You can get into the middle of charred fortresses by digging to the bottom of the wall as far as you can go and then angling yourself toward the middle. You may need to break some of the hard stone, but not as much as on the ground. Then dig a little more (just enough for you to fit, not all of it) and you can jump up (wearing feather cape) and get the loot. Also, they seem to be well protected from shooting lava. I have a few fortresses where I setup my non-stone portal inside the middle and they have not taken any damage, negating the need for shields.
Is the sledge to find silver veins really that effective. I feel like the additional time it would take checking each square inch of a mountain even if you account for the blast radius is not worth it.
I mean it's definitely slower than having the wishbone but the benefit of not killing bonemass is that you don't have to deal with wolf raids or drake raids as a result
Dvergr camps I like to clear out with soldiers, most of the camps are in really bad places for a base for me so I just have the native creatures deal with it, or I use the Dvergr to kill the ants for me. The Dvergr make good little guards so in optimal locations I like to keep them alive. And there's several ways to destroy the ward, ramming it with any mobile or rolling object works, incidental damage from Eitr works, Ants work but it's a bit finicky to get the dvergr in the right place for the ant to attack (unless you get an aoe one in there), trolls also work, but you'd have to get the dvergr attacking the ants first so they're occupied to get a troll in the base. And I'm sure with fire spread on you could lay out some flammable stuff to get it inside to damage the ward. I haven't tried just holding a torch near it yet, not sure if that actually counts as fire damage without the swinging action... In most cases, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is the best strategy. Using another creature or enemy to do your bidding is always acceptable and never cheating (we've been doing that in war since the beginning of time). I've only ever beaten the bosses once, just to see what it was like. Since the beginning of early access I've only played no-boss kill runs. It's a lot more satisfying trying to exist without relying on boss buffs or items. Unfortunately there is at least 1 item that you require from a boss (don't remember what it is) that you can't progress without. So I just transfer that item from another save like the devs intended ;)
Missed opportunity #1 (?): hauling a longship's worth of metal cargo to the base can be done in a breeze by using harpoon and PvP. Require two players though, so not for single play scenario. One player grabs fully loaded cart or, even better, fills their personal inventory with the cargo as much as number of free slots allows. Encumbered will not be a problem. It is, in fact, expected here. Both players then activate PvP. The player not being encumbered will then harpoon the first player and can, quite easily, drag the other one with him/her. The encumbered state only affects the player carrying the cargo, not the one dragging using the harpoon. Two things are likely needed in preparation for this operation: If the distance to base is covered with obstacles you might have to prepare it some in order not to get stuck while dragging (don't overdo it, but if the same distance will be used repeatedly it will be obvious if it is needed). Also, the one dragging the other might want to prepare stamina drain counter measures too - depending on distance to base etc. This technique, with or without cart, can be used to drag huge amounts silver from the mountains (hey, it's downhill...) as well as a ships heavy cargo to the base - in a single run. Word of caution: don't forget to disable PvP afterwards - at least if your team players are sneaky bastards that enjoy a friendly sucker punch or PvP kill when you're done hauling. ;)
Arguable whether or not this is a cheat, but plains islands are definitely OP for farming plains resources completely safely. Find a plains biome island that's got a full ocean block between it and the nearest continent, clear out all enemies and structures, terraform it to a flat surface, cultivate and workbench it, and other than flying raids you are completely covered.
About tip 20: U can do it without fire hazard. Drop a portal in ashalnds. Whenever comet hits the ground and starts small fire just put wood stacks in that place.
I like to use the hoe in the meadows to level ground from below the Viking ship graves to expose the chest. It’s really quick and doesn’t require any fancy equipment.
The problem with those "cheats" (more like bug abuse tbh) is that they're either super fun (like killing Eikthyr with campfire), or super boring (like killing Bonemass on the top of a plateform. It's better to have the thrill of actually being in danger and threatened to kill, much more dopamine
Great video man as a solo player who struggled through the entire story the late stage bosses you really need to cheese the first couple times to learn I swear some of these bosses are sooooo hard.
Logs rammed into trees cause damage to both the log and tree, repeat until desired tree is broken. Can easily get wood types a lot earlier than you should be able to
I take care of bonemass on risen ground. On top a portal for going home and the stagbreaker equipped. If the hammer gets low on durability I just port home, repair and return. Only damage I receive is poison which can be lowered by potions. Also you could or maybe still can do all of this in the skull itself. Just go in it with a chair, mark the outer border to not step out. But never go to the mouth of the skull. You might get stuck and need to teleport out of it
Using a game mechanic to your advantage is knowledge and skill, using a bug like the chair method is cheating although it is fairplay if you are doing a speedrun - in that case everything is on the table. That being said I would like some things changed like firedamage dps on bosses being limited from sources like the campfire, corpserun being available only once after death and small things like that, but I'd say these changes aren't really neccessary
First time in valheim i figure out that you can cut down harder trees with other trees. And you can roll trees on each other again and again to break them into wood. Without using axe(beside choping normal trees down).
You can also use Refined Eitr to break the wards without angering the dwarves but, the cart seems much more efficient. ...once you get it in the door. 😉
I rushed Ashlands to get Molten Cores. Only beat Eikthyt and ran with Root Armor. It’s doable, but was super difficult. Prospecting and mine clipping for the win!
Using Trolls to dig up copper and chop down trees is not cheating. I have done plenty of playthroughs digging out loads of copper. I do not enjoy that any longer so I'd rather have the Troll do it. He's fantastic.
Overall, games are about having fun and that matters more than whether you are cheating or not. Here are my opinions though, Devcommands are cheats for sure, lol. A lot of this stuff is playing the game as intended though. IMO, logging out and back in would be a cheat since logging in and out to affect the game isn't part of normal game play.
Great take. I completely agree. I like to support people any way they like to play. So are these cheats? its super subjective and surely each person will have a different opinion
My take is that everyone is entitled to play single player, or coop/non-competitive multiplayer games how they want, even using glitches and exploits as long as they're not griefing. In such games, you set your own limits. But I've got absolutely zero tolerance for cheating or using exploits in games where you compete with or fight other players. A win only counts when it's fair and square.
You know, you have an even less risky method than hiring a troll to get fine wood before the bronze axe: just cut down a normal tree and repeatedly roll the logs against a birch tree to take it down... 😜
Just Got back at playing Valheim about a week ago. Started all over again due to my world being corrupted for not playing for years. (plain was still the last biome then) Given the brutal nature of this game. these exploits would come in handy for your survival. I might also add. if you want to level up your bow skill. Do that bonemass exploit, pop a portal connected to base to stock up on arrows, use a crude bow and wooden arrow and just hit bonemass with it. It would be grindy but it's all worth it because having a high bow skill would decrease the draw time of the bow and let you release arrows quickly. And.. Fuck that honey. Been playing for 70 hrs and haven't found any of it.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming yeah, no luck but I found huge meadows biome with multiple draugr villages. I think I'm gonna find some honey there. It is also connected with swap biome where bonemass is located, got lucky coz there was a surtling spawner at the shore, touching the waters. Saves me time to find them and do the farming exploit, plus very near is a sunken crypt where I built my out post.

So why would you want to skip Bonemass when he yields the absolute best Forsaken Power. being able to take reduced physical damage is a such a game changer allowing you take fights you normally wouldnt risk. like say taking on a 2* Fuling Berserker. To this day, i dont think ive encountered a 2* berserker, encountered numerous 1* but that 2* has been elusive.
One time i failed to use camp fires for the elder fight and had to kill it using the dense trees were the only attack possible was the range one, which the trees blocked
yes thats a good one. But you need to destroy a ward to even get the thing that allows you to collect sap which is required to make eitr in the first place
I mean, this is great and all. I love that people are figuring these things out. ( I like all of your videos and subscribe to you, keep it up love it! ) But I have to say, how much more work is this than just beating the boss and working ahead as "normal" ? Not all, but a lot of this seems like a lot more work than even just killing the boss, or using the tools intended. They don't seem like cheating to me because I feel like I can just take a good ol' weapon or a tool (pick axe, dowsing rod) into it and have a go and while people are using all of these fancy methods I'm not sure it'd really be even quicker. Using the rod instead of pounding away with a 2H hammer all over the mountains most people could just kill the boss in that amount of time and gain more materials. My 2 cents. It's not cheating, it's wasting time imo lol.
tell u right now, you learn alot of these tricks when you turn the combat difficulty up. games brutal lol xD but started to get boring without turning it up
Hitting enemies and objects through terrain with the sledges has gotten me so much mileage since valheim first dropped, super busted stratagy all around
The Trolls being able to destroy Beech trees and ore veins is obviously intended by the devs, otherwise their attacks wouldn't have any chop/pick damage of a high enough tier.
it could be. I dont think they expected players to deliberately use them to mine/chop resources though but it does make sense they can damage the environment around them
After spending about four frustrating hours one night doing blind parkour around three continents of mistlands looking for a giant skull, I decided it wasn't worth playing fair. I went back to base and used devcommands to spawn a few hundred soft tissue. And while I appreciate the toughness of a survival game and having to sneak back to regain your stuff when you die. I just don't have that kind of time. I can hit F5 and type god, ghost, and fly and get it done in a couple minutes.
-Trolls as free labor: I'm so proud of folks for figuring this one out; pretty sure I was one of the earliest pioneers after Valheim's release. Trolls are our friends! -Dumb deer: Meh, honestly I don't find deer hunting to be all that bad. Not worth carrying around all the extra stuff, IMHO. -Hammer sheathing: yeah this one works but with some experience you can prevent the need altogether. -Abom hitboxes: LOL yeah, I've done this plenty of times. Eventually you develop the timing and confidence to just dodge or block but this definitely bridges the gap. -Chairs: I knew about the crypt but the rock? Yeah, that one is a LITTLE cheaty at least... -Cutscenes: didn't know about this one. Does feel kinda cheap but sometimes the game deserves a middle finger. I'LL ALLOW IT! -Swamp boss cheese: well the name says it all, doesn't it? the multi-tombstone hack is clever but yeah, I'm gonna say a big ol "QUESOOOOOOOO!" to this one, especially since you're throwing away a ton of XP in your skills to do this. -Hoe is OP: yes. Yes it is. I never leave home without it. -Moder/yag cheese: yeah this one's an old trick. A little lame but a valid use of the terrain I suppose. Not much fun though. -"early" egg: the sealed tower is still in the plains so I wouldn't call that very "early" but whatever works. -Dvergr houses: Interesting! Never thought to try cart ramming. -Avoid damage with logout: okay now THIS one really IS just cheating. That's not even using a game mechanic; that's stepping outside the game. That's what roleplayers would call "metagaming" and it's lame. The fact that you lose buffs seems fair punishment for this cheese. Haven't played into the Ashlands yet so I'll stop there for now; I still want to actually discover some things myself. Lots of interesting tidbits though.

Then dig a little more (just enough for you to fit, not all of it) and you can jump up (wearing feather cape) and get the loot.
Also, they seem to be well protected from shooting lava. I have a few fortresses where I setup my non-stone portal inside the middle and they have not taken any damage, negating the need for shields.
nice! i haven't tried digging that deeply! interesting
Is the sledge to find silver veins really that effective. I feel like the additional time it would take checking each square inch of a mountain even if you account for the blast radius is not worth it.
I mean it's definitely slower than having the wishbone but the benefit of not killing bonemass is that you don't have to deal with wolf raids or drake raids as a result
its really useful. it basically lets you skip the iron age i got enough iron for a pick and a new boat then went and got full silver gear
So I just transfer that item from another save like the devs intended ;)
agreed with everything you said!
Word of caution: don't forget to disable PvP afterwards - at least if your team players are sneaky bastards that enjoy a friendly sucker punch or PvP kill when you're done hauling. ;)
great tip!
Arguable whether or not this is a cheat, but plains islands are definitely OP for farming plains resources completely safely. Find a plains biome island that's got a full ocean block between it and the nearest continent, clear out all enemies and structures, terraform it to a flat surface, cultivate and workbench it, and other than flying raids you are completely covered.
agreed, great idea
About tip 20: U can do it without fire hazard. Drop a portal in ashalnds. Whenever comet hits the ground and starts small fire just put wood stacks in that place.
yes 100%
the trick with the chair... is just insane :)
glad you enjoyed!
I like to use the hoe in the meadows to level ground from below the Viking ship graves to expose the chest. It’s really quick and doesn’t require any fancy equipment.
thats pretty cool. I've never tried that
Im almost not a cheater
After you've played a couple of thousand hours, you're going to get really bored with the wood chopping game.
me neither
100%
The comment is corrected now
The problem with those "cheats" (more like bug abuse tbh) is that they're either super fun (like killing Eikthyr with campfire), or super boring (like killing Bonemass on the top of a plateform. It's better to have the thrill of actually being in danger and threatened to kill, much more dopamine
Yep. Nobody has to do them if they don't want to
Great video man as a solo player who struggled through the entire story the late stage bosses you really need to cheese the first couple times to learn I swear some of these bosses are sooooo hard.
glad you enjoyed it!
Logs rammed into trees cause damage to both the log and tree, repeat until desired tree is broken. Can easily get wood types a lot earlier than you should be able to
yes! it just takes SO long
This video is how prehistoric humans hunted mamooths and other big animals: exploit their primitive AI and use game (life) physics to your advantage
facts
I take care of bonemass on risen ground. On top a portal for going home and the stagbreaker equipped. If the hammer gets low on durability I just port home, repair and return. Only damage I receive is poison which can be lowered by potions.
Also you could or maybe still can do all of this in the skull itself. Just go in it with a chair, mark the outer border to not step out. But never go to the mouth of the skull. You might get stuck and need to teleport out of it
Oh interesting I have never tried using the chair trick on a skill. Great idea!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming You can also use them on the big tress around. That can make your live in the first hours of the swamp pretty easy🤘🏻
Using a game mechanic to your advantage is knowledge and skill, using a bug like the chair method is cheating although it is fairplay if you are doing a speedrun - in that case everything is on the table.
That being said I would like some things changed like firedamage dps on bosses being limited from sources like the campfire, corpserun being available only once after death and small things like that, but I'd say these changes aren't really neccessary
really good takes. I pretty well agree with you across the board
You can also make coal by hitting log pile with a torch
that works too. Still assuming you have the fire hazard setting enabled
It doesn't work in vr
@@GIVEMEACID for real?
First time in valheim i figure out that you can cut down harder trees with other trees. And you can roll trees on each other again and again to break them into wood. Without using axe(beside choping normal trees down).
you sure can!
I play over 100h on release, is there enough new stuff to play again?
100% they have added two new biomes and a bunch of changes to the food system and more
@@ericsilva7430 1300 hours and counting. 🤣
You can also use Refined Eitr to break the wards without angering the dwarves but, the cart seems much more efficient. ...once you get it in the door. 😉
correct
I rushed Ashlands to get Molten Cores. Only beat Eikthyt and ran with Root Armor. It’s doable, but was super difficult. Prospecting and mine clipping for the win!
man that sounds TOUGH
@@SpazzyjonesGaming it was hair raising. But now, it’s super easy to move resources :) Can now make my ultimate base.
@@CrayZtwin1 lets go!
Using Trolls to dig up copper and chop down trees is not cheating. I have done plenty of playthroughs digging out loads of copper. I do not enjoy that any longer so I'd rather have the Troll do it. He's fantastic.
agreed. it is the way!
yeah it just takes wayy too long IMO
Just spawnedth 'em w/ console - the game starts on Plains anyways, until then base size is unknown/impossible to layout.
i don't blame ya
Regarding birch trees you can also fell and break down birch by rolling logs into them.
Absolutely. Good one
Been playing for 70 hrs and haven't found any of it.
you haven't found honey? thats wild
@@SonnyReduja wild. honey is uncommon but not THAT rare.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I already found beehives, I found 7 of them in the new huge meadows that I found while I was looking for a mountain biome and yes, beside the meadow there was a mountain but I don't know if it is huge.

UNREAL!!! Some of these are F(&((&^ GENIUS! Amazing video. Building the base inside a huge boulder is insane! LMAO!!!!
I'm subbing....great video
Glad you enjoyed man!
Glad you liked it my dude
So why would you want to skip Bonemass when he yields the absolute best Forsaken Power. being able to take reduced physical damage is a such a game changer allowing you take fights you normally wouldnt risk. like say taking on a 2* Fuling Berserker. To this day, i dont think ive encountered a 2* berserker, encountered numerous 1* but that 2* has been elusive.
The main reason is to avoid the wolf raid. If you never bear bonemass you never enable that and the drake raids
@@SpazzyjonesGaming This one is actually such a good idea. Especially for no death runs. Thanks Spazzy.
I started using dev commands for food. Making good food is far to time consuming in the late game and it should last longer.
thats fair
cool spazzy, ill implement and experiment them in my other world, just letting you know, im almost at ashlands.
nice! good luck, definitely some cool tricks to mess around with in here
@@SpazzyjonesGaming cheating is pretty cool tho... for me only when im bored playing in the casual way
@@ghoulhahahaj legit
One time i failed to use camp fires for the elder fight and had to kill it using the dense trees were the only attack possible was the range one, which the trees blocked
adapt, improvise, overcome!
a better alternative for breaking dvergr wards later in is dropping refined eitr next to them and just wait
yes thats a good one.
Fair. The main reason for skipping bonemass is you avoid moders raids like the wolf and drake raids which can be nice. Especially the wolf raid
tell u right now, you learn alot of these tricks when you turn the combat difficulty up. games brutal lol xD but started to get boring without turning it up
so true. Many of these i learned from doing exactly that
Hitting enemies and objects through terrain with the sledges has gotten me so much mileage since valheim first dropped, super busted stratagy all around
Absolutely. It's hella strong
Totally fair
I'll have to upgrade to the trolcavator, I'm still using ye'old treeroller that my friends and I came up with on launch.
yes! its much faster
In the words of The Fat Electrician "the militaries motto is: if you're not cheating you're not trying"
Word to live by
-Trolls as free labor: I'm so proud of folks for figuring this one out; pretty sure I was one of the earliest pioneers after Valheim's release. Trolls are our friends!
-Dumb deer: Meh, honestly I don't find deer hunting to be all that bad. If you're looking and listening for them, hitting them isn't all that hard; just make sure you're not downhill so you're not fighting gravity and the terrain.
-Hammers: yep, this one works just fine, though I rarely use hammers myself.
-Build in combat: nah, I prefer the excitement of actual fighting, but go for it.
-Secret weapon: ehhhhhh, fires don't do THAT much damage unless you can keep the enemy burning for a good while.
Lots of interesting tidbits though.
thanks!
does campfire and bonfire work to make coal aswell?
I believe it does. like if you place a wood stack next to a bonfire/campfire it will eventually catchfire and turn to coal
Had you left out the devcommands, you could have gone with a fancier title, like "I am a fromage connoisseur."
Missed opportunity
I first learned to use campfires as weapons in the mountains against wolves by accident. 😂

Heck ya ! Glad I could share one new thing
I always struggle with the timing of the trolls that carry logs. I always seem to get hit by their attacks compared to the ones without logs who cannot hit me at all.
oh man. the troll logs are WAYY worse than those without IMO
Log trolls require i-frames to dodge a lot of times. It was either their left or right swing that was basically unavoidable except through rolling.
You can also use other logs to chop fine wood
yes just slow
This is not cheating, it is just knowledge. how and were u use it defines if it is cheating. tks for the vid, will share :)

You can use fire and bang trees together too. Lot safer
fire? do you use a torch? i have knocked them together but haven't tried using fire much
