Even though I'd grown up with a different illness as a kid, I can still relate to a fair amount of what happened to you when you were a kid. Thank you for sharing what happened with you!
i’ve never had asthma but i can definitely relate to being a sick kid, i had cancer when i was really young and remember having to go to the doctors A LOT, and having taking a pill every day.
Hey fellow cancer kid! The loads of tests and doctors visits was so real. I do have fond memories of people letting me win at air hockey though. Hope you're in remission & doing well!
I saw them, but I don't really watch Naruto. My favorite anime is TPN and it makes me sad to not be able to watch it because the second season (the one I'm on) is only on hulu. :(
As a type 1 diabetic since 7, I can 100% relate to this video. I'm now 14 and still struggle with fitting in due to my genetic disease. At camps, I'm constantly pulled aside for finger pricks and insulin dosages, and it gets in the way a lot. But people are understanding, and have made accommodations for people like myself, and that really hits a spot in my heart.
I can understand how you feel. I have to go out of class 3 times a day for my tests. I've been diagnosed since year 1. Now I'm 9, and I'm used to it, but I still always feel jealous when my friends can eat sweets and I can't. I went to Cadbury World a couple weeks ago and on the way back everyone was trading sweets and I had to have insulin to have like, 2. I hope people can relate to feeling different like I sometimes do.
I'm currently 17 (diagnosed since 15) and switched to the Libre as my main source for measuring my Blood Sugar levels about a month ago and It's actually really good. I still finger-prick when I eat (to carb-count and such) but It definitely removes some of the stress from constantly pricking your finger to just swiping your phone across a patch on your arm. If you don't like (or get fed-up of pricking your fingers constantly) then I'd suggest looking into it.
I know how you feel I'm one as well been so for 17 years i always had to be in separate room or monitored to eat lunch during the younger years i always had to worry about how to manage it when away, even now its still not easy to deal with. But just know your not alone :)
Most of my friends are very outgoing and are super hyper and sporty, and sometimes I can’t keep along with them because I can’t run or even speed walk without getting out of breath so hearing your story really made me feel better.
yes SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED I got a plant wat almost died called Connie and the one next to it is called Stawberry(my friend named it). Its nick name is Isabella/mother. Isabella has a ded bit of it in its pot....
I’m really noticing that Promised Neverland reference with Phil and Isabella xD Edit: Another reference I just saw! Emma, Norman, and Ray are all in the shelf at the part with her after school program!
I am sorry but isabella is my favorite character she is not just doing this for jo reason she wants to live it is sad you should watch more of her backstory and plus she dies for the kids
mann if my school hasn't blocked every single extension on the computers i would have raised 1000 dollars with the amount of tabs i open every day (i have tabs with 100 tabs in them and theres 12 tabs so i have abt 1200 tabs)
"Perks of having asthma" ok then, never thought I'd see that here! Glad to see how well you're able to handle it! I'm struggling with a lot of the same stuff you are: the eczema, severe allergies, and yes, asthma symptoms from said allergies. These are the kinds of videos that I enjoy cause it shows that there are other people that have experienced or are experiencing the same thing you are and understand the struggle, and it's really uplifting to hear it from someone first hand.
I have sever asthma and I relate to almost everything in this video, a lot of people around me don't get it, and say I'm 'faking' it and just wanted to get out of activities, when in reality I really wanted to do those activities. I still get judged to this day and people still 'don't believe I have asthma' and its really hard, but this video makes me feel less alone and that someone else understands than just my family. so thank you.
I sometimes have the same problem I have severe athsma too but everyone at my school don’t really understand what I go through because one time this rat said WHEN I WAS RUNNING (i don’t run much because of my athsma) said “look she’s actually running” I wanted to punch him in the throat and say THATS HOW IT FELLS TO HAVE ATHSMA so ya
I really appreciate you posting this, this is the first time someone has accurately depicted being an asthma patient in the media. Though I never really saw myself as a victim, I developed severe depression as a young child because I was different than everyone else, and there was hardly a moment when my body wasn’t a concern. It sucks when something as taken for granted as your lungs, don’t work. I just wanted to be a normal kid!!! Great video, I hope you’re doing well and your asthma is managed!!
I feel this but for me it sucked young but then as I got older it was my excuse to get out of running and the pacer test but now I'm in welding and I have to were a breathing respirator and in the only one who has one but im used to it
Buster Baxter from the Arthur cartoon is asthmatic. They did an episode about it and the victim narrative surrounding it. I know this is small but it’s something.
I can’t stop laughing because of the anime characters in the background I even chocked on my gum when I saw Isabella from the promised Neverland. I’m still laughing. I’m happy he’s not 12 yet- and by the way I love it how you put a lot of different anime shows into the background and detail it makes me very happy for some reason. You did an amazing job even tho every TH-cam video of yours is amazing and I really admire your style
Well illy isn’t the one putting the anime characters (i think she isn’t that into anime either lol) her background artist is the one putting the anime references and stuff so thank her :). The background artists link is in the description btw
As a sick kid this really made me feel better I use to constantly be at the doctors office and was constantly sick on top of asthma but my parents didn't really believe I had asthma even tho my doctors would constantly say that... I'm glad I got all the other stuff treated but really wish I could of not constantly choked on air I'm much better know because iv literally had everything and my asthma has gotten way better! (Also love all the anime references)
ASTHMA GANG LETS GO. Glad to hear you have a story I can relate to. I did swimming throughout my childhood and it really helped my lungs. I also had Pneumonia to the point where my lungs popped. Great job with another cool story.
My parents, if asked which one of their 3 children is “the sick one,” it’d be be me. Back when I was young (Pre-K to kindergarten) I had frequent stomach viruses that came at the worst times, sometimes even during school. My mom remembers me having visible popped blood vessels in my eyes cause I threw up so much, and I remember the many times my mom brought my siblings to school with me still in the car, the nights I slept in the living room unable to sleep since I was both extremely thirsty and sick, and having to drink sprite since that wouldn’t make me throw up (causing my disdain for sprite later on.) It was awful, but thankfully I’ve grown out of that and now I rarely get sick (I say as I’m having bad allergies lately.)
Well thank God you grew out of it that sounds like shit I feel the allergies tho it's like just last year they had me on some stuff that worked great kept me outside all that good stuff but now my allergies somehow kicked up and nothing works
Dude same when I was in pre-k and kindergarten I'd always have the stomach bug and just disappeared when I was in first grade at first my dad didnt even believe cuz I didnt like school at all and then when I older and talking to a teacher who used to teach my older cousin he had the exact same thing
@@Idk38193 Yeah I’m allergic to pollen, very common down here in the south, so this time of year usually sucks for me. Before last month or so, I wasn’t having any problems. But then it came back with the force of a truck. What made it suck even more was me and my family were about to go on vacation to Jackson Hole and my allergy problems persisted the entire week we were there, and arguably got even WORSE. I’m doing better now since I got some medicine from the doctor though.
I went to Type one diabetes camp as a kid and I loved it! We had so many fun activities and learned how to manage our diabetes and even all the counselors had diabetes too so being around SO many kids and adults like me made me feel normal and unashamed to check my blood sugar and take shots in public. It was a really important experience for me
That’s so lucky! I personally had a really bad experience at diabetes camp. I was hiking with my cabin and they didn’t bring the glucagon and a kid passed out and had a seizure and… she didn’t make it back. She was 8 years old and she died because of a stupid irresponsible mistake by a 16 year old. It was honestly really traumatic and it haunts me to this day. I don’t think I could ever go back (also they were super bad at managing diabetes and I was 27.6 or something like that for the majority of the day).
@@trudy_raibmon I am so sorry to hear that. I can't believe they could be so irresponsible. I think at my camp typically each child had their own glucagon on hand even when we were doing strenuous activities like that and I always carry one with me when I'm out just in case. That must've been so scary for you. I'm really glad now they have glucagon in nasal spary form so it's small enough to fit in your pocket and really easy for anyone to use
I think it really cool to see another persons point of view on asthma, when I have really bad but instead of not doing sports my teachers and friends would help me calm down and relax! And I am a very athletic person! I love your videos illy they are so amazing 🤩
I have a chronic eye condition, so I struggle to see things far away. My eyes get tired a lot and I have to take lots of breaks in school. It’s always been really frustrating not being able to do the things other people can do.I’m glad there are so many people who understand being the “sick kid”.
@@enzymes8625 Not necessarily. Near-sightedness can be just a symptom of something more extreme. For example both my brother and I are near-sighted, but his vision is actually deteriorating quite a bit due to an issue with the muscles and lenses in his eyes, so will have to get surgery for it. Glasses do help both of us, but he’ll need that additional treatment to keep what vision he has.
As a fellow illness induced asthma gurlie- one of my favorite memories was when my mom and siblings where on vacation, so it was just me and my dad. I had the biggest asthma attack like ever, could barely breathe, so god 'ol pops took me to the ER. 3 hours of the food channel and a hour long nebulizer later, I got to go home and eat taco bell with my dad. Awsome memory- ened great- taco bell fixes everything-
my dad had covid this years christmas with atshma and couldnt get his medication when he needed it because his medical report ONLINE weirdly dissapeared somehow i am still amazed that he survived and even didnt need to go to a clinic or even a hospital edit: he luckily got his medication soon
Thank you so much for making this video! I’m an epileptic patient and there have been so many times where I had stuck out my tongue at my medication and thought “ This won’t heal me! None of my friends have to do this! I WILL HEAL MYSELF! “ ( side note: didn’t work ) but it’s really nice to relate to you and giggle about what we can’t change but remembering how strong we are. We are unique, not inferior
i dont even know what it is about illy. her content is just so much different than other creators and i love how it talks about real life stuff that deserves to be talked about and taught about to others while incorporating humor and a sense of personality. i love this channel and i think ive watched all her videos at least seven times each in the past few months. illy deserves everything and more!!!!
I can relate to being the “sick kid”. I have diabetes, it’s genetic. It’s really hard and annoying to maintain. I have to wash my glass after lunch every single time, while the others get to draw. *I am not okay, the school treats me differently and treat me like I might die at any moment just because I felt tired that day.*
I’m a type one diabetic and other people treating you differently is relatable, when I was younger a it was some kids birthday and their mom brought cupcakes, she found out I was a diabetic and purposely skipped me. I also remember my nurse didn’t manage my diabetes at all well, my blood sugar would always go low because she always miscalculated my medication as well as the school not allowing me to do fun Fridays with the other kids :/
I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot which is a heart defect. My childhood was okay, I didn't really understood why I had to see a cardiologist every 2 years, all I knew I was born with a hole in my heart. Now the last few years I been seeing her every year... Having an MRI, Pulmonary test, and exercise every year. I slowly started getting worst, I get out of breath easily, I don't have much energy and I get tons of chest pain that even pain medications can't stop. I learn I am gonna have to deal with this my whole life, I will need multiple surgeries for my whole life just so I can have a working valve. The complications are also not fun, knowing that I can get heart failure, heart disease, and all these no fun things SCARE me. But despite having a weak heart and having limitations now (Right now we are watching me for surgery, I might get it in the next few years) it wont stop me from doing what I want to do and work in medicine. Like yeah I'm gonna have good times and bad times, there may be times that I feel like there a 1000 pound brick just sitting on my chest slowly crushing me, I will most likely get expensive ass medical bills, and I may not live as long due to the complications I can get but I will make the most of out of it. I want to move to Japan and study medicine while having 2 cats name Peanut and Jelly and that is my goal in life.
All I want to do is write something sweet and encouraging because wooow that sounds hard but all I can think about is begging you to get a third cat named Sandwich...
@@farehabodla From my research if I want to take both my current cats to Japan it about a 6 month process because they need to make sure the cats doesn't have rabies. I actually just started my journey to Japan! I am pretty excited.
Dude the ending was so disappointing. I haven’t read the manga but I’m guessing they continued the story after everyone except our three characters went to the human world. I really wanted to see their adventures and how they fixed the demon world, but instead we got a slide show that vaguely covered the things they did. I’m also kinda sad that Ray didn’t get more screen time near the ending of season 2, he’s an interesting character and would have loved to see more of Ray and Emma.
Ive never had asthma, but when I was about seven I had this thing called “night terrors”. It was basically a mix of sleep walking/talking, sleep paralysis, insomnia because I was terrified of my dreams, and while I was having an episode I would uncontrollably vomit. It was hell for my parents, and my siblings thought I was possessed because it happened every night for 3 months. I don’t remember it happening more than three times but my dad has 50+ recordings saved on a hardrive from most of the nights that it happened. My mom still refuses to believe it was anything more than a stomach flu, but I have the mental scar to prove it.
Same, I feel you, eventually grew out of it but went on for maybe 8-10 years I had a mild episode of them coming back in my late teens but only for a few months and not nearly as bad, the absolute worst, that stuff really does scar you, I'm 28 now and I still remember so much of them, the sickness, the uncontrollable crying and shaking, the fear because I didn't know what was happening and being too scared to sleep, Even the bizarre dreams that made no sense when it was happening, It stays with you. Crazy stuff, Sorry to hear that.
...I'm so sorry for you. What's with mom's ignoring stuff like that, or brushing it under the rug. Mine did the same thing... ignored the fact that her daughter had severe mental and physical delays and now I get to pay the price as an adult...
I was born as an extreme preme, and I had loads of problems as a baby. when I was 6 momths old, I flatlined for 5 minutes. Shoutout to all the docs that helped saved my life as a baby.
I can relate to this story. I also have asthma and it took until 4th grade when the skin on my feet were completely cracked for me to realize I had asthma. I didn't like the medicine at first, but soon got use to it. I have also suffered pneumonia in 7th grade. It wasn't bad enough for me to be hospitalized though, but I still felt a bit weak and ever since the covid pandemic started it was scary for people like us. This has really inspired me some and I want to thank you so much for that! Also, I'm North Carolinian as well! Stay awesome!
I went to Diabetes Camp weirdly enough!😂 I loved it and didn’t think much about it being for diabetics! Though that might be because most of the learning came more from how we all needed to be consistently monitored. I learned more by listening to my camp mates talk to the nurses and counselors than my doctors! They did some health class stuff but it was mostly fun! Like they would blow up this maze that represented different parts and systems of the body that were affected. It was like that episode of the Magic School Bus! My main problem was always food. As an autistic kid with a strict diet it went about as well as you can imagine.
I completely forgot she had eczema. I’m glad that she is a TH-camr that has a lot of things in common with me. She’s like the only TH-camr that is relatable
Life hack: "forget" to take your inhaler before PE class and have an asthma attack, you may laugh but I haven't done the pacer test since like 2nd grade
Epileptic here. Just here to say that i loved this vid! While living with a disability can be hard and even somewhat demoralizing at times, it’s nice to see other people making the best out of our unique situations!
Excellent presentation, growing up I was never a fan of perfume or cologne. In my late 30's working in a remote camp after I had gone to sleep my roommate returned from out on the town with a lot of cologne on him. I woke early in the morning and took around 45 minutes to stumble outside half dressed, to hospital, blew about 150 (very red zone), treated until I got to about 450 (for me still yellow zone) and released (the nurses were what? no way!)... Well at healthy I bounce the needle off the end 😜. I became much more sensative to perfumes and colognes and other smelly products, luckily scent free workplace became a thing. Did end up in ER several times down around 300, bit of a pain convincing some doctors that it was a serious asthma attack and not emphazema.
when i was 10 i got diagnosed with scoliosis, and it wasnt your avarage scoliosis. this was MEGA scoliosis. it was a really tough time for me and i dont want to go into details, but im so happy to have access to the care and need i needed (i got surgery). salutations to everyone who has had a similar experience, and even the ones who didnt. no matter what youre struggling with, it needs to be heard. youre special and amazing and you deserve to get better.
*asthma kid* I remember whenever we had to do those stupid pacer tests in school I hated not being able to make it to the "healthy" stage. For anyone who is lucky enough not to do pacer tests you basically have to run back and forth across the gum for as long as possible. Yes, it sucks. The "healthy" stage was 23 or something like that and one year I was determined to be "healthy" that year. So I ran to stage 23. And as soon as I stopped, I had the worst asthma attack I'd ever had. My coaches, who knew about my asthma, just looked at me and said "done coughing?" and told me to sit down. I never felt so embarrassed in my life. I had just accomplished something and they made me feel like crap for it. I hate PE. *End of Rant* Edit: thanks for all the support! I never got much of any at my school and it's nice to know some people care ❤
I also have asthma and I would push myself a lot to get more than 50 and I would almost pass out and I felt like I was dying and would want to give up at 23
i hated pe so much as a kid, i was terrible at sports and always got out of class via doctors notes because i was really susceptible to attacks, and i barely had any friends because of that since pe and sports was a huge thing at my school
@@cherryhead006 yeah. Unfortunately my pediatrician did not think I was severe enough to constitute sitting out of pe or even to carry an inhaler. I had to go to an allergist so someone could sign the self carry form for me. And every year I would have to take the same training course with the nurse: "This is how you properly use an inhaler, don't give your inhaler away, don't take your inhaler in front of other kids." Like, yes I know not to give other kids drugs, this inhaler is mine.
I feel you. I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and I went back to school feeling weak, because I couldn't do P.E to make sure I didn't faint, 3 teachers 'helping' me with the things I knew about and I'm so glad I left that sh!tty school
As a kid with type one diabetes and adrenal deficiency, this video means a lot to me. I was really able to relate to your experiences with the ICU and all the medications. Thank you so much for the video!
As a fat kid who turned out to have a under active thyroid I kinda relate to some points. I was never in ICU, but it took over a year to get diagnosed, and now as a seventeen year old, nine years later I’m still traumatised 🥲✌🏻. I didn’t understand why I had to take tablets but it never bothered me. My mam still gets infuriated at my doctor who’d call her a bad parent, it got to the point me who was like ten years old having panic attacks when I had to get weighed. That doctor has had many complaints to social workers. But yeh, having a under active thyroid isn’t that bad, apart from the annoying ass tablets that take forever to swallow and taste worse than shit covered with sugar. I feel bad for you though. Thank you for reading this far, I wanted to tell somebody but I have no one to tell. N like I have a lot of emotions but I hide them so it comes out during rambles like this.
As a “sick kid “ with bad allergies (I’m literally allergic to everything)and digestion issues I feel you. Earlier this year I was in the hospital for appendicitis and it sucked it hurt to move or to stand or to even use the restroom so yeah loved this video
my mom has, too many health problems, and is allergic to everything, and has add, and adhd- she is just a health anomoly (and she has some heart thing she was born with)
My asthma was never that severe, it’s exercise induced. The nerdiest thing ever lmao. But when I was younger it was pretty bad. I live in Virginia and it is so hilly, and what happens every time I go up a hill? Boom, my lungs are burning and I can’t breathe

: (
Well thank God you grew out of it that sounds like shit I feel the allergies tho it's like just last year they had me on some stuff that worked great kept me outside all that good stuff but now my allergies somehow kicked up and nothing works
It’d me and my youngest siblings 🕺🏻💃🏽
I think I had more cause I’m older and lived longer to experience
My little bro have diabetes and it wasn't easy. However he managed to keep it under control by checking what he eats and blood sugar.

I remember whenever we had to do those stupid pacer tests in school I hated not being able to make it to the "healthy" stage. I hate PE.

The texturized shading in this is really cool
