    I really hate Benchmade. Why cant they just listen to their damn customers? I mean, just once, one time. For one product. We want the 42!!!

    • @deezebee2
      @deezebee2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You see, the problem is that the model 42 was too expensive to manufacture, and benchmade was actually loosing money from it, so they had to stop making it.

    • @sylosisdark7093
      @sylosisdark7093 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      deezebee2 benchmade users should go on strike and refuse to buy their products until they re release the model 42 !!!!!

    • @sylosisdark7093
      @sylosisdark7093 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      exactly, eventually, people will stop buying their products. Maybe they could release the 42 and put the price up to cover the COST like a business should. That way everone wins

    • @dumpsterfire9797
      @dumpsterfire9797 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      deezebee2 calm down, it's a single company that's getting too cheap to listen to customer demands, the only reason they make money is because they're so damn overpriced, people with too much money to know what to do with buy them like candy. you can customize a $20 butterfly knife to be just as good quality as a $300 one

    • @zakarywin7645
      @zakarywin7645 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      John Rafferty If you can "customize a $20 balisong to be as good as a $300 one, then we would all be doing it, and be rich as hell from the resale value.

    I've got a Model 42 and a 62T and this is all pretty spot on, but I will say that I actually appreciate the deficiencies of the 60 series for practice purposes because it's great for building finger strength and dexterity as I have to put more oomph into my tricks and the shorter handles forces me to be more accurate.

  • @knifezoid
    @knifezoid  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah I've been told this before about other discontinued knives. I just covered it cause many people do own the 42 and a lot of people ask if its worth pursuing over the 62 despite its inflated price.

    The 42 just looks better, in addition to everything you said in the video. It's blade is slicker, and the handles are more defined and overall nice looking.

    ok, the 42 was a masterpiece.. everyone thats ever flipped know that. nothing else can live up to the 42 but the 62 is a damn fine knife on its own merits.

    • @knifezoid
      @knifezoid  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +subversive775 Except the Alpha Beast and Replicant. Some people like the 51 over the 42. There is also the Arc Angel, Basilisk, Ti Basilisk, EDOC balis which many people prefer over the 42.

    • @unvisible805
      @unvisible805 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i've owned a lot of those knives (besides the arc angel and ti basilisk) and the 51 and bradley are my favorites. and im not saying that a lot of people don't prefer the alpha beast (thats an awesome knife btw) or any of the others to the 42.. but the 42 is like the gold standard. while finding an 42, AB, arc, or basilisk will run you upwards of $400, the price of the 62 is fairy good for what it is. yes, for $300 they could have made some better choices but it is still a nice knife.

    • @knifezoid
      @knifezoid  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +subversive775 quality wise I can't argue. It is typical Benchmade which is top notch. But flipping/handling I think you'll find most people are in agreement it just isn't there. I do not see it used in any flipping/battle videos.

    I have a feeling I'm going to like the 62 more than the 42. I miss old school, heavier balisongs, although I'm a big fan of my 51, I don't flip it as much as I use it for EDC tasks. I flipped my Twist more than I did my 42, simply because of the added weight. I would have liked the Kimura more, but I hated its balance and shape. The 62 looks like it'll have every feature I want in a balisong. Great video as always, KZ.

    Hey there knifezoid!
    i was wondering if you might have a fix for my issue. I have a polished titanium knife, but find the handles get super sticky. Tried powdering my hands which sort of worked, but can gum up pivots.
    Drives me mad as i can do all my combos way faster with cheap trainer coz the steel doesn't stick to my fingers lol. Any help would be appreciated.
    PS love ya videos.

    • @knifezoid
      @knifezoid  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      High polish can actually be grippy depending on the finish. If you really like the finish you may have to stick with it and just use powder. Otherwise a brush/less polished finish might suit you better. But that would require refinishing and I'm not sure how much it would actually help. Also, try a G10 knife, tends to be less sticky.

    Are they a poor choice? The crowned spine can be used without bothering to flip open the blade at all. Sort of as a more dangerous koppo stick. I have been considering the model 62 despite its inflated price tag, but my use for it would be primarily as an edc/tactical blade. Can you tell me some reasons why it would be a poor choice for this just for arguments sake? I really feel that the balisong design is more sturdy than say, a spyderco military, with its liner-lock mechanism.

  • @knifezoid
    @knifezoid  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think it was meant as a direct replacement. I don't know what their marketing strategy was exactly. If it was I'd say it falls short. As a stand alone new knife it's high quality for sure. Just doest perform as a flipper as well as the 42. Ti is definitely more expensive and harder to machine than steel.

    It's a shame, I have had about 4, $5-10 Balisongs that lasted for about a few weeks each, and have become very advanced with flipping, and wanted to get a 42, just recently I realized they are discontinued. I want to get the 62, however the handles as steel and T-latch make me not even want to go near it, However I know there are legit 42's out there, not the fakes, where you can buy, would you know were to get one?

      I actually recently received the prodigy. It is a world of difference from the CCC I was flipping. My only issue with it is, it is very pinchy around the tang, i actually cut myself on it pretty often.

    • @zakarywin7645
      @zakarywin7645 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, but i'm getting better at working around it. Moves like the cherrypicker almost get me every time xD. All in all i would still recommend it though. The prodigy trainer is leagues ahead of even something like the BM62T. Something about the BM62T that really puts me off is the weight.

    Yeah, I was a little disappointed in how it performs as a flipper. It's smooth and has great tolerances (and sharp ass D2), but the dims and weight are too far off to be considered a go-to flipper. Great review. You were spot on... except the pb's in 42's.
    ; ) hehe

      Mine is a 42 MC which came with a clip stick from Benchmade.

    All I can say is, if they bring it back in some new way/shape or form... I say just Frankenstein the 2. The 42 handle as far as construction, weight & length with the spring latch, but with zen pins & have a rounded crown like the 62. Now that's a dream bali!

      Benchmade made that knife. It is the BM 42-400. BUT, they only made like a 125 of them.

    Loosey is CEO I'm VP, and Matt is our lead maker. There were 200 pre order ABs on Bladehq, but I think they are all gone now. We definitely want to make more but are focusing on getting these 200 out first.

    Was going to buy the 62, then I found out it had a t latch and was heavier. Did Benchmade get bought or something? Seriously I'm liking their new knives less and less. The 51 Morpho is okay though.

    I have no idea about UK/international knife laws. I"m sure the info is available on a govt website though in your country.

    I learned more 150 tricks and many difficult with heavy balisong 6oz same size same weight than the 62 and it’s very nice but I know what you think about him but i find the 62 and the 6X are very underestimated.. ok BRS is better but it’s so difficult to find and buy them, and they are so very expansive.. i love my 6X and I’m really thinking with training you can make the same performance with a 62 or 42
