The type of paper used for the manga original is called a coquille board. In America editorial cartoonists like Paul Conrad have used it. It has a surface pattern that creates zipatone -like dots with charcoal or litho crayon - and what makes it different from something like rough textured watercolor paper is you can still draw on it with brush and ink too without the lines breaking into drybrush all the time. It's fascinating that a paper can have both of those qualities simultaneously, I've never been able to find anything like it so I haven't been able to try what it's like drawing on that.

Satoshi Kon's Paranoia Agent actually was completed, it's a 13 episode tv anime

Paranoia agent is a 13 episode anime composed of ideas that Kon had over the years that he couldn’t fit in his other works. To me, it is his best work. The storyboard book has the boards Kon did himself on the show. He did not board every episode so don’t expect to see the boards for the majority of the episodes. Ohayo was a short film Kon had made.

It's actually an anime as gar ad I can tell (I'm a huge weeb) not sure that Kon ever did comics about it from what I can tell but I'd agree that it's his masterpiece. As much as I love his body of work this is the one that sticks in my mind. Even including that end song for millenium actress that lives in my head rent free.😢

The first comics in woo magazine is drawn by a french artist Georges Pichard, Paris in the 60's and 70's. He is absolutely one of my favorites from that time.

Thank you very much for attending the Brave and Bold event and I hope you had a blast.
The original page you picked up is from "Chichi no Tamashii (The father's spirit)" by Hiroshi Kaizuka. The manga was actually serialized in Shonen Jump magazine back in the late 60's. You really got yourself a piece of Japanese manga classic. so congrats to you.

They don’t mention it in the video, but the series that Ed got (that was released by Viz) is actually a sequel/spinoff to the original Kamui Den, which went by the name Kamui Gaiden but was published under the name “Legend of Kamui”…which is what the original title means. Confused? That’s only because it’s needlessly complicated. 😅
The original is what just got licensed by Drawn & Quarterly, not the spinoff.

Whoa this is great news! And someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the original has a scratchier, more iconic style than the sequel.
