    At 5.18 you ask why there are 3 parallel cuts, as a former concrete cutter and diamond driller I can tell you that was a method we used to remove material. A series of parallel cuts were made and then a chisel hammered into the cut, this would cause the cut material to brake off leaving a channel which would then be dressed to the cut depth

      I was going to say it’s exactly the same in carpentry. Cut a series of lines and snap them off then clean the area out.

    • @douginorlando6260
      @douginorlando6260 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Does that give a clue on how easy it was for them to make cuts? I.e. If it took a week per cut, then instead of 3 cuts they would make two cuts and break off the middle piece with more chisels per linear foot hammered into a cut; but if they cut cut an inch per hour then they would make the 3 cuts.

      We use exactly the same technique in wood work. Cutting bassalt with copper tools is a huge problem for archeaologists to explain because its softer than the stone. The only way I can think of for doing this is to use some kind of wheel made of a harder stone with water and sand as an abrasive? It doesn't explain the saw cuts though..

    • @mnomadvfx

      @@chrismalcomson7640 "Cutting bassalt with copper tools is a huge problem for archeaologists to explain because its softer than the stone"
      I see this time and time again and I have to wonder if people making these videos are either simply inept, or worse - willfully masking the well known research into copper saws and tube drills using water and quartz sand abrasive.
      Yes harder stone can also be used - flint is comparable to basalt in hardness if not harder, and definitely harder than granite so sharpened flint chisels can be employed to cut fine inscriptions and shapes into their surfaces.
      Flint has a useful nature of being able to knap it into sharp edged tools which is why our paleolithic ancestors used them for spear heads and daggers.
      The big problem with saw marks and tube drill cores is that we cannot know exactly when those marks were made.
      There have been many different immigrations and invasions into Egypt since the end of the Old Kingdom - starting with the semitic Hyksos group and ending with Romans, and that's just bringing us into the Classical era without accounting for the Islamic Caliphate or the less than respectful 'explorers' of the dawn of archaeology in the late 1700s onward.

    It was such a nice suprise to hear my culture being mentioned at 9:18 and one of the tourist knew exactly which country we come from 🥹 I have never felt more proud to be Māori! Stone can absolutely be shaped/smoothed out with water and sand and it is an active practice in our culture to this day. We also have similar Gods to the Egyptian culture. "The sun" translated in Māori is "Te Rā" and Egyptian Sun God is called Ra if I remember correctly. The more I find out Egyptian culture the more similarities I find within my own culture.

      Oml I was thinking the same thing, so proud to be who we are, my brother has gotten some stone from the west coast and I think he said he wanted to try carve it with water and sand to see if it makes it smoother and easier for him..he likes trying new things and living across the road from the beach in chch he has all the resources

    You make a series of saw cuts, and then you can knock out the pieces.
    It’s basic stone working. People still use the same method today.

    hey, Indiana Jahannah! sneakin' into that strange opening and playin' hide 'n seek in the Valley Temple! you always have fun in your adventures😁 however, i must say, there are some down to earth answers to some of your construction questions. have you ever watched videos from the Scientists Against Myths channel? they show how the ancients cut, drilled and smoothed hard stone using "primitive" tools. they do this by actually cutting, drilling and smoothing granite with copper tools, sand and water. worth checking out!

    It is magical how someone thousands of years ago before you right now were even a dot in universe touched those stones, talked these paths and built around, children played around - humans lived and progressed maybe someone leaned against any of those rocks reading or drawing whichever way they did back then , and there is us doing it right now thousand of years after. Touching past long gone and blown away in the wind.
