The main one id say is the ballista. Its definitely killed me before and its single target or everyone function sucks, but for the new boss raids i find it helpful. I have 2 set to target the mountains mini boss and plains mini boss for the raids
Well, the way you play makes some of your choices right well for other would be completely false. For those who like to built a lot, some of the things you mention are a must or at least very useful at certain situations. The raft for example is the best ally when you try to arrange underwater terrain (for example to prepare, canals, fjords o coves for a port). And I bet you hard that in the frozen north we are gonna need to have a good swimming attribute, so better start raising it.
I like the raft, sure, its crap, but thats the point. The feeling of going off on a fun, slow paced adventure in an area that will soon become utterly irrelevant as you progress is exactly what the earlygame is for. Build a raft, cross that lake, you dont need a reason, the world is yours to discover and for now its a small, cozy place.
@@SpazzyjonesGamingactually raft is a mistland item, hear me out, the raft is perfect for fishing, and fish and bread being the best stamina food in misland, making fishing a need, and its really hard to fish with the krave or any other boat because they are either too big or the edge will prevent you from grabbing the fish
@@SpazzyjonesGaming The raft has a particularly nice specialty use: it's excellent as platform for building bridges, piers, and other over water structures. It gives you a couple more meters of "down" visibility for raising terrain or building below the water line and its slowness in this use case is actually an advantage because you can put it precisely where you need to to finish tricky build steps.
@@Yuukinum0 very well spotted I also navigated through mistland islands with a raft. It is better than to swim between the islands and get killed in the water. Second reason is that gjalls can spawn near water, and at the early stage of mistland exploration they are are very hard to kill - I lost a few longships to them. The raft at least is expendable.
To solve both the circlet and coin issue, buy a bunch of circlets and put them on item stands. They act as interesting blue/white light sources that never need to be refilled.
As a player who absolutely LOVES building nice structures and decorate bases in Valheim while playing with friends, i don't really think it's necessary to put decorative items and their crafting materials in such lists. Yes, it's absolutely useless if your whole purpose is to speedrun the game while making zero stuff to look back into, but it's a pretty harsh style of gaming if you ask me. Devs made a pretty cool building system for a good reason. Just take a moment to build something nice, it's hard to stay satisfied if your house looks like a big boring cardboard box. The fishing is also a very satisfying thing to do after you created a beautiful harbour for your friend's ships. It's just a nice little interaction that shouldn't be taken away from your experience.
i love the building and decorations but i think the way to get to the needed materials is just super anoying. If you need something specific to get your gear up but your inv is perma packed its just frustrating, so you throw away all the stuff for the base and later you have to spend hours after hours just to get the stuff you threw away earlier. So i agree to them as beeing one of the useless things.
I'm with you on the decorations. Everything in the game is worth making if you are a builder and want to experiment with decor. That said, it's a neat thing about this game that between building, exploring, fighting, crafting, surviving, and rushing to boss fights, there are several ways to play it - and each player has a favorite part. Based on the comments here, I'd say the OP respects that some of us enjoy some of these items even if he doesn't. Okay, I said enough, I need to get back to using my circlet so I can build at night... ;)
Lets do a "most useless list" for every survival craft ever. 1. First versions of weapons, armor, and transport that can possibly be skipped by an experienced player. 2. Any gear that isn't META that come out relatively close to said META gear. 3. Any currency that you eventually will have too much of. 4. Any gear that is more expensive to craft that doesn't outshine it's alternatives. 5. Any aesthetic or purely fun item. There ya go. Did your job for anything else in this genre that you may choose to do. Jokes aside, you made some good points.
You think tower shields are more useful than spears? the crude bow is more useful than a whole armor set? i would say thats Yagulth's power is more useless than elders. I think half of this list is you being a bad builder
@Scratch4Funbonemass power is straight up better for nearly everything in the Ashlands. The fallen valkyrie is the only real elemental damage you encounter and it’s easy to dodge.
Flametal armor can literally be the difference between life and death when mining flametal ore, one step in the lava without it and you are dead on the spot. Its still good armor too if you are a block or tank build rather than someone who prefers dodge. I'll admit Bronze is better spent on weapons and tools rather armor, Used troll armor through the entire swamp. Ashwood bed is kinda pointless I agree. I literally didnt use pukeberries until ashlands when I accidently ate the wrong food when heading out. I was about to call you out for the Skull throne until you said it looks cool.
Man, the raft has insane memories, me and ny friends lost our longboat after the portal got obliterated by some mobs, now we had to use a radt to go from spawn to mistlands lmao, imagine the pain of navigating through a storm with a massive sea serpent chasing us
Ancient Seeds. FFS you only need three for the entire game and once you've done Bonemass you get that many every single night at your base camp. Far more frustrating than the bukeberries because they at least have a use.
The Dvergr Circlet isn’t even close to useless. It’s great in the swamp crypts. Parrying makes armor not a huge issue, and poison potions are easy to make and mean you don’t need to root mask. The circlet lets you see and still have both hands on your pickaxe or weapon and shield. How could that ever be called “useless”?
@joshuadempsey5281 eh, the visibility in the chambers/crypts isn't so bad that you need the light. So the circlet is pretty useless. If it was darker then sure, but it's not lol.
I do think that the elder power is the weakest power, but not quite the most useless power. It definitely comes in handy if I want to clear out a bunch of forest for a base or other big structure.
I use it for chopping down trees, and always to forget to change it back when I'm going out on adventures. I guess it's better to just not use this power.
Thing with Elder power is that, the time/energy you save with it, you will expend when you go back to the stonecircle to excange it for eikthir or a higher level power.
@@carlpult5235 i get your point but if you wanna use them efficient use a portal... it will take like 20 sek to change the power and save you 2min at least
Oh boy, the swamp wells (...didn't know what they were called when I found the first one) were a disappointment. You see the torch marking the site, you close in, you see the building and think "cool, a dungeon", and then ... nothing. Sad, really, culd have been something.
Since ashlands I'm a huge fan of the tower shield. It only slows you down by 10% instead of 20%. Combine it with the ashen cape (20% less stamina to block and 10% less stamina for attacks) and Mistwalker (frost damage to slow down enemies) and you can block all day and hit when the time is right. No stamina problems. Especially when you encounter larger groups of enemies. Bonus: Position yourself opposite of a morgen or asksvin with enemies in between. The morgen or asksvin will smash them for you.
The elder buff is extremely good unless you're a solo player building small shit shacks or abuse x times gather rates. The raft is nice to build when you need to cross a larger body of water on the go and is also used for some speedrun strats.
Missed opportunities: - Using fireworks as a weapon, Gunpowder era lol, or have rows of it mounted like a Hwacha which makes it a nice base defense - Using coins to hire Dvergr as mercenaries - Can't grow jute
i wish the goblins had to retrieve their spears after chucking it at me, kind of funny to watch if you get a bunch of em together and turn on some Three Stooges sound track lol
Ballistas are very good for defending coastal camps against Trolls who will always try to go around your palisades through the water and destroy your camp when you least expect.
So, not a speed run tatic but, bronze armor makes a great backup for iron, as all level 4 tank armor is that same as level 1 of the next tier, so if I die in iron age, I can grab my level 4 bronze and at least be at level 1 iron Defense. But, I also like to make EVERYTHING, LOL.
Me and my friend use bukeberries as a tool of war, we leave bukeberries strewn all over each others bases ,and sometimes throw them at each other , just to take up inventory space XD Its a subtle tool of malice !
the differences in what the community feels has been useful to them and not to others is exactly why I love this game so much, everyone finding out how to play the game for themselves, and figuring out how they wanna play with the tools given.
I agree about the Elder power- I never use it. Maybe if it added a weight reduction for wood so you can load up and carry more it would be way more useful. I agree with the vast majority of items on this list.
@@kongvealsurvives its so little time you save with that. i wish it would at least give 10-15% attack speed with the axt, or give you 5% walk speed, or 2 extra inv slots just for wood that dont use weight, or no slow from the cart.
Elder probably ties with Yalguth in versatility. That is to say, they both are used only in a very specific scenarios and it having them with you at all times will never be justified. But where Yalguth can always be substituted with wine and meads, elder allows you to prefarm a ton of wood like nothing else does. I don't know the exact breakpoints for logs, but even five less strikes per tree will save you a lot of time between both the animations and waiting for stamina. Combine that with an aoe effect for the team, and you can fill entire carts with wood in just five minutes. Then one of you replants the forest, other starts hauling wood and the elder-haver goes through the teleports to change his power back to bonemass. Being able to get like two great chests of wood in just seven minutes is a great power, thank you elder
Yeah... the circlet is a down spotlight... wells that are higher above ground level can save you from a sudden raid in the swamp...catapults can be mining tools... fireworks are for parties with friends... decorative pieces have intrinsic value... I still run out of resin... A list for people who live/playthrough in a very small box?
The one thing I genuinely hate about this channel is that every time I watched a video I end up saying to myself ‘’man that was so obvious why didn’t I thought about it🤦🏽♂️’’😂😂😂 Keep up your awesome work bud your my favourite Valheim creator 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They could fix the bronze age grind so easily by changing the recipe to provide 3 bronze ingots for your input of 2 copper and 1 tin ingots, and also do a lot for the conservation of matter...
If I could change the Elder’s Forsaken power, I’d improve (or at least clarify) the woodcutting ability, do the same for mining, and have wood, stone, and ores weigh less in your inventory.
I will say, 1 stack of bukeperries is useful to keep around base for when you want to change foods or go off with a fresh charge (fighting bosses for example) and I agree, ashlands has shown how much we need extra inventory space, haldor needs a mission of his own with item unlocks that are stronger bonuses (and potentially locking meringjord behind the first one?)
Ballistas can be very effective if used correctly. During our first Ashlands-Playthrough we surrounded our shore-base by raising the ground, but we also had a V-shaped area leading to the main entrance. we put 6 ballistas in this K-Box: 2 directly before the gate, and 2 on each side of the V. We had set them: 2 for Charred, 2 for Morgen, 2 for Askvin. This helped a lot in defending the entrance!
Okay, my opinion time - 30 - Crude bow - agreed, but unless you want to do log rolling, you have no choice. 29 - Flametal armor - the helm looks really kewl. 28 - Tower shields - agreed, EXCEPT for the Serpent Scale shield. 27 - Spears - agreed 100%. I even skip the flint spear. 26 - Elder Power - agreed 100%. 25 - Dvergr Circlet and Lantern - TOTAL disagreement. The circlet is the second item I buy from Haldor. It allows hands-free searching in burial chambers and sunken crypts, as well as building or farming at night. 24 - Drynwyn - Never made it, so no opinion. 23 - Coins - agreed. Need something more to buy - that is worth buying. Say spend 2500gp and get a longship. (Maybe need to adjust that cost, but the idea is sound IMHO.) 22 - Bronze armor - agreed 100%. Never made it once. 21 - Resin - Needed, but not in those quantities. I suggest deleting it from the drops of greydwarfs, 20 - Fireworks - Just a way to spend coins. 19 - Rag armor - Anyone who makes rag pants is a fool. 18 - Swim skill - agreed. 17 - Catapult - only good for launching yourself across the world. ROTFL. 16 - Crystal - I like it for windows and clerestories. 15 - Bronze/Iron Arrows - I only use these if I find them. I never make them. 14 - Ghosts - agreed. 13 - Raft - I once had a world where the spawn was an island in the middle of a bay. Nothing but Meadows. No choice but to raft to mainland. 12 - Red and Blue Jute - good for aesthetics. 11 - Ashwood bed - never made it, but if it's not better than dragon bed, I never will. 10 - Fishing Rod and Hat - never tried fishing. I think it takes too long to get anything worthwhile. 9 - Charcoal Resin - never found this item. 8 - Ballistae - I love these, but I always use a trophy - either troll or fuling or especially seeker. 7 - Traps - agreed. 6 - Bukeperries / Rotten Meat - agreed. These go straight to the Obliterator. 5 - Tankard - I like it for decorating a fest hall. 4 - Asksvin Bones - the skeleton is hilarious - "Asksvin Rides - 25gp". 3 - Charred Skull - never found one. 2 - Smoke bomb - never made one. 1 - Swamp wells - agreed. Totals - Agree with you 19/30. Disagree 6/30. No Opinion 5/30.
its so facinating how different the game is for everyone and every playthrough changes your understanding of the game. at first i built tower shilds - they had better stats. I always built the bronze armor - had better stats too. I never used dvergr circlets because i wanted meginjord and forgot there was somthing else in the shop. I slowly realise everytime i play it how much more efficient i couldve been.
can't agree with the resin, we have a massive main base and one cycle of torches ressuply could easily take about 10-12 stacks of it. and there are another, smaller bases too. our resin chest is always half empty😅 pukeberries/rotten meat going straight to the trash bin, which give them unexpected roleplay value, when you actually need to change food from base builder to battle ration, you go to the dumpster and eat rotten meat from it like some kind of hobo, lol
I thought the bronze pickaxe would be mentioned, man it's the most useless tool upgrade as you can keep using the antler pickaxe all the way down to the iron age and can use a level 1 workbench to repair it.
Bro...This list was a masterpiece. I have a shameful amount of hours on this game (immortal runs on very hard, modded runs, etc, etc, etc.) and I 100% agree with *everything you said here. If I could go above 100%, I would ...*except red jute item, those rugs really tie the room together... Edit: coins only become useful when you run with the epicloot mod (pair with creaturelevelandlootcontrol) -- highly recommended.
-Flametal armor is useful because with some health food and potions, it turns you into a near-unkillable tank. It's a much more chill way to play than constantly dodging -Lanterns are the only infinite-fuel light source with a decent level of brightness No one likes fueling torches for the hundredth time, plus they look way nicer -Elder power is useful if you are in need of a lot of wood, just pop it and go berserker mode on some trees, then hop in the spawn portal and swap back to bonemass or eikthyr.
There are a few I disagree as a builder, but there are 2 I heavily disagree as a player. Number 1 being the Crystal Battleaxe, not as a weapon, but as an actual woodcutting axe. It's attack doesn't get reduced if you hit multiple trees like normal axes, allowing you to a lot more easily cut down multiple trees at the same time and its secondary attack is a lot faster than if a normal axe attack, allowing you to cut a single tree faster than a normal axe while it works better as a fighting weapon if your main weapon is broken than the Iron Axe you'd have at that point in the game, making it a better woodcutting axe and better weapon than the Iron Axe. Number 2 is the Ballista specifically to protect Mistland farms from Gjalls. You can easily protect your farm from Seekers with walls and doors, but since you can't make ceilings on your farms, you can't protect it from Gjalls, making it a risk that you will return to a destroyed farm, but you can make ballistas with Gjall trophies at high places or arrangements for ballistas to only be able to shoot high without trophies so you are safe as long as you are low, making it possible to have a Mistland farm anywhere there is farmable soil without the risk of ever getting back to it being fully destroyed by a wandering Gjall.
Totally agree from a builders perspective as I’m not a builder and this listed is skewed away from build items as a result. Both good points on the battle axe and ballistia. Perhaps I need to give them another chance
Oh boy... 1) Crude bow: If you have even a toddler's sense of ballistics, you will be able to hit a deer from miles away. 2) Tower shields. The bone shield cannot be beat at low level. nothing comes even remotely close to its block force, and it doesn't even require metal. It's practically free, and like I said, outperforms the nearest best option by a factor 2. Yes, twice as good. 3) Elder power: You must not have built anything larger than an outhouse. I'm going to leave it at that. 4) Dvergr circlet. After the belt, EVERYBODY in my server gets this second. Everybody. Because it's so useless, you know. 5) Coins. The fact you don't have anything to spend it on is not the cins fault, its the developers fault. And whattadaya know: Bog witch. *drops mic, exits stage left* 6) Resin. See #5 "Coins". 7) Fireworks. Yeah, this doesn't really have the same effect if you have no friends, or like aestethics. Your idea of a good time is sitting in alone in your brutalist bunker having mock talks with your smelter. 8) Swimming. While I agree that at level 100, you still have the swim ability of a toddler with a filled diaper, I find myself swimming quite a bit. And who wants to tow along nails, hides etc to build that boat halfway on your exploration for those 20 meters of water crossing? 9) Catapult. You said it yourself: Launch yourself for a great time. Not to mention a great way to transport ores, if you have it set up right. Your lack of inspiration is not the catapults fault. 10) Raft. Easily the BEST thing in the game, all things considered. You can traverse those pieces of water you refuse to swim in prior to unlocking the bronze age, opening basically _the entire map_ before you even have your first pickaxe. Dude... 11) Jute. One of the most sought after goods in my server. There is always a little celebration when the first bit of dropped jute is picked up. Unlike you (and you admit this yourself) some people DO have style. And this being predominantly a building game, you seemed to have missed the point (again). "Ain't nobody have time for that" Except for the most succesful Valheim channels, which *ARE ALL BUILDING CHANNELS* . Again, dude.... 12) Charcoal resin. At this point, it is abundantly clear to me that this game is simply not for you. It is a builders survival game. You refuse to build. Obviously, you're going to dislike core gaming elements such as comfort or style. Go find another game. This one CLEARLY is not for you. 13) Ballistas. Ever heard of mods? Yeah, now they don't kill you. Ever noticed there are creatures in Valheim that also want to kill you? Yeah, so, and this may come as a surprise, the ballista helps you kill those and protect your sweet viking crib. But I get it, you don't have a sweet viking crib. You have your brutalist bunker, and frankly, I too couldn't wait for somebody to help you tear that down. 14) Bones. Again, a style issue. And you don't have any. As hard as this is, you may want to make peace with the fact that this a builder survival game centered around style. A core gameplay mechanic, for instance, is the rested buff, clearly indicating what I said just now: Builder, survival game, in style. 15) Bone throne: AGAIN style. Bro, you are playing the wrong game. And you are clearly an absolutely CLUELESS normie.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Sorry, i think that came out harsher than I thought (just read it back). I was going for that comedic note, but it may have missed here or there. Apologies bro
and i can say 2 : only if you have a high skill issue , bronze buckler at that point is far better plus the parry lol ( you need to be in the bronze age to lvl that bone tower shield lol ) 3 : i do mainhalls all the times , in meadows and plains , and believe me with 800hs , elder buff is pure BS , Eykthir buff helps a lot more in the early transport of the wood when you have no portals , and after that a high chop skill make elder buff even more meaningless 4 : well , the circlet is overrated to me , i found only blind people use it as it should , but other waste a ton of gold to use a lot of them as permanent ugly ilumination lol 10 : raft is only for people that plays in really bad starting seeds , bad for them and ugly taste :) 13 : yeah and you heard about broken mods when the vanilla gets updates ? yeah pretty much people lost their items because that :) for someone that says to other clueless normie , when use a tower shield and raft xd ... what a joker
I agree that anti food like pukeberries and rotten meat can be useless sometimes , but imagine waiting for the backup foods to wear off and eat better foods after you pickup your corpse .
You should have also mentioned how#1 is also a sneaky death trap. I've gotten stuck in the water before and unable to get out because the water stays pretty stable in the swamp and i couldn't climb out because of a broken stair
Smoke bombs are very helpful if a fire spreads in your meadows base or any base outside of Ashlands. I also feel like adding decorative items and aesthetic tools into this is kinda ridiculous. Of course they aren’t used to help you survive. If every single item dropped a recipe for multiple things that would be ridiculous. This is a game that is built around rest, comfort and aesthetic. Those skeletons and the tankards etc… are about adding decor to homes and yourself. It feels silly to put that in this ranking list. If you aren’t much of a builder, don’t include them, they just aren’t applicable here.
I thought the same thing when he mentioned resin since I prefer the Dvergr lanterns and using Surtling trophies on item stands as permanent light sources.
Many players build and use the troll armor. Without knowing that a single dead troll activates the trolls' base attacks. Later in the game, many of the players overestimate the protection of their troll armor.
While tower shields won't be most players' favorite, I will say that they ARE good at doing what they are intended to do: make you tanky and survive tougher fights. I went with a tank build on a multiplayer server with friends as the dedicated front line, and it does block much more damage and prevent stagger more often. But yes, it makes you very slow and you use the advantage of a counter attack parry bonus. In solo play, they are more useless for that reason since it doesn't technically help you kill things to remove the threat, but can help fight in higher biomes than you are gears for
@@SpazzyjonesGaming That's a fair point too. I would hope no one is lagging that much though lol, cause it gives a pretty good window for parrying. If it was a little harder, and they didn't include a massive movement speed debuff, tower shields might be used more in tougher fights.
yep, i generally have a tanky play style, maybe im just dumb and slow, but ive used all the tower shields and they have saved me many times while im trapped in a corner crying for help
I was going to say this was a waste of time since everything is either "If it's not meta it sucks" or "it's only decorative therefore it's useless." but in all honesty this was pretty good insight for me on how I guess for lack of a better term, Normal? meta? players would go through Valheim. on one hand I disagree with many of said choices for useless since it glosses over the fact that many of these decorative items or underpowered items make the gameplay experience better in my opinion. Me and my group of friends never use the wiki and so we have a town board for announcing discoveries for item viability or gameplay mechanics. As a group we make mistakes using or wearing underpowered items and it causes us to engage with the world more to over come the challenges set by Odin. Some of my friends are not builders but they still enjoy adding flair to the bases with decorative items and the builders like myself enjoy creating grand locales for others to marvel at. it might not have a propose to everyone but a lot of people enjoy the roleplaying aspect of things. or for screenshots! seriously nothing is better than getting the perfect screenshot of your group raising your Tankard or Horn in a well made and thought out Long hall. Skål! to those screenshots that will live on forever in our hard-drives and memories But I never had thought about how someone would just... skip many of these items and stick to whatever is the best. It's interesting to say the least. and on that other hand? Yeah wtf, Smoke bombs? useless. Elder power? terrible and needs a rework. swimming skill? it's a useless skill since the wet debuff is so annoying. The raft? yeah... I got nothing other than crossing large rivers easier... but even then just... make a stone bridge with the hoe. Ghosts are just disappointing and also finite weirdly! it's a weird way to play the game from my perspective but a way to enjoy the game none the less. after all at the end of the day our journey ends the same way. Odin's chosen at the gates of Valhalla! echoed through the annals of time as mighty warriors! Skål!
Great write up my man. The video is 100% from a meta perspective and is how I normally play games but I love every single bit of valheim as it's a top 5 all time game for me. Even the non-meta stuff about it. Im surprised by how many people have been offended by the list but is purely for an entertainment or educational perspective. Really not to be taken too seriously. All that said, thanks for taking the time and writing this up and please keep enjoying Valheim exactly how you want to!
6:14 personally i like these pots, they have 3 slots and i use them to store materials for portals or stonecutter. It's faster than search for them in bigger storages and once they're full they cannot be filled with something else
I really disagree on the swimming skill, you don't want to find yourself in water, but that doesn't mean you sometimes won't - and it's great for a lesser stamina reduction!
Swamp wells gives me the impression of a WIP feature. Granted, I've only been playing Valheim since about 2 weeks ago, so I don't know how long it's been in the game.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Do you know if they are planning on implementing a feature for diving underwater, like holding your breath? If so, maybe they are just waiting on another pre-requisite feature which is low priority on their list of tasks before they work on expanding some existing functionality/items/structures like the swamp well.
Catapults can be very useful, if you use them as a way of transportation. If you want to explore the world quickly just set up a few catapults on top of mountains, then you can catapult youself far away without using a ship.
I disagree with your take on the Dvergr circlet. While it indeed is a bit awkward to use when out and about, it's very useful when building in the dark/swamp, or when dungeon delving. Not to mention it makes a great light source when placed on an item stand.
The Tankard use to give a time duration buff on frost, fire and poison resist mead but it was removed. Never understood this decision. Dvergr circlets are useful for passive lighting.
While not top 30 useless, I invite you to take a second look at the crystal battleaxe. It is slow, but it is great at taking out small mobs through the plains. And, it's a fun change of pace. The key is using the middle mouse attack, the poke. This will stun small opponents allowing you to close and finish them before they swing. It is not effective against bigger mobs, trolls, beserkers, lox, bugs, and not great in ashlands either. It is great in the plains to help deal with goblin villages or from being overwhelmed. It is very satisfying to poke a skelly and watch him burn down. I also like spears. :P
Fun tip brothers and sisters! If ANY of your stuff is on FIRE?! You do not have to deconstruct it. If you REPAIR the burning area it will get fixed. Think fire damage on buildings like water damage for regular wood only faster.
Coins just got a bigger purpose due to the bog witch, so honestly in a list of most important things, it would probably be number 2, 1 being the best item in the game, the lox saddle :)
Just thouht about swimming esrlier today while playing. Theres NO way an athletic adult man would swim like a child with broken legs. Really hoping they adjust swimming in the Great North update
Yeah pretty bang on list tbh. Flametal armor's heat resist stat is pretty redundant but the armor stats on it are huge. If you like blocking/parrying the charred warriors, morgen or even valkyries, it's an absolute must
I've actually never had problems with the crude bow. I like to make it so that I can go take on a couple trolls and get the troll set early and then go straight to eikthyr from there
Do you think Tower shields are useless, but then add ghost to your list. You know it would save you from dying from a ghost? A tower shield! Wow, look at that! You shut down the lanterns, which you know has a permanent light source, instead decided to go for torches, and then talk about how useless it’s only fuel source is? Dude… Well, as your number one? That would shit makes no sense. It’s none item. It’s basically a terrain feature! You can make exact same argument about a rock or a bush. They serve no purpose and you could get their resource elsewhere! This is such a terrible list. Your place must be so boring.
i agree with the lanterns but everything else is kinda useless in terms of progress in the game. And how can you even get this angry about some random dude making a list about things he personaly doesnt use and dislikes xD
@@SpazzyjonesGaming yea just make dumb lists like this to ragebait the comments to get the algorythmboost. im gonna tell youtube to not show me your dumb channel again
The flametal armor has saved me more than once when fighting in the ashlands as I focused on a melee build and it helped me tank hits that would've killed me in other armors. Especially when being swarmed or you face a 2 star enemy that would immediately kill you in the ask armor. Like other biomes, it is more based off of preference between sheer tanky defenses or more evasive roll based combat with the ask armor
I can see it being needed for the Deep North as a source of heat/light or maybe as a boat component. Same goes for the flaming sword. It very likely to be a item that will make entry in the Deep North less chilling. Nothing is useless in Valheim, it’s what make this game so great. If I had to make a list: -Hildir’s clothing: the quest are fun but traveling around with chest to get clothing was a big meh -Elder’s power: who uses that ?! For everything else, the Obliterator takes care of it. Can we can "charred bones pile" as a build piece ;)
Great video Spazzy, I would recommend showing less of the later biomes such as mistlands and ashlands because it could spoil some newer players who might want to make everything a surprise for them. Other than that, great video and keep up the good work!
Hard agree on spears, it's a real shame. Why does a weapon designed exclusively for good reach have the worst reach in the game? Tower shields? Disagree, I like them for fighting large groups of enemies at once. The fact that they have no parry, but good non-parry defense makes them good for blocking multiple attacks at a time where parrying them all wouldn't be possible, on top of the knockback they give that makes them good for holding enemies back, they go great in multiplayer when you dedicate yourself to being a tank character.
because is a javeline spear , not a 2 handed traditional spear for the second exist The Atgeir .... really since launch of this game keep seeing people talking shit about the spear and the range when actually there is in the game since launch what they want ( a fking 2 handed ranged spear )
i have to defend the raft here. why. there are seeds where u dont get any blackforest on the starting island and 100% have to build a raft to progress.
Fair. And I've just started getting into some speed running stuff myself in Val and the raft is surprisingly useful for that. A whole new perspective for me
@@SpazzyjonesGaming also another use for the raft, if u just died and dont have a portal (or play whitout )but close to u base, raft is a fast option go back, alternitiv u could play on hardcore and not want to build a new ship everytime u die since ships are expensive.
Agree with all points except elder power & Fishing. Yagluth power is worse than Elder & fishing by catch & release at least nets you some extra resources from reeling all the way in. Easiest way of getting additional loot. You can even get iron from giant herrings in the swamp.
I personally really like the pot for base design, the skeleton for base design, and ghosts are good because they add luck into the trial chambers. For example, if you go into a trial chamber and get only no star skeletons, your fine even in the meadows, but if you go in and get rancid remains or even worse a ghost then based in your difficulty then either your screwed or you may have a challenging fight.
After checking a few of your videos, I'm gonna say: Nah, this isn't controversial, this is just your opinion. A lot of these are decorations and you seem to have a very practical approach to the game, and that's fine.
I personally think the Crystal axe is somewhat useful, you find tons of the crystals so it feels relatively cheap to make while having decent dps, and I keep mine on a holder right next to my door for when I go to chop down my tree farm because I can be chopping down like 6 trees at the same time, not super useful but it’s worked for me XD
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I haven't been a huge user of 2h axes myself for actual combat much so I'm not sure how other ones might fair in terms of dps/cost of crafting for tree farming purposes, or how many people even do large tree farms, so it might just be me. haha. Just figured I'd mention I do that incase others do the same, but I am by no means a pro so I don't want to go misleading people either, just wanted to put my thoughts out there. Keep up the awesome work dude!
I used the Circlet when restarting a familiar seed for ashlands with an old character(left all other gear and weapons on the old seed for now), it was pretty handy in early game going through dungeons.
Coins lose their use in the late game- New Bog-Witch: "AM I A JOKE TO YOU" lmao Your take on Dvrgr Lanterens is CONTROVERSIAL :) LMAO They are our only current eternal source of light in the game- they should buff how much life they make but nothing screams midge like Dvrgr lanterns everywhere in a late game base! To each their own brother
well , these latterns have mid to low ambient light , i did a try filling my great hall with these and no.... still little dark in the night inside lol , so i go back to the sconces .... for outside ilumination the hanging brazier have not match
I have to wonder about the "legendary" flaming sword as it caused my entire viking server to fall apart since different vikings had pieces and no one wanted to cooperate. They need the pieces to respawn or to drop off the current final boss as motivation to continue to kill it.
Dunno... in my experience, the Flametal Tower shield is pretty good, especially when multiple mobs are attacking you and can't bother with timing the parry and it only debuffs you wit -10% movement instead of --20% like other tower shields. I'm using it with Ask set and it works really well in often fighting multiple opponents at once in ashlands. Also, aren't smoke bombs used for creating temporary platforms on lava?
1:42 I buy Dvergr circlet when I don't have anything else to buy from haldor. It helped me in the sunken crypts to see better since its realy dark. I don't mind -helmet once you use it since I allways parry draugr and other mobs.
Agreed, I still use them in the late game when going into Burial chambers and Sunken Crypts for Iron or Surtling Cores. Makes the treasure items easier to see.
I couldn't disagree more with Spears. It has always been my main weapon, except for ashlands. It is absolutely OP vs single targets, it definitely has to most attack speed out of any melee weapon in the game and has similar damage to other melee weapons. It's the perfect weapon to go with a buckler, and a flint spear is more than enough to get you a full troll armor set. As for the retrieval, always carry a second weapon just in case, but I have rarely ever had trouble retrieving it since I only ever use it to get sneak damage on a foe before engaging. That being said, it is mostly for single target, so I can see that complaint, but still don't agree that it's bad.
I disagree with tower shields. It’s very helpful when exploring and fighting new mobs. 0:54 Yes there is a movement penalty but I often just un-equip it and run if needed. Parrying is easy yes but the tower shield allows you to become a literal tank.
i dindt like them because you can still get knocked back. If you were imune to that i would consider using it with friends. In my opinion you can get conered way too easily with it because you just get pushed around. And with some creatures having stupid path findings i often have no stamina for smaler chases.
the raft is actually usefull, in my last save the first boss was on the other side of a strange generated river/sea so i couldnt reach the other side by swimming
So with full flametal armor and ashen cape at their max upgrades atm you get 142 armor, enemies can still bloody you quite abit, but I honestly enjoy thw durability it brings, especially with bonemass while im assaulting a fortress, but I will concede that the heat resist feels somewhat negligible 😂
A lot of the items on here are of the decorative nature, which yeah if you're not a builder def would be useless. For me personally, things like Fireworks, Jute, and tankards...I can't get enough of them! I need all of them to make my place look amazing. Same with the lanterns. It's just fun to carry! Coins desperately need a new use tho. Like. Some kind of gold sink or renewable source to spend them on. And Ballistas are amazing for my mountain castle for the dragons that I cant get to stop spawning!
It's really not that bad lol, it shoots consistently so just learn how to aim it. I learned pretty fast and used it exclusively as my weapon until the first boss was dead
Spears are literally my favorite weapon. They aren't very annoying to use after you get a good understanding of their hit box and they are the second highest dps in the game which is boosted even further when you consider many enemies are weak to pierce. If you have a spear and frostnwr with you then you can shred most enemies in the game.
I disagree with spears personally, been using them along with a parry shield for a new play through and its been great. The secondary attack can be super quick if you're close to someone and staggers every time. Only swapped over when I had enough to get a maxed black metal atgeir
Idk if it was changed recently or not, but the flametal armour made me immune to the boiling ocean, havent jumped in lava with it so idk about that, but maybe it was changed? Ive only had the game a week
I don't agree AT ALL! 1. You pointed Crude Bow as a useless item, but this is not useless, it's low-grade weapon. You can't have any other ranged weapon except throwing spears, so this is the only bow you can use to kill first boss cuz you can use Fire Arrows to deal elemental damage. Yeah, it's very unaccurate, but the better the bow, the more accurate it is. The draugr bow (that cause poison,) and Iron bow, are very accurate, but you have to proceeed to get them. 2. You can't put Elder Head in "The most useless items", cuz without it you can't to progress. Also, this is not regular item. You use it only as a trophy on the Circle of Stones. You will not use it further in crafting, so this is very wrong to put this thing to the "Useless items" list. You can put there it's ultimate, but even it is not that useless. I used Eiktur Power for the most of the game cuz there are many isels to explore, but after the first boss, when you go into the Forest, I used that force A LOT cuz I need MANY white wood (i forgot the name of the trees that you need to craft portals). You need to craft: Portals (20 wood), Ship (30 wood), Bow + upgrades, Iron Chests (10 wood each and 2 iron), decorations for improving Rest Buff, Cogs to brew potions, and maybe something else. And trust me, it's huge difference when you chop down an Oak Tree without this buff and with it. Also, you will need MANY Birch trees to get many wood planks, and it's faster to do it with this buff. Also, when you want to build a base in the Steppes, you will need many Pine Trees to build spikes, and you may want to prepare for that Biome and fill the cart with a pine wood before going there. 3. Bronze Armor. I can agree that this armor I never use right now because I use Troll Set, but I have to disagree, that it's useless. The copper vein is much easier to find, than Trolls. And even despite I used Leather Set till the momen I kill Trolls with the bows, to craft Troll Set, I'm an experienced player, who knows how to play. When I was a noob and played the game for the first time, I used Bronze Armor Set and it helped me to survive trolls attack and trolls events where they were attacking my base. New or Noobish players will definitely find this armor useful. 4. Swimming. I had vew situations where I died cuz of bad swimming skill, or low stamina. How that happened? 2 times I died in a fight with a Ocean Snake. It hit the boat and I got damage also. Then, I was thrown away from my boat and died cuz I had insufficient stamina to get back to my boat. The other things why it's not useless (I'm not talking about it's very useful, but I'm talking that it's not that bad as you say), is that it helps you in the beginning of the game to scout the isle. When you don't have access to cooked food and Steppes berries, you have to rely either on High Stamina, or Swimming Skill to swim big rivers between isles. The other case when I use this skill is the Swamp Biomes. It's very useful to save 5-10 stamina in swimming the swamps and have something to dodge Ghost attack. It's also useful in harvesting shells on the Leviathans back, when it goes under water. 5. Ghosts. You can't put enemies to this tier list, cuz every enemy has it's own strengthes on certain stages of the game. Ghosts are very annoying, especially when you try to find these cubes to build Stome Smelter. I died MANY times cuz ghosts deal very high damage and it's almsot impossible to block their attack with wooden shield. It also hard to track their attack as a beginner, and they are very resistent to any normal attack. So I don't agree that this enemy is useless. 6. Spears. Sadly, I have to agree with the moment that they can't hit piles that spawns Skeletons or Draugrs. This is bad. But at the other hand, they have very high attack speed, and can be thrown. But my attitude to these spears is like a Legionare with Pillum, who use it to weakening your opponent and then use your main weapon. It's useful in the beginning of the game to hunt deers, and if you really want to have a good use if Spears, you need to have several spears with you. The other problem is that they can take many inventory slots. The problem with them is that you need to put more effort to realise them. And I want to have maximum free inventory slots available and use more universal weapon. It's like Trolls have weakness to Pierce damage and it's very efficient to strike them with Dagger from the back, but when I have a Bronze Shield, I just block their damage and hit in melee without wasting time on backstab. 7. Resign. You can't put this item there cuz it's a part of many recipes. It used to fuel torches and build boats. It's a low-grade resource that you will use even in the future when you will buld bronze torches. I wouldn't put it in this list. 8. Bronze\Iron Arrows. I will agree that these arrows use precious Bronze and Iron, but I will not agree to put them there, cuz they have noticable damage difference. I don't use arrows on enemies that have resistance to Pierce Armor, so the difference in damage is noticable. I can say, that Bronze Arrows are the most useless cuz you spend a lot of time to mine Copper, but I can't agree with Iron Arrows cuz you find them in the chests in the Swamps so you don't craft them and don't use resources. 9. RAFT. No, no, and one more time NO! It's not Useless. It's 1st lvl boat that you WILL USE when you forgot to register your respawn point in the bed on a new isle and you don't have Copper Axe to chop down Birch Trees to build a new Long Boat. Also, it needs the very basic resources that you can find in Meadows in case if you registered a point on the isle far away from your main base, and you want to get home or to the isle where you died. This boat is a Life Saver for those situations. Even I do so stupid mistakes of not building a bed on a new unknown isle. 10. Fishing Rod. It's a part of game mechanic. You just throw away fish that is used in the cooking recipes. Now. What I want to add to your list: 1. Trophies. You didn't sayd anything about trophies that enemies drops. You can use them for decor, but to be honest, I would always skip Deer, Boar, Draugr, Troll trophies cuz I don't like them. There can be only few exceptions: - Deer Trophy is need to call the Eiktur - Troll, Draugr, Wyvern, and other trophies are needed to craft fishing baits to fishing in those Biomes. 2. Fishing baits for other biomes. You can use regular baits to fish in your Meadow biome and get the fish. The difference between meadow fish and fish from the other biomes, is the quantity of fish you get, what means, you can save some time on fishing, but I don't think you will need so many fish that you will craft Draugr Fish Bait to go to the Swamps and fish there. 3. Dandelions. Despite you need them to craft some potions, decorative yellow flag, and Spice Rack for upgrading your cooking pot to lvl 2, I rarely harvest them. I just got enough from Brutes that some at night to my base.
me with almost 1000 hs in this game i can say that you are wrong in so many points bro ... 2. really , for the duration of the elder buff dont help AT ALL for all these things you said , eikthyr actually is FAR more useful to transport all the wood you need in meadows and black forest , and dont help lvl faster your chop skill , so still useless 3. sorry what ? hows that trolls are hard to find ? bro i fulled so many times troll set at fullest lvl for black forest far before than even full bronze helmet ( that part of the set is actually useful ) the defense diference is very pitty and the speed debuff is real shit for the swamp :) , iron armor have like twice the defense and that saves it 5.- Spazzy points this monster because DONT DROP A N Y T H I N G ....thats why is useless 8.- bro....for real these arrows are not that good for the precious metal you waste there , you can go easily flint arrows until get obsidian just when craft the iron pick axe to craft elemental arrows ....so , metal arrows are fucking a waste , big brain time is not your thing huh 9.- only you can craft a raft if you play a blindsway world seed and starts in a tiny troll meadow island , for the rest you excuse that thing , better craft a back up gear to not get naked where you died :)
Spears are weird, and just kind of under-developed. They're actually pretty good throughout most of the game, though. They're usually one of the easiest upgrades to get in each tier, and while the single attack is kind of boring (and as you mentioned, there is a problem with targeting at certain levels), they're still quite comparable in damage through the end of the game. In fact, in some ways they do more damage because they have such a quick, consistent attack. Many other weapons you have to cancel before their 3rd attack (power swing) or risk getting hit, anyway. And the way they're balanced is that the first two are usually slightly weaker than a spear attack, with the 3rd overtaking it... if you ever actually get it off. But on average, I actually find I do more damage with the spear against anything that isn't strong against piercing, compared to basically every other weapon.
I bet this list is going to be controversial! ROAST ME in the comments!
No, i agree.
Also, i find candle sticks from haldor to be useless as well.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming The fact that you spat salt on my red/blue jute was wild bruv. Mah boi here just a bonk man.
@@barbawillow8904id wager the cart is a better tool than the raft for underwater terrain/building
Oooh I think this might be an unpopular opinion!
A raft saved my life once, just sayin'
Good call, didn't even think about that
now that sounds interesting
The swamp key is also a great passive light source.
@@kongvealsurvives true but I like how the circlet has a bit of directionality to its light. It makes it sort like a spotlight.
@wallstreetjesus7142 That is true. I like that aspect of it too.
Good point. That's where you and I differ. I am a TERRIBLE builder hahaha so I can completely understand you feeling differently
i love the building and decorations but i think the way to get to the needed materials is just super anoying.
Okay, I said enough, I need to get back to using my circlet so I can build at night... ;)
@@jphendo yea if you have friends who enjoy a part that you dont its really nice. Unfortunatly i dont have any :*(
I don't get playing a building game if you don't build lol
Lets do a "most useless list" for every survival craft ever.
1. First versions of weapons, armor, and transport that can possibly be skipped by an experienced player.
2. Any gear that isn't META that come out relatively close to said META gear.
3. Any currency that you eventually will have too much of.
4. Any gear that is more expensive to craft that doesn't outshine it's alternatives.
5. Any aesthetic or purely fun item.
There ya go. Did your job for anything else in this genre that you may choose to do.
Jokes aside, you made some good points.
i mean you're not wrong haha
You think tower shields are more useful than spears? the crude bow is more useful than a whole armor set? i would say thats Yagulth's power is more useless than elders. I think half of this list is you being a bad builder
😆
I am a terrible builder haha. I full expect to take some heat for this list hahah
@Scratch4Fun it's not a hate comment lol he's a member and Spazzy has actively asked to he roasted
@SpazzyjonesGaming why are you using the elder ability lol 4:46
Hahah you're right. I fully expect people to disagree with this list quite a bit but that's okay.
Bone throne is at least badass looking
Man, the raft has insane memories, me and ny friends lost our longboat after the portal got obliterated by some mobs, now we had to use a radt to go from spawn to mistlands lmao, imagine the pain of navigating through a storm with a massive sea serpent chasing us
Terrifying!
Ancient Seeds. FFS you only need three for the entire game and once you've done Bonemass you get that many every single night at your base camp. Far more frustrating than the bukeberries because they at least have a use.
They just become coal in Thors trash can lol
@@TheRyepoog True story. Along with all the other useless sh*t the meadows throw at you every night lol.
Ancient seeds could only drop from spawners and I wouldn't even be mad tbh
@@Variethan They drop from greydwarf brutes and are only slightly less common than bukeberries.
Good one,!
I respect it. I personally just never use it. This list is subjective as hell so I completely understand people disagreeing
I liked the circlet until i got the wisplight lol
@@NebulaSaucer oh agreed. But the circlet def wasn’t useless.
@joshuadempsey5281 eh, the visibility in the chambers/crypts isn't so bad that you need the light. So the circlet is pretty useless. If it was darker then sure, but it's not lol.
@@Variethan yeah ive always navigated them fine without a light but it for sure can help
Thing with Elder power is that, the time/energy you save with it, you will expend when you go back to the stonecircle to excange it for eikthir or a higher level power.
thats a good way to think about it. I can't argue with that
@@carlpult5235 i get your point but if you wanna use them efficient use a portal... it will take like 20 sek to change the power and save you 2min at least
@@carlpult5235 i get what you mean lol
Oh boy, the swamp wells (...didn't know what they were called when I found the first one) were a disappointment. You see the torch marking the site, you close in, you see the building and think "cool, a dungeon", and then ... nothing. Sad, really, culd have been something.
i know! SO disappointing
The morgen or asksvin will smash them for you.
good tips!
The elder buff is extremely good unless you're a solo player building small shit shacks or abuse x times gather rates. The raft is nice to build when you need to cross a larger body of water on the go and is also used for some speedrun strats.
good points. I can't argue much with those
Missed opportunities:
- Using fireworks as a weapon, Gunpowder era lol, or have rows of it mounted like a Hwacha which makes it a nice base defense
- Using coins to hire Dvergr as mercenaries
- Can't grow jute
@@l0remipsum991 I wanna use the fireworks and a feather cape to go flying, Minecraft style
Coins being smelted down for brass.
Totally agree on all fronts
i wish the goblins had to retrieve their spears after chucking it at me, kind of funny to watch if you get a bunch of em together and turn on some Three Stooges sound track lol
Haha it's only fair right. I mean we have to pick up our spears after throwing them
Dwerger circlet allows you to construct a base with 0 light sources, significantly reducing the number of entities.
fair point
Ballistas are very good for defending coastal camps against Trolls who will always try to go around your palisades through the water and destroy your camp when you least expect.
ooh I can see that
I love that you still make Valheim content in 2024!
I do my best! Glad you appreciate it 😁
So, not a speed run tatic but, bronze armor makes a great backup for iron, as all level 4 tank armor is that same as level 1 of the next tier, so if I die in iron age, I can grab my level 4 bronze and at least be at level 1 iron Defense. But, I also like to make EVERYTHING, LOL.
Nice. I respect it!
Me and my friend use bukeberries as a tool of war, we leave bukeberries strewn all over each others bases ,and sometimes throw them at each other , just to take up inventory space XD Its a subtle tool of malice !
thats amazing haha
the differences in what the community feels has been useful to them and not to others is exactly why I love this game so much, everyone finding out how to play the game for themselves, and figuring out how they wanna play with the tools given.
really well said sanswag! I couldn't agree more
I agree about the Elder power- I never use it. Maybe if it added a weight reduction for wood so you can load up and carry more it would be way more useful. I agree with the vast majority of items on this list.
Yeah I think it has its uses but it could use a bit more. Maybe also apply to mining or something? But that added that to the queen so I don't know
So many forsaken powers need to be rework.
Nah, Elder buff is the best buff in the game! lol Honestly, I do use it quite a bit when I am chopping down my tree farms.
@@kongvealsurvives I may try that the next time I am on. I planted 25 birch trees so we'll see.
Being able to get like two great chests of wood in just seven minutes is a great power, thank you elder
all great points
when one gets high chop skill the elder buff is pretty worthless
Yeah... the circlet is a down spotlight... wells that are higher above ground level can save you from a sudden raid in the swamp...catapults can be mining tools... fireworks are for parties with friends... decorative pieces have intrinsic value... I still run out of resin... A list for people who live/playthrough in a very small box?

I use the tower shield often. I'll hold it up in cramped dungeons while my team mates use a sledge to destroy enemies from behind me.
nice. every squad needs a tank!
If I could change the Elder’s Forsaken power, I’d improve (or at least clarify) the woodcutting ability, do the same for mining, and have wood, stone, and ores weigh less in your inventory.
Agreed
I will say, 1 stack of bukeperries is useful to keep around base for when you want to change foods or go off with a fresh charge (fighting bosses for example)
and I agree, ashlands has shown how much we need extra inventory space, haldor needs a mission of his own with item unlocks that are stronger bonuses (and potentially locking meringjord behind the first one?)
Give haldor a bigger belt!!!
Oh dang! You must have had a big stockpile of materials for all the ballistas and missles
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Well, we did not arrive to the ashlands before day 400 and did quite some grinding.
Okay, my opinion time -
30 - Crude bow - agreed, but unless you want to do log rolling, you have no choice.
(Maybe need to adjust that cost, but the idea is sound IMHO.)
22 - Bronze armor - agreed 100%. Never made it once.
21 - Resin - Needed, but not in those quantities. I suggest deleting it from the drops of greydwarfs,
20 - Fireworks - Just a way to spend coins.
That's not too bad. Mostly aligned! Thanks for taking the time to leave this comment! 😃
its so facinating how different the game is for everyone and every playthrough changes your understanding of the game. at first i built tower shilds - they had better stats. I always built the bronze armor - had better stats too. I never used dvergr circlets because i wanted meginjord and forgot there was somthing else in the shop. I slowly realise everytime i play it how much more efficient i couldve been.
@@mathsm8910 Tru dat!
can't agree with the resin, we have a massive main base and one cycle of torches ressuply could easily take about 10-12 stacks of it. and there are another, smaller bases too. our resin chest is always half empty😅
pukeberries/rotten meat going straight to the trash bin, which give them unexpected roleplay value, when you actually need to change food from base builder to battle ration, you go to the dumpster and eat rotten meat from it like some kind of hobo, lol
I thought the bronze pickaxe would be mentioned, man it's the most useless tool upgrade as you can keep using the antler pickaxe all the way down to the iron age and can use a level 1 workbench to repair it.
thats a good one. the bronze age in general is pretty lackluster
Edit: coins only become useful when you run with the epicloot mod (pair with creaturelevelandlootcontrol) -- highly recommended.
appreciate you saying that! this list has been controversial
-Flametal armor is useful because with some health food and potions, it turns you into a near-unkillable tank. It's a much more chill way to play than constantly dodging
-Lanterns are the only infinite-fuel light source with a decent level of brightness No one likes fueling torches for the hundredth time, plus they look way nicer
-Elder power is useful if you are in need of a lot of wood, just pop it and go berserker mode on some trees, then hop in the spawn portal and swap back to bonemass or eikthyr.
Fair enough!
I heard one of the developers say that if your stuff is on fire it's better to just repair it and it instantly stops the fire
dang! have I been breaking stuff for no reason all this time???
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I just found out today
@@chrono2959 nice. thanks for the info
Next thing you know, dude will be saying that Item stands are also useless. As a builder, I have to disagree with a bunch of these.
Yeah that's fair. I'm not a builder at all so it's severely skewed towards non builders
*drops mic, exits stage left*
6) Resin.
And you are clearly an absolutely CLUELESS normie.
damn you're not very nice hahahha
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Sorry, i think that came out harsher than I thought (just read it back). I was going for that comedic note, but it may have missed here or there. Apologies bro
@@Flyingdutchy33 haha don't sweat it man. Im not offended. This video is by far the most controversial I've made
and i can say
2 : only if you have a high skill issue , bronze buckler at that point is far better plus the parry lol ( you need to be in the bronze age to lvl that bone tower shield lol )
3 : i do mainhalls all the times , in meadows and plains , and believe me with 800hs , elder buff is pure BS , Eykthir buff helps a lot more in the early transport of the wood when you have no portals , and after that a high chop skill make elder buff even more meaningless
4 : well , the circlet is overrated to me , i found only blind people use it as it should , but other waste a ton of gold to use a lot of them as permanent ugly ilumination lol
10 : raft is only for people that plays in really bad starting seeds , bad for them and ugly taste :)
13 : yeah and you heard about broken mods when the vanilla gets updates ? yeah pretty much people lost their items because that :)
for someone that says to other clueless normie , when use a tower shield and raft xd ... what a joker
I agree that anti food like pukeberries and rotten meat can be useless sometimes , but imagine waiting for the backup foods to wear off and eat better foods after you pickup your corpse .
That's a good point
You should have also mentioned how#1 is also a sneaky death trap. I've gotten stuck in the water before and unable to get out because the water stays pretty stable in the swamp and i couldn't climb out because of a broken stair
Hahah good point
Smoke bombs are very helpful if a fire spreads in your meadows base or any base outside of Ashlands. I also feel like adding decorative items and aesthetic tools into this is kinda ridiculous. Of course they aren’t used to help you survive. If every single item dropped a recipe for multiple things that would be ridiculous. This is a game that is built around rest, comfort and aesthetic. Those skeletons and the tankards etc… are about adding decor to homes and yourself. It feels silly to put that in this ranking list. If you aren’t much of a builder, don’t include them, they just aren’t applicable here.
i find repairing or destroy structures work better with dealing with fire than smoke bombs personally
Tower shields come in handy for me when I’m fighting bosses solo. Fought moder recently and did it with a sword and tower shield
that makes sense
coins are neat to get some insta coal when you out of wood or coal and need some coal asap just put 10 coins into obliterator and boom 1 coal so ez
You know what. I never considered that. Good one!
I thought the same thing when he mentioned resin since I prefer the Dvergr lanterns and using Surtling trophies on item stands as permanent light sources.
I totally agree with the list, let's just hope they will tweak these items for the future and they will become useful. 😉
We can only hope!
Many players build and use the troll armor.
Without knowing that a single dead troll activates the trolls' base attacks.
Later in the game, many of the players overestimate the protection of their troll armor.
absolutely, troll armor expires fast
While tower shields won't be most players' favorite, I will say that they ARE good at doing what they are intended to do: make you tanky and survive tougher fights. I went with a tank build on a multiplayer server with friends as the dedicated front line, and it does block much more damage and prevent stagger more often. But yes, it makes you very slow and you use the advantage of a counter attack parry bonus. In solo play, they are more useless for that reason since it doesn't technically help you kill things to remove the threat, but can help fight in higher biomes than you are gears for
I'm my experience they are good when there is lag making parrying difficult
Skål! to those screenshots that will live on forever in our hard-drives and memories
But I never had thought about how someone would just... skip many of these items and stick to whatever is the best.
It's faster than search for them in bigger storages and once they're full they cannot be filled with something else
thats fair!
I use them for death run stamina foods.
I really disagree on the swimming skill, you don't want to find yourself in water, but that doesn't mean you sometimes won't - and it's great for a lesser stamina reduction!
thats fair!
Swamp wells gives me the impression of a WIP feature. Granted, I've only been playing Valheim since about 2 weeks ago, so I don't know how long it's been in the game.
you would think so. They've been there since 2021 unfortunately and still no purpose :(
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Do you know if they are planning on implementing a feature for diving underwater, like holding your breath? If so, maybe they are just waiting on another pre-requisite feature which is low priority on their list of tasks before they work on expanding some existing functionality/items/structures like the swamp well.
@@ShadowVipers i don't know of one. that would be cool though!
Catapults can be very useful, if you use them as a way of transportation. If you want to explore the world quickly just set up a few catapults on top of mountains, then you can catapult youself far away without using a ship.
Man you can actually fly Sooooo far
I disagree with your take on the Dvergr circlet. While it indeed is a bit awkward to use when out and about, it's very useful when building in the dark/swamp, or when dungeon delving. Not to mention it makes a great light source when placed on an item stand.
No worries. I can see the value in it for sure. I never buy it but I could be sleeping on it's potential
The Tankard use to give a time duration buff on frost, fire and poison resist mead but it was removed. Never understood this decision. Dvergr circlets are useful for passive lighting.
oh for real? I don't even remember that
While not top 30 useless, I invite you to take a second look at the crystal battleaxe.
Haha I will give the battleaxe another try!
Tower Shields are good in party combat, one of you blocks the damage and the other attacks ;D works well for surviving
i can see that
Fun tip brothers and sisters!
If ANY of your stuff is on FIRE?!
You do not have to deconstruct it. If you REPAIR the burning area it will get fixed.
Think fire damage on buildings like water damage for regular wood only faster.
That's a great tip! 👍
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Heard it on PodHeim
Coins just got a bigger purpose due to the bog witch, so honestly in a list of most important things, it would probably be number 2, 1 being the best item in the game, the lox saddle :)
very good point. Coins are much more worthwhile now
Just thouht about swimming esrlier today while playing. Theres NO way an athletic adult man would swim like a child with broken legs. Really hoping they adjust swimming in the Great North update
hahah I know right
Yeah pretty bang on list tbh.
Flametal armor's heat resist stat is pretty redundant but the armor stats on it are huge. If you like blocking/parrying the charred warriors, morgen or even valkyries, it's an absolute must
Thank you! Oh yeah, flametal certainly can be useful. Personally, I very rarely wear the heavy armor
I've actually never had problems with the crude bow. I like to make it so that I can go take on a couple trolls and get the troll set early and then go straight to eikthyr from there
thats fair. i prefer the flint spear
Dude…
Well, as your number one? That would shit makes no sense. It’s none item. It’s basically a terrain feature! You can make exact same argument about a rock or a bush. They serve no purpose and you could get their resource elsewhere!
This is such a terrible list. Your place must be so boring.
I knew this list would get some people going 😂
i agree with the lanterns but everything else is kinda useless in terms of progress in the game. And how can you even get this angry about some random dude making a list about things he personaly doesnt use and dislikes xD
@@mathsm8910 i know right !🤣

The flametal armor has saved me more than once when fighting in the ashlands as I focused on a melee build and it helped me tank hits that would've killed me in other armors. Especially when being swarmed or you face a 2 star enemy that would immediately kill you in the ask armor. Like other biomes, it is more based off of preference between sheer tanky defenses or more evasive roll based combat with the ask armor
absolutely. Always preference and I respect your choice! This is is extremely subjective and personal to me :)
Well its fair to say after the bog witch update coins are now insanely valuable
Absolutely facts. Nice to have a place to spend that coin
i cannot believe charcoal resin cant be used to make torches that never go out, it just feels like wasted potential
I agree. It's shocking to me it doesn't serve a greater purpose
I can see it being needed for the Deep North as a source of heat/light or maybe as a boat component.
Same goes for the flaming sword. It very likely to be a item that will make entry in the Deep North less chilling.
Nothing is useless in Valheim, it’s what make this game so great. If I had to make a list:
-Hildir’s clothing: the quest are fun but traveling around with chest to get clothing was a big meh
-Elder’s power: who uses that ?!
Thanks melo!
I definitely see more of an argument for towers shields in multiplayer. Good for the tank player
because is a javeline spear , not a 2 handed traditional spear
for the second exist The Atgeir .... really since launch of this game keep seeing people talking shit about the spear and the range when actually there is in the game since launch what they want ( a fking 2 handed ranged spear )
Crude bow is amazing! I rarely miss with it, and wood arrows are easy to make on the run. It’s an A-tier for me. Spear is annoying.
You must be a pro!
4:17 Bro no joke. Started a new world and the TWO nearest Eikthyr spawners were on a separate island. The raft was forced.
YEP!
i have to defend the raft here. why. there are seeds where u dont get any blackforest on the starting island and 100% have to build a raft to progress.
The spears are good! They hit quicker than every fast hitting mob. The fang spear can stagger a wolf or fuling even if it gets the jump on you.
True. There is an argument to be made
Agree with all points except elder power & Fishing. Yagluth power is worse than Elder & fishing by catch & release at least nets you some extra resources from reeling all the way in. Easiest way of getting additional loot. You can even get iron from giant herrings in the swamp.
Good point on the extra materials while fishing
I personally really like the pot for base design, the skeleton for base design, and ghosts are good because they add luck into the trial chambers. For example, if you go into a trial chamber and get only no star skeletons, your fine even in the meadows, but if you go in and get rancid remains or even worse a ghost then based in your difficulty then either your screwed or you may have a challenging fight.
Respect. If only I were a better builder 🤣
Sorry I don't speak the language 😭
After checking a few of your videos, I'm gonna say: Nah, this isn't controversial, this is just your opinion.
A lot of these are decorations and you seem to have a very practical approach to the game, and that's fine.
appreciate you understanding!
I personally think the Crystal axe is somewhat useful, you find tons of the crystals so it feels relatively cheap to make while having decent dps, and I keep mine on a holder right next to my door for when I go to chop down my tree farm because I can be chopping down like 6 trees at the same time, not super useful but it’s worked for me XD
thats fair. I haven't used it much myself
@@SpazzyjonesGaming I haven't been a huge user of 2h axes myself for actual combat much so I'm not sure how other ones might fair in terms of dps/cost of crafting for tree farming purposes, or how many people even do large tree farms, so it might just be me. haha. Those burial chambers are pretty damn dark
Coins lose their use in the late game- New Bog-Witch: "AM I A JOKE TO YOU" lmao
Your take on Dvrgr Lanterens is CONTROVERSIAL :) LMAO They are our only current eternal source of light in the game- they should buff how much life they make but nothing screams midge like Dvrgr lanterns everywhere in a late game base! To each their own brother

well , these latterns have mid to low ambient light , i did a try filling my great hall with these and no.... still little dark in the night inside lol , so i go back to the sconces .... for outside ilumination the hanging brazier have not match
I used the catapult and explosive loads to mine flametal, you get a lot more before it sinks.
I have heard of people doing that
Its interesting that you prefer basic torches as you light source, but then also have resin on the list as useless. 😂
Lolol. Bit of a conflict
I have to wonder about the "legendary" flaming sword as it caused my entire viking server to fall apart since different vikings had pieces and no one wanted to cooperate. They need the pieces to respawn or to drop off the current final boss as motivation to continue to kill it.
Oh that sucks. Yeah it's a bit disappointing that you can only craft one per server
The grausten payload should be near the top of the list.
good one! All the payloads fit nicely with the catapult on this list
Dunno... in my experience, the Flametal Tower shield is pretty good, especially when multiple mobs are attacking you and can't bother with timing the parry and it only debuffs you wit -10% movement instead of --20% like other tower shields.
I'm using it with Ask set and it works really well in often fighting multiple opponents at once in ashlands.
Also, aren't smoke bombs used for creating temporary platforms on lava?
Nah the basalt bombs are used for creating platforms
A raft was needed when we had no Eithyr summoner on the starting island, so we had to sail to the neighbouring one😅 but that was the only case
pain!
Totally fair. If you have the extra gold, why not!
@@nikolaiandersson6024 yes those that are on the ground
Good points. It's absolutely a polarizing opinion
I disagree with tower shields. It’s very helpful when exploring and fighting new mobs. 0:54
Yes there is a movement penalty but I often just un-equip it and run if needed. Parrying is easy yes but the tower shield allows you to become a literal tank.
Totally fair. Tower shields are great when dealing with lag and stuff too when parrying is difficult
i dindt like them because you can still get knocked back.
Nice!
Hahah we can agree on the heat resistance at least
A lot of the items on here are of the decorative nature, which yeah if you're not a builder def would be useless.
For me personally, things like Fireworks, Jute, and tankards...I can't get enough of them! I need all of them to make my place look amazing. Same with the lanterns. It's just fun to carry!
Coins desperately need a new use tho. Like. Some kind of gold sink or renewable source to spend them on. And Ballistas are amazing for my mountain castle for the dragons that I cant get to stop spawning!
Definitely. Admittely, I am not much of a builder so I tend not to value those things so highly and completely understand when people disagree
Bro for real on the gold sink. Like cosmetics at the very least. Lemme buy iron and it’s a wrap.
I feel like I'm the only person in existence that finds the crude bow significantly easier to use than the flint spear.
Oh for real? It definitely has more range
@SpazzyjonesGaming Yeah that's probably what it boils down to.
It's really not that bad lol, it shoots consistently so just learn how to aim it. I learned pretty fast and used it exclusively as my weapon until the first boss was dead
I feel like most, if not all of these are because you either don't enjoy that aspect of the game or just don't care about looks, no offense
no offense taken. Its a completely subjective list. Personally I'm not a big builder
Spears are literally my favorite weapon. They aren't very annoying to use after you get a good understanding of their hit box and they are the second highest dps in the game which is boosted even further when you consider many enemies are weak to pierce. If you have a spear and frostnwr with you then you can shred most enemies in the game.
im with you. spears have grown on my BIG time since I released this video. big fan nowadays
I disagree with spears personally, been using them along with a parry shield for a new play through and its been great. The secondary attack can be super quick if you're close to someone and staggers every time. Only swapped over when I had enough to get a maxed black metal atgeir
Yeah that's a controversial one. Many people live and die by the spear
Idk if it was changed recently or not, but the flametal armour made me immune to the boiling ocean, havent jumped in lava with it so idk about that, but maybe it was changed? Ive only had the game a week
they buffed it I believe
@@SpazzyjonesGaming yeah, I would say that the armour is a lot more valuable now that it saves your life lol
I don't agree AT ALL!
1. You pointed Crude Bow as a useless item, but this is not useless, it's low-grade weapon. You can't have any other ranged weapon except throwing spears, so this is the only bow you can
use to kill first boss cuz you can use Fire Arrows to deal elemental damage.
Now. What I want to add to your list:
1. Trophies. You didn't sayd anything about trophies that enemies drops. You can use them for decor, but to be honest, I would always skip Deer, Boar, Draugr, Troll trophies cuz I don't like them. There can be only few exceptions:
- Deer Trophy is need to call the Eiktur
- Troll, Draugr, Wyvern, and other trophies are needed to craft fishing baits to fishing in those Biomes.
I just got enough from Brutes that some at night to my base.
thats fair. Unfortunately, I can't read all this but yes, its a very subjective list
me with almost 1000 hs in this game i can say that you are wrong in so many points bro ...
2. really , for the duration of the elder buff dont help AT ALL for all these things you said , eikthyr actually is FAR more useful to transport all the wood you need in meadows and black forest , and dont help lvl faster your chop skill , so still useless
3. sorry what ? hows that trolls are hard to find ? bro i fulled so many times troll set at fullest lvl for black forest far before than even full bronze helmet ( that part of the set is actually useful ) the defense diference is very pitty and the speed debuff is real shit for the swamp :) , iron armor have like twice the defense and that saves it
5.- Spazzy points this monster because DONT DROP A N Y T H I N G ....thats why is useless
8.- bro....for real these arrows are not that good for the precious metal you waste there , you can go easily flint arrows until get obsidian just when craft the iron pick axe to craft elemental arrows ....so , metal arrows are fucking a waste , big brain time is not your thing huh
9.- only you can craft a raft if you play a blindsway world seed and starts in a tiny troll meadow island , for the rest you excuse that thing , better craft a back up gear to not get naked where you died :)
Yeah there are some advantages to the spear for sure
honestly love the tower shields mainly because i have issues parrying (eye issues mainly) also spears are just fun XD
Totally fair. Tower shields are also really good when dealing with lag making parrying even more difficult
i left valheim for almost a year and boy o boy swam wells were such a scam
Such scams!
