Supposedly this was a fee metal concert in Moscow and over 1M people attended. I believe the largest concert crowd ever. They sent the Russian Army in as security guards and by the end of it, the soldiers were rocking out with the crowd to the music. Epic!
Whats even crazier about how the Army was interacting with the crowd says a lot. They werent all beating kids. That happened at some moments but many other military people more or less broke ranks and cheered and yelled like they were fans. Yet others stayed sorta passive not stopping the small skirmishes or partying. But it really showed how Russias big army was a shell of what it used to be. They werent well cordinated at all and many soldiers had no problem not doing what they were told to do, while on camera. They were either going wild over reacting or not actually providing security as ordered. That adds to the whole scene of what was going on. Massive crowds in a country that had only recently started allowing westerners into the country, much less blaring our thoughts and encouraging people to be individuals and resist power. Several western groups had epic shows at '91 Moscow. Metallicas entire set is epic and well produced. Just the mix of everything going on in the images of that concert hit a lil dif with older people who were old enough to remember how Russia was. We had bomb drills in schools. Teach kids to hide under desks or lock in a big basement in case Russia launched nukes at us. I had those drills a couple times a year for several years. We lived thinking nukes might actually happen at anytime for many years. To go from THAT to what you see in this concert just a couple years later is jaw dropping. Just seeing western people performing was crazy enough. Then how well they all played. The crowd size. Watching the "Menacing war machine" Army behave not very menacingly at all. When i 1st saw video of this concert decades ago you almost couldnt believe what you were seeing in every camera shot. The stage. The crowd. The Army. Helicopters flying low over the crowd. It was a lot to take in.
The other thing about this concert no one really mentions is that Pantera went on first in a crowd full of Russians. How many of them understood English? Pantera was the test Guinea pig to see how it would go. Just goes to show a language barrier means nothing when the music is powerful enough.
This was when Pantera became Modern Pantera, before this there's an album called Power Metal and before that is the Glam Metal Pantera era, Big Hair, Tight Pants and all the requisite 80's cheese.
Yes it's about to get real Mother Fuck-r! When doing a reaction to Cowboy from Hell from Pantera RIP The Abbot Brothers Vinnie Paul and Dime Bag Darrell.
Knew Pantera before Phil when they wore big hair and spandex. Dime was the kindest person. Vinnie, not as kind. My daughters best friend is Darrell’s daughter. They were together the night he got shot onstage. It was horrible. Both brothers are still greatly missed. ☮️❤️
Primal Concrete Sledge from this show is a must

When my son was learning to play guitar this was one of the first songs I showed him.
I've seen Pantera a couple times in 90s and again in their new form in a couple weeks. They are great live!
Some may not like what he said , but the Fans. They loved it. Metal Mania. Fuckin' A!!

They weren't all beating kids but too many were, and that's kind of why this concert is Legendary

@@davidwilfong8028 Really? I always thought it was Pantera then Black Crows. At least with the Monsters of Rock video that was the order.

It's worse, this was actually the Soviet Union, but it was 3 months before the Soviet union fell.
