Nice review! Never liked Benchmade til I got 940. What a fantastic EDC knife. Just ordered my 2nd BM, Mini Grip. Keeping my fingers crossed for a centered blade...
I got my mini grip over the full sized grip solely for the fun factor. The flick is just so much more satisfying after trying both even though I think technically the full size is better in every way. I’ll still buy another mini tbh it’s just so fun
I just like the overall usefulness of the full sized, it I do enjoy carrying the small more, or coarse. It also comes down to my overall preference as of late, which has been more towards larger folders.
john treadway yes, I have. I have had two bugouts, and I love the one I have now. Yeah, it’s not the best slicer, but’s it’s a nice little edc knife. Hahaha nice:)
Im having trouble deciding between this version of the griptilion or the spyderco brouwer. Ive watched both your reviews! Do you have any recommendations between the two? I know you werent a fave if the s30v of the brouwer but ive been a fan of it.
Hmm... that’s an interesting one. I am a fan of S30v, actually, I think it was just that example. I’ve had Taichung S30 before, and it’s usually pretty good. I would say this, the Brouwer is better as a cutting tool, but the mini grip would be better for flipping and also better looking if you as me. The mini grip also maybe has slightly better ergos. It depends on what you’re looking for, and what your general uses require. Hope that helps.
The mini-griptilian 556-1 has been my edc for the last 3 or 4 years and it’s been excellent in every way. I absolutely love the ergonomics of the handle and the 20cv has held up phenomenally. Plus, the mini grip is just excellent in the pocket and I hardly ever notice it until I need to cut something.
I own Spyderco Brouwer and I can say it is a cool knife, only trouble is in its cutting edge which is IMO to short. Now I am waiting for mini griptilian and I hope cutting edge on it will be longer. I got Mini griptilian 556-1. Again very cool knife but the handle is a bit to short. Spyderco Brouwer vs Benchmade 556-1 1:1 😀
Yours really is thick behind the edge, my 550 sheepsfoot is .016 behind the edge and cuts nicely at 17 dps. Makes me want to bring calipers if I ever decide to buy a 555.
Outpost 76 haha Yeah, wouldn’t be a bad idea. My full size grip seems to be a lot thinner behind the edge than the mini, but I’ll have to check with the calipers when I get home. .016 is sweet!! That thing must slice like a dream.

I'm surprised how taste changes, I didn't care for the mini Grip at all. My daughter wanted one and when it came I find myself liking it now.
Outpost 76 haha Yeah, for a small knife, you get a good bit of cutting edge, and the handle fills the hand nicely. Just a tad short for my hands.
Do you prefer this or bugout for you let edc?
Have you handled the reg mini grip? Did ya get the Bugout? I have this one . Not as slicey as my other knives but cuts good. Call mine the bean.

That mirror polished edge tho
stropping on leather gives a nice polished edge :)
This is where the premium price goes to.
Holy bevels! Those things are HUGE!
