Hey Jim! Love these videos - Always gives me new titles and artists to add to my want list. I picked up Street Angel last week and loved it. Keep up the great work !! I'm honored by the kind words about Red Bullet Comics. - They represent countless hours at the drawing board. Thanks to Kayfabe a really cool local guy was able to track me down and I am currently working on a pin-up for his next book.
All About Books And Comics from Phoenix, AZ is a wonderful shop for all things comics but they've got a great back issue section and they carry a very good selection of key comics and first appearances at pretty decent prices.
Great video Jim! Always love seeing what you pick out. Great to see Warwick Johnson Cadwell get a shoutout, the current king of British comics! His recent Fairground pieces on his Instagram have been some of his best work to date. Always evolving and no one can catch up with him.
Hey Jim, thanks so much for the compliments on my "Aliens" and Warlock 5" work. The only other comic book work I did other than cover art for Predator, Predator vs Aliens, Starship Troopers, Ghost, Time Cop, Star Wars, was doing the 1931 adaptation of "Frankenstein". Here's a link if you'd like to see. Thanks again Jim! denbeauvais.com/Frankenstein.html
Interesting haul, Jim. I remember buying that Dr. Weird off of the stands when it came out. I didn’t know Martin was attached to it. I’ll have to dig it up and re-read it. Also, I was jealous you got so many Valkyrie issues. I only ever saw one and picked it up for Gulacy’s art. But I really want to talk about Marshall Rogers. I bought his Batman off the racks as a kid. He also did a great Dr. Strange run with Roger Stern. Perhaps most important to you would be his independent stuff. He did Detective, Inc. with Don McGregor. It was the first graphic novel that I purchased. Also, he teamed with Englehart again to kick off the Coyote series. As for the Scorpio Rose you got, initially it was a Madame Xanadu story for DC. They rejected it, so Englehart repurposed it as Scorpio. Thanks for sharing.
The things I know about Paul Mavrides is that he drew some of the later issues of Freak Brothers and did a good amount of art for the Church of the SubGenius.
Maurder has released more Beanworld in the last couple years. They were recently collected in omnibus format and are definitely worth having on the bookshelf.
I'm sill looking for NYC Outlaws. There's some sales coming up around here, maybe I'll get lucky. Def check out the Giffen issues of Hex, they're impossible to read and cool looking.
Marshall Rogers' silver surfer is my definitive Surfer and not coincidentally my first encounter w/ that character (when they had spinner racks in 7-11), funny how that works
I'm jealous as if there is a place in the Phoenix area that sells quarter bin comics I am not yet aware of it. Love almost everything you guys have to offer here on this channel but the quarter bin dive acquisitions videos along with the Wizard videos are my faves.
My immediate thought when I saw that Thermonuclear Warrior cover, "I wonder if this was inspired by Carnivore?" And sure enough it is! Awesome. So bummed I never got to go to a Carnivore or Type O Negative show with Peter Steele :(
I love Spy Seal. I bought the issues and the collection (which looks like a European album). I know Rich said sales were terrible though so I don't think we will see any more of it sadly.
I’m a Ladronn mark. I love seeing his evolution. Really enjoyed his “Kirby” style and the the European style. I would recommend his “Inhumans” comics. I think he only did 2 of the 4 issues in the miniseries. Beautiful
Aha! Thank you both. I have some of the Image Comics' Empty Zones and of course, Spawn! Now I might have to lay out all of the Jason Alexander comics I have and study the evolution! - Jim
Cartoonist Kayfabe It blew my mind when I picked up the old issues. I thought maybe they were two different people with same name. But I’m pretty sure it’s him.
RE: Thermonuclear Warrior - I noticed the name JR Bookwalter in there. He's a massively prolific maker of very cheap exploitation and horror movies dating back to 1989, he would have been 26 when this came out. Never knew he did comics. Responsible for classic cinema like Robot Ninja, Zombie Cop and Mega Scorpions.
Love these vids Jim, keep 'em coming! Just wanted to add Re: Comet Tales...that shit is also all hand lettered(!) a la Robin Bougie and it definitely deserves props for that!
Some thoughts/notes: - Rich Rankin… inker on Mage, right? - Dr. Weird. Remind me to show you the original by Howard Keltner. I LOVE that guy’s stuff. - Frank Forte… I met Frank one early Sunday morning at 5am outside the SDCC doors. I had driven in early to make sure I got a parking spot for load out. I then went up and caught some zzz on a bench. Frank walked up, and we started talking comics. He currently works for Heavy Metal (art director?) but at the time was running his own imprint known as Asylum Press. And yes, him and Al Columbia were pals. He was selling some Al originals for a while. At some point I think I even saw his name on Bob’s Burgers. - Jim Lawson? Bade Biker!
Fantagraphics need to do a Landgraf collection ft NYC Outlaws, the Jacobs stuff and whatever else. Surely everyone who buys Marra and Real Deal would buy it, I know I would. Impossible to find in the wild here in UK - all I've managed to get is Starfighters 2.
Jim not sure if this would be something you and Ed would have the time or the interest with all else you got going on. You mentioned in this you're not sure what to do with doubles. Would it be too much to put them up the shop as mystery packs. I know I'd buy a few. Just an idea
Jim if you’re looking for some holiday books to talk about, check out Terror Inc. #8, published by Marvel in ‘93. It’s a really weird, violent outlier in Christmas comics.
I have read Barefoot Gen's biography. Very inspiring stuff on two levels. Firstly surviving the bombing of Hiroshima and then his dedication in becoming a manga artist. Jim and Ed let me know if you would want to read it, I'll sort it out.

Would love to see a sketchbook themed episode - I think that is a great idea you hit upon here, Jim.
Yeah that would be sweet
wild ralphs comic corner is my comic shop. small world
"I don't need to explain why I like that one."
These are my favorite episodes that you guys do!
Me too
2 issues of Privateers. Was created in Saskatoon SK Canada. Grummett also did a comic for Aircel called Shadowalker. 1 issue.
Those Spy Seal covers are incredible. Some of my favorite of recent years

Anyone interested or unfamiliar with Warwick Johnson Cadwell, here is his IG: instagram.com/wocco/
Great haul...made some notes on this one...as per usual. Thanks Jim.

Glad to learn of that Frankenstein book. Thank you for sharing that link. - Jim
What a great haul Jim, love these videos! Thanks!

I like Detectives, Inc. That is a dense graphic novel, super intense artwork. I also have an issue or two of Mister Miracle that Rogers drew. - Jim
Cartoonist Kayfabe yes, how could I not mention Mr. Miracle.
I just grabbed that same Zot 10.5 from a quarter bin too! I also found a Scout Handbook and a Scout 24 - which has a photocopied intro section.
Thank you Jim - my favorites of your haul were Dash Shaw’s book and Acme novelty, but tons of cool stuff.
Absolutley love Bob Burden!
These comic haul videos are simply amazing

That Misty comic is looking good!
That issue of turtles is rad. One of my favourites in my collection :)
That issue of New York City outlaws always reminded me of the warriors if it was a KMFDM video
I'm sill looking for NYC Outlaws. There's some sales coming up around here, maybe I'll get lucky. Def check out the Giffen issues of Hex, they're impossible to read and cool looking.

I have David Mack's first comics work, Adventures of the Vital Man #1-6. He drew the entire issue in #3 and signed it for me in 2001.
I just grabbed Ashen Victor 3 and 4 out of quarters a week or two ago. It is funny you got 1 and 2.
I’m a Ladronn mark. I love seeing his evolution. Really enjoyed his “Kirby” style and the the European style. I would recommend his “Inhumans” comics. I think he only did 2 of the 4 issues in the miniseries. Beautiful
I remember his run on Cable. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. I wish he did more comics work.
I loved the whole video, but I think my favorite part was the out of left field reference to "Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead"!
A+, thank you!
Jason Alexander from Empty Zone is the current Spawn artist.
Thomas Murphy he redrew empty zone with his new style
Aha! Thank you both. I have some of the Image Comics' Empty Zones and of course, Spawn! Now I might have to lay out all of the Jason Alexander comics I have and study the evolution! - Jim

He also did an arc of Queen & Country that is really good. Super nice guy, amazing artist.
Who's dis Alexander guy but I saw spawn sooooo

Interesting! I would have never known. Thanks for sharing this. - Jim
Ralph's comic corner was my shop growing up in the 90's!
Love these vids Jim, keep 'em coming! Just wanted to add Re: Comet Tales...that shit is also all hand lettered(!) a la Robin Bougie and it definitely deserves props for that!
Buy these 80s indie comic runs! They don't even have reprints, we have to preserve them
Ron Wimberly has a short comic about doing colors for his work with Marvel on The Nib. Worth a read
Thanks for sharing.
Been wanting New York City Outlaws for a longtime...ebay prices though🙈
Ahhh! Tales of the Beanworld!
That Spy Seal looks very heavily influence by Hergé (Tintin). Very nice looking, I might need to go find those.
Great, have never heard or seen about 80% of these books
I'd love to give those Acme Novelty Libraries a good home! Throw my name in the hat if there's a drawing!
I'm going to start saying "This isn't my first issue of Dober-Mann" instead of "This ain't my first rodeo" from now on.
Skin Graft is still an active record label, Mark did many great album covers as well.
Fabian Rangel and Warwick did a great arc of Samurai Jack too
Flaming Carrot for TWENTY-FIVE CENTS???!!! That is nuts!
A nice walk down Memory Lane

Jim you mentioned you and Ed talk about Marshall Law in a Wizard episode, I’m behind on your Wizard videos, do you know which issue it is? Thank you
Wizard 34: th-cam.com/video/Pq25uxpfVNk/w-d-xo.html
Cartoonist Kayfabe Really appreciate that, thank you.

You happen to put this out the same day the new printing of Abdolute New Frontier came out.
Do you have any northstar books for sale? Also into razor comics
13:04 Or maybe an electric typewriter ?
I believe that " Frontier" is the "supernatural" imprint of Marvel UK.
Jim if you’re looking for some holiday books to talk about, check out Terror Inc. #8, published by Marvel in ‘93. It’s a really weird, violent outlier in Christmas comics.
Frank Forte is a dude who works out in LA in animation
I’ve wanted to get my hands on Ashen victor for ages >
I dug Helena Crash
Marvel is releasing new 2099 tales pretty soon, there will be a Ghost Rider 2099 if memory serves me correct.
I have read Barefoot Gen's biography. Very inspiring stuff on two levels. Firstly surviving the bombing of Hiroshima and then his dedication in becoming a manga artist. Jim and Ed let me know if you would want to read it, I'll sort it out.
Looks like Butch Burcham is aka Newton Burcham. His facebook is IncarnaComics. Looks like he's still active. Lots of new pin ups on there.
This was too long for porn. I like it, but it's exhausting.
