@@dwsnz They still had a lot of blank and WIP spots there concerning what each merit ranked offered you. And the powerplay weapons. I know a lot of folks, myself included, are still missing 1 or 2 and I haven't been able to find out how it's going to work with 2.0. I'm hoping the info they drop tomorrow is a bit more detailed then what they had in the video. I know they had to trim it down to keep the stream from running extra long. Hopefully, if I can log on tonight, I'll get the merits needed to get the last PP weapon I actually want. The placeholders of "Something you'd want" and "Something you'd really want" interest me quite a bit...lol
As a Fuel Rat everything here looks like a dream. Anaconda, or internally referred to as "Rataconda" has been the go to Long range rescue ship for many of us, but turning around an entire football field when your destination is behind you isn't exactly enjoyable. Looking forward to kitting one of these out for Rescuing stranded CMDRs.
not to forget the efficiency on a fuel tank of lighter ships like the Krait phantom always offered, allowing you to go further on the same size fuel tanks without having to scoop, having that in a ship that is truly class leading in terms of jump range is a long distance travel dream.
I would like to see the Mandalay's aesthetics on a combat ship, perhaps even a combat variant of it. That said its hardpoint layout seems particularly suited to AX using gauss.
I play almost exclusively in VR, and love the Krait Phantom for long trips in the black. This will sound odd, but all the windows in the Krait starts to make me feel a little exposed after weeks out there (same with ASP X.) This new Mandalay looks perfectly cozy and badass, in addition to actually being badass regarding jump range and efficiency. I am so ready to watch Blade Runner in VR in my Mandalay heading to the top of the Galaxy!
@@thepathnotfound I used the HP Reverb for years which is excellent, though Windows Mixed Reality is a bit troublesome (WMR is discontinued now). I am very excited to hook up my bigscreen beyond that I just got recently (uses Valve base stations)
Will definitely be getting the early access ship. Im almost 7500 hours into Elite Dangerous and that number continues to climb. It is my all time favourite game so why wouldnt I support it. Once the Thargoid war is over I will be heading out to the black in the Mandalay and staying out there for the foreseeable future.

I'm currently in deep space in statis with my Anaconda. It was outfitted to a decent degree before DW2. Haven't been back to the bubble since DW2. If interiors ever get added, the bow observation lounge/secondary bridge in the Anaconda will be great.
The ship looks so amazing, along with the internals and hardpoints. Definitely a great job by FDev, and as always, love your coverage of the game Buur o7 Can't wait for the update!
I was planning a 5000 LY expedition in my Type 8 but after seeing the beauty and efficiency of the Mandalay I think I can wait a month. My ARX are on stand-by :) Elite is moving very boldly into a new era..... visions of ship interiors dance in my head.
Saving up my Arx and looking forward to the premium A rated version with special paint scheme and ship kit. Of course, it may be another 6 months before I get back to the bubble to collect it and try it out
I could see the Mandalay replacing the DBX as the popular ship among the Fuel Fats. Especially since some of the components will be transferable from the DBX.
Nothing about doing exo is a good experience - it's the most tedious thing in a game packed with tedious grinds. How anyone at FDev tested the mechanics for finding biologicals and thought "yeah, this is good fun, it's ready to go" is beyond my capacity to understand.
@@the_rat_run - each to their own, but personally I find it quite frustrating to spend a fair chunk of time searching for some weird alien plant using the Mk1 eyeball. You'd think that in the 3300s there'd be some sort of sensor that could detect them more easily. Hell, I'd spend ARX on a module for my ship and SRV that gave them a longer-range version of the hand-scanner pulse...
I love, love, love my Explorfin... It's difficult imagining replacing it, but I might pick up a Mandalay in a few months for in-game credits. SCO does sound soooo nice!
It really seems that AspX, Phantoms and DBXs will stay stowed away. Condas maybe too. I love the downwards facing glass element in the cockpit. It'll make a huge difference for exo biology. I just wonder what "nerf" they will introduce, because, Elite is Elite.
Oh, I’ll be getting it on day one, for sure. I’m in the Bubble currently, harvesting as many mats as I can before neutron jumping back to Colonia and the Weatherwax before starting my next expedition. It begins on October 22nd.

Strong vibes from Frontier: Elite II's Osprey echoing in the Mandalay :) Excited for a new ship designed for exploration. Will be interesting to put it up against my DBX and Phantom. Not super sure I have a need for triple SRV bays, but it never hurts to have one of those be a repair module instead.
My utility ship is a Phantom right now. I use it for jumping, light cargo, or HGE farming. I don't think the Mandalay will replace it due to the significantly lower cargo space. BUT I'll hold out and see what that jump range actually ends up being.
Love the Mandy, but it won't be replacing the Phantom as a rescue ship because you just sometimes need that size 5 repair limpet. I think that's great because as a dedicated explorer it looks amazing and I get to keep the Conda and Phantom as work ships.
It is very clear that the devs have followed the exploration builds commonly used. I could instantly see how to build it. I think the biggest challenge is to the Krait Phantom, as it will likely have a similar price point & cockpit view. The only reason I am not springing for early access is I have limited free time currently
I will def get one for exploration, and keep my Conda as my Command Ship for within the Bubble. I will keep the Asp too for sightseeing - as it still will have the best cockpit view.
When I ported over from console I was out in the black in my conda on my way to Colonia. I made it to Colonia and haven’t played much at all since but when this ship drops I’ll be there front and center and probably continue on to Sagittarius then back to the bubble

My favourite new detail we got teased now is not only that there is a window pointing down, but that it actually closes with gears deployed/while landed apparently!
Last money I payed into this game was for Odyssey, much to my regret. This ship will be the first content to see me reach for my wallet again. Thanks Buur, and thanks FDEV! Finally something that seems to be new AND enjoyable!
He repeated the information from the livestream is all. Besides, the Phantom is not an Exploration ship, it's a multi role that happens to be good for exploring.
@@jonwilliams6996 That's the case for all exploration ships, though. They're just gutted multirole ships. Including the Mandalay, if the hardpoints are an indicator... We'll see what the armor and shields look like, but I might build one for combat alongside the explorer.
The Mandalay will be replacing my DBX for long-distance sightseeing... I could never warm to the AspX and hate the Anaconda with a passion... (But not replacing the Phantom, I love that C7 PP & Distro too much!)
As soon as I got back to the bubble, I retired my Krait Phantom. I have an engineered 5A ready to slap into it as well as other good parts that gave my Phantom a 54ly jump range. Looking forward to this one day one.

It should try hard to bypass 80ly jump with hardened shields + SLF. Will see if it can. Super cruise was never a problem, as bio signals take days to scan vs minutes to cruise.
God, I've been waiting for a ship like this. Next exploration trip, I'm going to find an undiscovered 100+ body system and get it 100% complete. That'll take a few IRL days, but I really want to put the Mandalay through its paces. Just wish it was flatter, lol. The lower hull looks like a big hanging beer gut.

I must admit that my exploring methodology has changed a tad since I purchased a Fleet Carrier - I don't ned the long legs to get out into the far reaches of the Big Black so I'm currently using a Hauler for the actual surveying and exobiology, however that new craft oozes pedigree and it WILL find a hangar on the Hairy Bear as the huge long singleton forays still hold a certain romance.
You will most likely find yourself going out aways and flying the FC back to you and then up ahead. Kinda leapfrogging each other out to the middle of nowhere.
I've been using an engineered Type 10 for long range exploration for a while now and honestly I have no complaints. This ship does peak my interests though. I haven't tried any of the SCO ships out, but maybe no knowing is better than feeling like I'm missing out. The jump range isn't terrible at just under 50ly, but I'm doing a lot of planet surface exploration and the cockpit of the Type 10 is amazing for that. I don't know. Maybe I'll just have to wait and see what's in store as far as expansions to decide whether or not to retire the behemoth and try on something smaller. Thanks for the updates either way.
Man, it's gonna be a sad day indeed to put my Krait Phantom "The Gift of Curiosity" out to pasture, but I might just have to when the Mandalay drops. I've been to Beagle Point twice in my Phantom, to the core more than a dozen times, and all the way around the rim of the galaxy once. Not to mention the countless short trips into the black I've made for exo-bio runs.
To surprass the Anaconda, it needs a max of hull mass to be 235t. My bet it will be very close to the Anaconda, but not 100% sure it will particarly surprass it.
Finally they make NEW SHIPS!!! FOR A SPACESHIP GAME AMAZING. A shame its explorer focus and daft but more is regardless better. Lets hope they make a new surprise weapon aswell for the patch 👍
I know I'm dreamin. But man a size 6 FSD in this baby would have changed the game. At this point in the game and with all the changes they're making to open the game up a bit more, having a ship that could jump 80 or 90 ly would have been nice.

The range of my jumpaconda with better visibility and a turning circle smaller than that of our won moon gets my vote of approval.

Damn, I am so ready for a new Explorer Ship. I am not sure I can resist until it's available in game.

I've been using an engineered Type 10 for long range exploration for a while now and honestly I have no complaints. This ship does peak my interests though. I haven't tried any of the SCO ships out, but maybe no knowing is better than feeling like I'm missing out. The jump range isn't terrible at just under 50ly, but I'm doing a lot of planet surface exploration and the cockpit of the Type 10 is amazing for that. I don't know. Maybe I'll just have to wait and see what's in store as far as expansions to decide whether or not to retire the behemoth and try on something smaller. Thanks for the updates either way.
Man, it's gonna be a sad day indeed to put my Krait Phantom "The Gift of Curiosity" out to pasture, but I might just have to when the Mandalay drops. I've been to Beagle Point twice in my Phantom, to the core more than a dozen times, and all the way around the rim of the galaxy once. Not to mention the countless short trips into the black I've made for exo-bio runs.
To surprass the Anaconda, it needs a max of hull mass to be 235t.
My bet it will be very close to the Anaconda, but not 100% sure it will particarly surprass it.
Finally they make NEW SHIPS!!! FOR A SPACESHIP GAME AMAZING.
A shame its explorer focus and daft but more is regardless better.

I know I'm dreamin. But man a size 6 FSD in this baby would have changed the game. At this point in the game and with all the changes they're making to open the game up a bit more, having a ship that could jump 80 or 90 ly would have been nice.
