Hi! Thanks so much everyone for watching and commenting!!!! Unfortunately there's just wayyyy too many questions at this point to get to all of them, would any of you be interested if I made a Q&A video where I address several of the common questions I keep seeing in the comments of both my videos???
Dana my name is Giovanni (from Italy) I work in a chemical laboratory specializated on paint and it's composition, the mistery of medium isn't made from star dust or other magic things but it's made of a solution of acrylic resin (linear organic molecule) that give to paint the grip on surface. When u ad water u destabilize the viscosity of paint but is doungerous for cover of the surface. For this problem Vallejo product medium that is resin multi-compatible with low viscosity that help the painting.
Very true. I too only use water to clean my brushes using acrylic. I use acrylic dilutant like flow improver or varnish/medium to get liquid acrylic paint
The silly jokes got me interested, but in the end I realized I just watched the best breakdown on miniature glazing from this site. Great video, beautiful painting job. Waiting for more!
I felt myself immediately falling into a pit of existential angst, only to be pulled out at the last moment by the deep understanding in that horses eye.
That was AMAZING. A real eye opener for someone who’s getting back to miniatures and painting after 20+ years and whose last best resource was the Citadel painting guide. Yes, I live under a rock.
I can't tell you how many videos I've watched on glazing before this one that finally gave me an idea as to how to tackle a problem I've had for awhile. It never dawned on me to use glazing to paint the majority of a miniature when complimentary colors are placed close to one another. Most of the time, people just use it to smooth transitions made via layering with more opaque paints or to filter small areas where a wash doesn't really make sense. I think I can now paint Tyranid carapaces that have abrupt color changes where the shadows and highlights are still placed in the right spots despite being different hues (but in the same general area). I couldn't have done it without you and Vince Venturella showing how to glaze with Warcolours. The technique for the paint I actually have plus the use case presented in this video made that possible. Thank you.
I’ve been painting for awhile, but haven’t tried this technique of painting mainly with glazes. This was really informative, thank you! I also enjoy your subtle humor. Keep it up!
I've watched this about 5 times now. Love the low key, dry (as in humour not as in boring) delivery. Can't wait to try this out cos the end results look fantastic! Pleeeeaaaasssse keep making these!
Best video on glazing I've seen: it made me feel like I can actually do it. As usual it was rich with your quirky and comedic delivery and editing. Thanks!
This channel and your tutorials are what I was looking for since I have started this hobby...At last...The search is over...I cannot believe that I understand these concepts now...THANK YOU...THANK YOU
I’m new to painting miniatures and airbrushing. Of all the videos I’ve watched your’s gave me the most information and got me the courage to try this. Under painting is my chosen method.
Within just a handful of weeks, your channel has become one of my favourites for miniature painting. Great content, great personality, flawless editing! Thank you for your work and the inspiration, and I'm very much looking forward to what you're up to next!
This is extremely informative - watched a lot of movies and they just tell, no-show, kudos for making an extra effort to actually show everything in detail :)
You are the best!!! Seriously somehow you've managed to send me back in time and remind me of a great teacher I had back in college , everything so well explained! Congrats!!!
Thanks for this video Dana, I have watched many other videos on how to Glaze and came away still not understanding what I am meant to do, but this video has explained it so clearly and demonstrated it so well on the model that I finally understand what the fuss is about glazes. I think the problem with a lot of painters is they can paint great but are actually sadly lacking in how to explain it well. You on the other hand broke it down into such simple layman's terms that it just clicked. Keep this up as I am looking forward to learning more from you...
OMG I just had a revelation. Thank you so much for this video. I have been watching so much on glazing, trying to understand it a bit better, and I feel like this gave me the key that I was missing. Every other tutorial I have watched explains glazing as a technique to use on top of layering, to smoothen out the transitions. Watching you do this on a grayscale miniature made me finally understand what it is about and how to translate it to different situations. Thanks!
Best video on glazing. Clear, concise and comprehensive. Your technique is THE proper way to use glazing. Your transition method from one color to another is also spot on. Liked and Subscribed!
this is the best tutorial I have seen for making your own glaze and wet blending it. I am trying to graduate from hard edge highlighting on space marines and I am hoping I can use this to raise up those colors
great video! I just got my first minis (after desiring to get into this for over a decade) yesterday! You explain everything really well and with such a soothing voice! 10/10
Yo, this is the best guide to glazing that I have seen. really breaking things down to basics while showing a model's progress start to finish. Thanks!
What...The...Actual Eff... This just blew my mind. Never really clicked until I saw it done like this. TO THE MINIS (and donuts) WITH ALL MY GLAZES!!!!
Hey Dana, I know this is an older video but it might be worth noting that you make two references to videos you'll link at the top but don't. Great video and have a good one!
I've watched other videos I've been trying to do glazing for a little while now with ill effect. This is exactly what I needed to see how to do it right, thanks!
Leaving things like that in is what pushed me into subscribing. You are great at explaining and showing, but the forgetfulness and mistakes you leave in show you're humor and personality.
Great video. Finally a video where i can see some1 painting great but whats makes the video 10/10 is seeing the amount of paint u picking every time with all the explanations. TY!
I've watched several videos on glazing, but this is the first one in which the light bulb went on over my head, and I was like, "Now I get it!" Thank you for the in-depth explanation.
I just ordered glaze from vallejo. This is best tutorial video about glazing on yt. I didn't saw video explaining errors and how to correct them yet. Great beginner tutorial. Hope for more. Thanks.
mini painter of 15+ years here... I loved this video and learned quite a bit as I've found glazing quite intimidating! Thank you for putting it together and sharing! I also find you quite funny! (in a good way!!)
Awesome guide ! I watch lots of vids from lots of people but yours are very clear and thus both accessible to beginners and informative for more "advanced" painters ! Keep up the good work !
Utterly transfixed by the quality of these guides. Now I feel more confident before my masses of Reaper Bones/Bones Black. There's nothing worse than scrubbing/scraping a bad paint job off of miniatures.
Great breakdown. Your speech is clear and has good pacing. I've watched videos before on glazing but this combined with the underpainting video, I can actually visualize myself doing it and feel like it'd be a success. Thanks a bunch, I'm going to try it on an earth elemental (D&D).
Best video I've ever seen on glazing miniatures. Good pacing, easy to follow and understand. Liked the donuts and quirky Canadian humor (er... "humour").
Wow! .. you've just covered glazing in an understandable way... I can now see why I'm so bad at it, and why certain colours are a nightmare to glaze with!! - Can't wait for more videos - Thanks!
Dana, thanks a lot for sharing this video, it's a technique I've been struggling with, having seen all of the TH-cam videos but it wasn't until more where it finally click with me and now know exactly how is done, much appreciated. Please keep up the good work
Just wanted to say, Ive always struggled with getting to grips with glazing and tend to avoid it like the plague (no Nurgle pun intended) thank to that, but Ur calm approach, in-depth explanation and bringing visuals explaining the technique I feel like I can smash in now! Definitely going to be trying some glazing out tomorrow my morning session before work! Thanks Dana, u have a new sub from me doll!
This has completely changed the way I am going to paint going forward. Stumbled upon while I was looking for a way to improve the Manticore I'm doing atm. My model went from eh, to holy moly I love it haha Thank you for showing us this way to paint!
This video was so good I had to leave a comment. I have watched idk how many videos on how to glaze. All from golden demon painters and then some. All they do is use big words and just talk about it, they do not show clear examples or if they do they are maybe 5 second examples. They do not show other scenarios or talk about the consistency of paint vs medium. This was truly a helpful video. Thank You
Your videos' production value is incredible, and I'm learning an absolute metric ton from each one. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise! Definitely subscribing. OMG and the humor is on point. "It's a mystery." Dying.
This is fantastic. Are you a teacher? This is as good as any painting video I've seen - thank you very much for the taking the time to putting this together.
1) love this video so well edited and funny.2) SQUIGS! 3) orange and blue best colours. I’m so all about this I’m going to have to learn how to do this so happy I found this video. 😍
picking up some glaze medium tonight! I'm excited to give this a try. Love the calming dream sequence in the middle! Wet Pallet - I made my first one out of a fast food plastic container. Though I like using the lid as the base. I just think its weird/awkward to dip into the deep well. The lid being much shallower.
So glad I found your page! I love the color choices for your undead! I can't wait to use the undercoating technique. I've never heard of that and think that would make my life a lot easier, since I have so many minis to catch up on. Thanks for sharing and please keep up the awesome work!
Great stuff! This video & the underpainting one have been a huge help in teaching me how to paint. This technique has been working well for me using contrast paints to subtly glaze & blend the colors. Thanks so much!
Awesome job Dana, I'm definitely going to try these techniques. Really well explained and I'm glad you showed wicking off the paint before applying to the miniature. Other videos I've seen on glazing have neglected to mention or show that step.
Thanks!!!! Ya I agree, getting excess paint of the brush is a huge step I see almost no one else mentioning! without that step a glaze acts basically just like a wash, which misses the point entirely IMO
Absolutely agreed - I loved that is was presented almost matter-of-fact like (spice with the humor). Thanks for being calm, and not having music on all the time
Great and useful video ! Need to start practicing this tecnique, it doesn't seem so hard! What I think I'll struggle is to get saturated colours having patience to keep adding layers. Keep up the good work! Thanks
Hi! Thanks so much everyone for watching and commenting!!!! This is the trippiest painting video ive ever watched, and Ive watched them all.

This is by far the best glazing video I ever seen, it is spot on!!!!! congrats Dana
One of the best videos explaining glazes. Glad TH-cam recommended it.
I love how relatively easy it seems to blend colours this way because of the translucency of the thinned paints.
Perfect balance of humor and practical advice. Very solid explanation of glazing which has got me excited to try it out - thanks Dana!
