I like how the different damage types work, makes it hard to become over-reliant on any single weapon. Honestly its awesome how the game doesnt absolutely limit you to certain weapons/combat styles but makes you act tactically about them. I end up usually carrying 2-3 melee weapons that I find complement each other well + a bow/arbalest, and then ooze/bile bombs and/or multiple spears for throwing if I'm preparing for a big fight. No single weapon is best for every situation (though swords make a pretty good jack-of-all-trades imo.) So it's good to have a variety at the ready
I'm a big fan of that too. I think it's one of the greatest strengths of the game. I have really enjoyed running around with the himminafl but having magic staffs to swap to. Much fun!
One thing the video could do with is an explanation of WHY Spirit is the oddball of the elemental damage types: Only Undead-type mobs can take Spirit damage. Nothing else. If you're going to trudge through the Swamps, Spirit goes from least useful to very useful. Likewise that burn effect brings the a fully upgraded Silver Sword up to par with a fully upgraded Black Metal Sword (if swords are your jam) against Yagluth since he has the undead flag set. Another feather in the Mistwalker's cap is in addition to the utility from Frost and Spirit damage, it lives up to its description of "seems to slice through the mists" as it does push the Mistlands fog back in a 6 to 8-ish meter diameter bubble around your character, making it the only equippable way to do so other than the Bound Wisp... So after you die, grabbing your stuff and pulling your sword will give you a little bit of visibility while you try to get into a spot to get your other gear back on again.
Excellent tips! Yes, someone else pointed out the silver sword to me too. I think I have underrated it. Also good point on the mistwalker. The light it emits makes it quite unique
@@SpazzyjonesGaming All good! Spirit got a major fix in v0.204.4 when they fixed its burn effect being removed by being wet, and that's when I started taking note of it's ability to knock undead aside like toys.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming lol nah. Just someone with too much time logged in pretending to be a viking. Started playing right around the time it was starting to really blow up in popularity.
Something I don't think was mentioned is that lightning damage is the only type of elemental damage that contributes to staggering along with physical! Lightning (along with frost damage) deals 1.5x damage to wet targets (they have to be at least waist high in water to get the visual dripping cue, they can't just be rained on like us vikings). This also is a great boon to staggering with the himmin afl as well as its DPS. Something really neat as well is that staggerlocking enemies (re-staggering enemies over and over til they die in a single combo) is much easier than most people think. When enemies are staggered, their stagger bar doesn't reset, it just starts to deplete by 20% per second, and so using the atgeir middle mouse and then following up with the normal atgeir moveset we are able to staggerlock a great deal of enemies! This includes: the troll with a bronze atgeir, starred draugr elite and fuling with the bronze atgeir, fuling berserkers and lox with the black metal but also the iron atgeir at decent levels, seekers with the bronze atgeir or above (seriously), and most notably at the moment seeker soldiers with the himmin afl at fairly high polearm levels, less when said soldier is wet. I can't quite stress how good swapping from an eitr to stamina weapon when one resource is low and the other isn't, given the right situation. The swap from the Staff of Embers to Himmin Afl (and bow + atgeir in the earlier biomes although that combo is just stam) is incredibly strong... Also for some reason along with all the other amazing properties the Embers has it also has 0 aggro radius (so does the Staff of Frost), so you can use a boom stick for ranged stealth strats lol (provided you have good mistlands visibility). If they don't patch this out then actually using the Embers in the Ashlands for said strategies could be really good - or depending on the grouping/resistances or weaknesses the Huntsman bow with its 4 meter aggro radius compared to other bows' 8m could see a return to amazing form. We'll have to see.
Ah, the atgier. I've used it at early levels but never got into higher metals with it. I'm going to have to give it another go. It's a great weapon that doesn't get a lot of respect (including from me). Thanks for this info.
I like the spear a lot in the early game, because of how far you can go without ever having to return to base to repair at a special/upgraded station. It also has a really low stamina cost, high attack rate, and ranged option that made trolls possible to fight. However, the later grade spears were mostly disappointing because they came with very low durability, and unreasonable repair criteria. (Which I understand that all weapons have the same repair criteria at that tier, but they compensated through durability and higher damage per hit) Mace types have been my favorite so far, although they're not perfect for combos versus lightweight enemies because of knockback, they hold up unexpectedly well versus heavy enemies regardless of resistances. It was very refreshing to be able to craft the porcupine and fully upgrade it barely 15 minutes into and after the first Plains expedition. The most important thing for the weapons is pretty much just how easy it is to obtain and craft. Maces take the cake because they rarely need upgrades even in the next level like the Bronze and Iron maces or Frostner. Then Porcupine has the easiest craft out of its tier weapons, plus no next lvl upgrade requirements.
Quite a few people have made arguments for spears and yours is no exception. Maybe I am sleeping on them. I like maces as well with the Pocupine being one of the best. I Appreciate how in Valheim many weapons are viable. it makes for great variety and fun!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Also, spears are fastest weapons to level up, with fast attack and 2.25 xp gain per hit. Other arms have ~0.5 - 1.5 xp gain per hit, if i'm not mistaken.
yep himminafl is absolutely insane. Nothing compares. plus, it just FEELS SO POWERFUL and fun to play with. Summoning lightning in every strike is golden
What is the strongest weapon in this game, i would say it's *skoll and hati* -No movement speed penalty -Low stamina consumption -Cheap to craft -Very fast attack speed -High damage -Has x6 bonus backstab damage to unalerted enemies -Can 2 shot normal fulings and seekers -Can 1 shot almost any unalerted mob in the game with secondary attack -Can be combined with extended/power combo for even higher DPS Of course it's has some cons like short range, can't be held together with a shield makes it hard to parry strong attacks. But with me, all those stats are just incredible.
You make a strong case for it! Its definitely up there. Plus it excels in a fast paced playstyle which I also really enjoy! I also think it has a high skill ceiling. players Who have mastered the movement of Valheim can excel with this weapon
Not being able to use shield with S&H really is hardly a downside with their massive parry bonus. Since enemies mostly have same attack timings, it's really easy to master parry and shield will just slow you down. Fenris armor+S&H is a one of the best armor+weapon combo if not the best.
You can use shield and dagger but in the case of skol and hati you need to raise block skill. I put a character to lvl 89 of block and can manage to parry golem attacks with skol and hati.
Fav weapon is by far the drauger fang bow. And I use fire arrows in most bows until I can add in frost arrows. They seem a bit op, but very useful. I have recently been trying out knives/daggers with a buckler, and really enjoy them so far. Going to be trying out different weapons as I go along and better my game.
Sounds like you're taking a good approach the beauty of valheim is almost all weapons are viable in the right situation. it's worth trying all of them! I really like frost damage too as it also applies a slow effect to your enemies which is very useful
I actually love the spears... Especially in mountains. You just have to get good at aiming with the secondary throw option for enemies that are too small to stab or flying enemies, as well as destroying fenris hair drapes or bodypiles... Put youre cursor a head above what you're aiming at for distance or height, and directly on target for level or down hill... For things on the floor aim at the floor just in front of the object and throw. Just be aware when throwing the spear and picking it back up again to imediately fight with, if youre inventory is full you wont auto pickup the spear and this may cause you to panic. The ability to throw from range, do big damage and charge in to quickly pick up the spear and deliver a quick few stabs all while being a light and nimble weapon and able to hold a shield all at the same time... Is to me OP as hell when you get good at it.
Much agreed, I only recently got into the game but spears have taken my attention heavily. I also use tower shields despite hearing how bad they supposedly are. I run mostly full hp food and just tank a hit and stab twice with the spear. Its a safe way to fight as you dont have to try and parry or anything and the block can reduce damage greatly.
Really appreciate this video. Im trying to prepare for the ashlands and having this breakdown of all the weapons and their damage is great. I didnt realize so many mobs were immune to spirit, or that the fire staff and himminafl were so powerful. Gotta work on my polearm/elemental skills now
Glad you enjoyed it! People are speculating there will be a lot of undead enemies in the Ashlands so spirit damage might be very strong so keep that in mind. I'm thinking of doing some videos specifically on the Ashlands in the future so stay tuned for that!
Heyo! Two things I want to know: 1. What is your fav weapon? 2. What do you think of the audio in this video! I'm really focused on improving it and every piece of feedback helps! Thank you
Heyoh!! You showed up in my JFY. Really like your content and presentation style! Mic volume might be high on mobile speaker (not headphones). I originally had the volume set to 25%. While reading through the comments I tested at 50% then, i thought should say something. Keep up the great work!!
Audio is fine. Scripting and editing is great. Fav weapon question would be a good community question that you can then make a video about the community's opinion. But to answer it here, honestly I dont have one. I Liked the mistwalker a lot. I do like playing with a spear because it has a quick attack rate. Im also biased bc I once lost my gear on the mountain near a spawn with starred wolves. After many many failures, the only gear that worked on the recovery mission was a spear and tower shield.
Thanks @stevebreedlove9760 for your input on the video quality! Fav weapon is a really tough one and I really like your idea of asking the community, I'll see what I can do. I can appreciate your love of the spear. IMO one of the beauties of Valheim is that almost every weapon is viable and each is unique enough with its own benefits in the right situation. I think they did a very good job with them
The Key thing about Valheim is that the first 2 biomes are just introductory. Meadows and Black Forest creatures are very easy compared to Bog, Plains and Mistlands and now Ashlands. Few creatures are resistant to frost and the great thing about Frostner is that it can apply the slow. This is extremely clutch when you are in mistlands or plains where you can be swarmed and attacked by creatures that have a large range.
I love how pretty much any weapon type in Valheim can be on par with its peers if the player is adapted to its fighting style. When I first played the game I really overlooked knives bc so many games make them just weaker swords, but goddamn are they awesome in Valheim I typically do swords as primary / atgeirs secondary bc it seems to be quite versatile and decent in most situations, but I enjoy finding new combat styles/pairings. Knife primary / spears secondary works well for a more mobile fighter while clubs / battleaxes makes for a good tank/crowd-control build (though requires more skill with timing and stamina use). Ppl tend not to like tower shields but I find them really helpful in close quarters like crypts, where you're not missing much by losing speed.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Tower shields definitely require a different combat style than bucklers, which are more versatile. I have to be very selective about when I'm choosing to equip the shield - most of the time it's better unselected, higher mobility than holding buckler but shield isn't needed, then selecting it when I need to tank a lot of damage, and it's a much surer way to absorb damage than bucklers when you need to. Definitely not ideal in places like the Mistlands, but bone tower and serpent shields served me well through much of Valheim's progression fighting that way.
Tradeoff with tower shields imo: + better mobility w/o shield when you need it + better blocking w/ shield when you need it + makes dungeons easier - less mobility w/shield - can't always predict when you'll need a shield or not (weak against ambushes) - less versatile - poor in difficult terrain
I would love a copy of the weapons lists and data that you show in the video. I learn from reading things over and over and your charts are informative.
I recently finished the game with my friends and I was playing as a mage using the full set of staffs and the mage armor I was feeling awesome and so helpful and unique using this set as we were fighting the queen, adding the feather cape with it was so satisfying as well
Soloing mage is annoying in mistlands because he can be easily stunlocked by only two seekers. He simply lacks enemy control features - parry is weak and the shielded skeleton is also weak and getting torn in seconds. The only tool it has is his DPS, but it is not enough either in many situations, especially when there are ≥2 seekers, not mentioning he is useless against gjall. They should've made a precise one-target lightning bolt staff that staggers instead of a useless frostbite SMG (but I understand that it is maybe made for support role in co-op)
I was going to say, definitely strongest in Co-op when you canm have someone else take agrro. it would be cool if they added a wand that would be less powerful than the staff but make you more nimble and quick@@КОМБИНАТ-т1ъ

You where playing like a mage, but u still have to use other weapon,so you are only playing like a mage
I was playing like a mage as an endgame playstyle In valheime you can't just skip the whole process and start playing like a mage I progressed from stone tools all the way to black metal and only then I started playing like a mage because it was fun and different
I'm actually super disappointed by Krom (and I was excited about it pre-mistlands too). It does more dmg than a one handed sword, but it has a slower attk speed, so you're just forfeiting the benefits of shield without really gaining any DPS. And it doesn't have any elemental damage which is really important in the mistlands. And it has the standard muli-target penalty which most two-handed weapons don't have (and also one handed swords as well). Overall, I find it very underwhelming in performance. The ember staff gets my vote as the best Queenslayer weapon. It's basically a ranged sledgehammer and it's bonkers how good it is.
I think those are very fair criticisms. I especially appreciate your point about the standard multi-target penalty. I think it would be waayy more powerful if It didn't have that. I still feel like a badass using it but I agree its not the top of the list for best weapons. Staff of Embers as you mentioned is super busted.
Krom can be OP if used properly. It's my fav weapon since I can take down few ticks with one swing and its decent range is helpful with seekers cause I can hit them first and stagger them. Yet still I do NOT recommend it for players with swords skill under 50.
While spears are a bit clunky with its normal attacks, the throwing attack makes up for it. If used correctly, the throwing attack can trivialize so many enemies in the game, its actually a much better ranged weapon early on compared to bows which requires some leveling up for them to start being busted, and to top it off, spears are great for early game hunting!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming at first it is but becomes basically second nature after chucking spears for hours. I also didn't really like spears too much until I just decided to to do a playthrough with them after a friend of mines told me not to sleep on it.
1:38 correct me if I'm wrong but the values are not representing more damage but rather the multiplier for the base damage. 150% more damage of 100 base damage would grant a total of 250 damage while a multiplier of 150% on 100 base damage would grant a total of 150 damage
I can't say for sure if you're right or wrong but will give my interpretation. If your base damage is 100 and you hitting a creature that is weak to your damage type (150%) you would do 50% more damage so 150%. 250 damage seems like WAYY too much and doesn't seem to fit with my experience.
As a novice player I really liked spears for their slightly higher range in the early game and option to throw it. And quick animations. Every time I have a difficult mob and a lot of space I run around them throwing spears at them and that allows me to get through difficult situations despite my bad parrying. (And also in my hands it generally works better than bows as a ranged option... I am a bad archer) I'm still only in black forest however so I wouldn't be surprised if later that style would fall off.
That's fair. You make a very good point with the quick animations that I think I generally overlook. In my experience I first started finding them more annoying in the swamp so we will have to see how you make out
Here are my favorite Weapons for each Stage of the game Meadows: I like Club and Flint Spear the most here, not much Meadow weapon stuff to talk about. Black Forest: There are 3 Great weapons for me - Bronze Axe is a Solid weapon, and can cut Oak and Birch Trees for the amazing Finewood Bow, and Bronze Atgeir is pretty good too. Swamp: I R O N M A C E Mountain: Flesh Rippers are really good when you use them with Fenris armor, But Draugr Fang+Poison arrows and Frostner are the True best. Plains: Draugr Fang and Blackmetal Atgeir in my opinion are the best for normal plains, but Frostner is by far the best for Yagluth for sure. Mistlands: Choosing a best weapon from the Mistlands is really difficult. But out of all of the options, I think I would have to say the best is Mistwalker. It is a great Choice for everything in the Mistlands, (except gjalls ofc), Has frost damage, so it slows them down, and it's just really powerful, especially a good choice for when you just entered the Ashlands. Ashlands (I have not used every Ashland weapon yet so if I forget something OP let me know): Thundering Berserker axes are absolutely broken. I can kill Morgens in seconds with these things, they do stupid damage, and they are hella fast, this was a very easy choice. These are my choices, and I hope you all agree with me for fun and disagree with me so we can yell at each other :)
I’ve always slept on spears until my current playthrough. Decided to main spear, and have managed to make it into the Ashlands without firing a single arrow on the entire playthrough. It’s good to try new weapons.
for sure. My feelings on spears has definitely softened as of late. Ive been using the flint spear in the early game a lot lately and really enjoying it
Shortly after starting out I settled on atgeirs and ended up sleeping on a lot of these good weapons. Thing is, when taking a more defensive approach, secondary on a polearm is unparalleled for emergency crowd control and stun locking larger enemies. Also keeping them a a distance where they can't hit you but you can hit them feels good. They suck in rough terrain though This was the case till mistlands, where combo of rough terrain and the insane stamina drain on the Afl forced me to reconsider how I played till that point. My go to now is the mistwalker plus carapace shield combo, afl for open terrain and mandatory arbalest for those floating nutsack moments - it feels like a hit-scan weapon and bolts are cheaper than arrows for some reason plus you can preload in anticipation of an opening. Jotunn is a no-brainer as it's a tool first and weapon second. But nothing beats the satisfaction of turning black forest or swamp into your own personal bare fisted fight club.
Atgeirs are IMO the best so you found a super nice place to settle But i agree that the mistlands presents a unique challenge. I think you made a good choice to switch to the sword and shield. While kind of bland this is a very reliable combo and works it practically all circumstances. I have slept on the arbalest admittedly but I've heard many people say they enjoy it. I may have to give it another look. Absolute CHAD move to go back with fists hahaha
Sleeping on spears. I used spears my first playthrough regardless of weakness up to the Queen. Using a little more strat then just meat mash the enemy, the spear is superior as it gives you TONS of cheese options (Step into the infested mines, everything gets stuck on the first ledge, toss spear, pick up, repeat) as well as just gives you different strats. When we first moved into the Mistlands, the bugs constantly killed us but kiting the seekers and tossing the spear was an instant win that kept me out of range of attacks that would 2 shot me and 1 shot my archer/teammate. We never killed one of the flying bugs with arrows because it takes so long but lemme toss that spear 4 times and oh hes dead. The flexibility of the spears is absolutely insane and as soon as we killed the Queen I tossed Krom and went right back to the spear. The amount of unearned sneak first hits I get tossing the spears, just so good, hunting for food? Tossing the spear aggros all of them!
Just got into Valheim with a hadnful of my buddies and have been absolutely hooked! Amazing game and I just cant get enough! I love your videos for their clarity and level of explanation and depth. Keep it up man, I am already subscribed and if you stay consistent with your posting of videos, 1-2 a week minimum your channel will be at 100k before you know it :)
While I do recommend trying to get low ground while using a spear, Its worth noting that looking straight down and doing the spear throw negates the disadvantage of not being able to hit stuff below you, as it will be thrown directly down and you can pick it up immediately. The wolf fang and carapace spears are my favorite weapon against gjalls, and have really good dps in general
I’m using the krom rn for fun but any one handed weapon with a buckler is gonna be way better in situations where creatures attack through your block I haven’t gotten to the ash lands yet so don’t spoil anything but the krom has a very hard time dealing with seeker soldiers because of the stamina usage and it’s inability to parry their attacks without taking a lot of damage. I’m low key looking forward to getting an upgrade from this thing but it does look dope I feel like cloud or guts.
In my opinion axes are the best weapon category if you dont want to farm weapon materials all the time since they work as tools and as weapons. Krom is still my favorite as its a big sword. The mistlands hammer is best for movement.
flint spear carries me all the way to iron, spam that secondary attack and lets me get a "free" ranged hit maybe even a sneak attack on deer early on without wasting feathers, also if you get good enough with a spear toss you can kill birds for feathers for your real damage dealing ranged weapons
Yeah I frequently use a L4 flint spear with my bow until I switch it for a ategir or something else. I do love charging at an enemy chucking the spear staggering them, picking it up and stabbing immediately killing them. Only down side is when its a larger battle throwing it is more of a hazard because there is so much shit on the ground you pick up other shit that goes into your spear slot.
My problem with the large selection of weapons available is that the devs refuse to provide enough inventory space to carry I complete selection of needed tools/weapons and armor. Removing equipped armor from the inventory screeen into it's own panel would help. Mostly I want to see a larger inventory space allocation, even 1 additional row.
I'm a big bow guy myself! Glad to hear you subbed! I always try and compile the information in a concise way. Like I said in my other comment, in the future I'd like to make all my tables accessible in some way. Likely through my discord
In my opinion: Spears are way better than what people say, especially when you get used to throwing and positioning on uneven terrain, their dps is really nice and crafting them requires minimal materials. Would love to have some kind of "special" spear in Ashlands. 8/10 Daggers are slept on, they put out most dps but aren't really that efficient for beginners, hence they get overlooked. Abyssal razor works wonders even in Mountains. 8/10 Clubs are mechanically top-tier because least resistance, you get access to both single and dual handed weapons, and they get Frostner and Porcupine. For me they tend to get boring and make the game boring at some times. As a weapon type 10/10 Swords for me get almost no playtime, because you get slash from axe and knife, but that is rarely ever needed in my playstyle. If you wanted, you really could make just bow, sword and shield and rock those whole game with no problem (not counting bonemass but resistance is neglected if you kill it with silver sword) it's a perfect jack of trades. 5/10 Axes for me serve purely for woodchopping, and i've tried only once 2-handed axes and they felt massively underwhelming with huge material costs, massive stamina consumption, movement speed penalty and unjustified dmg for all negative effects. 1 handed are too slow for efficient combat too. 3/10 Atgeirs are very strong, mobile, and get best secondary attack in game. Downside for them is most resisted damsge type and huge stam usage. Works wonders both in solo and group but feel boring to use sometimes. 7/10 Bows just work, but for me aren't essential every time. 9/10 Sorry for big rant, i just love this game and hope to see some tweaking in dmg/speed/resistances so that axes and swords would see more use, i feel like sometimes the game pushes ypu too much to use mace.
Appreciate your long and insightful comment! Much appreciated here on the channel so no reason to apologize! I agree with some of what you said and disagree with others and thats okay! I'm a huge bow user myself too. I've been doing a hardcore playthough on stream the last few weeks and I get a lot out of using the bow since I'm trying to avoid damage at all costs! Thanks again for your insights
A good tip when using bombs is that if you hit an enemy with it while undetected I'd does way more damage per tic even if you are detected after the initial hit and throwing them does not draw enemies too you I took out a whole fuling village with them completely undetected and only use about 15 it was fun as hell you just gotta get used too accurately throwing them
@SpazzyjonesGaming yep it's crazy effective I think when I hit them in stealth the tics were hitting a 12.6 damage a tic but when not hit from stealth it was only 5.6
One thing with the mistwalker/staff of frost is that in the Mistlands you can lead seekers and ticks into water and when a player or mob gets the wet status they are weak/neutral to frost
Even if my trusty swords aren’t the best in any given situation, I love them and know them. I might be odd in that I don’t like magic that much in games. I want it to feel more genuinely viking, I don’t want to be a wizard. So I use maces up to and including spamps since many enemies there are weak to it, and then I stick with swords until the end after that. Never used a spear, dagger or atgeir ever. I intend to make and try every weapon and put them on a trophy wall, though.
I think swords are the most rounded of weapon classes in the game. Plus, the beauty of valheim is that every weapon is viable which is great. I love the idea of mounting all the weapons. You will have a sweet armory in no time!
Two things: I think ice staff is objectively the best weapon (in mistlands) It has the block armor level of a full iron banded shield, and has the highest dps in game, if you pair it up with the eitr regen potion, you will be able to constantly shoot as the potions regenerates more eitr than you use. Second thing, I think putting only endgame weapons in the top 3 is redundant, at that point a player is already in their endgame. Here is my recommendations for every biome as a player who has 2954 hours in this game at the time of this comment Meadows (Stone age) : The Crude bow, really good overall damage against the enemies you're fighting, but given its stone age, every weapon here would do Black Forest (Bronze age) Bronze Atgeir: Good damage, good block armor, highest melee range, the only thing resistant to pierce damage is the skeletons in the black forest, best weapon to take out trolls with, just outshines the rest of the weapons here Swamps (Iron age) The Mace. Good damage, good knockback, the only iron age< viable weapon to take out bonemass with. Mountains (Silver age) The Frostner, this is a weapon that you can use all the way to the mistlands, with its only weakness being the moder. The frost damage on it is nuts and it outshines every single weapon in the mountains Plains (Black metal age) The Porcupine...what can I say, insane damage having 2 damage types, high knockback, It is INSANELY cheap to make, once you craft it, you need like 12 iron and 12 needles (approximately) to upgrade it to level 4 Mistlands (Eitr age) Blood shield, This staff is nuts, at lv 0 blood magic skill it gives you a whopping 200 hp shield, at level 25 it gives you a 325 hp shield, and at lv 100 it gives you a 700 hp shield. Oh! if that didn't sound appealing enough, did you know that under the blood shield you can parry any single attack in the game? With every weapon or shield, with every armor? Its nuts, and is the only weapon I think will be truly viable in every age going forward even when Valheim is finished and mistlands will become a midgame age.
I have definitely been sleeping on the ice staff. Its super strong (especially with the slowing effect). my only beef with it is the range of it is low. Totally appreciate your point on end game weapons. It would be a good idea to do a follow up video covering the best weapon per biome. Thanks for the idea!
Spirit is useless? Bruh. Half of Ashlands enemies are undeads. It's also used against fenrings, yagluth, draugrs, all the slimes and probably even more
Daggers are OP for sure but I feel like the best weapon in the entire game as long as you don’t mind using magic is the Staff of Embers cos most enemies are weak to Blunt and Fire damage, the Porcupine is probably the most well rounded weapon for every biome and enemy imo but that might be an unpopular opinion.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming 14 stamina can be very painful for a new player, who mostly uses health food and probably still has issues with stamina control too when reaching Mistlands. But as you get more experienced, you tend to switch from health to stamina food anyway, so it evens out eventually. Also, with experience you use your stamina more wisely, less of it on movement. I like Draugr Fang very much, it is my favourite bow too, but specifically in Mistlands I prefer the Spinesnap just because of the higher damage it deals (saves quite a lot of arrows too). But it boils down to the point that you can use any weapon in Valheim with good success once you really get the hang of it, so it depends mostly on your preferences and playstyle. I myself dislike both blunt and two-handed weapons, but I can deal with the enemies as effectively using other weapons just slightly adjusting my playstyle. That's the beauty of freedom in Valheim.
@@Vasilio1000 really great write up! I agree with all that you're saying especially how as you become more experienced players typically turn their focus on stamina foods. makes sense. You best point which i totally agree with is how all weapons are viable. This is the BEST. Valheim really did a good job of balancing making all weapons have their place.
A good reason to use two-hand axes: it doesnt take away target damage as it does not "spread" its swing damage across multiple enemies, compared to say one handed weapons. You will deal the same amount of damage no matter how many targets you hit. A one handed axe does not do this.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming As in two handed hammers? Yes, same thing. Same goes for the polearm swings. It's meant to "give reason" to use two handed weapons, for groups of enemies. If it turns out I'm actually wrong about this I'm sorry lol.
I would rate the frostner way above the porcupine. The dmg is only a bit better - depending on res of course - and not worth the loss of the slow effect
I disagree with taking Draugr Fang over Spinesnap. Maxed out Spinsnap has 8 more piercing dmg than DF has total pierce and poison combined. Plus the spirit is there when shooting undead. And if someone is gonna argue the "but the poison dmg helps when the target it pierce resistant", yeah but doing 28 more piercing dmg helps with that and if their resistance is that big on an issue them your secondary melee weapon should be a slash or blunt weapon. While dealing 50% piercing dmg against a living target, DF does 48 combined dmg, Spinesnap does 42. A whopping 6 for a specific enemy. Spinesnap will have a better overall dmg output against a wider range of enemies.
it may not be the best, but I'd argue the crystal battle axe looks and feels the coolest oh also polearms are good for breaking wheat and barley using the secondary attack
Fire fire staff is hands down the most powerful. After I lvl'd elemental up to 100, I've been using this thing exclusively, and idk if I can ever use anything else again. The xbow@100 is a very close 2nd place, and good for the long distance surprise shots.
Agreed Fire Embers is the best. Dang you must have grinded to get level 100! I'm surprised to hear xbow in second. I need to give that more of a look I think
I trapped a golem in a hole, and sat there w/ice staff, and blasted him for like 10 hours straight to lvl up to 100. Xbow I built a lil fort in the trees, and summoned bone mass 160 times and shot him w/bone bolts where he couldn't reach me. Blood magic was the WORST. I build a 'farm' at a swamp spawner, and just let my skeletons kill draugr for like....... idk? man? Every day, all day for a couple weeks. Keeping them shielded. But now I have a 700 dmg shield.@@SpazzyjonesGaming
@@NbKXStorm you could make afk the whole process, you just need to summon exclusively archers, then make an elevation near spawn. And you just can leave the game to farm you xp for whole night. Actually I did this, but with greydwarfs, so I don't really know if it's viable in the swamp
I tried it this way, but it was just too slow, it was much faster watching over them, and bubbling them to make the lvls go that much faster.@@retrogenetic-s6j

@@yogsothoth6059yeah dagger and fenris gear is super underrated, yeah you're a little squishy... but that would only matter if they could hit you! Edit: 2k hours played perspective for what that's worth. Edit 2: 1 handed (throwable) spears are also fantastic
When you have to weigh in range (spears) and mobility (knife/fenris) a lot of people just favor big numbers instead because it doesn't require as much skill expression. That's _totally_ valid though, because even though fenris+knife is optimal for a veteran player... it would be a horrible plan for a new player.
Just to emphasize how *S T R O N G* the Staff of Embers really is, it's still incredibly useful even in the *Ashlands.* You know, the one place in the game you'd think it'd be terrible for. That 120 blunt damage is no joke, even when the fire portion is resisted. It's like having a magical hand cannon. Would put money on it being viable all the way to the end of the Deep North (whenever it comes out), as well.
Very helpful, you put a lot of work into this so thank you! I’ve played bout 10 hours and have a question that I can’t find an answer for anywhere so maybe someone can help: I’m on PC with mouse/keyboard default controls and except when using a club, I cannot block/parry with shield. So with a club and small shield equipped I can use LMB to swing weapon and then RMB to bring up shield to block/parry and everything works perfectly to defeat enemies, but if I have axe and small shield equipped and click RMB to bring up shield to block/parry I just do an overhead axe swing instead of bringing up shield to block/parry, if I equip spear and small shield and click RMB I throw the spear! Sorry this is so long but trying to explain clearly as I can, so how do I block/parry with shield while using an axe or spear?! Thanks
Appreciate that man. It did take a long time. Interesting, so the downward axe attack and the spear throw are the 'secondary' attacks for those weapon classes. For me, the secondary attacks are bound to my middle mouse button (the scroll part of the mouse) and block/parry is bound to RMB. I'm wondering if somehow your secondary attack is bound to RMB? Thats my only guess. let me know if that the case or not and comment back if that doesn't work and I'll do my best to help you out!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming okay thanks a lot for the quick reply! If can definitely block/parry with any 1H wep then I’m not using correct button or I don’t have it mapped correctly for my setup. I’m pretty sure I tried clicking and scrolling wheel but I’ll give that and every button on mouse a try 😄 and then go on to mapping. Thanks again, really appreciate the help.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming got shield working with all weps now, turns out I made a mistake with mapping controls. Now I’m getting chased around Black Forest by giant trolls but didn’t need shield, just 15 fire arrows and 5 minutes of kiting ftw! Thanks again for the help with this, and the helpful videos 🙂
Bro, WHAT spears are literally so strong they do so much dps have an instant ranged attack which will always hit and be picked up again if used melee, use no stamina and cost almost nothing to make/upgrade
You make some good points, I can't disagree. What I can't stand about spears is I find the really struggle hitting things with elevation differences which i find SUPER annoying. Plus, I don't like having to retrieve my spear when thrown. If it were like a harpoon and I could pull it back I might like it more I think
@SpazzyjonesGaming you can just throw it though, when the enemy has a different elevation, and in meele your spear will be insta picked up again, for example spear is really useful against leeches
Nah, spears is king, doesn't rely on combo bonus dmg and the attackspeed is insanely good for interupting enemies! I use a 2 handed hammer or my axe when I have wrong elevation, just have to manage the spot you fight.
The frost shotgun is quite a good weapon in my pov because it got more durability than the ember staff. But it lesser effectiv against swarming ennemies
the spear and fenris armor with the feather cape is literally so fun. though I will admit its dmg is lacking but its still usable in almost every biome besides swamp.
Could someone please explain how to do a quick backward move like he does several times in combat? At 4.47 in the video,-sorry dont know how to link it
I gotchu ! Its nothing I'm doing. The lox when hitting me applies 'knockback' which pushed me backward. Different enemies have different levels of knockback. Larger creatures (like the lox) have higher knockback so in that clip I get pushed back pretty far
@@SpazzyjonesGamingAh! I didnt notice that. Thanks for letting me know! Ive been wondering about this "move" since watching a few valheim videos hehe, I can rest now
Himminhafl is amazing and saved me and the gang so many times because of that spin attack. Also how can you not mention the lightning strike animation? I constantly stab the airbiust to see and hear the lightning when im carrying that thing around
You said that an enemy having 0 Tenacity means it will receive "200% increased damage", but in reality it's just 200% damage. The way you said it would mean that it takes triple the normal damage, as opposed to double. Also, I'm pretty sure the "Jotun" in "Jotun Bane" is pronounced like jötunn.
Ngl, i hope they add some waytouse magic in the early game. Obviously its the dev's choice but it feels weird that one of the 'classes' is introduced in the end game. Perhapse there aould be a rudimentary staff and food that gives eiter in the black forest idk.
I'm a bit dissapointed with Staff of Frost. I'm mean... Staff of Ember is sooo good while Staff of Frost is just ok. Not fair, I wanna my ice magic to be OP too!! And since Ashland don't have any new frost magic... All my hopes are put on Deep North... :c
Frostner....any list that this is not #1 i think is trolling honestly, Not only is it a weapon you get in early mid game but it is viable ALL the way to the end in Ashlands atm. So you get a mace in mountains that is top tier in Mountains, Plains, Mistlands and Ashlands, there is no other weapon that is that good through that much.
Gotta agree. I use polearms, daggers, sword, and club. Polearms is the best for multi use (blocking, 1 enemies, crowd control. You name it)Daggers sounds good coz the sneak attack multiplier but sneak in this game…. Not so useful IMO. Sword are okay-ish. Club (frostner) is good for boss like yagluth and bonemass.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming ... Whao. Really wasn't expecting a productive conversation to stem from this. Always hopeful, but I've learned to mitigate my expectations because, ya know, internet lol. Comparing two different weapons in this game with entirely different utility and play style is sorta odd. Essentially, after playing close to 2,000 hours in this game, I have firmly come to the conclusion that every tier list I've seen is wrong. Dead wrong. Often completely backward, actually. Valheim isn't an MMO. It's a survival game. As I'm sure you know, DPS is the smallest fraction of what you should consider when choosing a weapon in Valheim. Utility, usability, and overall survivability are so much more important. Using the thumbnail comparison as an example, if I'm fighting more than one enemy, it's the Demolisher. Period. No question. It has insane knokback, decent parry, and turns you into a chip damage nope machine. It's been my secondary since the beginning of Mistlands, and I'm not sure I'm ever going back. The utility of it is also criminally underrated. It destroys buildings and structures almost as fast as the fire staff. Also, it kills s*** through walls. Unbeatable utility. I've held off 15+ enemies in the Ashlands with it while destroying a spawner simply by walking and smashing. The same kind of comparisons could be made with so many other weapons. The staffs, for instance. The staff of the wild is, by far, the most useful, survivable, AND potentially highest overall DPS staff in the game. And barely anyone uses it. All in all, saying one weapon is better than another in this game, accepting some very obvious cases, requires very specific and unrealistic circumstances to state definitively. Like, the obsession with these double axes weirds me out. Poor block, barely any perry, and single target damage makes for a weapon only truly useful against single enemies with high health. My buddy and I stroll around the Ashlands like two teenagers in the local mall. He mains the nature staff, while I rock the lightning spear and a big ol table shield with the demolisher as a secondary. We don't really die anymore. Sure, we'd do more damage if we picked weapons at the top of whatever tier list, but we'd also die a lot. Sorry for the long winded response, but you of all people seem like someone that'll actually use/appreciate the information.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Had to write this out quick because I have stuff to do, so sorry for the inevitable typos lol I'm also probably missing some things that I'll remember later. Either way, super open to continuing the discussion if you have input, questions, or rebuttals.
@@DillonHockett thanks for the well thoughout response friend! Can't disagree with you at all. Its effectively impossible to create a tier list that everyone will agree with. One great thing about Valheim is balance is quite good and anything is viable if you take the time to maximize its use. To your point, its not an MMO, no need to min, max everything! Thanks again for the response. Love to hear more from you in the future!
For me, it is not only about Damage Type vs Resistances, it is also the ability to apply that Damage efficiently. Tage for example the Swamp - most creatures are vulnerable to blunt there - yet, a Sword and Shield is a very good Option. I prefer the Serpent shield, as Serpents can be killed quite easy by just luring them close to the Swamp and let then get killed by the Leeches in the Water. Seriously, Serpents are overrated a lot and yopu loose all respect for them as soon as you know em - so the Iron for that Shield is the harder Recource to come by. Thus, I start out with a Bronze Sword and a Bronze Buckler maxed out as well as full Troll Armor at max when entering the Swamp. The Sword allows to reach the Leeches while keeping out their reach. The Draugr you can counterblock or even just outmaneuver without rollypoly and then stab them with the secondary as well. Blobs may be a little annoying, but their direct Damage is neglectible, so Poison resist Potions and good Bufffood mitigates that close tu nullifying it. That leaves the Abominations - and that is where the Swords thrust Attack shines as well as the fast little hits. You can not only lure them to flames, you can easily evade their Attacks and then thrust the belly to make pretty good damage in a pretty safe Way - having them on "Farming Status" from the beginning. All of this is not really possible due to the slower attack speeds of Clubs and Maces. As soon as I have Iron, the Serpent shield replaces the Buckler - if I want active parry I just use the Sword itself. But the Piercing Resist coming along the serpent shield is too valueable to let it go - and you can easy equip and unequip it when needed/not needed. The only Weapon that comes close in "usefulness" aka has a decent Damage application in its use is the Atgeir, which makes up for that lack of defense with a supreme reach and also the AoE-Damage application. Still, in Multiplayer we always split up the Types - one "Hammers", one "Pierces" and one "Slashes" - last one main Tanks while the Archer often uses a Mace secondary. And that is my second Weapon I always use - the Bow. Sword and Bow is basically all you need to come by pretty good and is pretty easy to use.
i can agree with that. I think the sword is the best all around diverse weapon class. I like how when you play with a group you each have your own playstyle with different weapon classes. very smart!
I think I know what might be happening. At level 1 it doesnt do spirit but when you level it up it adds spirit damage. So if you're looking at the base level you're right. Try upgrading it and you'll see@@maxmustermann7807
imo, the krom is the best weapon in the game. not because it deals the most damage, it doesnt. not because of its versatility in a fight, its not very versatile at all. its the best weapon because having it equipped fixes your vikings damned hunchback posture.
Feedback: I think the audio was fine. Things I Like: - The black marble pit. - The summary at the beginning. - How you showed all weapons in categories. - All shared information, really nice and interesting. Areas of Improvement: - Didnt like the fact you forgot to add the black metal knife. - A few other mistakes in editing. My recommendation is to make sure to review the final video before uploading. - If you havent uploaded yet, record and edit whatever you missed. I know it takes time but it makes you look more professional this way. - When going over each category, I don't like that you used an image of the weapons instead of just looking at them from the same angle while the game plays. There's no animation or no effects even though many weapons have them. Also, you forgot to mention the Spirit Walker removes fog around you in a small radius (hence the name). I know it's not combat related, but think that is relevant. Favorite Weapons: - Im a sucker for swords and frost so my sword is The Mistwalker for sure. - I also REALLY like magic so the Elemental Staves are my fav magic weapons, Frost over Embers in damage type but Embers over Frost in mechanics (1 huge blast instead of DPS). - I also really like the hammers, specifically the Demolisher. It just feels BADASS. Frostner is a good 1H mace for when im running shield + weapon (favorite non-magic setup). Hard to pick one, I like 1 and 2 a lot, 3 being close by.
Thanks for taking the time to provide all this feedback! I am very glad about the audio, its been the hardest to get right! I agree. Definitely a few boo-boos that I could have taken time to re-edit to include. Interesting. Not a fan of the weapon overlays. I can appreciate that. Gameplay is king! I gave the images because I wanted to showcase the stats/craft costs but I easily could have done that overplayed with gameplay as well. Oof. @@SpazzyjonesGaming for sure! Your content is great and I appreciate the time and effort you put into making these! :) Btw, when I mentioned images with weapons, I think stats and all that is good. Honestly as an experienced Valkyrie of our tribe (spear + buckler + light armor) I'd say the biggest oof of the spear is NOT the melee combo, it's multiplayer, and not necessarily PvP either I mean the fact that your own clan mates keep picking up your thrown spears, they should really impliment some sorta equipment binding system... that or give spears a bit of variety, like piercing is a good damage type, but come on... although I must admit it felt great to defend our village from troll army alone while others were hauling our iron stash from the swamps.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming well I'm not saying that the retrieval on itself would be pain, but when your berserker friend (double one handed) runs over your spear while running to the next target and they pick up YOUR spear... Yea, this is the moment when I just look at the Devs and simply ask "Why?"
Possible spoiler: Spirit damage weapons can stop getting hate. You will need them now. I know you just did this video, but we will need another ranking after the Ashlands update!
Let's not downplay spirit damage too much, several bosses are weak to it and it's handy in the swamp and ashlands because most of the enemies there are undead.

Much fun!
I agree. In a lot of games, you mostly only use 1 thing for a while, but there is so much weapon variety in this game.
Except blunt is objectively the best in almost all scenarios while spears are nearly worthless against everything that isnt just a troll
Spirit got a major fix in v0.204.4 when they fixed its burn effect being removed by being wet, and that's when I started taking note of it's ability to knock undead aside like toys.
ooh I didn't know it was broken for a time. You're a bit of a Valheim historian :p@@MisterHavoc
@@SpazzyjonesGaming lol nah. Just someone with too much time logged in pretending to be a viking. Started playing right around the time it was starting to really blow up in popularity.
@@MisterHavoc your experience is always welcome here!
Another incredible reply! Keep them coming! I didn't know lightening contributed to stagger!
Thanks again for the write-up!

(Which I understand that all weapons have the same repair criteria at that tier, but they compensated through durability and higher damage per hit)
Mace types have been my favorite so far, although they're not perfect for combos versus lightweight enemies because of knockback, they hold up unexpectedly well versus heavy enemies regardless of resistances.

-Low stamina consumption
-Cheap to craft
-Very fast attack speed
-High damage
-Has x6 bonus backstab damage to unalerted enemies
-Can 2 shot normal fulings and seekers
-Can 1 shot almost any unalerted mob in the game with secondary attack
-Can be combined with extended/power combo for even higher DPS
Of course it's has some cons like short range, can't be held together with a shield makes it hard to parry strong attacks.

Just be aware when throwing the spear and picking it back up again to imediately fight with,
if youre inventory is full you wont auto pickup the spear and this may cause you to panic.
The ability to throw from range, do big damage and charge in to quickly pick up the spear and deliver a quick few stabs all while being a light and nimble weapon and able to hold a shield all at the same time...
Is to me OP as hell when you get good at it.
interesting take. There are a lot of spears fans out there.
The worst is when you toss your spear and your friend walks over it. awkward!

This is extremely clutch when you are in mistlands or plains where you can be swarmed and attacked by creatures that have a large range.
absolutely
I love how pretty much any weapon type in Valheim can be on par with its peers if the player is adapted to its fighting style.
When I first played the game I really overlooked knives bc so many games make them just weaker swords, but goddamn are they awesome in Valheim
I typically do swords as primary / atgeirs secondary bc it seems to be quite versatile and decent in most situations, but I enjoy finding new combat styles/pairings.
I couldn't agree more. Haha I am one of those people who is anti tower shield 😞. But I see your point!
Tradeoff with tower shields imo:
+ better mobility w/o shield when you need it
+ better blocking w/ shield when you need it
+ makes dungeons easier
- less mobility w/shield
- can't always predict when you'll need a shield or not (weak against ambushes)
- less versatile
- poor in difficult terrain
Good pros/cons list. I don't disagree@@a_pirate1434
Good points. It might be best to go with no shield and then swap to tower when you need to block like you suggested@@a_pirate1434

I recently finished the game with my friends and I was playing as a mage using the full set of staffs and the mage armor
I was feeling awesome and so helpful and unique using this set as we were fighting the queen, adding the feather cape with it was so satisfying as well
thats awesome ! mage casting is a blast. Im glad you all enioyed the game!
I was playing like a mage as an endgame playstyle
In valheime you can't just skip the whole process and start playing like a mage
I progressed from stone tools all the way to black metal and only then I started playing like a mage because it was fun and different
Well the trick to swords in general is special attack. Krom has insane dmg on it
Yeah the secondary attack does work!@@janekgaganek3871
Krom can be OP if used properly. It's my fav weapon since I can take down few ticks with one swing and its decent range is helpful with seekers cause I can hit them first and stagger them.
Yet still I do NOT recommend it for players with swords skill under 50.
While spears are a bit clunky with its normal attacks, the throwing attack makes up for it. If used correctly, the throwing attack can trivialize so many enemies in the game, its actually a much better ranged weapon early on compared to bows which requires some leveling up for them to start being busted, and to top it off, spears are great for early game hunting!
Interesting. Don't you find it hard to retrieve the spear each time? that's what I don't like about the spear throw
@@SpazzyjonesGaming at first it is but becomes basically second nature after chucking spears for hours. I also didn't really like spears too much until I just decided to to do a playthrough with them after a friend of mines told me not to sleep on it.
I'll have to give them another try@@RuynTheWorld
This video was just what I needed. Thank you!!
Great to hear my man! Glad you enjoyed it
1:38 correct me if I'm wrong but the values are not representing more damage but rather the multiplier for the base damage.
I am a bad archer)
I'm still only in black forest however so I wouldn't be surprised if later that style would fall off.
That's fair. You make a very good point with the quick animations that I think I generally overlook.
In my experience I first started finding them more annoying in the swamp so we will have to see how you make out
Here are my favorite Weapons for each Stage of the game
Meadows: I like Club and Flint Spear the most here, not much Meadow weapon stuff to talk about.
Black Forest: There are 3 Great weapons for me - Bronze Axe is a Solid weapon, and can cut Oak and Birch Trees for the amazing Finewood Bow, and Bronze Atgeir is pretty good too.
Swamp: I R O N M A C E
Mountain: Flesh Rippers are really good when you use them with Fenris armor, But Draugr Fang+Poison arrows and Frostner are the True best.
These are my choices, and I hope you all agree with me for fun and disagree with me so we can yell at each other :)
great choices. I love how all weapons are viable. My personal favs are atgeirs and maces.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Atgeirs are maces are good, I agree
I’ve always slept on spears until my current playthrough. Decided to main spear, and have managed to make it into the Ashlands without firing a single arrow on the entire playthrough. It’s good to try new weapons.
for sure. My feelings on spears has definitely softened as of late. Ive been using the flint spear in the early game a lot lately and really enjoying it
My favorite weapon is the trusty iron mace. Is it the best? No. But it’s useful and cheap, and it’s simple appearance is lovely
This is a spicy hot take! :P
My best friend also swears by the iron mace as a melee weapon. Especially if melee is secondary for your character.
Maybe I am sleeping on the mace :p@@stevebreedlove9760
Unless you're in the mountains, I'd rather have the Frostner. But in the mountains, the Iron Mace is definitely OP.
They suck in rough terrain though
This was the case till mistlands, where combo of rough terrain and the insane stamina drain on the Afl forced me to reconsider how I played till that point.
Interesting. I might need to give them another try. Many people like yourselves have told me I am sleeping on spears
That useless spirit damage lookin pretty sweet rn in Ashlands :D
oh yeah. Its definitely useful now in the ashlands
Just got into Valheim with a hadnful of my buddies and have been absolutely hooked! Amazing game and I just cant get enough! I love your videos for their clarity and level of explanation and depth. thanks man! I'm almost to 10k and 100k will be after that! appreciate the kind works and I hope you and your buddies have a blast with Valheim!
While I do recommend trying to get low ground while using a spear, Its worth noting that looking straight down and doing the spear throw negates the disadvantage of not being able to hit stuff below you, as it will be thrown directly down and you can pick it up immediately. The wolf fang and carapace spears are my favorite weapon against gjalls, and have really good dps in general
very fair. yeah you can throw it to hit those low enemies like spawners
Fell to my knees when I found out you didn't include the Abyssal razor in the knives list and only mentioned it in your top 5
hahah the abyssal razor is nice!
The krom looks badass and feels fun to use but your experience sounds similar to mine. In my view, its not the best weapon to use IMO
In my opinion axes are the best weapon category if you dont want to farm weapon materials all the time since they work as tools and as weapons. Krom is still my favorite as its a big sword. The mistlands hammer is best for movement.
i think you're going to like the ashlands weapons!
I like using spears for specifically hunting birds for feathers - saves arrows :)
thats a good idea. Ive always just used wood arrows since they're cheap
@@SpazzyjonesGaming i save the wood for fire arrows :) better use of the wood imo.
flint spear carries me all the way to iron, spam that secondary attack and lets me get a "free" ranged hit maybe even a sneak attack on deer early on without wasting feathers, also if you get good enough with a spear toss you can kill birds for feathers for your real damage dealing ranged weapons
im not a fan of spears but the flint is pretty solid early on
Yeah I frequently use a L4 flint spear with my bow until I switch it for a ategir or something else.
Mostly I want to see a larger inventory space allocation, even 1 additional row.
thats a common complaint. you need a separate inventory for what you're wearing or your weapons or something
There's only one weapon. Bow. I suck at dodging attacks.
*subbed - your tables are freaking great. Obviously took a lot of time compiling that info!
I'm a big bow guy myself! Glad to hear you subbed! I always try and compile the information in a concise way.
Like I said in my other comment, in the future I'd like to make all my tables accessible in some way. Likely through my discord
I loves me my Draugr Fang. Fav weap.
In my opinion:
Spears are way better than what people say, especially when you get used to throwing and positioning on uneven terrain, their dps is really nice and crafting them requires minimal materials. Would love to have some kind of "special" spear in Ashlands. 8/10
Daggers are slept on, they put out most dps but aren't really that efficient for beginners, hence they get overlooked. Abyssal razor works wonders even in Mountains. 8/10
Clubs are mechanically top-tier because least resistance, you get access to both single and dual handed weapons, and they get Frostner and Porcupine. For me they tend to get boring and make the game boring at some times. As a weapon type 10/10
Swords for me get almost no playtime, because you get slash from axe and knife, but that is rarely ever needed in my playstyle. If you wanted, you really could make just bow, sword and shield and rock those whole game with no problem (not counting bonemass but resistance is neglected if you kill it with silver sword) it's a perfect jack of trades. 5/10
Axes for me serve purely for woodchopping, and i've tried only once 2-handed axes and they felt massively underwhelming with huge material costs, massive stamina consumption, movement speed penalty and unjustified dmg for all negative effects. 1 handed are too slow for efficient combat too. 3/10
Atgeirs are very strong, mobile, and get best secondary attack in game. Downside for them is most resisted damsge type and huge stam usage. Works wonders both in solo and group but feel boring to use sometimes. 7/10
Bows just work, but for me aren't essential every time. 9/10
Sorry for big rant, i just love this game and hope to see some tweaking in dmg/speed/resistances so that axes and swords would see more use, i feel like sometimes the game pushes ypu too much to use mace.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming what points did you disagree on mostly? Thanks for reply.
I think just on spears honestly. I think you're spot on otherwise but it might just be a personal preference for me!

A good tip when using bombs is that if you hit an enemy with it while undetected I'd does way more damage per tic even if you are detected after the initial hit and throwing them does not draw enemies too you I took out a whole fuling village with them completely undetected and only use about 15 it was fun as hell you just gotta get used too accurately throwing them
oh wow so you get basically get the backstab bonus on the damage ticks after you hit them? Thats incredible. i didn't know that
@SpazzyjonesGaming yep it's crazy effective I think when I hit them in stealth the tics were hitting a 12.6 damage a tic but when not hit from stealth it was only 5.6
One thing with the mistwalker/staff of frost is that in the Mistlands you can lead seekers and ticks into water and when a player or mob gets the wet status they are weak/neutral to frost
very good point
Two things:
I think ice staff is objectively the best weapon (in mistlands) It has the block armor level of a full iron banded shield, and has the highest dps in game, if you pair it up with the eitr regen potion, you will be able to constantly shoot as the potions regenerates more eitr than you use.
Second thing, I think putting only endgame weapons in the top 3 is redundant, at that point a player is already in their endgame.
Here is my recommendations for every biome as a player who has 2954 hours in this game at the time of this comment
Meadows (Stone age) : The Crude bow, really good overall damage against the enemies you're fighting, but given its stone age, every weapon here would do
Black Forest (Bronze age) Bronze Atgeir: Good damage, good block armor, highest melee range, the only thing resistant to pierce damage is the skeletons in the black forest, best weapon to take out trolls with, just outshines the rest of the weapons here
Swamps (Iron age) The Mace. Good damage, good knockback, the only iron age< viable weapon to take out bonemass with.
Mountains (Silver age) The Frostner, this is a weapon that you can use all the way to the mistlands, with its only weakness being the moder. The frost damage on it is nuts and it outshines every single weapon in the mountains
Plains (Black metal age) The Porcupine...what can I say, insane damage having 2 damage types, high knockback, It is INSANELY cheap to make, once you craft it, you need like 12 iron and 12 needles (approximately) to upgrade it to level 4
Mistlands (Eitr age) Blood shield, This staff is nuts, at lv 0 blood magic skill it gives you a whopping 200 hp shield, at level 25 it gives you a 325 hp shield, and at lv 100 it gives you a 700 hp shield.
Oh! if that didn't sound appealing enough, did you know that under the blood shield you can parry any single attack in the game? With every weapon or shield, with every armor?
Its nuts, and is the only weapon I think will be truly viable in every age going forward even when Valheim is finished and mistlands will become a midgame age.
I have definitely been sleeping on the ice staff. Its super strong (especially with the slowing effect). my only beef with it is the range of it is low.
Totally appreciate your point on end game weapons. It would be a good idea to do a follow up video covering the best weapon per biome. Thanks for the idea!
I highly recommend using the mod Slope Combat Fix so you can hit structures and enemies below you.
wow thats the first I have heard of that mod. Might have to check that out!
Best start weapons: 1. Torch 2. Flint Spear 3. the campfire!!
good picks

I bet once ashlands with all the undead stuff spirit might be good, we will see
You very well might be right! I think that would be great, I feel spirit needs a place. So many weapons do it
And you were right xD
Great guide and overview. Thanks. Now do one top 3 for each biome 😀keep up the good work
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, I'll consider it!
Spirit is useless? Bruh. Half of Ashlands enemies are undeads. It's also used against fenrings, yagluth, draugrs, all the slimes and probably even more
the video predates the ashlands. Before the ashlands it was pretty underhwelming
@@SpazzyjonesGaming well if you mean, it was useless for mistlands, then i totally understand
@@AlienSliker i think generally it isn't super great except for the ashlands
Daggers are OP for sure but I feel like the best weapon in the entire game as long as you don’t mind using magic is the Staff of Embers cos most enemies are weak to Blunt and Fire damage, the Porcupine is probably the most well rounded weapon for every biome and enemy imo but that might be an unpopular opinion.
Fair point. magic is truly busted!
The Spinesnap has 72 pierce tho vs the Draugr Fang's 47.
Isn't that huge?
Definitely big. the 14 stamina per shot versus 10 from the draugr really hurts it over the full stamina bar IMO but its certainly not bad by any means
I did not know this. Great information thank you. Thats a huge benefit. Are hammers the same I wonder? I feel they might be
@@SpazzyjonesGaming As in two handed hammers? Yes, same thing. Same goes for the polearm swings. It's meant to "give reason" to use two handed weapons, for groups of enemies. If it turns out I'm actually wrong about this I'm sorry lol.
I would rate the frostner way above the porcupine. The dmg is only a bit better - depending on res of course - and not worth the loss of the slow effect
i agree
Spinesnap will have a better overall dmg output against a wider range of enemies.
with the launch of the ashlands spirit damage got a lot better. I think there is a much bigger argument to be made for the spinesnap now
Frost staff is OP at The Queen and it also destroys seeker soldiers if you shoot the butt
It's also good at the Ashlands against almost everything
I like the ice staff. Its range is just so short. Thats my critique

Yes, polearms are nice for that
Fire fire staff is hands down the most powerful.

Xbow I built a lil fort in the trees, and summoned bone mass 160 times and shot him w/bone bolts where he couldn't reach me. Blood magic was the WORST.
Oh definitely. its busted. In a lot of ways its better than all the new staves introduced by the ashlands

I agree. Definitely the most underutilized weapon class
Maybe ill have to give it another try@@Dennis-ux8hd
Nah, spears is king, doesn't rely on combo bonus dmg and the attackspeed is insanely good for interupting enemies!
I use a 2 handed hammer or my axe when I have wrong elevation, just have to manage the spot you fight.
thats fair. they just aren't for me
The frost shotgun is quite a good weapon in my pov because it got more durability than the ember staff. But it lesser effectiv against swarming ennemies
makes sense. Each are good in their own way

They're made of marble from the Mistlands. I don't know if that answers your question or not
Can we get an update for ashlands?
I did this full overview of ashlands weapons. Maybe this is satisfies what you're looking for ! th-cam.com/video/7F4PS1nW-M4/w-d-xo.html
Himminhafl is amazing and saved me and the gang so many times because of that spin attack. Also how can you not mention the lightning strike animation? I constantly stab the airbiust to see and hear the lightning when im carrying that thing around
Himminafl is my fave pre-ashlands weapons hands down!
And i thought that parry bonus is the damage multiplier
Very useful
Cleard up alot
Yeah its a common misconception and really not made clear by the game at all. Glad I could help!
You said that an enemy having 0 Tenacity means it will receive "200% increased damage", but in reality it's just 200% damage. The way you said it would mean that it takes triple the normal damage, as opposed to double.
Also, I'm pretty sure the "Jotun" in "Jotun Bane" is pronounced like jötunn.
you're correct on both fronts
One thing i like about flesh rippers is that the fists skill is super easy to level up by beating up weak enemies with bare fists
nice yeah that is true
My 3 favorite weapons are the himminafl, the spine snap and the staff of embers.
Great choices. My only disagreement is the spinesnap. I prefer the Draugr Fang or Hunstman
Hope we will get some more fist weapons in the future
Me too. The are a lot of funny and give me even more reason to rock my fenris gear
Hey will this game ever come on Playstation?
I sure hope so! I'd imagine one day it will be but I don't have a date sadly!
If you play magic get all the magic weapons since they are so diverse
I love magic
Crystal Battle Axe Is currently my fav
it does look great!
Ngl, i hope they add some waytouse magic in the early game. Obviously its the dev's choice but it feels weird that one of the 'classes' is introduced in the end game. Perhapse there aould be a rudimentary staff and food that gives eiter in the black forest idk.
not a bad take at all. Unfortunately I kind of doubt they will ever go back to old biomes but hopefully I am wrong
i thought that originally too but Ive started leaning into the frost. the slow effect is just SO good
Music is the bo of Jonathan Glazer s movie "Under The Skin" right?
Im not really sure. this is the guy who did the music: www.bensound.com
Frostner....any list that this is not #1 i think is trolling honestly, Not only is it a weapon you get in early mid game but it is viable ALL the way to the end in Ashlands atm. So you get a mace in mountains that is top tier in Mountains, Plains, Mistlands and Ashlands, there is no other weapon that is that good through that much.
fair. its goated
Club (frostner) is good for boss like yagluth and bonemass.
nice! great minds think alike!

how do you mean? Genuinely cuious. I am always looking for feedback! Its an older video of mine so I like to think I have improved since :)
@@SpazzyjonesGaming
@@SpazzyjonesGaming
Had to write this out quick because I have stuff to do, so sorry for the inevitable typos lol
I'm also probably missing some things that I'll remember later.

Great video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it smokey!
I like how when you play with a group you each have your own playstyle with different weapon classes. very smart!
The mistwalker doesn’t do spirit dmg right ?
it does. It does 3 types: Slash, Frost, and Spirit!
@@SpazzyjonesGamingbut when I look it up it only does slash and frost.
I think I know what might be happening. At level 1 it doesnt do spirit but when you level it up it adds spirit damage. So if you're looking at the base level you're right. Try upgrading it and you'll see@@maxmustermann7807

Feedback:
I think the audio was fine.
Things I Like:
- The black marble pit.
- The summary at the beginning.
- How you showed all weapons in categories.
- All shared information, really nice and interesting.
Areas of Improvement:
- Didnt like the fact you forgot to add the black metal knife.
Favorite Weapons:
- Im a sucker for swords and frost so my sword is The Mistwalker for sure.
Oof. Dumb of me not to mention the light source of the mistwalker. Very good point
Lastly, I think you have great taste in weapons! Your favs are a lot like mine!
Thanks for the feedback and hope to hear from you again on future videos!
@@SpazzyjonesGaming for sure! Your content is great and I appreciate the time and effort you put into making these! :)
Btw, when I mentioned images with weapons, I think stats and all that is good. I was referring to the still shots of the weapons mounted on the wall. What I would have preferred instead of still shots of them, is the same shot from the same angle, still camera but the game playing normally (so instead of a screenshot of the weapons, you looking at the weapons without moving).
Oh I follow you now! Gotcha, dang yeah, that wouldn't have been hard to do either. I'll keep that in mind going forward.

@SpazzyjonesGaming haha its okey senpai! Im just started my journey and only 120h in. Your video was helpful!
@@jimayja6L glad it helped my friend! enjoy the ride
Hahah yeah I don't like having to retrieve it. Shame spears don't have a rope attached like the harpoon
@@SpazzyjonesGaming well I'm not saying that the retrieval on itself would be pain, but when your berserker friend (double one handed) runs over your spear while running to the next target and they pick up YOUR spear... Yea, this is the moment when I just look at the Devs and simply ask "Why?"
hahaha you think it could be restricted to be picked up by the player who threw it. That would certainly help@@TheProskater666
Possible spoiler:
Spirit damage weapons can stop getting hate. You will need them now. I know you just did this video, but we will need another ranking after the Ashlands update!
Absolutely. A whole lot of new weapons have been added!
Spirit damage is useful wherever undead enemies are present.
Let's not downplay spirit damage too much, several bosses are weak to it and it's handy in the swamp and ashlands because most of the enemies there are undead.
Yeah this video was pre-ashlands so slept on a bit there. Its absolutely busted now in the new biome so that dramatically changes things
Different strokes for different folks. There is no bad weapon.

lighting spear is not good if you are playing on hard mode, because in hard mode 1 hit > 50% HP and you get stuned in no time in current level biom.
