I think the South American Ipanema are very similar to the Cornish Pasty..And the Cab Shelters were once just for London Taxidrivers, but over the yrs, they decided to have a 'take out' counter.
Another great vlog! Seriously, wish I could hire you two to be the guide for our trip in 2024! You are fun and informative, and this was one of the very best "places to eat" vlogs I've watched! One of my favorite parts of travel is definitely finding the best local food options, and I agree with you and try to 'make every meal count'. So glad you mentioned the locations for the Cabmen's Shelters! I was wanting to find one, so this was very helpful.
@@YourGuidesAbroad it's somewhat ironic, that being born & raised in London (into one of those once typical large Irish family's & the Irish like their Tea& Irish Sosa Bread) But I don't think i've ever visited one of the Hotels for Afternoon Tea. ( some of my sisters have for a birthday occasion) And after living in the US ( for 24 yrs) I think u have spurred me on to partake.( I'll make sure I visit one of these Hotsls for the experience,in the new yr)
You should add that afternoon tea at the Ritz will set you back £150 ($190) for two (or more.) You can find it less expensive, but no matter where you get it, it will be expensive for what it is. However if you should find yourself in the West Country (Somerset or Cornwall) a cream tea is a must.
If you want to experience afternoon tea in great surroundings try the Wolseley directly opposite the Ritz. Beautiful cafe/restaurant and the cost is considerably less than its famous neighbour 😁
Im Northern English, Not Ventured South For a Few years Now , I always go North now York for example. But found your video very informative and Fun .Great variation of Foods and venues .Well done ✔️
@YourGuidesAbroad Nah Mate always North for me .For the Prices for one thing .My kids are grown. Only went to show them the Museums and historical Heritage. But still Great video .
If you’re referring to Buckingham Palace, as a Londoner, I wouldn’t recommend. Usually overcrowded no table service and a bit ordinary. There are literally dozens of much better options.
I actually disagree about Brick Lane. Tried many restaurants there over the years and tbh it's totally average. The prices are reasonable for London, but the food is pretty much interchangeable between the restaurants, and nothing that you can't get in any other Indian restaurant across the UK. I have a feeling that the chefs just move around from one restaurant to the other. The restaurants that tend to get the highest ratings in Brick Lane are usually the ones that aren't doing Indian, but Thai or something like that, and even those are pretty average.
Thanks so much for watching our new channel! We are still launching the website, right now it is just the download for the free guide. We will get the website links up and running in January.
Headed to London next week, thanks for all the great info!!! I'm ready! But, unfortunately I cant seem to find the itinerary for a day to borough, please help 😅
Just get to London Bridge station, follow the signs to Borough Market. There's tons of food stands and great pubs all along the south riverside. Also the Tate Modern gallery right next door and St Paul's Cathedral over a footbridge over the Thames river. If you're in the mood for something a bit rowdier there's a class pub called Bavaria next to borough market which as you might guess has a bavarian brass band doing crazy covers of pop power ballads n shit, the whole pub singing their hearts out, it's a blast. Only on fri and sat iirc. And if you swing by the market porter tell em I'm sorry about my tab :D
You seem like a lovely family and love your videos as new subscriber , im from the UK and i love this!! Any reason why the harwood arms lost a michelin star???
thanks so much for subscribing! That means a lot when folks from the UK enjoy our videos. We don't need the details on why they lost it but it is very hard to keep a star. Michelin stars come and go for restaurants, but it still puts them on the map!
I'm glad you found us! Have a wonderful trip and we have more London videos coming out! I haven't had a bad Brick Lane Indian food dinner yet. Give Preem a try!
haha, that is great that they gave refreshments. Such a smart way to keep people in the line and then spend more when they get inside. They always have a wonderful staff when we visit.
It is strange to hear you refer to the Ivy as a chain restaurant. The Ivy opened in 1917, the second restaurant did not open until 2014 so I guess it did become a chain then.
They are lovely restaurants and we like going to them a lot. They are popping up all over the place. Our small-ish town in Surrey got one 5 years ago. I am sure they will maintain their quality!
Good vid - but it’s not Cornish ‘parstie’ it’s “pastie’ with a flat ‘a’ as in ‘has’ or ‘hash’ - I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it the way you did and I’ve lived here my entire life😂
@@vickiamundsen2933 Here in the UK both short crust and puff pastry can be either sweet or savoury. I just find it odd, because neither looks like bread.

Pleasant video to watch. Thanks 👍
Thanks for the recos. I was able to make a reservation at Dishoom (Carnaby).
Well done! We visited the Carnaby location on our last trip!
Thank you!! I had never heard of a few of those!!

This is super helpful! Read there is an option for afternoon tea at the palace too!
If you’re referring to Buckingham Palace, as a Londoner, I wouldn’t recommend. Usually overcrowded no table service and a bit ordinary. There are literally dozens of much better options.
You should try a resurant called The India, its one of three they have in the City. Its just by Cannon Street. Really nice
Thanks for sharing the tip! Always looking for good and authentic Indian restaurants.
Some good shouts especially Brick Lane.

You showed Preem restaurant, but didn't mention on the video. Is it good?

I really liked Dishoom when I went, and yeah the wait was like two hours, but they got me drunk on free brandy!

I need a dedicated with kids/toddler video for London ha. I saw some have playgrounds but are a bit out of the way.
Tried planning our day and locations around Borough Market for lunch. Got there on a Monday and it's closed on Mondays : \
oh no! That is horrible! I hope the rest of your visit went well!
@@YourGuidesAbroad Thanks :) Love your channel!
Can you recommend an afternoon tea experience that would be good for a solo traveler? I don’t need traditional quirky preferred
Yes! Erica recommends Sketch. It is fancy but a very quirky and modern.
Also, Ivy Asia is is tea with an Asian twist and is only £30
Chaiwala is worth checking out.
Thanks for sharing. We will check it out.
If you are looking for an amazing Vegan restaurant try Amrutha in Earlsfield South London close to Wimbledon. Great food, great service, great value.
Thanks so much for sharing!!
3:38 £32 for afternoon is nuts.
It is hard to get an afternoon tea for less than £40 in London now. Even the museums are higher. Do you know of any?
@@YourGuidesAbroad I could see paying that at a museum, since (i assume) it helps the museum with funding. But I saw 80 pounds at Fortnums!
❤

@@YourGuidesAbroadit’s also not bread it’s pastry 😊
Bread, meant, egg, beans, onion and sometimes added with cheese. Which is made into 200 different meals, sums up british food.
With respect, that's ill-informed nonsense.
Think you’re confusing British food with American food
You have never been, have you?
What absolute codswallop!
Most of the things you mentioned I found as blah. You have good attitudes.
What does hit them up mean ??
A lot of the stuff you've shown are in VERY expensive areas of London!!
Thanks for watching. Central London and the neighborhoods we highlight are the popular destination for visitors.
Central London is expensive but if you avoid the tourist rip off hot spots to eat you’ll find good value at many places.
Her hair colour white at the centre and brown coloured rest.. makes her look hot!!
Pasty is made from pastry, not bread
Thanks for clarifying!
Typically short crust.
I've seen a few Americans refer to the pasty case as 'bread'. I'm curious as to why really.
@@carolineskipper6976 possibly because we assume pastry (short crust) is sweet, not savory.
@@vickiamundsen2933 Here in the UK both short crust and puff pastry can be either sweet or savoury. I just find it odd, because neither looks like bread.
It’s not bread is pastry !! hence the name
It is passsty not parsty please. To be called a Cornish pasty it has to be made in Cornwall.
Ok you need to iron your husband’s shirt before you shoot a video. Just saying first thing I noticed.
Have his arms fallen off? He can do that he myself surely?
If it even matters, he could iron his own shirt.

Petty comment.
