As an old time Boston fan I can't tell you how much we love Larry. We got all the back stories in the local papers, which fleshed out all the highlights and gave us a better appreciation of him than most folks got.
Just one example: Remember the elimination game against the Pacers, when Bird smacked his head on the floor, got a fractured cheek and a concussion, but still came back and dominated the game to carry the Celtics to the win?
Well, after the game the Boston reporters interviewed the Pacers coach to get his reaction to what had just happened. His reply went something like this... "The guys were getting really excited because with Bird out they felt they were going to win the game, so I told them, 'He will come back, and when he does this place will go crazy. But, remember, he'll still have to hit his shots.' Well, he hit his shots. And he rebounded. And he made assists. And he defended. All I know is, in Boston they're gonna be talking about him for the next hundred years."
All that said, I rank MJ and Larry 1a and 1b, tied for best all time player. All I know for sure is that it was a blast witnessing that era of basketball.

Jordan and Bird are two of my favorite players to watch.
They both brought excitement to the game in their own unique jaw dropping ways.
To me, Jordan was the ultimate individual player while Bird was the ultimate team player.

"Why dont we talk about Bird more?!" Cause he's white. I've been watching basketball for 35 years and, in my experience, as time goes on less and less black people that I talk to know anything about Larry Bird. They do know however, of Magic Johnson and Dr, J. Basketball today is dominated by the need to see HUGE dunks, ankle breaking dribbling and pretty looking 3's. The world fell in love with basketball before all that junk. flashy handles and dunks dont make the game fun.
Jordan, Bird and Magic, they are the holy trinity of basketball.

Jordan loves Bird. He tells anyone who asks that Bird is the best power forward who ever played. Jordan had to live in Bird’s shadow for years, but Bird toughened him up mentally, emotionally, and physically. Everyone knew about Bird’s work ethic, and Jordan watched what Bird did, hoping to beat him. Jordan loves Bird because Bird helped him achieve his true greatness, and Bird knows it, but he’s always generous and respectful when he talks about Jordan’s greatness. They’re both great in similar and different ways, and to me it’s hard to put one above the other. If I had to I’d give Bird a slight edge because he’s the original, the older brother. Jordan learned his iron self-discipline and absolute determination to win from Larry Bird.

Larry had Robert Parrish, Kevin McHale, Dennis Johnson (DJ), and Bill Walton as 6th man: all HOFers! Bird helped make them HOFers, but they were talented on their own. Danny Ainge was the other guard and an excellent 3-point and FT shooter. It was a TEAM: a “hive mind” of play, and it was dazzling to watch!

The 90's was Michael Jordan's dominant era. There was just too much talent in the 80's for him by himself on a weaker team. Everyone that beat him pretty much retired by early 90's leaving him and the Bulls to dominate.

That “team of HOFERS” you refer to was ENTIRELY OF LARRYS MAKING. Parish was considered a slacker b4 joining the Celtics & he has said himself that the majority of his scoring points were due to assists from Larry. Kevin was 6th man for at least one season b4 joining the starting roster & took several years to become a force & again, it was Larry’s leadership & play style that molded that team into the cooperative unit they became. Danny was never a HOFER which I think is a huge oversight….out of all of the team only DJ & Bill Walton had a ring b4 coming to the Celtics & Walton really only played one season. So your argument is wobbly.
The REAL reason Jordan’s team wasn’t “better” was because of JORDAN HIMSELF. HE FORGOT IT WAS A *TEAM* GAME!!!
Stop being an apologist for a selfish egotistical player! Stop blaming everyone else for Jordan’s failures!

On that final shot by Jordan with 0.4 seconds. I think the rule is that you need at least 0.7 seconds to do a catch and shoot. It’s got to be a tip in with less than 0.7 seconds.

I look at it this way. MJ is the best individual player the game has seen. But being basketball is a team sport. When you compare players that way. Suddenly Larry Bird rises pretty well to the top. Go ahead, pick any player you want, from any era. And that player will need career type games to even have a shot at winning the game. Your end result should be, overall. Larry Bird IS basketball. There's a few goats but only one Legend.

@@ItsFlamoFTW I'm exaggerating but not by much. Bird, McHale, Parrish and Dennis Johnson are all Hofers that were in their prime. They also had an older Bill Walton coming off the bench. The Bulls had Pippen Grant(dude with the goggles), Rodman, and Kukoc. Grant isn't in the hall of Fame. And Rodman wasn't in his prime
Also,.you shouldn't say Kerr when discussing talent on the Bulls, he was a great 3 point shooter but he was a 7 PPG bench player that played about 15-20 mpg. He definitely contributed but he was a roleplayer

Larry Bird was not a one man show. He was a part of what many believe to be the greatest frontline in NBA history. Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish.... Bird was of course their leader on the court, and he definitely made them better, but these legends stand on their own. In addition to Bird, McHale and Parish are both in the HOF, and made the NBA's 75th Anniversary list back in 2021. Not to mention his backcourt of Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge. Bill Walton coming off the bench winning 6th man of the year award in 1986. You need to learn your NBA history if you're gonna do these reaction videos.
