Thank you for your reporting very sad to see used to live there starting visiting in 1998 got to actually see lake Mead full there are solutions they could have built a water pipeline well over a decade ago and they knew this and they know this let's hope it works its way out.
There used to be camping on the lake because I learned to swim there because it was so hot you had to stay in the water. Our little dog, that normally hated water, would stand in the creek going through the campground. My grandma Laidlaw was with us and when we saw a sign that said you could only stay two weeks, she said I'm not going to stay 2 minutes! And she insisted we take her to town to catch a bus home! She also didn't approve of gambling when we took her to Las Vegas. We tried to get her to pull the handle on a slot machine. She said you might as well take your money and throw it into the street! I can't say she was wrong!

Greg Braden has a great story. New Mexico was experiencing a great drought a few years back. A Native American friend said to him, let's go pray. They got to an area where the friend drew a circle in the desert earth, he took off his shoes and sat in the circle. In a few minutes he said, let's go get something to eat. Greg said wait, we didn't pray, what were you doing in the circle? The friend said I was envisioning the rain, I could smell the rain, I could feel the rain, I could feel the mud squish between my toes. Shortly, they heard thunder, rain clouds came in, it started raining, it rained and it rained and it rained. Greg said ok, that's enough, make it stop. The friend said my ancestors didn't tell me that part!! Let's all collectively feel, smell and squish our toes in the rain for this area and for Lake Mead.

Back in 1964 my family stayed the weekend in a mobile home near the lake. At that time Lake Mead was as high as it's ever been. We had a great time. It's sad to see the low lake levels. How long will it be before Hoover Dam is sucking air and Las Vegas goes dark???
For all of those who still deny global warming, think again-
Depends on the snow melt coming from other states as to when the lake will start to fill up again.
God I am grateful for my finer lakes and Ontario.

The polar vortex us moving North. That means that the dry deserts will become drier and that the higher latitudes at 60 degrees will become wetter and get more humidity. At 900 feet, Southern California gets the remaining water in Lake Mead. We will be out and the power may cease as well. Move to Canada folks.

Thanks for showing me this. My son, his wife and in laws just left to walk down to the Colorado river for 8 days of rafting. I hope they survive all the rapids. Now that I see how low water it will be..yikes..they better paddle hard
Recently went to my 30th reunion, the night I flew in I met a group of friends at the lake where we would cliff dive late 80s early 90s.
It was completely different, you would now need to climb down the cliff and walk a long way just to reach water.
It was a bit sad to see to be honest!
My dad was big on fishing and Lake Mead was a favorite of his till it got so crowded with speed boaters. He fished the lake since it was brand new. I used to go fishing there pretty often in the 40's, 50'sand 60's. I haven't been back since 1968. Lived too far away and life took me away from the lake. It's really sad to see the lake so low.
Was pretty darn full when I was there an 89. I think they waited just a little too long to implement harsher restrictions :-)

Gosh, I remember renting a 50 foot houseboat when the water was all the way up and spending a week exploring the lake. It is amazing to see it so low and the lake so small. With that new water collection tunnel for Las Vegas, it is likely to become a 12 mud puddle when it is all said and done. It is a shame Las Vegas does not find a way to stop taking Millions (Billions?) of gallons and let the lake fill. When it is gone, it is gone. :(
Las Vegas doesn't take much water. More than 80% is used by farms in Southern California. Southern Nevada only takes what is allowed by decades old water agreements.
More stadiums, and hotel rooms flushing away that water- it’s hard to believe farm irrigation uses more. But I don’t know. Probably best not to use it all up
Exactly right. But it is the People of the USA that NEED to stop being so wastful. The USA makes up over 80% of the WORLDS consumables 🤯 (they say 90% but that just cannot be right so I'm being nice) a very wasteful society. And sadly Canada is trying to copy but cannot get 10% as close. I always would have guessed china was the top most wasteful but not so. I can sit at 5pm and watch the USA suck the water out of lake Ontario daily and all the birds get sucks out the wrong way from where they should be going😮💨😔.... water and life is precious we must be careful ALL of us.
The strip is not restricted from water usage. There's plenty of waste.
JR, I too had the pleasure of renting one of those beautiful houseboats for a glorious week's vacation on that beautiful lake. I'm glad I got the chance to experience it.
In 1948 a B29 crashed and sank in Lake Mead and was found by a diver in 2001.
It is relaxing to hear the voice of someone like yourself who is calm and comfortable.

Sad to see the lake so low. They better get serious about looking for aquifers or pipe and over the Pacific Ocean otherwise Nevada and Arizona might be in trouble. And that is a beautiful part of the world. Maybe they can do some DNA test on those bodies and have some closure for some families

Thank you for your illuminating report on the sorry state of Lake Mead. This is a story that I have been following all the way from Australia 🇦🇺 which is where I write to you from at this time, Sydney to be precise. I am always struck by the similarities of your desert landscapes to ours in Australia. We also share some of your water supply issues with over allocated natural resources. It would appear that in order to restore many of our existing natural resources we have to stop taking so much out of them as an urgent first step. Mead is still supplying 3 states + 1 country!
Wrong. This is caused by intentional man-made weather manipulation. See my other comment.
They can seed clouds to give the right amount of moisture needed, or over seed them to flood a place out.
There's several directed energy weapons or DEW's they use to do this also.
They can make it rain where There's fires raging.

My aunt and uncle ran a little restaurant and floating dock in the 1970s and 1980s on the Sacramento river about 20 miles from Sacramento in the tiny town of Courtland. It was called Courtland Docks.
My Husband and I lived in Sacramento for nearly seventeen years. I liked the area quite well.
Arizona is beautiful with or w/o water. The land and mountains are so pretty to look at. Russ you've logged a lot of miles & none of it is boring. I love being outside or just looking outside.
I remember a Saturday night fish fry at Collinsville in the 70's, What a blast!! We probably hit Courtland too on the way back up to Long Barn.

One of my best friends from high school lived in Vegas in the 60s and 70s. He said bodies were found in the desert on a regular basis. This is the desert outside Lake Mead. This is why you hear so many sources say there will be more bodies found as the lake level goes down.

Wow. I left Las Vegas 7 years ago and the change is drastic. It’s such a shame. We use to go to the Lake at least once a month and it never looked like this. Makes me sad to see it literally disappear before our eyes.

I had been to Lake Mead in the early 80's, crossed the dam from Nevada into Arizona to go fishing for striped bass, and the water level was very high. I returned in April 2018 and was blown away at how low the water was. Seeing it in person is so much different than seeing it on video. it's sad what has happened in that time.
The people have increased by tens of millions & nothing they do can produce enough water.

Hi Russ, thanks for posting this. My wife and I moved to Las Vegas in February 1981. We spent 32 years there and raised four kids. We saw a lot of growth during that time. We spent a lot of time at Lake Mead. I got my diving certification at Lake Mead. In 1983 we saw the spillways in use. In 2006 we bought a motorhome and hit the road. We still have two our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren there. Have fun and stay safe.

Good that you plan to try for Lake Powell. I saw on the news reports that Glen Canyon Dam on Lake Powell will be measuring and cutting bak the water released downstream to Lake Mead to preserve electrical generation in Glen Canyon Dam's generating site. The water there on Lake Powell is really low similar to Lake Meade. You got a really pretty camp site for the night. Safe travels. I have enjoyed your videos a lot!

I’m from there!! I lived there for 40 years. That’s the old railroad tunnels. You can walk through them. I wouldn’t do it when it’s hot 🥵 can get snaky. Lake Mead will only fill back up when Las Vegas quits building pools and water features. I remember in the 80’s and 90’s it rained so much it used to flood down there. They would have to use the spillway to get rid of water. I just stumbled on to this. I left about 5 years ago and moved to the mountains of Idaho. So much more peace and quiet. I hope you enjoyed your trip.

Those palms at the end - those are part of what really heavily exasperates the water problems down there. Those are Tropical Palms, which require obscene amounts of water 24/7. You see them all throughout Nevada and California, and major portions of Arizona, and in the cities and suburbs, they literally have to install water pipes directly underneath them so that they have 24/7 watering. That's how ridiculously thirsty these palms are if you don't want them to die, and want them to maintain the signature look and aesthetic too many have gotten used to now.

Watching the Lake Mead video. Yes you can stay overnight in the hoover dam lodge and casino parking lot up on the hill. Next time you should walk out on the dock out to the marina and restaurant. There is a school of striped bass that follow you up and down the dock, looking for a handout. Cool! When you get up towards lake Powell be sure to check out Lees Ferry and the horseshoe bend below the Glen canyon dam. We enjoy your videos, we get to relive our travels in AZ. We just returned from there to MT for the summer

Where do you think they are going to pump the water from? Mead is the largest man made reservoir in the U.S. Lake Powell is second and it is also at record low.
@@davidgale4604 Well Dave, since I'm in the medical field, I wouldn't begin to know where to fix this problem. Maybe piped in ocean water. I know that this didn't just happen, and a lot of people are effected by water restrictions, and drought in that area; and have been in many western states. Those that are working in that field need to step it up with a solution. Maybe with midterms coming up, this would be a good thing for one of the candidates to get involved in? I don't live in that area, but I feel for those that do.

The colorado river cant sustain the amount of population increased demand and we are also in a super drought at the same time. There are talks about piping water from the missouri ruver to the green river in utah which would eventually supply the colorado river. But that may take decades.
My sister and I were at the Hoover Dam in early October 2010, not long before they opened the new bridge. We felt fortunate that we were among the last people to cross directly over the dam as future travels would take the new bridge.
When the old mob ran Vegas it was great! Food and lodging were cheap. Shows were great.
Crazy Geology around the Dam. But then again, the entire South West is a Geologists paradise.

The Tilman bridge is really something. I mean how could you make Hoover Dam even more cool? But yes they pulled it off. I love walking across the bridge and driving underneath it's really amazing. I lived in the Las Vegas area during construction and watched it happened. It was amazing to see how they build such a structure.
I moved to Las Vegas in ‘94 and they were concerned about water usage then, but they just kept building more casinos and homes. The water was right up to the top of the dam, but downstream towns and agriculture needed it too. Sad. Millions of people depend on that lake for water.😿😎

WOW! When I last saw that mobile home park it was about 20 feet from the water's edge.
I liked the drive and your narration. I visited Lake Mead in the 80's, my mom and my aunt her only sister, lived in Henderson. We visited the lake. They since have passed away but it brought me memories of a good time gone by. It is very sad to see what is happening and it just makes us aware "global warming" is for real. I wish there was a way to pump in water. It's not the dead bodies news that brought me to your video, it's the dying beautiful lake.
The earth changes naturally. Alberta used to be a tropical forest. It was completely different. Drumheller has a huge museum of Dinosaurs who lived in a beautiful temperate environment. It's sure not tropical anymore.

In February we camped at that same RV Park side of that campground as you did. We needed their hot showers and laundry. Very friendly staff...It's all gravel and quite ugly really...
The dry camping side ( no showers or laundry ) however is MUCH prettier, cheaper, and with actual trees, plants, and bushes.
Down at the Marina we walked around with our dog and there were these giant fish in the water begging for food. Huge mouths open looking for a hand out. Our dog was fascinated by them! Crazy fish, been there forever people said.

If you think it's sad now , wait about 5 years and that thing will be an empty bath tub. It's unbelieveable the disregard the people down river have misused the water that was once in there, watering desert and just uncontrolled building . AS I was moving out of Phoenix in 2015 I saw a stretch of desert about 5 miles long and a couple miles wide , being watered with a sprinkling system growing ? The ground looked just like pictures of the moon . Needs a little help is wishful thinking, it's too late for that.
Maybe that's where they filmed the so called moon landing! lol

Hey Russ I am fairly new to your channel and have heard you mention the senior card several times, but have not heard what card it is. If you could please let us know what card you are talking about so we can get one for my family as this year we plan to travel
The "senior card" of which Russ speaks is a one-time $80.00/$85.00 (something like that) fee pass that gives lifetime access to every national park, available to senior citizens only. If you travel and are into national parks it is definitely worth the money.

When you go thru the booth into a park instead of paying for the day pass just ask for the senior card. We have ours, love it
It is: THE NATIONAL PARKS AND FEDERAL RECREATIONAL LANDS PASS (SENIOR PASS, 62 years and older). We got ours going through Yosemite in 2008 for $20. Now they are $80.
We spent ten days there in January. Camped four nights at Echo Bay. Lotsa history there, the old hotel you could jump in the lake off the back porch in 1983. Long walk to the lake now. Thanks for the video, always enjoy watching your travels

George Knapp said in a 5 second commercial that Lake meads water is connecting to a tunnel system that goes out to the ocean and the Chinese ships are buying that water along with California Lakes. They also suck up water in the great lakes. This is the so called drought and climate change. Weather weapons too/ Bunker fuel in the pacific.

We stayed at the RV park fall 2020 it was pretty nice. There are a lot of great spots to check out along that road around the lake. We love lake mead.
The north rim opens May 15 if you haven’t been you should check it out. A little out of the way going to lake Powell but worth it.

When i was there it was full, the highway went across the top of the dam and we took a tour inside the dam. Now none of that occurs. Been a while, im 47 and i was around 12 yrs old

Was there back in the 50s as a young boy. Was on a tour out of Knoxville TN on Knoxville Tours Inc. My mind just will not comprehend how it must have looked even tho I took over 500 slides during the trip. Good job and enjoyed this.

🙋This was really a nice day. The Visitor Center/Gift Shop was small, but rather nice & informative along with making guests aware of the wildlife. The Marina was nicer at one time. With the water level low, the houseboats looked somewhat congested. Maybe not. Lake Mead has a beautiful blue color. The campground looks nice. 👍
You really love the desert ! It’s nice not to see so many crowds- I remember it best with only small crowds, then they’d leave on Sunday and we’d get our town back

To be totally honest now I live in Colorado home of the Colorado River and I can tell you that River puts out serious amounts of water I've been here for seven eight winners massive snow storms either somebody's still in the water obviously the fires take a lot too

Wow, looks pretty destitute there. No green trees, no grass, just hills of rocks. Lake Mead will soon be a dry lake bed. People didn't listen to Mother Nature and this is what happens. Over population and abuse of the water. Makes me feel grateful that I live in beautiful central Ohio. Oh ya, we have a unlimited commodity of an important thing called water.

Same here in beautiful, green Arkansas but we shouldn't count ourselves to lucky because they can just as easily stop the rain here in our parts of the country just like they have there!
@@rhulse8904 Aww, but we don't live in a desert. It rains here at least once a week, and we have the large fresh water lakes in the world just north of me. Oh, by the way, they are all at full level.
