Love how you guys reflect back on how these movies affected you in your childhood and the memories they bring. I can still remember when I 1st got HBO on a satellite dish waking up as a kid and watching The Thing and being completely terrified... Or how watching The Exorcist as a kid I still couldn't shake it till I was older to watch it again... Thanks for all the monster den videos they're great. My faves: The Exorcist, Alien, Jaws, The Thing, Texas CSM.

My top 10 horror films are:
#1 Halloween (1978). It's actually my favourite movie of all time.
    #2 Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973)
#3 Night of the Living Dead
    #4 Alien
    #5 The Exorcist
    #6 Creepshow
    #7 They Live
    #8 Suspiria
    #9 Psycho
    #10 Hereditary
Honourable mentions off the top of my head:
    - Chopping Mall

Agreed on Halloween. I saw that movie at far too young an age and Myers haunted me for years afterwards! I was checking behind doors and under my bed, etc. Ridiculous 🤣 but anyway, I came to love the movie as I got older and watched all the sequels, including the awful remakes. It gives a greater appreciation of what a brilliant job John Carpenter and Debra Hill did with that 1978 original.

Totally agree on Night of the Living Dead. The claustrophobia, unpredictability, and tragic ending put it over the others. My list: The Thing, Alien, 28 Days Later, Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, Mandy, Let the Right One In, Lost Boys, Suspiria, and The Shining.

My number one is the oddball which is Halloween III. It's got the mad professor, killer robots, lots of gore, and wait for it: Sacrifice all the children....plus at the end, can the hero stop the mass murder? You just don't know.... Love the soundtrack and the computerized intro displaying the mask

RIP Mrs. Schroeder wherever you are - Thank you for taking me and your son to "Dawn of The Dead" when we were underage. Side note folks - Yes, poor Mrs. Schroeder had to endure this movie for she had NO idea what she was getting in to before we went in. And yes, my friend, was grounded by her for a week for having tricked her into taking us.....
In fact - this comment goes out to EVERY parent who was nice enough to be tricked into taking us kids to horror films we couldn't have got into otherwise.

You mention The Exorcist III, actually "Legion", and that some "are warming to it." It's absolutely brilliant, and has the best jump scare of all-time. Also the bitter, ironic, back-and-forth, between Kinderman and the priest is hilarious. I love it!

For what it's worth: I went back and watched Siskel and Eberts review of The Thing and read Ebert's original newspaper review as well. Ebert never calls it the "worst movie of all time," and gave it two and a half out of four stars. Siskel liked it more, giving it a moderate recommendation. Both thought it was too gross. I seriously doubt Ebert's review kept any horror fans away.

A little too late for me so I want to get my list in before the broadcast starts. A little background, I was a kid in the 60s, grew up with the Universal classics and Hammer films.
    1. Halloween (1978)
    2. Night of the Living Dead (1968). Dawn of the Dead was the better film but I saw this on the big screen when it first came out and it was something I had never seen.
3.. Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).
    4. Frankenstein (1931). Bride of Frankenstein was the better film. But this was the original Karloff classic.
    5.Black Sunday (1960)
    6. Suspiria
    7. The Exorcist
    8. Psycho
    9. Black Sunday(1963)
    10. Dracula (1931)/Horror of Dracula. OK I'm pulling a Pete, this is a tie,. Horror of Dracula is the better movie but as a kid in the 60s I fell in love with the Universal classics. Bela Lugosi will always be my Dracula. Also the beginning of the film at Castle Dracula is classic. Some of the most famous quotes in horror movie history.
HM: The Shining, House on Haunted Hill (1959), Evil Dead, Nosferatu (1922), Carnival of Souls.

    Great selections everyone !
I saw the Exorcist at the cavernous University theatre in downtown Toronto . It was the third day after it was first released , and nobody really knew anything about it . The theatre was packed , and as the movie progressed, you could cut the tension with a knife . Every time Demi went down the hallway , the whole crowd was screaming Don’t Do It ! Don’t Open That Door !! . It is the greatest in- theatre experience that I’ve ever had . Yes , it’s my favourite horror movie of all time .

Growing up and living in Florida, this movie has buried itself so deeply in my psyche that I cannot go into the ocean with turning my head back and forth looking for either the shadow or "the fin." The Exorcist
Night of the Living Dead (I find most of the subsequent zombie flicks gory and spectacular, but not scary.)
Rosemary's Baby (When humor intrudes, it has to be dark in the context of the film, not silly.)
Frankenstein (Old boss, unchallenged by any new boss.)
    Psycho (Hey, Norman!")
The Shining (Spectacular and splashy, but Nicholson rides to the rescue.)
The Horror of Dracula (New boss scarier than the old boss?)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
    Alien
The Omen (You've got me with well-rendered Satanism.)
HMs: I like the second Hellraiser. The Wolfman. The Screaming Skull--silly now, but scared the bejesus when I was ten years old.

Exorcist is by far #1. Classic horror, even on public TV it scared the Cr#$ out of me. Your lists are great, especially Abbott and Costello reminder. One of my favorite goofy zombie scary movie back in the day was Return of Living Dead. Had a few scares, the motorcycle gang and old guy actor who you wouldn't expect to be in the movie, but was great.

Great show and its tough to choose 10 as a fan of the genre. Mine in chrono: The Innocents (1961), The Birds (1963), Night of the Living Dead (1968), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Exorcist (1973), Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978), Alien (9179), Friday the 13th (1980), and The Shining (1980).
Since I lean towards the nostalgia of yesteryear, her are 10 more recent greats: Saw (2004), Trick or Treat (2007), Orphan (2009), Sinister (2011), The Conjuring (2013), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), The Witch (2015), Get Out (2017), Annihilation (2018), and Hereditary (2018)

Love the Hammer horror films. I used to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings when I was a kid, one Saturday I was channel surfing and started watching "Horror Of Dracula" with Lee and Cushing. Stylish and scary, was hooked ever since.
"The Fly" (original) is great, too, as is "Burnt Offerings". I watched those on TV and couldn't sleep for days.

Hey guys I just saw a great movie called X. It's pretty slow to start and seems a bit similar to TCM...But once it gets going it really picks up speed. Some real frights, kills, and a definitely different spin to your usual horror flick. Great stuff, I really loved the way it was filmed as well. If you didn't know it was so current you'd think it was filmed in the 70s.

The Dario Argento film which most scared me was Deep Red or Profundo Rosso. The slasher killer was a woman and a mother and the film's music brilliantly created a fearful atmosphere. Also, when I was young, I found Don't Look Now quite scary and disturbing. Red Parka's still freak me out.

Like with albums, I can't rank my favorites or even put them on a tier chart. Perhaps I could do that with directors. At any rate, some of the greatest horror films for me include:
    The Shining (1980 naturally)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974 of course)
    Videodrome
    Hour of the Wolf
The original Dead trilogy- Night, Dawn and Day
    Repulsion
    The Omen (1976)
    Sisters
    From Beyond
The Ring (2002- I actually appreciate the remake's convoluted backstory over the original)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
    Suspiria (Argento's naturally)
    Häxan
    The Thing (Capenter's version)
    Martin
    Mandy
The Killing of a Scared Deer
My list could go on, but you get the gist.

This may surprise some. But my choice is the 1931 Frankenstein. I think it’s because I was so young when I first saw it. We used to have a Saturday show called Fright Night in Louisville Ky. WDRB 41. Each week they showed two horror movies I was maybe 7 or 8 when I first saw Frankenstein. I can still feel that young sensation of horror when Karloff first walked onto the screen. Just that eerie look on his face. That squared off head. Just scared me senseless. The scene where he throws Maria the little girl into the water is one of the scariest of all time. And there was no special effects. Just such suspense and terror. I mean there were sequels to Frankenstein and of course other scary movie during my life. But still today when I see that movie I shudder. And kind of look over my damn shoulder to see if HES THERE !!!!!

    5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    6. The Exorcist

The Friday the 13th "saga" i don't even consider them horror movies, most are actually laughable. The 2009 remake was actually more intense than the 80s movies.
One final honorable mention to Dawn of the Dead Snyder's remake, the first 20 minutes of that movie are brilliant, but after they enter the mall, the movies goes completely downhill.

BTW It was See You Next Wednesday not Tuesday.

    Great episode.
I wonder if one of you, or anyone else, can help me with a movie I saw years ago. It´s not really a horror movie, but really creepy. I don´t remember much of it. It´s either american or british, probably 80´s or 90´s, and all I can remember is that there´s a demon´s (or the devil´s) soul in human bodies, and as the body possesed is getting old, the soul needs to be transferred to a younger body and there´s a ritual around that, with others involved. I also remember something about mice in a maze, which has something to do with the ritual, I think. And the people who get "possesed" with this demon does this thing with their fingers, tapping their fingertips one by one against their thumb, and at the end of the movie when you think all is ok, the demon or whatever is beaten, you see a young child at a bus stop or something, tapping his/her fingertips against the thumb.
Not much to go on, but maybe someone can spot this...
    Cheers!

Witches, vampires, and slithery things can always get you, but the Japanese have honed horror to a fine art. My wife reminded me that one of the reasons they're so bloody scary, is because they're all based on true stories.
