I never had any problems with the passengers the times I did Eurolines or Flixbus. Only that the first time I went from NL to Copenhagen with Eurolines it took only 8.5 hours from 12 midnight till 8:30. Slept fine against the window. Nowadays that journey with Flixbus takes 10 hours up to 15 hours ! (with more trips though ..). And one time after getting stuck in Hamburg rush hour, the Eurolines driver thought that he should make up , by driving >110 kmh ... Scary ! I was thrown all over my seat, overhauling many private vehicles ...

Literally took my first ever Flixbus overnight from London Victoria to Paris Bercy because of Scott. A large African woman in the seat next to me spent half the journey talking loudly on the phone and then another large African woman who was trying to sleep across the aisle instigated an argument between the two when she asked her to get off the phone, all in French. Lots of teeth kissing and raised voices ensued. I loved every minute of it and I plan to try the Flixbus overnight to Amsterdam next time.
@@wertrocks123I used two Flix buses from Leeds to London and onwards to Brussels (terminates at Amsterdam). It was a day service and we used the euro tunnels which speed up the journey
In 1977 as young man with my girlfriend, we did a trip to Malgrat de Mar in Spain: Bus from Manchester to London, train from Londo to Dover, Dover to France then a coach down to the border; the coach didn't have a toilet or refreshments. Once at the border we had to change to a Spanish bus to Margrat de Mar. It was an Experience. Later in the 90s I did the same trip, though from Rochdale, UK to Margrat de Mar Spain on 1 coach, TV, toilet and hostess. no problems
Usually found on the long trips, recently travelled Italian lakes to the Midlands, the first thing the drivers say is 'don't use the toilet except in emergency as we can't empty the tank until we return to UK'.
I had a similar bus journey all be it some years ago now from NW England to Rome, Sorrento, Pompeii via France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and I vowed I would never do it again. So I felt every mile of that journey with you. While I loved Italy once there, the journey there and back was brutal. When I returned home my dad met me off the bus and actually said I looked like I needed a holiday!
My mum and I used to do coach tours from NW England, too, done through the local Newspaper..I remember travelling through parts of France and Germany heading to Austria.
The appalling legroom on the Edinburgh to London bus, reminds me that the gold standard for bus travel was set many decades ago by Greyhound in the US. Even the 1970/80s MCI MC9 featured 3 axle air suspension, a rear mounted diesel engine, air conditioning, reclining seats with armrests, footrests, an onboard loo and massive knee room (some very long distance only seated 43 passengers). Journeys frequently include a 15-20 minute rest stop in every 6 to 8 hour travel sequence, with up to an hour in major cities for thorough cleaning, and where bus stations had good passenger facilities (food and restrooms). My longest trip was from Old Faithful Inn, Yellowstone to the NY Port Authority Terminal on 42nd St, via Minneapolis and Chicago. Something like a 60 hour bus ride for 2300 miles, comfortable travel with none of the Flix bus stresses. Ironically, since 2021, Flix’s parent German company has owned Greyhound US.
Best when arriving at Bercy to go about 400m north to Gare de Lyon. It's architecturally splendid and does at least have Le Train Bleu restaurant inside if you want to treat yourself.

@anniej1616 I don't think so. Back in the day the Aristocracy would do a Grand Tour of Europe, I suppose the landed gentry too. By 1914 I suppose you might do this in the newly fangled motor car. But you would want a driver mechanic to do this and my Grandfather was both so I suppose he took this job on to get the Laird of Glenmoriston in a Renault, south. I surmise that the intention was to get to Rome, I think intimations of impending war made them turn back.
@@RoadCone411 Just immediately prior to this, I think that's why they turned around at Milan, it's a swell town but I don't think you'd stop in Italy after several weeks on the road, I imagine they were hoping to get to Rome but they could sense war was coming.
Ive done a similar trip to this from London to Florence by flixbus. It was alright apart from continuous arse-ache. Went through Austria at night so couldn't see the sights , but service station stops every 3 hours got us through. 😂

Yeh, I travel between London & Paris quite a bit with Flixbus & the only way out of Bercy Bus Station is through that very scary park! I generally travel with someone, but a couple of times I've been on my own, arriving at 4.30am!!! Fortunately, some friendly ladies took me under their wing & gave me a lift to my hotel! Before Flixbus, it was Eurolines, & before that it was Eurobus Express, & the tickets were (mostly!) £7 return!!

That Edinburgh to London coach looks like one of the Yutong coaches, I've heard how poor the interior space is , and they look considerably shorter outside compared to other coaches( tri axles excluded). The cost of these coaches are cheaper ( they are Chinese) compared to European makes but obviously the cheaper price reflects in poorer passenger comfort. Cracking video scott, obviously the best way to Milan is by plane.
This is just your bias. I have ridden MEGABUS’s Yutong GT12 in London and the riding experience is better than Iveco and VDL.Take a Yutong ride yourself, rather than hear about it🤨
A mate of mine journeyed from London to Russia (and back) by coach some years back because he was afraid to fly. I would have been going absolutely stir crazy on a trip like that, that’s an insanely epic journey.
I did a bus trip from Berlin to St Petersburg by bus twice in 2020. Berlin to Warsaw, Warsaw to Tallinn and Tallinn to St Petersburg. Took me 32 hours. Legroom is the hardest problem.
Another great video, Scott. Would love to see a "behind the scenes" video, where you show viewers things like what luggage you take with you, what you do when you get to where you're going and how you make your way back home!
A couple of years ago, when me and my girlfriend lived in different cities far apart, I had to travel to her by bus or train each second weekend and it always were trips that were around eight to ten, sometimes even more hours. I still remember, how constipation was a thing in a way that I tried to get some food in order to constipate myself for long enough. Why? Well, I had several cases of bus or train toilets being closed or broken. When you sit in a bus and the next stop will be in one or two hours, you don't want a sudden code brown comming through. A broken train toilet is not as bad - you can still get of the train at the next stop and try to find a place to do your business there, but then you have to take the next train, which could come in one or two hours. My way of 'declogging' myself usually included lots of water, some movement and things with lots of fibre to get things going again. And yes, this felt always like a punishing endurance test to me, too - but it's the fault of the people who design the interior of busses and trains and don't take the physical needs of the customers into account but only regulations and money.
I’ve done a return trip on FlixBus between London and Augsburg with a stopover at Brussels Nord and it’s not the coach itself that is tiring but fellow passengers. It’s like all good manners stay at home. And I’m not talking just about coughing at you but for example setting up a bedding on the floor next to your feet, so you practically can’t move for few hours (won’t be even mentioning what type of travellers decided to do that). Trains, though more expensive, seem like a safer alternative nowadays.
I've had a couple of days ago travel inside Germany, around 500 kilometres and have years ago decided to avoid coaches for the same reasons as you. This time, I went for the Deutschlandticket instead and took local trains and have to say, that for the same reasons, I wouldn't do it again and opt for an ICE instead. Years ago, I did this a lot and it was also fun and still cheap. The Deutschlandticket wasn't a thing but 44 Euro could get you a countrywide ticket for one day in local trains. You usually had more leg room, you had your luggage right next to you and the journey was usually a lot of 'watching the world go by', watching movies and hearing music. This time, I had soooo many people with bad manners and as a 'reward' I now have a cold, back pain and knee pain. Never again!
@@olikane530 Brussels Nord coach stop has absolutely nothing around it, so it’s good to be prepared in advance if you change coaches and have limited time to do that. I’ve had about 2.5hrs to spare so went inside the station and found a Carrefour supermarket and a McDonalds. Don’t go on the other side of the station though, as it’s as dodgy af. Mind you, I was over there at around 9pm, so maybe that’s why I hated it so much.
@@wookie2222Mobile phones blasting out music and constantly pinging is absolutely unbearable on public transport these days to the point it's hard to get the motivation to travel anymore
@@richardmurray2068 My personal 'high light' so fare were two young male Arabs who watched some religious videos where some music is played and then someone with a turban, a long beard, a pointy finger and a dramatic voice is saying something in Arabic. Afterwards they were loudly discussing those videos and the words halal and haram fell quite a couple of times. Oh, and did I mention, that those guys were the securty guards paid by the train company and that they did this in First Class? 😞
Can I just say another great video I’m an ex flix bus coach driver doing Manchester to Newcastle and I know the seats for passengers are a nightmare because people would just sit in any regardless and the amount of arguments that I would have to sort out was a lot
Paris Bercy looks rough, but my experience of Milan is that it's not short of shady characters either. Better to do it the other way round and treat yourself to the beauty and civility of Scotland at the end of your journey. Great video as always.
Similar here, but in the 90s, not back on a bus since then. I despise travelling by bus so much, if there would only be the slightest chance of a train travelling there, I would always take the train (or not going at all).
Agree, did a coach holiday in the early 80s to Switzerland from East Midlands, over 2 and 1/2 days in total just to get there. London Vic. coach station was filthy(the garage workshop where I worked back then was cleaner), it seems like bus/coach stations haven't progressed like for example airports-grim especially eerie at night judging by Scott's video! On our second day from Paris to Swiss border it was a mind numbing journey vast acres of nothing for hundreds of miles and obviously no mobiles laptops etc to give you some relief. I felt his pain after watching the video--felt exhausted just watching it!!!
It would be simultaneously hilarious and outrageous if i got a text from a travel company saying "Hey!, guess what? we cancelled your bus!" in that exact wording🤣
I have just recently started to follow your channel following a mention by Steve Marsh. Thoroughly enjoying the experience. I make that Scotland 2, Rest of the World 0 but early days for me. Most informative and excellent for the soul.
Isn't this also some kind of medical condition in Japan? People who e.g. want to see Disneyland, travel there and come back with so disappointed expectations that they become mentally ill?
The lack of legroom on Flixbus coaches operating the London to Glasgow and Edinburgh routes seems to be a recurring complaint. It doesn't seem to be such a problem on their other routes. Food for thought?
Flixbus operates different routes, via Partner Operators who supply the vehicles and drivers. Thus, whilst the vehicle may be in Flixbus Livery, the type and specification of vehicle being used may be different from those on other routes.
Thanks for suffering this journey so we don't have to. That said, it was a brilliant trip report. Thank you for all your wonderful content. I love your videos.

Cracking video scott, obviously the best way to Milan is by plane.
This is just your bias. I have ridden MEGABUS’s Yutong GT12 in London and the riding experience is better than Iveco and VDL.Take a Yutong ride yourself, rather than hear about it🤨
Scott, you’re like my lost Scottish friend! Thanks for taking us along with you on these adventures!
If I was worried about constipation, Mac and Cheese would probably not be my meal of choice. 😂
...+ chips, crazy amount of starch and gluten vs. total quantity of food on that plate.
lol, thought this too. Complains about potential constipation, proceeds to eat absolute indigestible rubbish..
What I was thinking, too. In general, a very unhealthy lifestyle. Travel is not meant to be a punishing endurance test, imo.
Ironically I just need coffee, I often wander why he is never cruising to the toilet at cruising altitude.
Scott, that was brutal. I commend you for determination and fortitude.
How is Brussels Nord?
Yea it's not the coach its the passengers that spoil the journey
Wow complimenti per l'impresa
Can I just say another great video I’m an ex flix bus coach driver doing Manchester to Newcastle and I know the seats for passengers are a nightmare because people would just sit in any regardless and the amount of arguments that I would have to sort out was a lot
Scott, you are completely bonkers, loved every minute
Levels of hardness (Moh's scale) - SAS, Granite, Diamonds, Scott Manson.
Scott, I love these type of videos, especially how you do it - keep them coming! 👏🏻
Paris Bercy looks rough, but my experience of Milan is that it's not short of shady characters either. Better to do it the other way round and treat yourself to the beauty and civility of Scotland at the end of your journey. Great video as always.
glad you had a wonderful trip ...........nuff said !!
I was on a school coach trip from Edinburgh to Innsbruck and back in 1987. Never been on a bus since.
Similar here, but in the 90s, not back on a bus since then. I despise travelling by bus so much, if there would only be the slightest chance of a train travelling there, I would always take the train (or not going at all).
I did Edinburgh to London by coach as a student. Never done long distance bus since
Agree, did a coach holiday in the early 80s to Switzerland from East Midlands, over 2 and 1/2 days in total just to get there. London Vic. coach station was filthy(the garage workshop where I worked back then was cleaner), it seems like bus/coach stations haven't progressed like for example airports-grim especially eerie at night judging by Scott's video! On our second day from Paris to Swiss border it was a mind numbing journey vast acres of nothing for hundreds of miles and obviously no mobiles laptops etc to give you some relief. I felt his pain after watching the video--felt exhausted just watching it!!!
Hi a great video and thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I really enjoy your videos so much you have some endurance..
goumet scotish brown food .....mac n cheese with chips...yum yum.........
Not exactly a balanced diet, no doubt contributing to digestion issues.
Scott you did well Steve would be proud! i had ti go to bed after watching you mate! keep it up.x
Bercy bus station makes Victoria look like a 5-star establishment.
Lol,both are overcrowded cesspits.
I don’t think I could do even 1 of those bus rides Scott ,well done you
London to Milan on November 6th 2024. £17- £28 with Ryanair. £59-£80 with Flixbus. Who would you choose?
a great video......thanks for this....got to see scenery that properly never see........thanks for doing this
It would be simultaneously hilarious and outrageous if i got a text from a travel company saying "Hey!, guess what? we cancelled your bus!" in that exact wording🤣
Scott & Steve are legends on you tube, great content every week.
Hi Scott...Next time you come to Milan, I'll gladly host you at my house for a sleepover! 🙂
Stalker alert!
I have just recently started to follow your channel following a mention by Steve Marsh. Thoroughly enjoying the experience. I make that Scotland 2, Rest of the World 0 but early days for me. Most informative and excellent for the soul.
Welcome to pains trains everything 😂❤😂
Thanks for doing this one, because I'll never ever have to do this!
Good god Scott!!
Enjoyed the watch! Thank you!
You should do a live video chat with subscribers.
I just love your channel, no BS, you let us viewers watch your travel nightmares in such an entertaining way. Keep it up 👍
The Japanese Embassy in Paris offers a counselling service to Japanese tourists who are traumatised by finding Paris is a complete dump
Isn't this also some kind of medical condition in Japan? People who e.g. want to see Disneyland, travel there and come back with so disappointed expectations that they become mentally ill?
The Japanese have this romanticized idea of what Paris should be, and it breaks them when reality hits.
Yes, it also occurs when visiting other over hyper locations. Paris is just the most frequent offender.
you did better than my pal after he went from aberdeen to london and back again....never seen a man look so ill! he didn't look human!
Wow Scott, you really are the King of the Coaches. Talk about pushing yourself to the limit (And beyond) 👍.
Scott loves a miserable overnight bus journey . He should go to India . Their overnighters are legendary !
problem is there is no Flixbus or Ryanair service from Glasgow to Mumbai 😂
I'm sure he could get close with Wizzair !
Try Trans copacabana in Bolivia,u take all ur luggage on board as i experienced on a journey with them from Santa Cruz to Sucre.
This guy is peak bus survival specialist
Your hatred of Bercy bus station is truly admirable.
It's dodgy
Its just a hole. Literally
Thanks for suffering this journey so we don't have to. That said, it was a brilliant trip report. Thank you for all your wonderful content. I love your videos.
I remember my older brother going on one of these long coach trips to Spain, because he was frightened of air travel. After that journey though, it soon cured his fear of flying !
