Larry Bird's affect on the Celtics was immediate
The year before Bird joined the Celtics their record was 29-53
In Bird's 1st year he started in all 82 games, averaged 36 minutes per game
and the Celtics record was 61-21
Bird career spanned 13 years, however, in the 88-89 season he only played in 6 games before getting surgery that sidelined him for the rest of the season.
In Birds first 7 season the Celtics won more than 60 games 6 times - only winning 56 in the 1 season they didn't
As a matter of fact, not counting the 88-89 season, the Celtics never won less than 51 games during the time Bird played.
In 10 out of the 12 years, again not counting 88-89, the Celtics finished 1st in their division and 2nd the other 2 times.
Didn't you just hear Bird say he was God
The reason they don't talk bad about Michael Jordan because he sold multi million dollars of merchandise. Jordan was very marketable. Larry bird wasn't. So the media and big corporations protected Michael image and we all believed it. People didn't have Internet to investigate for themselves.
Second year in the NBA Larry Legend won his first Championship 🐐☘️
The GOAT Larry Legend Bird had 0 holes in his game and was about winning as a team not as an individual and beat every single star on his era, he always was one of the savior's of the nba, a Stat cat Creator, a non center to work 3 straight MVPs and this is all for starters
I thunk the biggest advantage Bird had over MJ is that Bird involved the entire team. Bird didn't go for stats except the win, it's been said that if one of his teammates was having a bad night Bird would feed them the ball in order to build that person up (that type of mentality translates to any team sport). I do have to say that even though MJ had a hard time guarding Bird, Bird also had a difficult time stopping MJ. Both their offense was unmatched.
sort of right. The open guy with the hot hand got the ball. But another factor was who's in the lane already in motion to complete the play. In proof, Larry talked about when Ainge first arrived. Bird said he was "unreliable". But when Ainge picked up his game, they included him in their "efficient" plan of attack. All the players responded to this type of play.. And that's what made the 86 Celts the greatest team.
Bird all day, any day, anytime, he was the best all around player of all time!
If it was not for Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, there would not be an NBA today, the game would, the NBA was dying, even the playoffs....this is a FACT. There would have NEVER been a Kobe, a LeBron or anyone else. THOSE SCRATCHES ON BIRD'S NECK WAS DONE BY JORDAN!
LARRY LEGEND 🎉
It makes Mike the black Larry bird! Mike may be the best individual player. Bird the best basketball player. Look at bird in college. He took Indiana State undefeated into the college final game. You ever heard of Indiana state?
Bird is so much a more complete player than Lebron or Jordan in my opinion. like was said Larry can not shot and still be a factor. Micheal and Lebron have to have the ball. today the guys are just after stats. Steven A Smith said it best. Larry was a leader from day one making his whole team better. Lebron is trying but he cant. Micheal was a leader but not the way Larry was. i can see in the videos Larry has a good shot but he gives to another team mate to score. remember when Mchale got 56 points, it was because Larry helped him get that. he fed him the ball. he saw he was on a roll and he helped him. the other two would not do that. they want to be the #1 every time. more i watch the comparisons the more i lean to Larry. and also the 80's were not like today. they were more physical back then. Larry played hurt. Lebron pulls a cramp and he got to go to the locker room crying. Jordan didnt get hurt much. like the guy said Jordan scored 63 points but still lost. that means he was not a team player. he tried to do everything himself IMO.
It's that argument that takes larry so far over the top
Larry was a scrapper.
Your a smart young man. I respect someone learning the truth and understanding it.
There would be no NBA without Bird and Magic...PERIOD!!!
Facts!
Bird played in the toughest era ever. against the best ever.
My top player's Larry Legend and Magic, MJ, Kobe, Paul Pierce 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
During the Dream Team documentary you can see Magic teasing Jordan about “Don’t get too close to Michael. You know they’ll call a foul.” The second half of Jordan’s career, that was the truth. I love Jordan, but he wasn’t perfect. None of us are. Why you’re not allowed to say a critical word about Jordan, I don’t understand. How do people improve? You can’t improve on anything if you make no mistakes. People want their heroes to be gods, I suppose.
For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play.
At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go:
Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics:
Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88);
All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88);
Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012).
Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons.
Career averages:
24.3 points per game
10.0 rebounds per game
6.3 assists per game
88.6% free throw percentage
49.6% field goal percentage
37.6% 3-point percentage
Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. He likely used crutches after season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 seasonCareer averages:
Facts!!!
This was great because we got to look at Larry Burn and michael jordan and also some lebron james comment Thrown in at just the right times at was. I'm a really goadd video. And I love it when people show me something new. This was a real good Take
Hey my friend, if Lebron played in the same era as Bird and Magic (both helped to save the NBA, and that is a fact), his career would have only lasted on average 14-16 years. When you look at today's NBA and players, the shots, passes had all been done by someone before them. Most players in the 50's and before, through 1980, there was NO 3-Point Line, No Hand Check fouls, no Shot Clock...Bird and Magic would dominate the NBA today.
I’m from Indiana close to Larry’s hometown of French Lick. He coached the Pacers for a few years. Indy built a new Field house. Across the front sign said Birds House. 😂
Larry and players from that era had more heart. It was a tougher league. Larry's IQ was unreal . Grit and determination he had great work ethics. Bird was amazing he played ever second of the game. I watched this era. Cant even watch NBA of today.
Jordan still my number one player but best all-around player all time and second on my all-time list is Larry Bird. The man did everything assist, rebounds, scoring anywhere, steals, setting picks always on the move off ball, the founder of the 504090 club there was a stretch before he broke his back of 4 years where he average 50 40 90 shooting, 3 years back-to-back-to-back three-point champion, 3 years MVP those were consecutive, then the final thing his basketball IQ I don't think anybody in history had a higher One. Damn he might just be the greatest ever lol
Cedric Maxwell has a podcast. He had Robert Parish on, who played the last 2 yrs of his career with Jordan and the Bulls. You can find it on TH-cam. It will give you some insight into how different Larry and Jordan were. He said Jordan was a bully to his teammates. Larry was quietly confident, just wanted to make everyone better. Two very different types of leaders.
It’s the rings. Want a link to a video comparing Bird to LeBron? Lol
Also, a little bit of trivia for ya. The record for the LOWEST score in the 3 point contest is held by MJ.
I doubt he wants that link to the LeBron v Bird comparison because then he would have to come to the realization that Bird was putting up better numbers than LeBron at 30 even with the whole league and refs sucking LeBron off.
Finally... somebody who says that Jordan wasn't a god on the court like everyone else does.
Take those 90's Bulls and dump them into 80's where the competition was much tougher, they'd be lucky to win even 2 championships let alone 6.
MJ got swept 2 times by Larry Legend and Celtics ☘️
No one could guard Bird! He always found a way! Bird gave it his all every time he stepped on the court! Ever notice ...when Bird shoots...its All Net!!!
Check out Celtics vs. Hawks.... Bird dropped 60 pts that night breaking the record for the most pts scored by a Celtic player! Birds record still stands to this day!
Larry and lebron are both all around players but lebron does not even come close to the clutchness and shooting accuracy of larry, lebron does not even come close to the level of confidence that larry had, lebron does not even come close to the mind games and mental toughness that larry had.
The one skill Jordan that Bird could not match was his athletic ability. He was faster, could jump higher, stay airborne longer. Bird had to be better in other areas, passing, involving teammates, free throws, hitting shots from any distance, never taking one second off or giving up. As an all-around player, Bird wins. As a high-flying scorer, Jordan wins.
Michael got swept TWICE in the playoffs by bird and the celtis. Twice
I love both mj and bird but bird was diff. He actually played injured his whole career. His first injury was his finger. That was before he nba career started and said he never had the same feel for the ball. Bird was injured his whole career and was a monster imagine him being healthy his whole career. Wow. Bird a beast.
crazy how they give lebron an excuse for losing the warriors ,because they had a super team but crucify jordan because he lost to a celtics superteam his first year in the fucking nba......Crazy
It’s not a team Jordan faced that’s better than the warriors, especially including Kevin Durant.
I'm from Boston big Celtics Larry Legend fan and Magic fan he never beat Larry Legend but MJ is the goat 🐐
He did what he had to do to win
PS you should check out Muggsy Bouges. Not my GOAT but definitely my bias 😂
Listen Doug give MJ credit MJ is the Goat, don't get me wrong Larry Legend 🐐 I'm from Boston Larry Legend was unbelievable magic 🐐 unbelievable, MJ unbelievable, Kobe unbelievable, Paul Pierce unbelievable no one likes Lebron because of his fan's and he's great but I'm sorry give MJ his props come on you can deny greatness
In a nutshell, Sports center is controlled by the nba. NBA is about $$$. Jordan was the collection agent. Never bite the hand that feeds you.
Like Larry Legend said that wasn't MJ the was God disguised as Michael Jordan, he never beat Larry Legend but MJ was unbelievable
Jokich has two straight. Look at the seaso hes having. Hes got a great chance of doing it.
Michael’s career didn’t really take off until all the greats like Bird retired. He wasn’t playing against many big players during his peak.
If it's the rings, Bill Russell is GOAT. He's got 11 of them.
he did 't kick it he threw it
A lot of people don't bring Larry Bird in the Goat convos cuz he's white! They think he's overrated or ....oh he's white so he can't be that good! No One has gotten MVP 3x in a row since Larry Bird!!! Jordan didn't start winning until after Bird retired! Jordan owns a lot businesses & has a lot of influence...it may be why they don't mention anything bad on shows like Sports Center.
MJ said in a Larry Legend is the best small forward better than Lebron
12:04 if he’d won the 3 point contest? Jordan entered the 3 point contest one time, and set the record for the lowest score still to this day. I’m not saying he couldn’t shoot 3’s, far from it, but he wasn’t gonna win the contest.
Where s his rings
Larry Bird was the goat in his era Jordan in his era LeBron not going to get 6 b4 retirement
@@dorawells8150 tired of y’all measuring success by rings. Check out some Barry Sanders. One of the best running backs ever in the NFL but never played in the Super Bowl. Nobody questions his credentials.
Nice to see a young man that understands the game. Bird 6 Jordan 0, also Bird beat MJ 23 out of 25 games when MJ scored 30 or more points. Bird got his whole team involved, MJ never figured that out, it was always going to be about MJ.
You can compare any and all to larry. First 12 years to anyone else, period. Old and new fall short of Larry.
the chief said it best 63 don't mean nothing a W is Is W
Here's the issue I think it is with LeBron compared to Larry Bird or a Jordan or a magic are all these other people we put up as the goat conversation. They stayed with one team and helped build that team up they let the coach do the coaching they let the front office bring in the players they wanted to bring in LeBron tries to do it all instead of just playing damn basketball. How many coaches has he gotten fired you stick with that team and you helped build that team up in the people around him were just role players all rodman was there to do was to get some rebounds and play defense Scotty was there to score a little bit and play defense Jordan was the number one scorer on the team you had Horace Grant in the big boys down low to get the rebounds nobody jump ship and went to another team with established superstars that's the difference between a superstar team and a role-playing team. The longer you play with people you build a chemistry that's what creates dynasties
Jordan was indeed great.
The best individual player ever, I dont doubt that.
But there is more to the game than being individually great.
In a one on one, I would probably bet on Jordan.
But if I was building a team and got thw first pick, there is no player ever Id pick over Larry.
Just having Larry would automatically level up every other player on your team two levels.
If you had the 6/10 players they would all be 8/10 players if you put Larry on that team.
Alot of people say Larry had so many HoF:ers on his team.
He didnt, he MADE so many guu sin his team HoF material.
They wouldnt have been without Larry abd theyre on record admitting as much.
I agree the protecting Jordan behaviour is kinda ridiculous...
But you shouldnt discredit Jordan too much.
Who is actually the greatest ever is a borderline impossible thing to actually decide.
But Jordan absolutely is ONE of the greatest ever, there is no arguing otherwise if you watched him play in his prime.
There is no argument... Lebron, Jordan and Magic have all said Larry was the best player ever. Not to mention countless others that played against him have mentioned he was the near impossible to guard. Ewing, Barkley, Drexler, Rodman ect ect these are not average players speaking about him
Birds so underrated, but the eastern conf was tough and stacked ,but yeah bird was so BAD A$$ ,mj couldn't get pass that great celtics team with bird leading them the man waa a beast he had that killer instinct like mj #LB33 💚🐦🏀🔥‼️ oh and bird as a rookie took the worst team turned araround and took them to the eastern conf, next year to a championship ❤
This isn't about Lebron fr
Larry Legend
Rookie or not, Jordan still beat everyone else...
Including the Showtime lakers who probably had the moat OP big three ever in Magic, Worthy and Kareem.
If Jordan could beat THOSE guys, there are no excuses for not beating Birds Celtics.
Bro it ain't got nothing to do with the rings. We ALL why people don't want to call Larry the goat. It's all about race. Nobody wants to say that a white guy kicked everybody's ass on the court. I don't really understand why the black fan base refuses to give Bird the credit he deserves. It's ok to say because there is absolutely no shame in being beaten by a master of the game. Bird is the smartest guy with the highest basketball IQ to ever step out onto the wood. I'm 56 years old, I saw the Bird vs Magic rivalry unfold in real time. At least the black guys that grew up in the generation X era we all know. The young fan base don't really have a clue. The game today is so soft. It's powder puff pussy rules compared to the 80's. Back then during the playoffs and finals the referees would put their whistles in their pockets and just let the guys go at it. If you didn't have a broken bone or if you didn't need stitches then no fouls got called. I saw Robert Parish knock crooked ass Bill Laimbeer unconscious in the paint right up under the rim. No whistle, no foul and no ejections. Get your ass up off the floor stop crying and play ball.
My problem with LeBron is the blatant and shameless flops. For me, that will always cast a shadow over him. Win or lose, do it with dignity and integrity.
the big difference i am seein is with jordan vs lebron debate is the bulls built their team around him lebron had to goto a built team to win lest we not forgot mr. lebron fan most of the comparison between the 2 is in the finals not the play-offs where jordan is 6-0 and lebron is currently 4-10 if i am not mistaken and i am a wilt and larry fan i think jordan is a average player comparred to the 2 i mentioned and lebron couldn't even compete with either of them as both larry and wilts play style would have killed lebron hell it dam near killed jordan hence the reason the rules started changing once jordan started gaining global popularity so lebron can thank jordan for the softer game in which he plays in
Larry beat MJ 0-6 in the finals. MJ ALWAYS had difficulty winning
Larry can fight don't get it twisted your criticizing 🐐🐐🐐
Isaiah Thomas hates MJ Larry Legend and Magic my 🐐 🐐 but they passed the torch to MJ and he took off come on MJ 🐐 Kobe 🐐 Paul Pierce 🐐 this isn't about Lebron
Lebron could be top 15 all time along side JJ Redick.
this isn't between MJ and Lebron, only if it was for second best.Bird was the GOAT.
It doesn't matter how human Michael Jordan is,he will always be better than Lebron. Fact! Lebron James is not even in the same level as Larry Bird. Lebron could score 63 or win no matter what against Bird.
Lebron is joining good teams thats why he wins jordan and bird Not alway with the same team
Listen you fans of Lebron make people not like Lebron, you got so angry, listen MJ was unbelievable give the man his props, Larry Legend my 🐐and magic 🐐 MJ 🐐 Kobe 🐐 Paul Pierce 🐐 sorry I can't get down with Lebron because of fans like you that video was about Larry Legend and MJ and you made it about Lebron you were so angry please try and relax give other great players there props
Larry is the GOAT, I'll just say the year before Larry came into the NBA, the Celtics were 29- 53, then Larry's rookie season the same Celtics team was 61-21, 32 games better, that's almost a season for MJ's team.
The bulls before MJ were 27-55, MJ's rookie year, the Bulls were 38-44n 11 games better.
Even David Robinson's 1988 Spurs, year before Robinson, Sours were 21-61, Robinson's rookie year, Sours 56-26, 34 win more.
I believed if you switched Larry to the Bulls and MJ to the Celtics, Larry would still had won 60+ games with that same Bulls team
Yes bc piston s never played fair
So stop
MJ Larry Legend and Magic were friends, Larry and Magic, my favorite players they saved the NBA 2 🐐🐐 MJ don't get it twisted was the Goat after he took over after Larry Legend and Magic the torch was passed to MJ he took over he's better than Lebron fr Kobe was too , I like Lebron he's great but his fan's make people not like him , fact and when he called himself the Goat come on Steph is better Jason Tatum right up there do you know all these players stayed on the same team they didn't join Super teams I'm sorry but Lebron fans need to stop it's getting embarrassing the way they act MJ is the Goat 🐐 and I a Larry Legend fan he's a goat magic 🐐 Kobe 🐐 Paul Pierce 🐐
Jordan like Lebron had a lot of nobodies as teammates in their early years. But Jordan even had worse teammates, they were even called "cocaine circus". In the playoffs Jordan had historical performances almost every time he lost, but Lebron while being great also had some infamous chokes in his early playoff years.
Jordan could pass the ball but he had dudes that couldnt shoot as teammates. In the 90' season he averaged 8 assists and in in the 91' finals he averaged 11.4 assists. Also that guy is lying or he made a mistake or something , Pistons never swept MJ. 88' he lost 4-1, 89' 4-2, 90' 4-3, and 91' HE actually swept the Pistons. And its not like Scottie was some amazing player as soon as he got drafted it took him some years to develop.
Jordan stayed on one team until he retired and went bk to wizards. Jordan won 3 in a row then came bk won 3 more in a row
Second year in the NBA Larry Legend won his first Championship 🐐
