When Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009 Demi Moore followed with a quote from the movie, writing: “And in the words of Sam to Molly. 'It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you. ' I love and will miss you Patrick.” I thought that was awesome of her to say.
I'm glad that at least a few people on TH-cam are watching such great classics again. Many people only watch the standard films that everyone knows, but such films are becoming more and more forgotten.
Whoopi won an Oscar for this movie. The movie producers weren't even considering her for the role, but Patrick insisted she would be perfect and said he won't do the movie without Whoopi. She credits Patrick as a huge part of why she won an Oscar and they remained close friends until he died 💙
Its pretty hard not to cry at the end of this movie, great story. If Patrick Swayze had recovered from the cancer, I have no don't that his wife would have picked some fantastic movies to star in.
A wonderful but romantic ghost movie is "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", It has a charm you don't see in movies much anymore. The female lead is a strong, smart, and independent woman when women weren't supposed to be, and the lead is a Sea Captain and 100% old-school masculine and yet rendering. You'll love the ending. It's a romantic classic.
@@petern1938 I think the best use was when my friend was doing a breakfast eating challenge. Once they brought the food to the table and it looked way bigger than the pictures, I busted out that line. Lol
Ghost is one of the very few films that managed to encompass MULTIPLE genres at once successfully: Murder/Mystery, Romance, Comedy, Thriller, Horror, Drama... amazingly done. Basically, it was an action movie for Patrick Swayze, a comedy for Whoopi Goldberg and a love story for Demi Moore. Speaking of Patrick Swayze, "Point Break" (1991) with him and Keanu Reeves is one of the best movies from the early '90s, definitely worth a watch and a reaction.
Ghost was shopped all over town but none of the studios were interested. Jerry Zucker was the director and all he was known for was Airplane! The studios didn’t think it would work with him as the director. Finally, Paramount gave him a shot and the rest is history. Also, the pottery scene was parodied in one of the Naked Gun movies.

True story, my wife and I saw this in the theater when it first came out. At the scene when Willie was taken by the evil spirits, a young teen nearby said 'Wow, makes you never want to do anything bad again.'
Omg as a kid that scared the bjeezus out of me. Like a legit Fear of God type of thing. I remember seriously fretting about doing bad stuff for a year or two.

Every job I've ever had has been focused on protecting other people (well, not counting the coffee shop). I know for a fact I've saved at least three lives. One guy I saved, his wife still sends me Christmas cards. I was doing pest control at the time, when he got himself in the leg with a chainsaw. Good thing I was there, because EMS was 45 minutes out. Tourniquet and an Israeli bandage got the bleeding under control fairly quickly. I have a not so quiet pride that that guy's family gets to keep him around a while because of what I did.
Saw it in ´91 in cinema. The audience in the theatre really invested in the characters, there was a lot of sobbing/crying also laughing in the funny moments with whoopy. the 90´s were a great time to go to the movies. Love from germany
Demi’s super short haircut was a fashion breakthrough. She was unknown by me and most people before and had longer hair. She totally rocked this haircut.
Favorite scenes in this are the scenes with the Subway Ghost. Vincent Schiavelli makes such a strong impression in the movie with only five-ten minutes if that of screentime.
He was such a scene stealer in movies. To say he was unusual looking is an understatement. Very memorable in Cuckoo's Nest w/Nicholson and in Night Shift w/Henry Winkler -- "4K !!" 😄
Yep, I'm a 43 year old dude and I tear up a couple times. This movie has always been great. It had everything: comedy, drama, suspense, horror, thriller, romance. Not many films can weave all those together without falling apart.
Patrick was so wonderful. Terrible that he passed so young. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2009. He was originally pursuing a career as a dancer but at one point he developed a persistent infection in his knee which ended up affecting him long term, so he turned to acting. First film I saw him in was the cult classic "Red Dawn". He was also a singer and had a hit song that reached number three on the hot 100, and number one on the Adult Contemporary charts titled "She's Like the Wind", which Patrick said was inspired by his wife. They fell in love as teens and they were married for 34 years until his death. Was tough for me to watch Tony Goldwyn (Carl) after this film, which is a testament to his acting ability. I finally got over it and have enjoyed seeing him in numerous roles over the years. He is the grandson of Samuel Goldwyn of Metro Goldwyn-Mayer Studios fame.
Red Dawn was a great movie. I get very emotional at that end scene where a very wounded Patrick Swayze is carrying his dying brother past that enemy officer and he (being very moved) just lets them pass and he carries him to the park and they both die on that bench together as it's snowing to seemingly a place where they probably played and were once happy as kids. I'm getting emotional just writing about it.
You can see his classical training in how he moves, even when he's not dancing. For instance, after he's a ghost, and he jumps through the door... that's a very "dancy" way to leap. Regular people don't leap like that, but dancers do... he's just so graceful in all that he does.
Fun Fact #2: Jerry Zucker's mom Charlotte makes a cameo in *"GHOST"* as the Bank Officer. She also made a cameo in all three *"Naked Gun"* films, directed by Jerry's brother David Zucker (the first 2 films) and Peter Segal (the third film), with Jerry as a co-writer for the 1st film and an executive producer for all three films.
42 year old former Infantryman and combat veteran. This movie will bring me to tears every time. I love my wife so deeply just the thought of one of us dying (which is inevitable) and being apart crushes me. Glad the two of you enjoyed this movie.
I remember when i saw that movie the first time at the age of 35 (?) bec my wife loves it, i wasnt that interested bec Swayze, "woman movie", love story etc...but i had tears too.
Carl was played by Tony Goldwyn, a very accomplished actor and grandson of Samuel Goldwyn of Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer studios (the lion roaring at the beginning of movies).
Sam was such a good spirit when he saw dead Carl. You felt the sadness in his voice when he said Carl`s name, he knew Carl was the reason he died but he still felt a sadness knowing what was coming for him. Carl hurt him bad but Sam still felt bad for him, no sense of anger or revenge just like Why did you do this
And to be fair to Carl, and this is something I think the ladies missed also, he said to Willy that he was only supposed to steal Sam's wallet, not kill him. So Carl was dirty, no doubt, but he didn't mean for Sam to die.
I can't watch this movie without crying, even though I've seen it many times. In no small part because Patrick died so horribly, of pancreatic cancer. I remember some of the final pictures of him, he was only 57, but looked 90, he was so gaunt. But I choose not to think of him that way, I'll always remember him from this movie, and Dirty Dancing-so help me, if they EVER try to remake that movie like they did Roadhouse, there will be HELL TO PAY! Other movies too. Speaking of Hell, when I saw this in theaters, the black shadows scared the CRAP OUT OF ME! If there is a Hell, I imagine that is exactly what populates it. They're the essence of Evil. No pitchforks, no horns, no demons, just beings of non-energy and Darkness. Heck, they still scare me today. There is something so primal and visceral about them. I know Carl was a bad guy, but I felt bad for him at the end. He never meant for Sam to be killed. Willy was just supposed to rob him. At the end, when Carl sees Sam again, he looks so happy to see him. He really did love his friend. Carl did some crappy things that brought about his own demise, but he was more careless and desperate than evil. I know it makes for a better ending, but I think Carl should have gone to somewhere between Heaven and Hell, maybe Limbo, maybe to another life on Earth. Tony Goldwyn, who played Carl, is a member of Hollywood royalty, of Metro-Goldwyn-Myer lineage. Glad you liked the movie. I'm still crying as I type this. You guys are one of my top four movie reactors, along with (in no particular order) Ashleigh Burton, AKA "Awkward Ashleigh," Alex Hefner and OctoKrool. I always look for you guys first when I want to watch a movie reaction! Thanks for being so darn good and real at it! You probably won't see this, since it's been a year, but on the off chance you do, I'm looking forward to more movie reactions with you! 💙
The bit when the guy pretends to be contagious in the lift is actually a thing the director Jerry Zucker had been doing in real life for years, along with David Zucker and Jim Abrahams. The three of them previously wrote Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Ghost is spoofed in the Naked Gun sequel, although Jerry Zucker was not involved in the writing. But his brother was and asked him the permission to steal the classic pottery scene. The voice over in the teaser trailer announced: "From the brother of the director of Ghost."
Patrick Swayze died in September of 2009 of Pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. My wife of 30 years died of Pancreatic cancer only half a month after he did at the age of 48. She looked up to him as a strong roll model for fighting it. It was found in her in March of 2009 and she pasted in early October 2009. Patrick was diagnosed in January of 2008 and lasted far longer than her. His ( Patrick's) last words, " the Love inside, You take it with you" always makes me gush with tears. I know it's true because I'm taking it with me. There is no one but my wife still and my love for her is stronger than the day she left.

Whoopi has a very special love for Swayze as he said he wouldn’t make the movie if Whoopi wasn’t cast in it after producers and the director were not convinced she was right for the part. Whoopi would later win an Oscar for her work on the film and thanked Swayze in her speech.
You two are GOOD! The first time I saw this movie I didn't peg Carl as the bad guy at all until the scene where he confronted Willie. You got him right away. Very impressive. The actor playing the gost in the subway that teaches Sam how to move things in the physical world was played by Vincent Schiavelli. He is a wonderful actor with a very distinctive look. As you said, kind of like a Muppet. He looks that way because he has Marfan syndrome. This is an inherited disorder that affects connective tissue - the fibers that support and anchor your organs and other structures in your body. Marfan syndrome most commonly affects the heart, eyes, blood vessels and skeleton. People with Marfan syndrome are usually tall and thin with unusually long arms, legs, fingers and toes. I sort of makes it look like he's melting. It can be fatal, but MR. Schiavelli died from lung cancer in 2005.
Whoopi was so awesome back in the day. Btw.. Vincent Schiavelli was the actor who played the 'subway ghost'. He was also the biology teacher Mr Vargas in Fast Times At Ridgemont High (as well as many many other roles). His character face was his claim to fame. He was beloved by all, as was Patrick. RIP Patrick and Vincent.
The bank scene, and the one following it where Whoopi gave the check to the nuns always has me dying from laughters. One of the most memorable moments of comedy in all the cinema history.

This movie is so close to my heart. When my grandmother's best friend passed away, i watched this movie as it's been my comfort movie for a long time. Once the ending came and Sam walked into heaven, i was a complete mess with tears running down my face and i had to wake my mother up from sleeping because i was so upset. It felt like i was saying goodbye to her for the last time. Now, come up to a couple of years ago, i had a dream about my grandmother's best friend as she came to me in spirit, and i know it was her appearing to me. Her face was there as clear as day. She was walking towards a rocket/spaceship of some sort to depart into space. I felt like this was her from the afterlife telling me she was okay, and maybe she used space as a metaphor that she's never too far away if i ever need her. This dream was the closure i was wanting for so long. I absolutely believe something exists, and this dream felt like a confirmation. Ghost is absolutely one of the most beautiful films i've ever watched in my life, and i needed to share that story just to tell you why this film means everything to me. Thanks for doing this one!
the lesson the creepy dead guy gave him about moving objects sounded like the same guidance yoda gave luke when teaching him about the force. "all your anger, all your hate and just move it!" also the sounds of the dark spirits that take bad people away was made by recording babies crying and they reveresed the sounds and slowed them down to make that horrible noise
Hill I will die on is Tony Goldwyn's scared acting is one of the best I've ever seen. Most actors seem to think the more scared you are the more over the top your face, but fright is a gut feeling, like you're sick to your stomach and he does it so well. Also you should watch Point Break as well!
Yeah, at multiple points in the movie you can see him look like he's about to throw up, very convincingly. The acting is great, but I feel like makeup should get at least some credit - you can't just act pale and sweaty, and they knocked it out of the park. Everything came together really nicely in this film.
"The Ghost and Mrs Muir" is a great film. Rex Harrison played a gorgeous ghost. Also consider "On Borrowed Time" starring Lionel Barrymore (Drew Barrymore's relative), "Death Takes a Holiday" (1941?) is the original version of "Meet Joe Black".
I even liked the ol' Ghost and ,Mrs. Muir sitcom starring Hope Lang and Edward Mulhare that aired on ABC. Not as classic as the movie, but entertaining nonetheless.
Saw it in the theater in college. The credits rolled and the lights came up and about 70-80 people all at the exact same time made the same noise - a deep breath in combined with sniffling, from the crying they’d been doing the last 5 mins of the movie. One of the funniest things ever, after such an emotional climax to a movie.
I’m 35 years old and grew up watching this film because of my two older sisters. The ending still brings me to tears. It’s so beautiful and bittersweet. It’s so unfortunate that he was murdered and that they were robbed of their time together, but it’s amazing that there was this kind of closure (knowing what happened, knowing how the other felt and getting to say I love you one last time) I think that’s what most people would want, especially after the losing a loved one so unexpectedly.
I've seen it many times because it's a movie that my family enjoys so whenever it's on Tv we get along and watch it. Never made me cry, but this movie reaction made me tear. lol. Great reactions.

19:43 Before computers people had to make a lot of phone calls to find out if someone has a criminal record. And it was easy to slip through the cracks, so criminals would move a lot to new jurisdictions. Which then gave rise to people being suspicious of new people and transients (this goes back thousands of years). But at the same time populations were a lot smaller so people knew each other and and could keep tabs on people easier. It boils down to a simple reality, yes you could leave one place and almost start a new life elsewhere, but if you're a career criminal, you'll be soon enough burning bridges there too, so it wouldn't make much of a difference. If you really wanted to change your life you could. But then, people can still do that now for the most part.
Oh snap that was Stephen Root! lolol I didn't realize he was in this too! Way before Office Space. And vincent chiavelli as the Subway Ghost, classic. Perfect casting. Vincent had Marfan's Syndrome and it made him unique actor

I knew you guys would love this. Of course the leads got all the accolades and rightly so, but the supporting cast is often overlooked - Rick Aviles (Willie), Vincent Schiaparelli (subway ghoul) and especially Tony Baldwin in the thankless and difficult role of Carl were all outstanding and helped to make this movie such a winner.

I believe there is so much about our souls and our existence that we don't understand. Great reaction, you two! Absolutely loved it!
My wife and I went to see this on our first date! 32 years ago. It was such a big hit that the theaters were jam packed, and we got there a bit late and the only seats were right up front! Oh dear! It's a great 1st date story anyway. ☺❤ Well done on picking up on the Carl angle. Not a lot of people caught that until the reveal. Lots of gasps in the audience. Whoopi won the Oscar for this, she was great. I love their version of what happens to your soul when you die. 19:43 "You just go to a new state and you don't have a record?" Yep. That's how a lot of serial killers got away with a lot of their crimes. They would be arrested and charged in one state and they would have the exact same charges in a number of different states, but State to State and Inter department/agency cooperation wasn't really established yet. It took the serial killer boom of the 1970s and 80s and computers to get Law Enforcement to work together and establish national records. Today, all it takes is a few keystrokes and you can see a persons entire jacket.

I've seen a lot of horror movies and I would easily rate the "demons" in Ghost to be among the top 5 scariest things I've ever seen on film.
As a 45-year-old male, I still cry at the end of this movie every single time. I love this movie.
My grandmother liked this and Patrick Swayze I've seen it with her my fair share of times on TV there's nothing wrong with a man liking this
The love, you take it with you
Yes we absolutely do 💚💚💚@@jaimemurphy2208

Where can I see the full movie?😐
Saw it in ´91 in cinema. The audience in the theatre really invested in the characters, there was a lot of sobbing/crying also laughing in the funny moments with whoopy. the 90´s were a great time to go to the movies. Love from germany
RIP Patrick Swayze. Love the end scene. "You take it with you". ❤
🥲
The last “bye” by Demi Moore with the teardrop is what gets me.
Demi’s super short haircut was a fashion breakthrough. She was unknown by me and most people before and had longer hair. She totally rocked this haircut.
The fact you guys figured out most of the plot and was still into the characters and the story just shows you how good this movie was
This movie watching it since his passing is a whole another vibe and personally gives me chills at the end ❤️😭
Vincent Schiavelli was awesome in everything he was in.
Totally love Schiavelli!
The cigarette scene in subway was ironic. He was smoker in real lif3 and died from lung cancer
He has a great cameo in Better Off Dead.
How were you guys NOT bawling like babies at the end??? Gets me every single time.
Yep, I'm a 43 year old dude and I tear up a couple times. This movie has always been great. It had everything: comedy, drama, suspense, horror, thriller, romance. Not many films can weave all those together without falling apart.
I remember the release in the theaters and there was sobbing everywhere
Yes, those scenes at the end where he is trying to convince her…the penny scene. And the final one too, crying like Molly right here.
Yeah that end is pretty powerful and after Patrick died its just on another level.
I was wondering the same thing. One of the few movies where I got more emotional than them.
Tony Goldwyn did the voice of Tarzan in the animated motion picture Disney's Tarzan. The cartoon character was even modeled after him.
She's like the wind...🌬
Red Dawn was a great movie. I get very emotional at that end scene where a very wounded Patrick Swayze is carrying his dying brother past that enemy officer and he (being very moved) just lets them pass and he carries him to the park and they both die on that bench together as it's snowing to seemingly a place where they probably played and were once happy as kids. I'm getting emotional just writing about it.
@@jesusloverofmysoul8794 I hear you.
You can see his classical training in how he moves, even when he's not dancing. For instance, after he's a ghost, and he jumps through the door... that's a very "dancy" way to leap. Regular people don't leap like that, but dancers do... he's just so graceful in all that he does.
Fun Fact #2:
Jerry Zucker's mom Charlotte makes a cameo in *"GHOST"* as the Bank Officer.
I gasped when you said you'd never seen Sister Act. Put it on your list, mama. It's fabulous. The sequel's great too - a young Lauryn Hill is in it!
And Jennifer Love Hewitt
@@reliablereindeer Aww yeah she is. So many fresh faces!

He didn't die in the film
@@ultimatewarrior3310 Yeah, he just died in real life.
@@ultimatewarrior3310 well the character he played died.. lol
RIP Vincent Schiavelli
Died from pancreatic cancer
Carl was played by Tony Goldwyn, a very accomplished actor and grandson of Samuel Goldwyn of Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer studios (the lion roaring at the beginning of movies).
The betrayal is just next level....the train ghost is a tormented soul he has a lot of anger
As I remember, Ghost was such a success here in Brazil that the film remained in theaters for over a year.
Sam was such a good spirit when he saw dead Carl. You felt the sadness in his voice when he said Carl`s name, he knew Carl was the reason he died but he still felt a sadness knowing what was coming for him. Carl hurt him bad but Sam still felt bad for him, no sense of anger or revenge just like Why did you do this
Yeah that was such great acting by Patrick. There’s many scenes in this movie where you can see multiple emotions from his facial expressions.
And to be fair to Carl, and this is something I think the ladies missed also, he said to Willy that he was only supposed to steal Sam's wallet, not kill him. So Carl was dirty, no doubt, but he didn't mean for Sam to die.
'The love inside... you take it with you." That's such a comforting line.
Hard to appreciate a line when in it's in a ridiculous movie.
@@floron1963 I disagree.
Whoopi has a very special love for Swayze as he said he wouldn’t make the movie if Whoopi wasn’t cast in it after producers and the director were not convinced she was right for the part. Whoopi would later win an Oscar for her work on the film and thanked Swayze in her speech.

What, the ghost talking to Whoopi in the bank instructing Whoopi on the transaction? The ghost? Much more stupid than funny.

I feel like this was one of the (many) influences JK Rowling used for Harry Potter.
Rest in peace Patrick Swayze, he fought a courageous battle against Pancreatic Cancer, gone too soon
Hill I will die on is Tony Goldwyn's scared acting is one of the best I've ever seen. Most actors seem to think the more scared you are the more over the top your face, but fright is a gut feeling, like you're sick to your stomach and he does it so well. Also you should watch Point Break as well!
It really is. To this day I associate him with sweat and anxiety.
Yeah, at multiple points in the movie you can see him look like he's about to throw up, very convincingly. The acting is great, but I feel like makeup should get at least some credit - you can't just act pale and sweaty, and they knocked it out of the park. Everything came together really nicely in this film.
Patrick Swayze was an incredible actor. Thinking about him makes me feel emotional. He is missed everyday, and not forgotten.
Damn, such a great movie, may have to watch it fully this weekend. R.I.P Patrick Swayze 😢
If you like ghost movies that aren't too scary, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is one of my favorites. It's really old, but it's WONDERFUL.
The "Topper" films are my favorite. Doubt their patreons will ever know or vote for something that old.
Also consider Lady in White next spooky season. It is a ghost story for kids.
Ghost Wisperer is (as an example for a series format) good as well
I even liked the ol' Ghost and ,Mrs.
This came out when I was in the Army in Germany. I saw it and the audience was blown away.

My father saw this film a couple months after his father had died. This movie means a lot to my dad and I'm glad you've experienced it now.
Great review! GHOST is such a good classic movie! I recommand ROAD HOUSE , it has Patrick Swayze , Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, and Jeff Healey Band also plays in the movie and created the music to this master piece! Road House is a hidden Gem!🎤🎸🎶
I highly recommend "Heaven Can Wait" from 1978. It has a somewhat similar theme about a guy who dies and tries to get back to the living. You guys will love it.
Also Made In Heaven which starred Kelly McGillis and Chances Are with Cybill Shepherd and Robert Downey Junior which also had similar plots. Both worth a look.
5:19 "Whoa, that is satisfying looking!" "Yeah!" The two of you make me smile.
😂the brief look you give each other at the end to see if no one sheds a tear. 10/10
