Lovely ride. Lovely walk. Lovely music.👍👍🎶🤗😳. Beautiful day. Red rock. Blue water. Thank you much. Hope I don't drive anywhere with a thorough car search.....sooo much stuff crammed into my little car.. Take care.
I was downstairs working on one of the generators while they were building that bridge. Pretty cool to watch! Won $500 in that casino, and had a room with a very good view of the lake, when it was a lake!!!
We walked across it 40 years ago. I agree it has really changed. Last time we were there was 2010. It wasn't open to walk or drive then and the new high rise bridge wasn't open yet. My daughter has height issues and it freaked her out just looking at it! We had to go thru security on the Arizona side.
Well Russ I am a bit upset that you did not take us on across the dam before you signed off. Lol Last time I was there was in the 70s even got a tour inside the dam, something I will never forget. Anyway thanks for taking us along Russ.
It's been years since I've been to the Dam. I am looking forward to seeing your next video. With the lake being so low it makes me wonder how many more bodies are found.
We were there not too long after the crane collapse happened during the I-11 bridge construction. That was quite a setback. It is an amazing feat of engineering, including the turbines/powerhouse.
I remember years ago while traveling from Ohio by motorcycle, leaving Vegas KOA and going to the Dam on the old road. Took the dam tour starting in one state- exiting in another state., way b4 911.!! Times will never be the same. Thought I'd tell you about my visit., and no roundabouts. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
Awesome video, Russ! Brings back a lot of memories. I made my first of many trips to Las Vegas in 1995. I flew into Phoenix, rented a car, spent the night in Wickenburg and drove across the desert to Vegas. Although I was sick with the flu, I had a great trip. Remember seeing a coyote. Of course, the new bridge wasn’t built then so I drove across Hoover Dam. I am so happy I had that experience. Over the years I crossed Hoover Dam several times. Now (before I suffered a rather severe stroke in 2014) I made my last trip to Vegas in October 2014. I always rented a car so I could travel outside of Vegas. On my last trip I traveled across the new bridge to go to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Another fun experience! Wow, this video brings back so many wonderful memories. Thank you, Russ, and safe travels to you! Keep those videos coming. I watch every one. Chet, Roanoke, Virginia
Oldtimers used to pronounce it "Ne - vay - day" ... lol! I last visited Hoover Dam in 2019. Security team at the entrance almost emptied my van. The guard asked me to lower my back window, when I told him the window didn't go down, he made me go to the "SEARCH" area because I hadn't complied with his order (electric back windows is an option I didn't take on my vehicle). What a creep. It was worse than passing through the Canada-U.S. Border station. But a nice site to visit anyway. I used to camp at Echo Bay on the shore of Lake Mead in the 1990's, none of it existed anymore in 2019. The water level was already very low. It seems like the recreation area is being slowly abandonned. I remember the sound of the wind too ... memories, memories. RICHARD
Thanks for showing us the scenic views and the dam. I last was at Hoover Dam back in 1971 so yes it's been awhile. We went on a tour inside the dam then. Gee that water level is ultra low! Sad. Sad also about Lake Powell.
I love that terrain, just beautiful. Amazes me how different it is as you move through the country. I took a Geology course yrs ago, loved it. Sad to see the lake so low. Beautiful bridge. Huge dam. Ty so much for taking us along. 🙂👍
All my years in Vegas, I never knew about that trailhead. You should do the Dam tour. I love the dam and it's history. So sad to see Lake so low 😵💫 Thanks for this awesome dam trip! Looking forward to the next one.
When I was visiting my son in Henderson we went into Boulder for breakfast, there is a great restaurant on the main drag in the old part of town, can't remember the name, but it was great.
Well Russ out of all the utubers covering the Colorado River Lake mead Lake Powell area you are my favorite. I didn’t think you could still drive across the dam.
I'm still amazed that so many men traveled all the way out to this very desolate area in the 1930's to build the dam on the Colorado river. I visited the dam and took the Hard Hat Tour in 2000.
REALLY INTERESTING. THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE THEY WERE CONSTRUCTING ALL THE NEW ROADS. WE STILL DROVE ACROSS THE DAM BUT WATCHING WHERE SOME OF THE WORKERS WERE PERCHED IN MACHINES WAS ENOUGH TO SCARE A PERSON
Hoover dam was closed when I was there 2 years ago I probably won't go back too much hassles I don't like getting strip searched to see a big piece of concrete
I agree...I was putting the Hoover Dam on my list of places to go this year until I heard him say they went through his RV like that. Nah I'll pass. I dont have anything to hide, but it still seems like an invasion of privacy...
Hey Russ! I’ve been across Hoover Dam many times with my big truck and loaded trailer during my 38 years of trucking…that is until they prohibited trucks after 9/11. It was gorgeous at night with all the different facets of lights and was fun talking to the dam police on the CB radio! Good memories, but, I don’t care to go across NOW due to the extensive search I’d have to endure in my [future] Promaster camper van. Chomping at the bit to get back out there since retiring in 2015. Great video as always! Thanks for allowing me to see my memories come alive via your videos! Safe Travels! ~Jim~
Just joined up here in Australia 🇦🇺 fantastic video, the mountains and the Colorado river absolutely stunning , look forward to seeing more Good on ya mate 👍🇦🇺
Nice video for my Saturday morning. Thanks Russ. Can't wait to see part 2. Hey, if you were going in the same direction of that flag waving, you wouldn't need any more gas!😁
Nice video Russ! I moved to Boulder City in 2000, in 1999 on vacation the water was so high in the lake they had the spillways on each side of the dam wide open to get rid of the excess water so it didn't get too high on the lake side of the dam. That was really something to see it blasting through there. Then when we first moved there all of the sudden it started on it's way down and seemed like daily reports of the water level began on the local news. Around 2005-2010 I had a house boat and other toys on the lake at one of the original marinas, I think it was called Lake Mead marina. I know, was that really the name, I think it was. The water got so low they kept moving the marina out but it was in kind of a cove so they could only go so far. Eventually they moved that marina down to "Las Vegas Bay" marina that you filmed, Bob, the owner of that marina bought the one they moved next to him so it was kind of physically combined as one as you filmed it. Las Vegas Bay marina that you filmed was moved to that location about a year earlier from up the lake about where the road "Lake Mead" dead ended at the lake and turned in to the 2 lane road that drives along the lake. In that time we where on the lake you could see those mountains growing out of the water as the level went down. The concrete batch plant was one of the things that surfaced first if I remember right, it was Very sad to see that happening! There is a paddle boat ride on the lake like the one you just took in Laughlin, that would be a nice video. Also, up in Boulder City at the Boulder Dam hotel there is a museum that shows the history and even some tools used to build the dam along with some very interesting actual footage videos. Just a thought, safe travels!
Further extensions of the I-11 corridor to the north (toward Reno and to the south toward Nogales, Arizona) were approved by the 2015 Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.
My Grandparents moved from working on Dams in Idaho to Boulder City for more Dam work, My Grandfather worked on the R X R, before the dam was started. He passed 1950. Then my step-grandfather was an engineer on the electrical part of the Dam, He took me thru the dam when I was 11 or 12 years old... He took me to places in the Dam that was not on the tourist tour!! There is a book written about the general engineer and the building of the Dam, call "Big Red", Very interesting book to read!! Have many relatives buried in Boulder City Nv.
Like the other person commented I don't understand some of what you say either. Thats life here in USA people are always going to have accents that reflect the areas they were raised. I just have to miss some of what you're saying. I enjoy the road trips and the tours since I can't get out. Thanks!!
Another great video Russ. Your videos have changed what many people think of the views of Nevada. Many never thought of the mountains out in the desert. Has the cost of fuel curtailed your planned trips much?
We used to take our Pickup Truck with our Elkhorn Cabover Camper, (with 11 foot slideout), and towing our brand new Stingray 18 foot bowrider back in 2004 to Las Vegas 1000 Trails Camp Ground on Boulder Highway with our kids and all of their friends! We would happyjack the cabover off the truck, re hookup the boat to the truck and head for lake Mead for a day on the water with my Wife and 6 or 7 kids were we would water ski, wake board and just find a nice cove on the Arizona side, drop anchor and relax, swim. Back then the water level was high and lake Mead seemed like an ocean. We went twice a month for about 3 years until kids got older and wanted to do other stuff instead of hanging out with their parents! Go Figure!
GAS...14 gal = $72. But the OIL COMPANIES ARE PRICE GOUGING, I think. Time is flying. Must have been geniuses who built Hoover Dam. I don't think average people are educated very well anymore. The SUN looks brighter in your video than it does in Illinois. I really think all the walking you do is a health benefit. Keeps you limber.
Russ, there's a bike trail into the Hoover Dam that starts in Hendersonville and it by passes most of the security post and a lot less people, basically your on the old historic railroad trail. The TH-cam channel Fate Unbound has a very good documentary on it. Also it cost my son $1200 to fill up hi semi full of diesel...
Good morning, big announcement on CNN this morning, Idaho has increased in population by 50% in a year. I thought that's not news Russ told me that 2 years ago. Thanks, Russ!
Great Video! I know this area pretty good, hiked down to the river on the Gold Strike Hot Springs trail. There used to be a huge truck parking and boon-docking area across from the Hover Dam Lodge, do you know if it's still there and available for an overnight stay? Thanks for sharing...........
As of yesterday, Saturday the 7th, they found bones in the mud somewhere else on the lake. The authorities expect to find more.... Yes, that's what they said.
No way you can camp at the casino. Last time I was thru there with my class A they ran me off. After finding I couldn't get to the dam or willow beach after dark. I ended up having to drive 40mi past Vegas to a truck stop

Thanks so much for this side journey to the trailhead and especially Hoover Dam. Things sure have changed there in recent years.
Hoover Dam is so amazing. Still blows My mind it was build in the 30’s.

i've been to hoover dam a couple of times. that highway span is just as impressive. thanks for sharing.
It’s ruggedly beautiful there.
I was there as a child back in the late 40's. My Daddy took a picture of me and my little brother standing on a boulder overlooking the dam!
WOW!!, I experienced the hoover dam tour in 92
Haven't been there since until now, thank you Russ

23 gallons is equal to about $200 here in canada....it converts to @ $8.00 a US gallon.
Same here in Switzerland, even a little more than 8 USD per gallon. Terrible.

Gouging, all oil from last summer being priced as today's

You should have filled up at FASTRIP in Bullhead. Cheapest gas BY FAR anywhere in southwest AZ.
