  • Designer Patrick Handley and home owner Lee invite you on a tour of our Gumdale project, finished in 2020. The two year gap between initial enquiry and build was worth every moment of planning. A seated area under the waterfall, stepping stones, an entertainment deck on the water and multiple entry points really made this an enjoyable project to design and create.

    This is my favorite swim pond of all time. There are so many interactive zones. I also like how there isn't too much wasted space from boulders and you have straight ledges to deep zones.

      We are on 120 and your guys are on 230v, so there is a bit of conflict on electrical. We could certainly wire for 230v for the pumps, but I imaging until US manufactureing gets as energy conscious as you folks we are stuck with inefficient pumps. Nice to know it is possible though.

    • @sirama31
      @sirama31 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely sure if the fence thing is correct. Queensland Building and Construction Commision states, "Please note that a fish pond that is also being used for swimming may be considered a swimming pool and therefore be required to comply with the pool safety standard." www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/your-property/swimming-pools/swimming-pool-safety-laws
      I would be very happy to be corrected though. I love these features, and the aesthetic would be ruined with the implementation of a fence.

    This is what I envisioned when I bought our property with, & I'm pretty sure the team could do it, a complete eco system and water waste system that recycles all waste water into usable water. The dream of being totally self-sufficient, water saving & environmentally friendly and responsible for our exact area is the goal. We already recycle & work towards off grid sustainability that everyone tells me I have big dreams but I want this beautiful 5acs we have in the middle of the most stunning area I know to last for another 100yrs as it's already done. That means being as earth conscious as is possible to get. Pushing boundaries and ideas and people to the absolute edge of their best abilities, skills and technology, that is as non toxic recyclable & environmentally friendly as I & my family can get.
    We want to replant, reanimal, regrow & renew our little 5acs without taking anything more from this place, I want to swim and hydrate the land, us & the native wildlife we live with. We're doing that as completely as we can with our wonderful old farmhouse, so why not when it comes to our recreational facilities. We also are gifted with an incredible area for providing our own food.
    We really want to hand on a legacy to our kids & theirs which can grow, be updated & made better as time passed & the knowledge grows. These guys seem to be on the same path and page as us. Adore the fish aspect to the work as well, we have a number of birds here that rely on the natural food our area provides, the plants, insects and fish are an enormous part of that. We're not the only ones who love water round here!!!!!😊 Even the snakes need a drinky poo in a drought or a super heated day. 🤗 See where I'm going with this, said I had big ideas. ☺️ Love the work, to all who love this type of swimming or ponds as well....... Good On Ya👍✌️🤘💧🇦🇺

  • @johnhildebrand8740
    @johnhildebrand8740 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Patrick - this is amazing. I have two questions. 1- you mentioned (6) 36 W pumps? Do you have a link for the low wattage pumps? 2- In the US most wetlands are about 1 M deep you comments are saying 1.4 M deep. Can you comment on the much deeper wetland? We live in a high desert with very hot summers, I am wondering if it helps to regulate temp?

    • @Waterscapesaustralia
      @Waterscapesaustralia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the great question!

      Our wetlands are calculated at a percentage of the overall water body. When we add depth to wetlands, it could be a combination of temperature control, overall water volume of the project and/or space available vs wetland percentage required for rec ponds. Each project is different.
      The total depth of the wetland including the central centipede excavation is generally between 1.2 and 1.4 meters deep - the variance is in the depth of the pebble substrates . If we have the flow available from the supply pump I do tend to make the substrate layers a little deeper as they will still function correctly whilst increasing the filtration surface area for beneficial bacteria .

      Depth does assist in temperature control - especially in hotter climates, but also in combatting evaporation when coupled with having the water in a reservoir or a deeper wetland.
