The next time you're visiting Borough Market again guys... Return to The Ginger Pig... And order yourselves one of their delicious tasting Beef & Vegetable Pasties... Search on here for a video titled... World Famous Ginger Pig Trying Pasties & Scotch Eggs at Borough Market Like You Never Tasted Before... It's of Darren John and his son Luke trying one on a visit last year... Enjoy guys. 👍
I Took my Wife to see a Show in the early 2000s ,I actually got a good Price for the Holiday (Vacation) Well it was Called a Weekend Break .But the Drink Prices in Some of the Pubs ,Bars were absolutely Ridiculous. Compared to the North of England. I only visit Northern Cities now York being my Favourite.
Hopefully lots of people thinking about visiting the UK will catch this. The massively outdated idea that British food is all bland and tasteless still seems to be a thing in some places.
Here here!
It was a popularised notion taken back to the US by American troops after WWII. Of course, when they were here we had rationing, so the food was bland.
We would love to change as many minds as we can with this video. The food was amazing and so was the city. We can't wait to visit again 🇬🇧
Tbf thats an American opinion and as we all know, majority of them are completely ignorant to anything outside of America, except invading countries with oil
@@MackerelCat It's "Hear, hear!" as in "Listen!" Been there thrice, *love* the food!
What they've discovered is the true secret of enjoying British cuisine. It's at its best when it's cold out. It's hearty stuff.
Yes, that is the secret 😃 It was amazing 👏
Traditional English food is very hearty but if you are in London you have to find a Traditional Pie,Mash and Eel shop there are many around ,Manze's,Goddards,Maureen's,H. Cooks ,Cockneys' all are good, you don't have to have the eels but you have to have it with the parsley liquor it's the only way.
Amazing recommendations, thank you so much for sharing. So many good things to try in London 🇬🇧👏
I think your descriptions are lovely and completely relatable. Some people try to find specific or clever ways to critique food, but the mmm's and looks on your faces are worth a million words. Great video.Don't tell people about our sticky toffee pudding they're our secret, along with a cream tea with scones, jam and clotted cream. The Bloops were nice and appreciated.
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, it means the world to us. We are not doing a good job keeping the secret about the sticky toffee pudding as we pretty much tell anybody who will listen about it. It was amazing. And oh my goodness, cream tea with scones, jam and clotted cream. I think I might just have to book a flight back right now 😃
Yorkshire pudding is roasted batter, not bread haha, that roast dinner looked excellent, but you definitely chose too much stodge for one day out...food coma incoming!...x
They were complaining that the food was "heavy" in their words. Nobody was stopping them from getting a salad !
The food coma was real, but more than worth it 😃
And no complaints here, I promise, we just wanted to eat more of that delicious food 😃
@@ThePassportCouple Your love of food is clear! I hope you have made great memories here in the UK...bon voyage! x
I am British and everything looks delicious.
It was amazing, and a very good day for us 😃
Thank you for Hopefully showing the world how to eat British food, I hate watching American's eating each item individually (Like children) then moaning its dry. You got to wet it up a bit and mix it together.
We really enjoyed the food. We like to eat food individually to understand the flavor a bit more, but always enjoy a good mash up too
All what i would call comfort food.
So good 👏
Hopefully now you've had a full English, you can appreciate why we drink so much! A proper breakfast can cure most known ills.
We can definitely appreciate that. The beers in the pubs were amazing and who wouldn't look forward to a full English the next morning? We loved it.
Not sure when you were here, but, would you eat a salad on cold days like that? The idea that British food was terrible came from the US soldiers over here during the war, everything was rationed so we had to make do with what we had that meant eating the things we would have binned before the war. Even after the war things like banana's, oranges and other fruits were not available for years, there were more important items to import to get the country back on it's feet, don't forget Britain was virtually under siege by the U-Boats in the war, war materials were more important than spices.
Traditional Full English does not have potatoes
Chinese new year in June?
No, the video was filmed earlier this year. It was a fun sight to walk through.
Glad you enjoyed :)
Loved it 😃
that’s BURRA market! For next time you visit. Eat and enjoy.
I've never seen potatoes on an english breakfast, but it looked nice.
Fried or sauteed potatoes are very common...
@@Alan_Mac I've never seen them on an English breakfast.
@@chrisstones3488 Long before hash browns became a thing the b'fast potato of choice was the fried potato - made from cold, sliced boiled potato. Traditionally fried in bacon fat and much superior to the hash brown imposter.
I cook them at home but you can still find them in some small cafes or hotels.
Yum, it was all so good. Thanks for weighing in all 🙌
We do not drink tea all the time... Only between meal's.... Heathen
That gravy looks like bisto..... yuk!
It was wonderful 😃
London London London yawn yawn yawn.
Sticky toffee pudding is one of the best things our taste buds have ever had the pleasure of eating 😍 That sausage roll was INSANE (marinating in butter for three years 😂)! And that Sunday roast! 🤤 Harry Potter and the Darkness of the Latter Day is my favorite of them all 🤪
It was all so incredibly amazing. And despite being so full, we were ready for round 1, 2, 3, and 4. And, yes, Darkness of the Latter Day. Reboot? 🤔
Jam roly poly and custard is up there :)
The reputation that English food is bland and tasteless still seems to prevail in America. The truth is our food isn't flashy or ostentatious but it is wholesome, hearty comfort food. Thank you for recognising this and putting it out there, hopefully the word will get out.
We loved it and were happy to put this out there. Hopefully fewer will overlook this delicious cuisine 🇬🇧👏
Sugar, fruits and spices in the UK became so common the affluent people couldn't show off with them so they showed off by getting the best ingredients and relying on their quality, rather than spices. The meat and other ingredients had to be fresh as there wasn't anything to cover it up. This was reinforced by the second world war rationing.
This came from WW2 when because of rationing the soldiers experienced stodgy, fatty and mostly not too tasty food due to lack of real world ingredients.
Yorkshire pudding isn't anything like bread. It's flour, eggs and milk.
Yes it's more like NON-US pancake, same recipe, they say "pop over" but I bet they put sugar in the recipe
Bangers & mash should be eaten with onion gravy. Proper onion gravy is what they serve in heaven.
That sounds delicious, we could eat the different variations all day 😃
"SHOCK" American uses knife & fork correctly.
Over here in Blighty, we all love our stodge! When you are genuinely hungry, there's nothing to beat it!
Totally agree 👍
The thought of paying for bangers and mash and getting two sausages and a spoon full of mash is going to keep me awake at night. I'd expect at least four bangers and a bucket of mashed potatoes. Dinner for tomorrow is sorted 😂
That's obscene caveman sh*t though.
Mother mash is the best mash shop in London. Just don't do pie, mash and liquor. They've not got that down.
Love where your heads at, we loved what we got, but we are never opposed to eating more...even if we are full 😃
It is London.. 😂 us northerners load up the bangers n mash! With onion gravy too!
@@susanvanderbilt358 At home, of course
Potatoes on a full English?? I've never seen that before!!
i was about to comment on that but i seen you a full english dont have potatoes
I'm not against it though
Bubble and squeak, hash browns or just chips on an all day breakfast. Nothing odd about getting spuds with a full English. I'm not saying it's classic but it's definitely a part of the optional extras.
A couple people have said that. We loved it, they were very well prepared 🥔👏
@@robertclarke2743 Technically, once the chips (or roasties) are added it changes from a full English to a brunch.
You are a lovely couple the lady has a good sense of humour and had me laughing all the way through your videos I'm glad you had a nice time here.
This is such a sweet comment, thank you so much 🙌 We had a wonderful time and so much fun filming and eating 😃
Brilliant ! You two are so professional and likeable, and obviously well equipped, technically and knowledge wise, to produce these quality videos. Excellent entertainment. Thank you. Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Thank you so much, this is such a kind comment 😃 When we come back, we definitely want to visit Sheffield, it looks very beautiful 🇬🇧👏
The sticky toffee pudding has dates and black treacle that’s what gives it the richer taste.
We are grateful for those ingredients because it was amazing 👏
The thing with traditional British foods is that they tend not to be heavy on spices, which ends up giving us a reputation for bland unseasoned food, but it's really just that flavours are often quite subtle and lean more heavily on herbs
We loved it. We felt everything was simple (in a very good way), balanced with herbs, and just plain delicious. We wanted to try more than we even did 😅
@@ThePassportCoupleplenty of spice in the cooking too. Lots of unbelievable Indian restaurants in the UK also, given the colonial history. British cuisine is infused with flavours from around the world
I really appreciate the lady eating a breakfast with a little of everything on the fork. That is how the English eat all their meals.
It all went perfectly together 🍳 Delicious 🇬🇧👏
That’s coz us Brits know how to actually use a knife n fork together.. all the way through a meal..so we can multi task it on the fork with the knife n never have to put said knife down swap hands n then swap again.. to start the cuttin up process😂😂😂
I know lots of us that don't eat like that
Yorkshire pudding is a batter more like a pancake mix not bread. Pronounce shire the same way you would New Hampshire :) Fun video
Thanks for sharing that with us 🙌 The dish is etched into our minds forever 😃
Good blog, but you mentioned food being unhealthy, it's actually quite the opposite, it's fresh ingredients, no chemical colourings, additives, preservatives or flavourings, it makes you feel full so you don't need much of it, therefore it gives you the energy you need to keep exploring
I'm not sure how it happened but when tourists come to the UK they order stuff that hardly any British person eats :D Maybe they did in the 1800s or something.
Been 11 years now...sigh...wish I could get back there. I can't stand melted ice cream, I always opted for heavy cream over my Sticky Toffee Pudding. And it's brown sugar sponge cake. It's so goood. And that brown onion gravy 😋 But please, it's York-shurr.
We hope you can get back there soon too, it's a wonderful place. Sounds like you are in camp Alicia on the ice cream, but heavy cream sounds pretty good to me. So many variations to try. we definitely have to go back ✈️🇬🇧
Thats how thick gravy should be! :-)
Thank you for spreading actual info about London.
Of course, we loved it there and can't wait to come back 🇬🇧💛
We normally remove head wear when indoors otherwise it could be considered as bad manners.
Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate that and never meant to be rude 😅
@@ThePassportCouple I didn't think for one minute that you were being rude.
In someone's home, sure. Not in a public place
There is no such thing as a bad sticky toffee pudding (maybe avoid Wetherspoons) - it's a classic, rich sponge pudding, we love our sponge puddings with cream, ice cream or custard.
It's making me hungry just reading this comment. We miss the sticky toffee pudding. It was so good and can't wait to have it again 😃
Brits dont usually have potatoes for breakfast. And it wasn't a Cumberland sausage, that's a spiral.
It's black treacle that gives the sticky toffee pudding it's rich taste. It's not a baked sponge cake ( although a quick version could be) It's steamed, so it's a pudding, not a cake.
It was so delicious. A dish we will certainly never forget 😃
@ThePassportCouple you need to go to the place it was invented, Cartmel in our beautiful Lake District...don't eat fish & chips on this side of the country though, the fish from this part of the Irish sea has bee affected by radiation leaks from Windscale nuclear power station, pop over to Northumberland, or North Tyneside, experience gorgeous, long beaches, the largest forest in the UK, Keilder & it's observatory (2nd Dark Sky Park in the world after California) & largest in Europe. Also see THE most beautiful castles anywhere, this is the Kingdom of Castles, we have more in our county than any other county in the UK ! Watch Si,Drone guy, look for Bamburgh & you'll get the idea 😅
Respect, for using cutlery the right way. Great vid guys.
Well thank you 😊
An excellent London showcase video. Cheers.
Thank you and cheers 🍻
Fried chunks of potato. That's old school. Well done that cafe!
They potatoes were awesome 👏
Ill let Americans know why we call black pudding and Dessert Pudding. It's because it comes from the old English word for steamed The majority of all British dessert are steamed So puddning
pudding is anything steamed, it's just not dessert. Are savouries like steak kidney pudding, etc.
Thanks for sharing
@@niallrussell7184 This Yank *loves* S & K pudding!
Are you cheating on Shibuya Honey Toast with the Sticky Toffee Pudding?! 🤣
Busted 😂 We will chalk it off to recency bias, but rest assured, Honey Toast will always and forever be our number one 💛 Thanks for making our day with this comment, it was such a great callback 🇹🇭💛🇬🇧
Brilliant try a curry next time you visit 😊😊
We will, thanks for the recommendation 🙌
That's not a Full English and choice of Sausage and Mash didn't look the best 😬
Maybe it was our bad camera work if we didn't make it look good, but our taste buds loved it 😃 Thanks for watching 🙌
The square you were sitting in is called Grosvenor, where the American Embassy used to be located (it moved a few years ago). Perhaps your American feet automatically walked you there
British food will seem heavy if you only eat heavy food. For a lighter meal, try Dover Sole, asparagus, and new potatoes, ham salad (any type of salad), have soft boiled eggs with soldiers for dipping into the yolk and a mug of tea for breakfast, prawn cocktail etc etc etc
That is the milkiest tea I've ever seen
You would think you might not have come 3000 miles just to eat and drink.nWeird.
There's always enough room for another sticky toffee pudding!
Always 😃
Re: the bacon that she said looked like ham - that's back bacon as opposed to streaky bacon that Americans eat. It's from the part of the pig that Americans would recognize from a pork chop. Re: Yorkshire pudding - it's not made with milk AND water and flour. That would make a paste. It's got eggs in it. Milk, eggs and flour. And it's pronounced York-sure not shy-er. Listen to what the English people around you are saying. Then repeat after them.
Getting a bit of everything piled on the fork is the most British thing you could do 😋
The highest compliment, thank you 😃
We actually drink more coffee than tea in the UK.
That's perfect, we blend in even better than we thought 😃
Eating pudding first then main meal. Bit weird innit!!!
It probably is weird because we are very weird 🤪 Loved every second of it though
@ThePassportCouple Glad you enjoyed our amazing country. Buy not amazing weather lol
I adore Borough Market. They have a gal that makes a mushroom pate that I'd sell my sister for! I can't recommend it enough!
Didn't she smuggle drugs for Henry Hill in Good fellas? It is! It's Lois the babysitter!
"In this beautiful park. I don't even know where we are." It looks like Grosvenor Square. Take out an A to Z or just look at your phone. You ought to know at least where the heck you are.
Glad you enjoyed your UK visit. Let's put the word out about British food! 😊
Let's do it 👍
Sticky Toffee Pudding tastes much better with hot custard. Your tea looked way too milky.
You're stating personal taste as fact
@@NickHunter No, just my personal taste.
We would love to try it with hot custard, anything to try it again 😃
I like my mash with cheddar melted in and grilled on top.Or a bit of stilton in there.Im not too fussy.
I Worked at the borough market when there was a printers! They fucked us of and replaced us with foooooood! Slags. lol
😂 definitely a bunch of slags!
Thanks for sharing such a memory with us, brought a smile to our faces 😃
Mashing up an English breakfast is just wrong. Don’t do it.
Aw, sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves 😅
Just one thing, you do not wear a hat at the table when having a meal. !!
Pre-WW2, British gastronomy was World renowned. The myth of poor UK food came from US GIs experiencing war ration food. Post WW2 Britain was flooded with low quality cheap US food imports, such as tinned ham, corned beef, Spam and Fray Bentos tinned pies. Thankfully, Britain's got it's food mojo back, with a vengeance. I'd put modern British food up against ANY country.
The food mojo is back in a big way, we loved it
Fantastic take on my home town, but....please pronouce Yorkshire (pudding) as you would New Hampshire. No emphasise on the 'Shire'. You will fit right in then guys.....
Love the tip, thanks for sharing 🙌 And you have an amazing hometown by the way 🇬🇧👏
@14:30 Grosvenor Square (on the west side, previously the US Embassy). Then you headed into Shepherds Market for Sunday scran - some really good history there! Glad you enjoyed your UK visit
Amazing history there, you are right. We loved every second in the UK and will be back one day soon ✈️🇬🇧
Sir please open your mouth when you speak.
It's pronounced "burra" market
Great video! Glad you enjoyed your time in London. UK food is so underrated. A lot of it is like a warm hug on a cold day.
A warm hug on a cold day is the perfect description and how we felt all day. Thanks for watching and saying hello 👋
Nice to see that you visited The Market Tavern in Shepherd Market. It’s a good pub for a meal and a pint of Camden Hells. Definitely more of a gastropub than a boozer, but on a nice day the corner by the side door where you exited can fill up with a crowd enjoying their pints al fresco.
Thanks for the tip! We enjoyed The Market Tavern and appreciate the insight about the al fresco spot. Cheers!! 😊
Bacon is not Ham, Bacon is taken from the Loin of the Pig. Ham comes form the Gammon ( rear Leg) or Hock ( Front Leg) of the Pig. All Pig meat can be Green, i.e fresh, or Cured either in Brine or Smoked.
Ohh, thanks for the info! 😊 Bacon and ham are definitely different, and it’s cool to learn more about their origins and curing methods!
How is it, I learn more about my city from Americans/Canadians vlogs === great travel report...
Haha, glad we had a few good bits of info in there. Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment, it's much appreciated
It’s just “London Bridge” and “tower bridge” - there’s no “the”! Great video though guys!
Fair point, and thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed eating the food 😃
If you would like to have a more traditional and in my opinion a better Sunday Roast, you will find them better up north. Especially in North Yorkshire, the same applies for Fish and Chips in north eastern coastal towns such as Whitby or Scarborough!
Thank you for the amazing recommendations 🙌 We will be back and look forward to exploring more of the UK 🇬🇧
Wish there was decent bacon available in the USA. 🥓
It’s definitely different there, we agree.
You should be in the UK for the 'Carnival'. In August.😅😊😮
Now that would be fun. And, hey, you never know, we might just do it 😃
Bacon comes from the Old English word for back Streaky bacon or American bacon come from the old English word of belly lol which ones bacon again lol
Thanks for sharing, that is great information 🙌 Big bacon fans here 😃
Need to try a curry next time
We will add it to the list, sounds delicious 😃 Thanks for sharing 🙌
So you still have to experience british indian food ...for next time
Next time indeed 😃
I have a Ginger pig butchers shop by my house in West London... They do so many great dishes. Sausage roll wise - I would recommend the pork and stilton one - It is incredibly rich you would need to share it but WOW is it tasty!
It was awesome and we will definitely have to try your recommendation next time. Thanks 🙌
Potato is not part of breakfast
I honestly dont know how you ate so much at once, it seemed you had like 4 full lunches back to back lol.
We don't understand it, either, sometimes we feel like competitive eaters 😂 It's definitely easier to do when we love the food 🇬🇧👏
You did well to share a full english, cant say ive witnessed that before 😂 Should find a greasy cafe for the breakfast though, better than a posh version 😉
Great video guys, what a lovely couple 😊
Thanks for the amazing comment 🙌 We will definitely try a greasy cafe next time. If you have any recommendations, please let us know and we will add it to our next visit. Thanks again 😃
They're right . The best breakfasts are always from a greasy spoon . The same with fish and chips , always better from a proper chippy
Your video has blown the theory of British food is boring and bland
Love that 👏
Steak on a roast WTF?
What a lovely couple! The video made me hungry.
Aw, thank you so much, this is such a sweet comment ☺️ I was very hungry editing this video, but if you are hungry by the end, it is the ultimate compliment 😃 The food in London was great 🇬🇧👏
I'm so sorry but when you cut up your breakfast and mixed it all I was internally screaming. Loved everything else though. 😂❤❤
Thanks for watching and leaving such an honest comment. It brought a smile to our face. Glad you enjoyed everything else 😃
@@ThePassportCouple mixing it all is how we eat it so strange comment they made
Why would she mix up her English breakfast? Its not stir fry

Nonsense

We loved it, but a roast at home is a wonderful thing too 👏
I agree. I can do a roast 1000 times better than eating out
You must have spent a fortune.
Definitely our most expensive food tour yet, but the deliciousness was well worth it, plus since we ate so much, we often shared 😅
Yep a fry up is best mushed up
