortion storyline just completely flew over my head. I just liked dancing I guess, lol. I love watching stuff when you're older and realizing just how much you didn't understand as a child. Like cartoons with dirty jokes and stuff. 😂 Now a lot of people watch this movie and don't understand part of that storyline because they forget it's set in 1963 - so they just think Baby's Dad is a jerk who's against it for no reason.
You're really killing it with getting me emotional. This was my mom's favorite movie. She used to make us watch it as kids. She always watched the end about 30 times. As a kid, it was annoying but looking back on it as an adult, it is very endearing and reflected her personality. I miss her so much. Watching this reaction conjured up some fond memories.
Same thing with my late mom, she watched Dirty Dancing dozens of times. She was a dancer herself when she was younger. She wouldn't miss an episode of DWTS either.
The way your face lights up when the "nobody puts baby in the corner" line happens is one of the best reaction moment I've seen so far in any reaction 💯😆
On rewatch, I really want to thank you or your editor, whoever’s idea it was to find a way to incorporate the music. The subtitles and muffling of the songs so we could kinda hear and sing along in our heads were genius! I hope you keep doing it for other flicks w/awesome sound tracks.
I’m sitting here smiling like an absolute IDIOT watching YOU be happy! Like i haven’t seen this movie every year for, like, 25 years! 😅 You should react to the movie “Untamed Hearts” starring Marisa Tomei (Aunt Mae in Spiderman & MonaLisa Vito in “My Cousin Vinny”) and Christian Slater! Fair warning….The Notebook ain’t got NOTHING on this movie! 💝
There were two popular films that Jennifer Grey acted in prior to "Dirty Dancing" (1987). One was "Red Dawn" (1984) an action-drama-thriller with Patrick Swayze. In the west mountains of America, a group of teenagers band together to defend their town, and their country, from invading Soviet forces. The other film was "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986) staring Matthew Broaderick with Grey as his sister. It is a comedy of a high school wise guy determined to have a day off from school. Highly rated and recommended. Another notable film with Swayze is "Ghost" (1990) a drama-fantasy-romance. After a young man is murdered, his spirit stays behind to warn his lover (Demi Moore) of impending danger, with the help of a reluctant psychic (Whoopi Goldberg). Again, highly rated and recommended.
I like Jennifer Grey also in the film: Wind (1992), directed by Carroll Ballard, and starring also Matthew Modine and Cliff Robertson. Even though "Wind" is not a very good movie, I still really like it, and it's one of the few movies about sailing racing.
She's also the daughter of Tony-winning musical actor Joel Grey. Mom and Dad (Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop) were both Tony winners as well, she for A Chorus Line and he for Promises, Promises!
I watched this in 1987 when it came out. I was 12 years old. Everyone in my class saw it. We all wanted to dance. Patrick Swayze made it cool for guys to dance ! Great movie! More happy endings for you!!
@@raelshark I understand. But when footloose came out I was 9. I wasn't into the chics. At 12 yrs though I was and I wanted to dance. But later in life the Footloose song was the jam and still is going strong. We have an 80s bar in my hometown and footloose always brings them out. Cheers to our totally awesome 80s jams
@Kristopher Chavez I totally jam to footloose it's fantastic! But when I was 9 years old when the movie came out I wasn't into it. But like brushless sprouts the song grew on me later in life. I'd say in Jr high.....circa 1988. I have loved that song since 1988. Love it! Dance and sing to it. I think I even wrote that on my last post. I explained that I didn't like it at 9 years old in 1984. But there are people out there that probably don't like the song. I think they are missing out. But to each thier own. Be kind to everyone. I love my 80s music
Thank you. This was my mother's favorite movie. She was absolutely in love with Patrick Swayze. Today is literally the anniversary of her passing. We lost her 33 years ago today. This was the perfect thing for me to watch today. I'm glad you loved it.
i thought i was reading about my own mum for a second there, she's the same way. sorry to hear of your mother's passing, but glad you found a little bit comfort in this reaction.
@@-gohu- Thank you. Patrick Swayze and Tom Selleck were my mom's loves. I have this movie memorized, because she watched it so much, and I haven't watched it since the 80s.
this was such a great reaction, and yes they did have amazing chemistry. funny fact, at the beginning of filming they didn't get along at first. they were both in a movie together called Red Dawn before and rubbed eachother the wrong way so they went in having beef and then ended up becoming really great friends during the filming of this movie and stayed life long friends after. also, Patrick Swayze sang the song "She's Like The Wind" in this, and actually wrote it as well with his friend.
As soon as my daughters became adults I introduced them to Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Flashdance, Pride and Prejudice, Titanic and so many more, it's a rite of passage
When this movie first came to cable, there was a video that aired about the making of the film. In it, Jennifer Grey revealed that her laughing at the 14:27 mark, as Swayze ran his hand down her arm, was genuine. And that the frustration on Patrick Swayze's face was genuine as well. As Grey put it, "I'm sorry, but I am ticklish."
This was the best reaction I've seen anyone do to this movie. I smiled so much as you kept getting more and more into it. Especially when they did the lift. My dad used let me run down the hallway at him and do the lift with me when I was a kid. And then again and again. His poor arms. Thanks for reacting to this - it's one of my favorite movies and brings back such good memories!
Patric Swayze died of Pancreatic cancer at the age of 58. This is how we remember him. Johnny Castle. Jennifer Gray did a dance tribute to him at an awards show maybe 10 years ago and it was stunning. Patric's Dad was an early T.V. personality. John Cameron Swayze. He died of the same thing years earlier. Jennifer Gray is the Daughter of Joel Gray who was the Master of Ceremonies to Liza Minnelli's Staring role in Cabaret...They were both 2nd Generation show biz. They had acted together in one other movie, (Red Dawn) But this is the only one where they were paired up. It was fun watching you see this for the first time. Thank you.
Patrick Wayne Swayze, and unfortunately he was only 57 when he passed. His diagnosis was less than 2 years prior. First saw him in The Outsiders, a great film which introduced much of the 80s/90s Hollywood young male stars. There's a memorial for Patrick at Mountain Lake Hotel where Dirty Dancing was shot. RIP Patrick.
They are both children of dancers. His mom had a dance studio that he grew up in. Her father was a famous Broadway dancer, singer, actor. Also, the woman who plays baby's mother was the choreographer. The actress who was going to play the mom had to pull out at the last minute.
This film is a total gem! Every time I think I have a new favorite I watch it again and I'll be damned if it isn't right back at the top of my list. It has EVERYTHING! Story telling, drama, a touch of comedy, two leads that EVERY man and woman will want to be either one or the other at some point in their lives, character development, impeccable casting, and one of the top 3 if not top 1 movie soundtracks of all time. It's a 35 year old film, set nearly 60 years ago and it's just as relatable today as it was when it first came out.
If you want to see them both together for the first time in a VERY different setting watch RED DAWN, the 1984 version. A great film with a great cast that you will recognise.
So a little fun fact, you mentioned it’s like “Dancing with the Stars,” Jennifer Gray “Baby” went on to do DWTS with Derek Hough. Was very hard for her because of her memories from this movie and her thinking he looked like Pat, but they ended up winning the entire competition that year. Also “She’s like the Wind” was performed and written by Patrick Swayze. He wrote it long before this movie and loved the script so much he released it to the director who then insisted that Pat do it himself which then became a HUGE hit in the 80’s. Look up the music video and you’ll see how iconic it is. I always liked Jennifer Grey from “Ferris Biller’s Day Off” & “Red Dawn” all great movies, but this is the one that made her timeless. Great reaction!
This was made in "87" but was set in the "60's. By the way, we dirty danced in the " 80's pretty dirty! It was the 80's, not the 40's! We had more freedom, and fun than any kids since! As a matter of fact, a lot of things we did then would be considered evil in today's goody goody world!
My entire family loves this movie and my daughters know that the last scene gets me every time, you were great & I teared up right along with you! What fun!
That song you hear as Johnny first leaves “She’s Like The Wind” is by Patrick Swayze himself. Nice to hear that he could sing as well as act. R.I.P Patrick Swayze
Top two reaction moments I've seen on this channel: Rocky II "win" and "the lift" in Dirty Dancing. One of your funniest lines ever: "did she just make two first moves in a row? I'm so proud of her."
I just realized I probably haven't seen this movie since I watched "Gilmore Girls" so I didn't know "Emily Gilmore" was in it. She is barely 45 here. When it came out, the soundtrack was a big hit and my mother played it all the time. It was in the middle of '60s nostalgia that lasted throughout the '80s.
Fun fact. That actress, Kelly Bishop, is a dancer in her own right. She won a Tony Award in 1976 for originating the role of Sheila in A CHORUS LINE on Broadway.
Another endearing reaction, Cassie.❤️ Dirty Dancing is the only movie I’ve ever finished watching and then immediately watched again.😂 My college roommates and I rented it one rainy Sunday in the early 90s and we didn’t even need to discuss it. Someone just hit rewind, and then we all just sat there for two more hours of Swayze.😍
The joy of watching you enjoy these movies makes me fall in love with them all over again. The world and internet can make people jaded, but your reactions are so genuine and pure. I love that you created this and share it with us all.
This is one of my favorite movies. I saw it for the first time when I was 16 years old. I remember going to see it two more times the same week because I loved it so much, especially all the ballroom dancing. I remembered Johnny saying that he learned how to ballroom dance from an Arthur Murray instructor and that stuck in my head. I had wanted to learn how to ballroom dance ever since I watched old black and white Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies as a little girl. About 25 years after I saw Dirty Dancing for the first time, I started taking ballroom dancing lessons with an Arthur Murray Instructor. I fell in love with it. I have been dancing ballroom for 11 years now and every time I get on the dance floor with my partner, I think of that scene from the movie. It never left me and because of this movie I have found so much joy in my life through ballroom dancing, including the Merengue. It was fun to see your reaction! If you want to learn to dance, then I say go for it! Arthur Murray is still giving lessons.
When Johnny is leaving, after being let go, and he says goodbye to Baby, the song that's playing, 'She's Like the Wind', is co-written and sung by Patrick Swayze.
I was in my 20s when this movie was released. My roommate and I saw it so many times at the theater that we walked in one day and one of the ushers said, "You two again?" Then when it came out on video, a bunch of my friends were visiting our parents in our hometown and were watching the movie at one of their houses. Her mom came in and asked if we could just fast forward to the scene where Baby and Johnny dance in his room. My friend, looking all shocked, shouted out, "Mom!" and the rest of us just laughed our a***s off.
Fun fact: in the scene where "Johnny" (Patrick Swayze) is leaving in his car, the song playing called "She's Like The Wind" is sung by .....Patrick Swayze. And Swayze was a dancer in real life along with being an actor and a singer. So, these moves in this film were just second nature to him.
Omg watching you watch this movie made me so happy and giddy, I am so surprised you had never seen it before but had no doubt you were going to love it, so romantic and such a wonderful happy ending like you always want. Your reaction was perfect, so fun to watch. And a little trivia the song being played during the scene when Jonny and Baby say goodbye after he was fired and he speeds away in his car was actually sung by Patrick Swayze, and yes he already knew how to dance way before this movie came out, his mother was a dance instructors and Actually Patrick and his wife were both dancers. RIP Patrick! ❤️
Great reaction to a great movie. Highly recommend An Officer And A Gentleman from 1982 with Richard Gere and Debra Winger. It fits in with your Valentine's Day theme and is another classic.
I hate this movie, I remember being in the 4th grade & getting my eyes covered constantly. I've had so many girlfriends wanting to watch this & I was like, Nah... Before Covid I was taking dance classes with a lady love & it was absolutely amazing. But now, watching this review, being older & a romantic, appreciating what a well written movie this is; I can now say this is gosh darn gold. What a true classic that it is! Cassie, your ability to bring out the best is not lost on me. Keep up the good work!
It is impossible not to love this movie! Places like this really did exist. My parents used to go to a place like this in Vermont in the late 60’s when I was a really little girl and I went along. They loved this movie because it made them nostalgic for those great times they experienced there.
Several have mentioned also reacting to "Footloose" but since you've mentioned Travolta in "Grease" you should now also watch "Saturday Night Fever" which is probably his best dancing scenes.
You should see Jennifer Grey's performance in "Dancing with the Stars". She danced to one song from "Dirty Dancing" - "Do you love me". When asked by an interviewer why she didn't choose the song "Time of my life", her response was: "because that song is for me and Patrick". She's such an amazing dancer, and she ended up winning that show!
Great reaction Cassie! I thought you were going to burst into tears when they did the lift! 😄 And that last kiss!! 32:26 I thought your watch might have to tell you to breathe. Priceless!!
“What’s a merengue? Isn’t that a pie?” I’m dead…that broke me. Lol 😂 🤣😂🤣. That comment made my Friday. Thank you
Same. LOL just cackling over here
Too freaking funny
As a chef, I've heard this many times, its not that unusual.
Nothing like a 30 something man, going after a 17 year old girl.
Salsa and merengues lol sounds like a Mexican pie.. just kidding
This movie was my wife's and my first date. By halfway through, we were holding hands. We celebrated 31 years in September.
Congrats! If you guys have any kids you can tell them if it weren't for Patrick Swayze they wouldn't exist 😉
Happy anniversary, and here's to many more! 🥂🤞🎊
Congratulations, man!
Congrats! This movie for me was a first date with a girl I had a crush on. Alas, we didn't work out over time. But the date went well. Lol
@@thedoneeye "Kids, Patrick Swayze is the reason your mom got pregnant. Wait, let me rephrase that...."
The song "She's Like the Wind", that plays when Johnny is leaving after being fired, was written and performed by Patrick Swayze.
"She's like the wind, through my tree."
Yeah the dude could do it all, what a legend...
And that song made him one of the highest selling recording artists of all time.
Rob Lowe has said Swayze wrote that song way before DD and was trying to get Coppola to use it in Outsiders which totally didn't fit at all.
I didn't know this, how awesome! Swayze was a really cool guy
Fun Fact II, The song used when Swayze drives away after he was fired was actually sung by him. Man was multi talented.
He also wrote the song.
she's like the wind
He was also a licensed pilot and professional level horse rider
hes in red dawn with jennifer etc to? if carly and cassie to do it if not yet
Patrick Swayze: martial arts, acting, dancing, singing; wow. Was so much more than a triple threat. Such an amazing talent. Obviously he'll be missed.
And he sang that song She's Like the Wind toward the end when he sped away in the car, lol.
He was also a cowboy with his own ranch irl so yeah, man of many talents

HAHAHAHAHAH. Poppa know best. That was a legendary line.
That's absoluitely fucking hilarious man. I laughed out loud cause it's so damn true.
those are the best kinds of memories
The man, the myth, the legend
I don’t think the movie would have been nearly as much of a success if it had gone by the title “Dry Humping”.
His mother was a dance instructor and choreographer, that's where he learned to dance.
And Jennifer Grey's father is the legendary Joel Grey, a singing, dancing actor who has won both a Tony and an Oscar for his role in CABARET.
Patrick Swayze was the total package in his prime. He did Dirty Dancing to Roadhouse to Ghost to Point Break. Guy was amazing in everything
The song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" was actually made for the film, and it won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy.
And went to number one on Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemp charts. I was ten when this movie came out and this song was EVERYWHERE.

Jennifer Grey would have had a much more successful career if she hadn't gotten that nose job.

@@andyholmes6380 I’ve watched friends multiple times and dirty dancing the same amount and I had no idea that was Jennifer!! I’m shocked
That’s why you see him rolling his eyes and getting annoyed as she keeps giggling and he is trying to really teach her.
Well, not really. Her father is the supremely talented Joel Grey, also a great dancer, so while Swayze
maybe taught her the particular dances for that movie, she was no beginner.
Dirty Dancing never gets old. The soundtrack, the characters and the story. It just holds up so damn well.
For more Patrick Swayze I suggest "Ghost" from 1990!

excellent suggestion!
Because it was natural. Any other way would be unnatural.
Loved it.
Well said.
Patrick Swayze was a trained dancer. He used to perform with his wife. They were both professional dancers. I think she is still alive.
She is
His mom was also a dancer
Not only is she still alive, she's working on a proper sequel as of sometime last year.
Before acting he was a pro ballet dancer and he also knew ice skating.
Lisa Niemi is still alive yes.
I always used to think that if I admitted liking this flick, I’d have to turn in my man card. But screw it. This is a great, fun movie that is well directed and has great choreography and music. I always enjoy the hell out of it whenever I watch it.
There are many things that I learned about being a man through watching this movie. Men should continue to take notes from Swayze...
Hell no, this is a great movie lol
He was pretty good on skates too. th-cam.com/video/RvDSWS2KXTQ/w-d-xo.html

“What’s a merengue ? Isn’t that like a pie ?”

First time I saw this, I thought the same thing. Granted, I was 12, but still. They never actually use the word abortion at any point.
Patrick Swayze's mother was a dance instructor and he grew up dancing in competitions. The acting came later. Apparently he was fantastic at both. This movie is absolutely timeless. Still brings tears to my eyes. "Nobody puts baby in the corner."
agent coulson did!

Patrick Swayze hosted SNL back in the day; during his monologue, he did a ballroom dance with his wife. He was an accomplished dancer.
Just some interesting facts about Dirty Dancing:
The film was first aired at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987 and while costing just $5 million to make, has earned over $214 million worldwide.
The scene where Baby was uncontrollably laughing as Johnny stroked her arm, turned out to be a complete accident. Screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein explained that “It was very late at night and we were all exhausted. Jennifer [Grey] is ticklish and she started to laugh, and Patrick got exasperated.” She added,”When we saw it, we burst out laughing, and when Jennifer and Patrick saw it for the first time, they burst out laughing because we’d completely forgotten that this had even happened.”
In the dancing scene where Johnny and Baby were crawling towards each other, they were just messing around and warming up for the scene, but producers loved the moment so much that they kept it in the movie.
I think those takes where she breaks down laughing and he looks annoyed are real, not acted.
Those trips to the Catskills feature a lot in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" too..
Yes! I love this movie. Classic Swayze. :D Would also suggest "Ghost". It's my all time favourite movie

And Roadhouse and Reds and Next of Kin and... Anything Swayze is gonna be good.

Yes! Cassie neeeeeeds to watch Ghost! :)
I like Jennifer Grey also in the film: Wind (1992), directed by Carroll Ballard, and starring also Matthew Modine and Cliff Robertson.
Even though "Wind" is not a very good movie, I still really like it, and it's one of the few movies about sailing racing.
Jennifer Grey then got a nose job and stopped getting much work.
Ferris Buhler's Day Off (1986) was one of the biggest movies she's been in. She had a small but pivotal role.
She's also the daughter of Tony-winning musical actor Joel Grey.
Mom and Dad (Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop) were both Tony winners as well, she for A Chorus Line and he for Promises, Promises!

He was/trained to be a professional dancer. An knee injury put an end to that.
Dirty dancing was one of my favorite movies when it came out its such a great movie I know you will like it too
You should see Jennifer Grey's performance in "Dancing with the Stars".
Priceless!!
