  • He’s an MVP candidate a month into his Liga MX season. . The 20 year old is in the form of his young career but despite being a mainstay in youth national teams he was passed up for the Paris Olympics. Will team USA regret their decision?

He should be alongside booth on the right. Herc mentioned mhailovic on one side who is a 10 and he should play as a 10 if he was brought as an overage player.

Wish the Mexican Americans would get more call ups. I really feel like Zenedejas would have gone to Mexico if he knew he wouldn't be called up as often. Considering we needed a true back up winger.

For Cowell, it's been a matter of consistent production, or lack of it, at the club level. He had very, very few goal contributions at San Jose, and didn't change that poor goal contribution record during his first season with Chivas. That's understandable for a young player, but I think what he found himself up against during the Olympic roster selection were players in the same position that were in Europe and were showing a little more consistency in terms of appearing on the score sheet for their clubs. Of course it's also possible that the coaching staff wanted him on the roster but didn't have the support from Chivas.
I've still felt that he has the potential to become an explosive contributor. For me he passes the eye test when I watch him play. Even when he doesn't get on the score sheet, he pretty consistently has dangerous moments. That could be beating a defender but failing to finish, or hitting the post. I've also seen many times where he's made a good play and setup a teammate, only for the teammate to fail to finish. In the long run, and with more experience, those things tend to balance out and I would expect him to get more goals/assists as he matures. We've been a little spoiled with guys like Pulisic in particular, having broken through with the USMNT and in European clubs at such a young age, and I think the current USMNT fanbase is somewhat unrealistic about the development trajectory of most players. This can cause us to overlook a young player's potential when they aren't lighting up games with goals/assists as a teenager. Cowell is only 20, and has significant development to be achieved over the next few years.
Ideally he can continue the strong performances with Chivas that he has shown during the first 4 games of the Apertura. That would likely result in fresh interest from European clubs, and I think a move to a league like the Eredivisie would be perfect for him in the next 12-18 months.

Cowell didn't deserve to be picked for the Olympic Team. His play hadn't been good enough. It's great to see his current form, though. If he keeps it up, perhaps senior team call up in September will follow.

As a Chivas fan all i can say is Cowell is good but not that so. He has potential tho. He never dribbles the ball or face the defenders 1vs1. He lacks some technical skills with reception, definition and passing tho he depends a lot on his speed and stamina and his strong foot.

The entire US Developmental program for soccer is totally flawed and this is the fundamental reason why the USA sucks in soccer on the world stage. People say it’s because the US talent pool goes to American football, basketball, and baseball. Nonsense. US Soccer prioritizes skill over athletics and can’t identify talent when other countries dot differently and can see a raw athlete easily. It was a huge mistake not to put Cade Cowell on the US Olympic team.
