It was a Mini cooper on a M03 chassis that got me back into the hobby after about 15 years away from it. Since then my collection has expanded somewhat🤣🤣..
Hi Gavin, I recently found your channel, currently going through your video's and getting up to speed with your RC collection. Loving the channel mate. Thanks you for you commitment and hard work that is involved in doing this.
I have an original m01 Mini, as well as a Kyosho Alta Mini Cooper. Passed up a NIB M05 mini (the subject of this video) the store that had it wanted over $300 which I couldn't justify spending.
I don't buy or collect RC cars. I am into plastic static model cars from Tamiya and other brands. But The first time I saw the Tamiya RC classic mini I fell in love. I was lucky to buy the re-release of the Monte Carlo mini a few years ago before it sold out. I don't use it much. I will keep it as shelf display next to other minis in 1/24.
I've got the real thing sat outside on my driveway, (see my icon) so obviously 🙂 when they came out originally (1994 version in green) it was a must. Still have both the green and a red Monte Carlo, in boxes, on a shelf, opposite me as I type this. Best thing is, they actually drive like the real thing albeit with a little less petrol usage. 🙂
Have to say this is definitely one I would love to find. My dad bought a brand new Mini wagon back in the day and I'd love to get one of these and paint it the same colour. AND...try to figure out how to add the "woody" look down the side. I'd want to match it as much as possible.
Managed to find a beater MO5 Mini at a boot sale. Paid up for it but we’ll pleased with it, even though the shell isn’t the best. Still, I’m a crap driver so alls well.
If the body is that valuable and hard to find, you can make your own VERY easily. Make a plaster "plug" of the existing body by plugging the holes and filling it with plaster of paris. Pop the body off when its dry and now you have a mold to make your own. Buy the appropriate thickness lexan, heat it in an oven and voila, your own body shop. (you need a shop vac and a few other items as well) One tip: to remove air pockets from the plaster of paris you can agitate it while in liquid form or just use wood filler or similar to fill them after it's dry.
ok, that won't work if the body is already cut out....it's more work, but it IS possible to do...you have to tape all the openings well so they don't leak.
First reaI kit I ever built. It's a lovely kit sadly parts are a bit tough to come by. Built mine in 2018 I believe cuz local track was running a Mini Cooper class.
Did you know that the Racing Mini Cooper body is different compared to the orginal Rover Mini Cooper body that came with 1994 version? The 1994 version is slightly smaller and comes with chrome add on parts like bumpers and a grill and in case of the Monte Carlo spotlights. I think that the Tamiya Mini Cooper body is the best body that Tamiya ever produced.
Gavin, any 50mm shock set will work on M-Chassis. 55mm can work too if you feel you need the travel. Also, do you have a link to where I can buy the Option No. 1 gear cover on your TT-02? I don’t mind the plastic one I have but I rather like the aluminum one. Cheers mate.
Hi. First off love the channel. Just watched recent clodbuster build and looks awesome. I have a Tamiya Mini Cooper 94’ Monte Carlo Rally unbuilt and still in its original box and packages whic I bought around five years ago or so. I’m in two minds to build as a shelf queen or build and run the car or even put up for sale as I’m now wanting a clod buster. What would you do?
These make lovely shelf queens because the body is so nice and detailed but if you want to drive it, get an aftermarket body as you can destroy the original body super easy as it has no protection at the front and one hit can really damage them. If you want to sell it, now is the best time as these have not been rereleased in ages by Tamiya, so prices are high for shelf queens and NIB examples. The M-01 chassis is the most desirable but the M-05 with a perfect body still demands good money and it will cover the cost of a NIB Super Clod.
Hi Gav, I've been wanting to race an M-chassis for a while, still haven't managed to find one at a price I can justify, then end up looking for cheaper alternatives! I wondered if you've thought about running a car at SCModels' indoor club in Stevenage? I've only been once- but it looks pretty popular- I reckon Sean would be cool with the cameras :) I Hope you're coping OK with your recent news, all the best Bud!
awesome videos and nice tamiya collections and love it, do you have the 1/8 nitro mini cooper in mint condition, i'm looking for the box coz i have the car with extra bodiy and decals. with an unscratch chassis with the oroiginal manual. thanks.
The M05 is a good basic chassis, with loads of upgrade potential. I had one, got the version 2 chassis and loads of bits for it, then sold it a little while ago. I was going to race it, but ended up with a 3Racing Mini MG Evo, way better chassis and a little cheaper too. To be honest, unless you're going to run the M05 a lot, don't bother upgrading it, just leave it pretty much as it is now, there's no point in forking out loads of cash for hop-ups then sitting it on a shelf ;)
100% agree Barry, it's so easy to blow a load of cash on lovely blue upgrade parts but as it will only be driven for footage on the show and maybe once a year or two, putting that money into another project is a better plan.
I had the opportunity to buy one cause you always think they will be in the inventory forever lol i do have one coming mo5 yaris gr coming in from tamiya 🇺🇸 great find
Hi, I noticed a great looking King Tiger on the shelf behind you on the right. Looks exactly like the one I built a few years ago!.Did you actually build that yourself?
Hi, no I purchased it like this, I didn't build it. I did a video on it a month ago now, if you want to see more detail on it. You wouldn't be the first to find an old RC you owned to turn up on the channel. Last week the person who sold me my Boomarange found my build videos and recognised his old buggy almost three years later.
A good mini is not that easy to find currently due to Tamiya not rereleasing one for a good while unfortunately. The chassis isn't that bad but a nice body, well that's the challenge. Good luck and I hope you get one :)
With the way that van drivers and depots smash up boxes that sometimes contain thousands of pounds worth of gear, there must be gut-wrenching stress while waiting to receive goods whose box condition is a vital part of the overall value. Incredibly, though, the makers of videos in which boxes are opened don't appear to experience the problem of packages being half destroyed before they arrive.
Great info about mini option
We are massive fans of m chassis … m03 is our favourite for racing. Great find

Love the product history, you do them so well. Thank you sir!

A fantastic car as long as you can keep the tin worm away
@@RCKickschannel At least the Tamiya Mini doesn't suffer from plastic worm :)
My favorite kit M05 Mini, I also have the M03 with a Mini Cooper body. Excellent video Rckicks!
Please mention the XLS... Great content as usual Glenn! Looking forward to the Blazer build!!
WHO THE HELL IS GLENN!?! LOL Glenn is Tamiya Legends and RC Legends. LOL I'm Gavin, RCKicks. ;)

That's a great plan. I have seen a woody style mini wagon body somewhere.
Yes I have a few projects myself. Didn't relies the Mini body was so hard to get. Hope you can run it on carpet since your gonna shelf it.
Black roof ..body British racing green with two thin white pinstripes along the side around body line ...great find Gaven 👌😎
About 5 backed up myself and eyeing a serpent 988e or team corally ssx8 on road pan car
OMG, I had a real one in green.
I love this kit

Same, I'm not that good so it would be easy for me to damage this body. Wide open space driving for this one only lol.
Love it.ive had mine 12 years.cost new 137.99.but I've fully Yr upgraded it and it's now brushless
Nice 👍

guy~thank you .how excellent ! 👌
It was a Tamiya Mini that was my first ever hobby grade RC when I was younger. Would really love to get my hands on another one some day.
Sorry Gavin, my bad bud!! No excuses!! Thumbs up as always man!!
I think you doing this one like your old car would be really cool.
Are you glad I remembered you wanted one of these Gav 😁 yes that was me who let you know mate.
I got one of these yet to use it!
Lovely kit, the body is stunning
Id like to hunt one of these down so I can park it on the shelf next to my 1/8 scale Mini Cooper also made by Tamiya. 🙂
Wow I had one 30yrs ago I painted it racing green and wasn't cheap back then had a acoustic rechecked with it.
First reaI kit I ever built. It's a lovely kit sadly parts are a bit tough to come by. Built mine in 2018 I believe cuz local track was running a Mini Cooper class.

@@RCKickschannel Hi. Thanks for the advice. Am leaning more now to selling and getting the Clodbuster.
What would be a good motor for this kit?.
No doubt! Once u try them oil shocks its hard to go back to friction. Lol..👍

Very nice Gavin!! 👍🏻
Brilliant gav ! :) I've got a few minis can't have enough just need to get 1 to use and bash ! :)
Mardave do one as does Kamtec, so a basher / driver one would be cool. Also L&LModels do a mini body that could work.
@@RCKickschannel thanks 😊
Try lc racing in canada they reproduce tamiyas bodies and sticker sets
Team Blue Groove and MCI :) A real lifesaver for so many restorations.
This is still showing on eBay for sale.... 🤔 Can't be many that are brand new with a futaba servo in?
I did see that. It’s not this one

Rip it apart and rebuild it for us :)
Do it the same as your old mini you had
